Loaded Movie Actionscript Question...



Hello. I am fairly new to Actionscript, and I have a problem that I hope all you clever Flash users can help me with.

Basically, I downloaded and figured out how to use The Stickman's tutorial on the Barney's sliding menu, but my problem is that when I load this into a movieclip holder in a different main movie, it does not work.

I'm not quite sure why? Can anybody give me any help?

Giving Actionscript To An Actionscript-loaded Movie
How can I (if possible) set actionscript (say, an on-mouse event) to a movie that I load via attachMovie()? I poked around and I couldn't seem to find an answer...

I want the movie that I load via attachMovie() to have an on(RollOver) event...any thoughts?

Actionscript Between Loaded Movie And Parent Movie
i have actionscript in the main movie that loads a new movie into level 3. this script is inside a movieclip which is nested in a few others. i have a button in the loaded movie that i want to control the timeline in the movieclip that originally loaded that movie. this button is also inside a movie clip in the loaded movie.

Actionscript Of Loaded Movie Does Not Works
I am loading a movie in a movie clip,, now the movie which is being loaded is a scroller , but as it is loaded in a movie clip , the actionscript of the scroller stops working,
just see this:-

Now i load this scroller in a movie clip of other fla

and now when i publish it, an error is given

Positioning A Loaded Movie Using Actionscript
Hi! Need a little help on actionscripting...I actually tried to use the flashtyper, but it doesn't seem to work, so i'm trying to do things the long way by downloading the source and loading it as an swf file into the movie that i will be using it in. I was able to load the SWF file into level 1 of my main movie, but not in a target movieclip. It doesn't seem to work right when i load it into a movie clip.

Anyway, i used the load movie script in the first frame to load the movie, and in the second frame, i added a set property script to set the x and y positions of the movie that i loaded. Problem is, the movie loads on the first frame, and plays automatically without following the positions i indicated in the second frame. I tried to move the set propoerty scripts in the first frame, but that doesn't seem to work too. It only follows the set property positions after it played the loaded swf file once.

Is there a way to prevent the loaded movie from playing right away, so that it follows the x and y positions that are indicated on frame 2? I'm just beginning with actionscript and not quite sure if the script i'm doing is right. Maybe i'm lacking a script or something. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated!Ü Thanks!

Mx-04-actionscript In Movie Won't Behave When Loaded Into Empty Mc
I'm trying to load an outside movie (through loadMovie) into an empty movie clip into another movie using a simple button to activate the process. However, after it loads, the outside movie doesn't play how it normally does. The outside movie uses mx.transitions all located on only the first frame. The timing and when each new transition occurs becomes completely off from the original when loaded.

note: This is for a portfolio site (based in flash) and i'm just trying to showcase a banner ad design (the loaded movie). It's not a large file at all.

Get Size Of Actionscript Loaded Movie Clip
I've got a movie clip named x, with size 0,0. I create a new movie clip inside x (in actionscripting) and load a image to it, when I try to get x width it says its 0 if i try to get the new movie clip width it alsow says that it's 0.

[MX04] Loadmovie-- Actionscript Goes Wacky On Loaded Movie If User Reloads
I'm having an issue with loading a .swf into an empty movieclip. It loads when a button is pushed, however the problem occurs if the user hits the load button again. This sends the actionscript on the movie being loaded to act really weird and do some odd things.

simple actionscript for the button:

on (release) {
_root.holder.loadMovie("newimages/swing/swing1.swf");
}

Should I maybe do a loadMovieNum? and resort to levels? Or is there some script that will unload the movie and then reload it when pressed to get a "clean" version?

(I'm unsure if it makes any difference, but the actionscript on the movie being loaded is all on the first frame and uses mx.transitions.)

I'm trying to clone an swf (produced in CS3) that has been loaded into my app (built using Actionscript/mxmlc) but keep getting the following message appear in my logs:

I know the CS3 swf has been produced using Actionscript 3 as it's settings and published for FP9. It does nothing more than a motion tween of a graphic.

Here is a really simple example of how to emulate the problem:

Preloader In Externally Loaded Swf Stops Working (loaded Into An Empty Movie Clip)
SEE BOTTOM OF THREAD FOR CURRENT PROBLEM

1. I have my navigation buttons in level0

2. When a button is pressed it loads an external .swf into the highest empty level

3. There is an MC in this loaded .swf called loadmovie and inside that another MC called empty.

4. Inside the 'loadmovie' MC, there is a frame action that loads another external .swf file into the 'empty' MC.

The problem I am having is that the preloader that is on the external .swf that is loaded into the 'empty' MC does not work.

It works fine if you test it on its own. But not when loaded into a Movie Clip.

MY SCRIPT:
iBytesTotal = _root.getBytesTotal();
iBytesLoaded = _root.getBytesLoaded();
iBytes = (iBytesLoaded/iBytesTotal)*100;
percentageNumber = Math.round(iBytes)+"%";
setProperty("progressBar", _xscale, iBytes);

Do I have to refrence it differently? Because of where it is situated?

e.g
iBytesTotal = _level32._root.loadmovie.empty.getBytesTotal();

Checking If Movie Loaded Into An Instance Has Fully Loaded B4 Playing
Hi,

I'm building a site that streams a series of small movies into some preset into instances on the _root timeline but are paused on an empty frame 1 until needed. So while the first movie is playing the second movie is already being loaded and is cued on frame 1 ready to play.

However, if the timeline tells the loaded movie (i.e. _root.content ) to play frame 2 before this movie has finished loading it will not play. This shouldn't happen because the movie loaded into _root.content should have loaded, but I need a failsafe.

Is there a way to run a routine once the _root timeline is finished to constantly check the status of the movie being loaded in _root.content and then play once it is loaded.

I've tried running this code in a routine:

if (_root.content._framesloaded >= _root.content._totalframes) {
_root.gotoAndPlay(2)
}

..but I'm not sure if it will work.

I really want to avoid a preloader (each movie is only about 10k big )

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I have a movie called main. I want to load into a movieClip that sits in main an .swf.

To do it i use a

pictureClip.loadMovie("PR001.swf");

My question is: is there a way that the main movie can know that PR001.swf was not loaded?

Playing A Loaded Movie Clip (loaded In A Different Level)
I really don't understand the problem here, I'm loading a swf containing a movie clip with 2 frames with Stop(); on each. The file is loaded on _level5 so I tried this:

tellTarget (_level5.musicmc) {
gotoAndStop (2);
}


but instead of telling the musicmc movieclip to go to frame 2, it tells it to the main timeline to go to frame 2 and stop...What's the problem, when I use "Debug Movie", I can see the:
_level5
......._level5.musicmc (....... = spaces)

what's wrong, it seems to don't want to tell the MC to go to frame 2. I passed many hours on this simple d*mn thing and I really can't find out...

Urgent Loaded Movie Controlling Other Loaded Movi
I need this one done today!


I have two holder movie clips in my main .swf. One is selectloader, the other is normloader.

So selectloader.loadMov..... that works

In the select I load a selection with three boxes, the user chooses one.

When the user clicks one of the boxes I do
_root.normloader.loadMovie...
and it doesn't work!

So I created a new frame on the holder .swf for each of the three buttons so all the selectino has to to is go to another frame.
That works, but I also want each of the boxes to direct to a certain frame in normloader

so the problem comes back again

I can't get one loaded movie to control another loaded movie

I'm assuming it has to do with levels, and I need to do more then just _root.normloader.gotoAndPlay(3);

Play A Frame In A Loaded Movie From Another Loaded Swf
this is driving me crazzzzy []
i have the main movie which is 1 frame (containing the menu navagation for the site), under the 1 frame i have an MC (called scoot) that is 8 frames long and each frame has a stop action. I have set the site up to use browser back/forward button <script>

Now... I labled the 5th frame of scoot as "map" and under the 5th frame, when it is played, is a button to open another swf, i'll call swf2. In swf2 is a button that i'm trying to action to go back and play map of scoot. But what ever i try nothing seems to work. Swf2 is loaded into level3 of the main movie and the loading action is in the first frame (and only frame) of the main movie. Someone please help me..... ???? Thanks a gekadrazillion in advanced !

Detect When Loaded Movie Is Fully Loaded
hey all,

I am trying to load an external swf into a target. when the swf is completely loaded, i want to execute the next set of actions.

Now here is the bit i'm stuck. I am trying to develop my flash websites so that no coding is done within the child swfs.

so i would assume some code like this would work:

_root.holder.loadMovie ("child.swf");
if(_root.holder.getBytesLoaded ==_root.holder.getBytesTotal){
_execute some other command;
}

However it doesn't work!!!

So is there a way to detect when a specific child swf has fully loaded into a target (not _framesLoaded please!) and then set a variable to allow some other actionscript to kick in?

when you have an external movie loaded in an empty mc, how do you keep that movie visible when the preloader is trying to load another external movie to replace that movie?

i need to unload a movie once the new loadMovie is fully loaded because once i click on my button to do so, my current loaded movie goes away & the screen is white until the new loaded movie is loaded. (i hope that made sense)

ok I am loading picture.swf into level 15 on my parent movie.

Other main text bodies are loading in level 10, when those file hit frame ten I want to tell the picture.swf movie to goto frame 2 or frame 3 and so on.

How To Use A Loaded Movie To Control Another Loaded Movie
First I have to admit that I am new to ActionScript. Now that that is out of the way....

what I am trying to do is minimize the size of the file by using externally-loaded movies into a main movie, and use one externally loaded movie (a Flash drop down vertical menu) to control the movement to different frame labels in the other movie:

I have one main movie as a website background: main.swf
In main.swf, I have 2 empty movie clips that I use as placeholders for other movies to get loaded into
Empty mc No. 1: menu_placeholder - for flash dropdown menu

Empty mc No. 2: content_placeholder - for flash content for webpage, has frame labels

My goal is that when I press the respective button in the menu (which is a loaded movie in placeholder mc No. 1) to change the content (by moving to the next frame label) of the loaded movie placeholder No. 2


I have used the loadMovie function to successfully load both external movies into the respective placeholders, both of which have instance names (vs using level numbers).

My issue is knowing what ActionScript to use (assuming that an onRelease inside the dropdown menu buttons in combination with gotoandPlay) in placeholder 1 (the dropdown menu) to control the movie in placeholder 2 to move from frame label and what is the correct format for the path between placeholder 1 and 2.

Unloading A Loaded Movie In The Same Loaded Movie
I have a popup window (separate swf movie) that loads up with its own close button in the main movie.  What I need to do is script that close button to unload the whole movie on the level it's in (ie: level5).  Basically, unloading its own self from the parent swf.

Every clip is named, but I can't seem to get the unloadMovieNum to work to close its own self.

How To Control A Movie Symbol In A Movie Which Is Loaded Intro Another Movie?

I need help with some script. I have a movie, which is my main movie, and to which I load all other movies, like sound clips, other related movie which load on request. the problem is with the sound movie which I created, it's a separate file and it has a sound loop which starts and then if an button is clicked it stops, and then starts again if the buttons is pressed again. Also in this sound movie I have another movie symbol with audio bars animation which plays only when the sound is playing, and then it stops when the sound is stopped. It works fine with this code:

...on it's own, but when it is loaded into another movie it works only partially, the sound stopps but the audio bar animation which you see here as instance name "sound_bars" is not working, it keeps playing even when the button is pressed. but like I said the sound stopps. So what I need to know is how to control that movie symbol which is inside a movie called soundloop1, which is loaded into my main movie. I know it's a level / tell target issue, but I just cannot figure out how to control it from another movie. If you can help me that would be greatly appreciated Thanks.

Actionscript: End Frame Loaded?
ok, my problem is this: i work with flash 5 and i've been trying and trying to make my first very basic preloader with the help of a tutorial from here, the problem is that according to the tutorial i need to use the: 'End Frame Loaded' command at the end of the actionscript in my first frame, and i can't seem to find it or find a way to type it in manually....am i trying to use an obsolete flash 5 command? or am i just doing something wrong again?
please help!
p.s. (it was the eddie carrol tutorial on basic preloaders and basic bar preloaders, wich if you don't have my problem is a great tutorial!)

Actionscript: End Frame Loaded?
i'm having a lot of problems because of this command and other "end related" commands, i use flash 5 and i've ben trying to create a basic preloader with the help of a tutorial from here (eddie carroll) but he uses the 'end Frame Loaded' command several times and i can't find it anywhere. also i've been trying to create a sound on and off toggle but again in the tutorial i've been using there are actionscript statements using the term 'end' that i can't find anywhere....
am i doing something completely wrong or what?

Maybe this has been asked for a thousand times, but it's simple answered...:

Do i use loadMovie(...) or loadMovieNum(...) to keep the actionscript activity alive in the loaded swf-file?
I'd like to use loadMovie for better control of the loaded movie, is that possible somehow?

I'm trying to get the width of a movieClip after I load the jpg into a movie clip but I always get a return of 0. How is this done?

[CS3] Keeping The Actionscript In A Loaded SWF
When I try to load a SWF in a movie clip in another file, some of the action script in the external file won't work when loaded. How can I load it so that it still works like it's supposed to? I'm loading it using this code within the movie clip:

If I load it to the main time line everything works fine. But then I can't get back where i was on the timelime line with a fade.

Actionscript Problem With Loaded Swf
I have created a small game with many library items and it uses actionscript classes heavily to control movement of particles. Because all of these things need to be loaded on the first frame of the .swf so they can be referenced from the scripts at any time I must use a secondary .swf to load the game into to create my preloader. However I have found that when I do this it seems as if my game can no longer reference the Actionscript classes. I have been working on a fix for this for several days but I am now basically back at square one. Any help would be greatly appreciated as to why this is doing this. If my question isn't clear please let me know.

No ActionScript In Loaded Swf For Other Server
The actionscript within a loadMovieClip swf doesn't execute code. The twist is that it does work if both the main file and linked swf are on the same server. It does not if they are on different servers.

Actionscript Fails When Loaded To A Target
I have a feedback form in a swf loaded to a target in my main movie. It contains a 2 frame MC that acts as a checkbox. The actionscript that controls this 'checkbox MC' is:-

Can I Put ActionScript In A Txt-file That Is Dynamically Loaded Into An Swf?
I have a textBox inside a swf that loads an external txt-file with html code...

In the html code that I use in the txt-file I have used the <a href=""> tag, now what I want to know is if I can use ActionScript here, like for instance '_level2.gotoAndPlay(4);'

I can't seem to get it to work... What's the proper syntax if this is possible at all?

Actionscript: Movement Inside Loaded MC
Hey everyone…
I created a “slider” as part of a header for a site I’m building which worked fine until I sectioned off the header, and decided to load that as a separate MC into my main movie. Now the slider doesn’t function, but I’m not exactly sure how to fix it.

The setup: (I’m winging it on the code, because I’m at another computer)

1. A controller MC that does the majority of the work: (Moving from right to left)
Its script:

OnClipEvent (enterFrame) {
If (textMove ==”yes” && Slider._x > 500) {
Slider._x -= 10;
If (textMove ==”no” && Slider._x < 800)
Slider._x +=10;
}

2. The button that triggers rollover
Basically like this, pretty standard:

On (rollover) {
TextMove = “yes”;
}
On (rollout) {
TextMove =”no”;
}

This interacts with the above “Controller MC”
So the point is that basically the whole thing worked when it was set up within my main movie, but now that I’ve made it a separate MC loaded into my man movie, it doesn’t work. My gut tells me that it should be a relatively simple adjustment but I’m not sure where to start. The X and Y coordinates? If so, what do I change them to? What else could the problem be?

Actionscript Stops Working When Ext. Swf Is Loaded
I have one of those Blarney's type scrollers (buttons move the images to a location and they slow down as they approach their destination). All of it works in the separate swfs, but once I load them into the 'home' swf all the actionscript stops working. So all of the buttons appear, but nothing happens when I click on them.
I've checked the paths, added the path from the true root (the home page), to the blank MC that holds the external files, but it still will not work.
Am I missing something obvious? Everything works perfectly as separate files.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Executing Sound Via Actionscript When Loaded Into Another Swf
i have like 6 swf's and they are loaded into the main one.
one of them has hit = new Sound();
hit.attachSound("hit2");
hit.start(0,1);

and this works, but when it loads into the main.swf -- no sound plays
