i hope someone can help me with this,

i have the url of a password protected xml, and i need to load it in my application. but i can't figure it out how. i did find an example but it was in actionScirpt 2 and i'm having troubles coding it in 3.0.
the AS 2 code looks like this, can someone help me convert this to 3.0?

Loading XML Data From Password Protected Directory?
I am trying to load an XML file into Flash and I have run into some problems. When I first made the flash movie, everything worked fine. The website that contains the movie is password protected, but I was still able to load the XML into the flash movie. Since then, I have added HTTPS to the website. This threw everything into a tailspin. Now my movie can not load the XML file because it cannot load the URL (when in the Flash application the error message actaully says "failed to load url"). My conclusion is that when a person logs onto the url normally, you get a password prompt. So when the flash movie tries to load the XML, it too gets the password prompt and is unable to load the XML.

So, does anyone have suggestions on how to work around this?

I'd like to realize a full flash website. Before I throw myseelf into it, I try to think of the different necessary steps.

Right now I have troubles with some questions to which I hope you'll have some answers.

So the site will be structured as a main flash movie contained in a PHP webpage. The main movie loading MC on the fly depending of the button menu pressed. Nothing special really.

1) Since the main flash movie will have to communicate with a database, the only solution is to include the connexion infos (server , login , password) into the main movie. However if one tries to decompile the file, he will have access to those infos and might delete the database. Really it's not safe, and I'd like to know if there are some tricks that would solve this problem.

2)For a part of the website I'd like the users to be logged in. Once again it requires a database communication. But is it possible to use the session variables of PHP ? Actually I don't know what's the best way of managing such a thing into a full flash site (the main flash movie having to check that the visitor is logged in).

3) I'd like to have a news managment in flash. To sum up in the database I'll have some text lines, and a few url to pictures. When the visitor arrives on the news page I would like to dynamically load the required texts in a specified format , and to load the images into independant MC. I would create a MC apart including a mini preloader, just to be the container for the photos. IS it easily to realize that.

4) Still using dynamically loaded MC, I'd like to realize a photo gallery , entirely in Flash. Untill now i haven't seen any example that fits what I have in mind. IF you understand what I mean and have some ideas ...

Basically I want to load images into a movie clip and the images are on a server, in a folder which is protected by password. Its a standard .htaccess type deal.

am preparing to finalize it and give it a live
test online, link is asking me for a password.

As I click on line, I am asked for User Name,
Password and Domain.

This looks like a local window server type of
deal ... I do not know how to add such action
to a link nor to a flash MC.

Can any body out there help me out with this?

Password Protecting A Movie
Hey Folks, could do with some help if someone could spare me a moment please

I am designing a site, (yeh I'm a newbie to flash) part of which contains flash movies that I want to password protect so that only selected clients will be able to access that movie once they input there password.

Is it possible (and if so how) to do this, i.e the first frame contains the password field, and when the correct password is entered it then jumps to frame 2 (the start of the actual movie)

Any help or advice would be really appreciated, including links to any tutorials on this subject as I have looked hard for some but with little or no success.

How Do I Add Name And Password In Flash Movie
I made two imput text fields, one marked name and the other marked password, with a submit button under it. How can i make the submit button take the viewer to a specific frame if the name and password is right. Also to take him to a diffrent frame for a diffrent correct name and passowrd?

How To Get Password For Flash Movie
Hi. I'm working with someone who has a Flash-based client login area on his web site. Unfortunately, the guy who created the Flash movies left the company on bad terms, and not before changing the client login passwords so nobody can log in.

I downloaded the .swf files, but, not surprisingly, when I try to open them in Flash MX 2004, I get "Cannot open a protected movie." There are no .fla files on the server.

Are we basically screwed beyond all hope?

How To, Load .swf From Password Into Empty Movie Clip

I have level 0 "main.swf" with an empty movie clip.
In the same folder I have "passwordPage.swf"
and "brush.swf".
I have been able to use getURL code with the password to open my browser and load "brush.swf". I have also been able to load movies into the empty movie clip in "main.swf". This is not what I want, but I think it proves that the rest of the stuff was put together right.
What I want is for the password to load "brush.swf" into "main.swf" empty movie clip.
The part I think I need to replace is commented.

I need a password protection gate that E-mailes a password to the visitor if they pay to enter the site. I really need this or I can't take this job I got. Please help. If can be anything like .html, .swf, .php, .etc.

Tryintg To Set Up Password Page With No Hard-coded Information In Flash Movie
What I'm trying to do is set up a password checker in MX that has no hard-coded information in the flash movie, perhaps using two input text fields, putting the two entered values together, turning this into a variable and then comparing it the names of some .txt files.

Is that possible, or would something like that have to use php/xml or some other exterior language?

As a start, I'm thinking of setting up the adding together of the two variables like this:

but I'm not sure about the best way to compare these values to some other variable values without hard coding them into the script.

Loading A Frame In _root And Also Loading An External Movie Problems.

I have been hacking at a problem for a couple of days now and I am in need of help to solve it. Please excuse my noobishness, but I have a lot to learn when it comes to flash.

Here is my scenario:

I have my main movie (_root)
In the actions layer of my main movie I have:

I have a button that loads a new external movie at the end of which I want to load a particular frame in the main movie. I call this from the external movie:

Everything up to here works brilliantly....But my problem arises when I also try to load an external movie onto level 5 at the same time as I am instructing the main movie to play frame 610 from an external movie. I want the external movie to call frame 610 in main, and also load a new external movie on level 5 in the main movie. I have tried about every way of loading movies that I can think of but I can never get the external movie to load along with frame 610 of the main movie. I even tried _root.loadMovieNum("myexternalmovie",5) right after my first root call, like this:

Help Problems Loading External Text And Loading The Movie Into The Explorer

I have some troubles with my movies. I'll explain.
(Sorry for my poor English - I'm Spanish!)
I'm developing a website for a Real State Agency in Spain. My idea is make it enterely with Flash, but It's the first time I face Flash. I've found in the tutorials of kirupa.com the greatest help! But, still that, I need more help!

My first problem comes when loading the .swf into the explorer. I made a simple .html file that calls the .swf file to be loaded. The explorer says it's loaded, but I have to press the "Reload" button to see the movie. Can you say me why?!!!!

My second problem... well. I'll need a few minuts to explain it!

I have created a main scene. Inside the main scene I load the movies of the different sections of the site. This new movies loaded onto the main movie contain texts from external .txt files. There's no problem with the texts that are just a few words, as in the section "Acerca de". But when I need a bar to show the whole text I find that the bar doesn't work in the first time that the movie is loaded, and you have to click again in the section to access the whole text, I mean, to make the bar work. Have I explain myself?

Loading Bar That Shows Loading Time Of HTML Page Not The Movie
Hi,

I have a flash intro that I'm using for my site, but I would like to (if possible), have an intro HTML page that uses JS to pre-load the images on the site and show my loading FLASH movie while the page pre-loads.

I would like the flash movie's loading bar to reflect the images that are pre-loaded on the HTML page.

Question-1: Is that possible to do?

Question-2: Where do I start? I don't even have a loading bar. All I want is just a simple rectangle that has a bar inside that moves from left to right indicating that the page is almost finished loaded. Then when the page has pre-loaded the images I need it to re-direct to the main page.

Can someone help me accomplish this, or tell me where to find out how to do this.

Loading .swf Files While Main Movie Clip Is Loading
Hello,

I know How to do a Loadmovie command, but I can only get it to work when I goto the Movie Clip that I have that command in. For ex:

In movie clip B I have a command: loadMovie ("Submovie.swf", "_root.MovieClipB");
Which works fine.

What I want to do is while movie clip A is playing I what a command to Start the Load movie function into MovieClip B.

I have tryed many diff. commands and Cannot get it to work

Movie Loading Into Bankmc Is Loading Blank After Its Been Published
I created this site where it loads movies into a blankmc on in the main Fla file. It works fine when I view it on my computer. And Broadband connections show no problem. But on dial up connection. when you click a bar on the navigation. The fla movie loads in blank. You have to click another button then click on the previous but to load. Why is that?

Loading Dynamic Textbox While Dynamically Loading Movie
Hi All,

So, I've got a movie on the stage (but offstage) called: Card. Inside this MC is a dynamic textbox called: CardName. I'm using a for loop to create a column of cards w/ their corresponding textboxes.

Here's the code:

Loading Two Movies & Loading Entire Current Movie
well, having a bit of problems with figuring out my preloader :/. Iv been able to figure out how to load a single external movie with a dynamic preloader graphic that tracks percent and stuff, but i have not been able to figure out how to load multiple external files but useing the same graphic to track the percentage of the loading for the two as if they where 1. Also have not been able to figure out how to make a preloader for the current movie. LIke have the preloader at the beginning of the movie and have it stop, and run the preloader for the load of the rest of the movie file, then continues to play the intro of the same file after loading has been compleated. my code for what i'm able to do is below, any help woudl be helpfull :). Loading Xml Data - The Rest Of The Movie Is Not Loading
I have a custom FLV player that loads an XML file from our server to get the movie details, then once the data is successfully loaded the swf advances to frame 2 where the player loads the flv and the interface (stop FF, RW, etc.) Problem is that when I load the swf the first time, all of the XML is successfully loaded (I know from trace that all vars are set...), and the swf advances to frame 2 to actually show the movie and controls but it is a blank screen. if you refresh the page that contains the swf, everything loads fine. This has only begun since I added the XML functionality, so I am thinking the XML loading is the reason but I can not for the life of me figure out...
has anyone else experienced a similar problem?
the swf player is only 11k so I know it should be loading fine...

Greetings All,

I'm looking for some advice on the approach to loading multiple content "panels" on a website -- let's say we have a mini-intro panel (logo, tagline, etc.) and a news panel (rotating blurbs you can click on).

From a performance and optimization stance, is it better to:

1) create each panel as its own .SWF and load each one separately on a web page;

2) create each panel separately, and then use loadMovie(); to insert one into a layout space within the other;

3) just build all the functionality into one big honkin' .SWF.

I'm leaning away from Option 3, just for "simplicity of development" reasons.

My concerns are performance quality (will one approach run slower than another?) and bandwidth issues (how will dial-up users experience different approaches?).

I'm sure some of you have run into this before. I'm interested in your opinions.

Client Loading My AS3 Movie Into An AS2 Movie, Need To Close My Movie Afterwards...
I created an AS3 animation, and a client is attempting to load my AS3 animation into an AS2 movie that someone else created. They emailed me and told me to add this to the end of my animation...

I knew this wasn't going to work, and it won't even compile and throws an error. I know how to close an external movie using event triggers and listeners using AS3, but not really sure how it works with AS2. Any ideas?

if you want to skip a defined explanation feel free to skip to the bottom ---- section.

I tried as usual to search the forums and came up with obscure references to this problem. (now that I've said that someones going to search for it and find the exact thread I should have found :p)

I have 4 movies.

A) Main movie (a website for a starting jewellery company currently found at http://zephn.com/aboutface/

B) Gallerydirectory (a movie in which there are several buttons which load various thumbnail movies)

C) Thumbnail movies (there are several options of these but each is filled with buttons that load swfs which has a picture in it)

D) Defined image swf's (various photos inserted into swf's that have a fade effect applied to them)

Now that I have explained the set up I will explain that curently this works but I am trying to alter this slightly and am encountering problems.

Instead of loading just movie "D" at the end of this chain, which has a picture inserted into it prior; I want movie "D" to load a jpeg into itself "when" it loads. I beleive the term used is dynamically.

This allows for image changes to the website without having to insert pictures to the movie "D"'s anymore.

I can just drag new jpegs into a directory and the movie set up will just load the new images instead of having me edit every individual swf.

-------------NOW the problems I am having is I am unsuccessful at creating a movie which loads another movie in a defined movie clip, which by itself loads another movie or jpg within itself.

here is my working source to date. Can anyone nudge me in the right direction?

In this source I have deleted all the excess content from the site to make it more easy on the eye and on translating what is going wrong. I have also provided three examples of what I have tried to do.

In example "1" I have loaded a jpg successfully.

In example "2" I have loaded a swf successfully.

In example three (the desired result) I have unsuccessfully attempted to load a swf which loads a jpg into a movie clip in another part of movie "A".

[MX] Trouble Loading Movie That Is Also Loading A Movie
I created a Flash movie (header.swf) that did some animation then at the end, loaded another into it using this command:

loadMovie("scrolling3.swf","_root.dropZone");

It loads and plays just fine. Then I created another movie (video2.swf), that loads a movie in the same fashion:

loadMovie("tom2.swf","_root.mcTom");

By itself, this movie (video2.swf) runs just fine.

But now, when I wanted header.swf to load video2.swf it loads it, but the movie clip tom2.swf does not run. It just shows up as a white square in the corner. What am I doing wrong?

I have tried many of the examples from threads that I have read hear and cannot get it to work.

Sorry for the convoluted description. I hope someone can help an AS beginner like me.

Having Problems Loading An External File Into A Blank Movie Clip In The Parent Movie.
alright I have a main swf. and there is an empty movie clip called window1.

I have an external swf that is loaded that contains the menu. i have the clip loaded into level 14.

i am having problems having the menu load an swf into the empty movie clip.

Code:

loadMovie("about.swf", _parent.window1, "GET");
}
in firefox, the code above loads the swf, but it replaces the menu. it does the same thing in ie.

Code:

loadMovieNum("contact.swf", _parent.window7, "POST");
}
and this bit of code makes the swf open in another browser tab in firefox, and in ie it replaces the whole parent movie.

I need the menu and the parent movie to stay intact.

i really need help with this asap.

Loading A Movie From A Remote Location And Reloading The Main Movie
HELP!!! I have a flash movie that loads a movie (at level0) from a remote location.. There are two movies there, one that stops the movie and another that reloads the main flash movie (I just rename the swf's to toggle which one I want loaded). The problem is, when the second remote swf reloads the main flash swf, it just loops back to playing the remote swf again. I've tried using telltarget to make the main movie play a frame after the actionscript that loads the remote swf, but that doesn't work either. Are there any alternatives to doing this? thanks...

Loading A Movie (within A Movie) & Assigning A Random Start Frame

Hello everyone.

After taking almost a year off from web programming Im relearning flash :0

I haven't gone past the basics with Flash 5 and have a couple projects coming up.

The routine I wish Flash 5 to do should be something simple to explain I hope for a vetrin user.

1) Flash Movie A (180 x 60) loads Flash Movie B (60x60) into left most space (say slot 1) and then randomly tells Flash Movie B to start at a particual frame (random(8). Each frame is a simple image with an actionscript Stop; command).

2) Flash Movie A fades in 1st Flash Movie B at slot 1.

3) Flash Movie A loads another Flash Movie B in the middle space (slot 2) and once again randomly tells Flash Movie B to starts at a particual frame (random(8) (just a static picture like in 1).

3) Flash Movie A fades in 2nd Flash Movie B at slot 2.

4) Flash Movie A loads another Flash Movie B into the far right space (slot 3) like the others (tells Movie B which random frame to start at).

5) Flash Movie A fades in 3rd Flash Movie B at slot 3.

My feeble mind is having a problem telling:

1) Where to tell Flash Movie A to position each load of Flash Movie B.

2) How to tell Flash Movie B I wan't it to start at a random frame.

I have the fade in and fade out set

also.... slightly more complex.. Does anyone have experience in doing somethnig similar to this and setting a variable to define which random numbers were selected for each slide so they will not repeat. (i.e. after loading slot 1 it will also define 'slot1' at the same time it creates that random number for slot1 and so on).

Loading Movie In Same Level Doesn't Stop First Movie Downloading
I could see this in the Safari browsers Activity window.

I have made a site which loads external swf's using loadMovieNum - all in level 3 - upon pressing different buttons.
I thought that if one swf was in the proces of downloading in level 3, and you press another button which loads another swf also in level 3, the download of the first swf would stop - but it doesn't.
It replaces it on the site of course - but the download of the first swf continues in the background - using unnecessary bandwith.

It does the same with loadMovie in to the same empty movieclip.

And

_level3.stop();

...also doesn't stop the download.

Is this the way it's suppose to work ?- I don't like it. I would rather not use UnloadMovie for obvoius reasons.

I set the root resizable flash swf in HTML and used loadmovie to attach the flash movie. however, the loaded movie follows the fullscreen-magnification of root flash.

Loading An External Movie Into A MC - Part Of The Movie Vanishes. Why?
Hi!

I'm loading an external movie into a mc so that I can scale the external movie down in size. But when the external movie loads some of it vanishes.

For example - at http://www.halfmoon.org.uk/HMScreensaver4.swf -you can see what the full movie I'm trying to load does (sorry its around 55k).
As you can see i have one of those mouse following style MCs -except that instead of following the mouse it moves around the screen randomly.

But at http://www.halfmoon.org.uk/scalemovie.swf
-when its loading into another movie you don't see the randomly moving MC -It just dissappears.

The actionscript I used to load HMScreensaver4.swf into the other movie was:

I've got a couple of other movies that its doing the same thing to.
Is there any way around this?
For example - is it possible to load the movie into a level instead of a mc and then scale it? Or is there some scripting I need to include that will allow me to view the rest of my movie?

A first popup comes, with a menu; click on 'magasin' ...
There it should load a movie, but when I test it on a 56K connection, it loads for say 1/3th of it, and nothing moves ? (it should be an autosrollmenu)

Isn't there a way to make it load completly ?

When you close the popup, and click on the moving letters, the same window should open.... it does on my tower,IE6 but not on my portable IE5.5. It does in NN6.2 on both of them ?

Any reason why ?

Loading Movie Into Empty Clip, But Movie Won't Play
I have 4 movies that i am trying to load into an empty clip in an existing movie. my problem is that when each of these movies are loaded into the clip, I can physically see it, but it doesn't function as a movie, the rest of the larger movie is moving around it, but the smaller movies won't move. I thought this was because I put a stop action at the end of the smaller movies, but when I take it out, the movie just keeps looping when loaded into the empty clip in the new movie.

does that make sense.

HOW? Retaining Movie Size Upon Loading External Movie.
I have run into a problem creating a stand alone presentation ,, when a swf (movie) is loaded into the stand alone player, any re-sizing of the origanal is lost and reset to what the loaded movie is set to...

I know there is a way to cure this, but my referance books do not talk about this particular issue.

Please let me know what i should do via action script.

How To Preload Movie Which Is Loading Through The Load Movie Action?
I want to preload main movie and the movie, which is loaded later through the load movie action, with the same preloader. The movie which is loading through the load movie action is level 1.
What changes must I aply to the code of the preloader, to do this task right? Here the code of the preloader:

Loading Movie Clip Onto Different Level To The Movie.swf That It Is Held In
Hi Guys

If any one could put me out of my misery, it would be much appreciated.

I have a movie called main.swf and a movie clip within that main.swf called “car”.

OK so far so Good !

Main.swf is on level 1 and I want the movie clip “car” to be on level 2

I know that this can be done through having the movie clip in a separate swf (ie loading url onto a separate level, however I must have the movie clip in the same swf as main.swf.

Any help would be more than appreciated
