Client Loading My AS3 Movie Into An AS2 Movie, Need To Close My Movie Afterwards...
I created an AS3 animation, and a client is attempting to load my AS3 animation into an AS2 movie that someone else created. They emailed me and told me to add this to the end of my animation...

I knew this wasn't going to work, and it won't even compile and throws an error. I know how to close an external movie using event triggers and listeners using AS3, but not really sure how it works with AS2. Any ideas?

if you want to skip a defined explanation feel free to skip to the bottom ---- section.

I tried as usual to search the forums and came up with obscure references to this problem. (now that I've said that someones going to search for it and find the exact thread I should have found :p)

I have 4 movies.

A) Main movie (a website for a starting jewellery company currently found at http://zephn.com/aboutface/

B) Gallerydirectory (a movie in which there are several buttons which load various thumbnail movies)

C) Thumbnail movies (there are several options of these but each is filled with buttons that load swfs which has a picture in it)

D) Defined image swf's (various photos inserted into swf's that have a fade effect applied to them)

Now that I have explained the set up I will explain that curently this works but I am trying to alter this slightly and am encountering problems.

Instead of loading just movie "D" at the end of this chain, which has a picture inserted into it prior; I want movie "D" to load a jpeg into itself "when" it loads. I beleive the term used is dynamically.

This allows for image changes to the website without having to insert pictures to the movie "D"'s anymore.

I can just drag new jpegs into a directory and the movie set up will just load the new images instead of having me edit every individual swf.

-------------NOW the problems I am having is I am unsuccessful at creating a movie which loads another movie in a defined movie clip, which by itself loads another movie or jpg within itself.

here is my working source to date. Can anyone nudge me in the right direction?

In this source I have deleted all the excess content from the site to make it more easy on the eye and on translating what is going wrong. I have also provided three examples of what I have tried to do.

In example "1" I have loaded a jpg successfully.

In example "2" I have loaded a swf successfully.

In example three (the desired result) I have unsuccessfully attempted to load a swf which loads a jpg into a movie clip in another part of movie "A".

Having Problems Loading An External File Into A Blank Movie Clip In The Parent Movie.
alright I have a main swf. and there is an empty movie clip called window1.

I have an external swf that is loaded that contains the menu. i have the clip loaded into level 14.

i am having problems having the menu load an swf into the empty movie clip.

Code:
on (release) {
loadMovie("about.swf", _parent.window1, "GET");
}
in firefox, the code above loads the swf, but it replaces the menu. it does the same thing in ie.

Code:
on (release) {
loadMovieNum("contact.swf", _parent.window7, "POST");
}
and this bit of code makes the swf open in another browser tab in firefox, and in ie it replaces the whole parent movie.

I need the menu and the parent movie to stay intact.

i really need help with this asap.

Problem With Loading Larger Size Movie Into Level 0 Original Movie

i am trying to load a larger stage size movie into replacing the smaller original movie, but the larger movie always gets cropped when it's loaded on top of the level 0 movie. is there another approach?

Loading A Movie From A Remote Location And Reloading The Main Movie
HELP!!! I have a flash movie that loads a movie (at level0) from a remote location.. There are two movies there, one that stops the movie and another that reloads the main flash movie (I just rename the swf's to toggle which one I want loaded). The problem is, when the second remote swf reloads the main flash swf, it just loops back to playing the remote swf again. I've tried using telltarget to make the main movie play a frame after the actionscript that loads the remote swf, but that doesn't work either. Are there any alternatives to doing this? thanks...

Loading A Movie (within A Movie) & Assigning A Random Start Frame

Hello everyone.

After taking almost a year off from web programming Im relearning flash :0

I haven't gone past the basics with Flash 5 and have a couple projects coming up.

The routine I wish Flash 5 to do should be something simple to explain I hope for a vetrin user.

1) Flash Movie A (180 x 60) loads Flash Movie B (60x60) into left most space (say slot 1) and then randomly tells Flash Movie B to start at a particual frame (random(8). Each frame is a simple image with an actionscript Stop; command).

2) Flash Movie A fades in 1st Flash Movie B at slot 1.

3) Flash Movie A loads another Flash Movie B in the middle space (slot 2) and once again randomly tells Flash Movie B to starts at a particual frame (random(8) (just a static picture like in 1).

3) Flash Movie A fades in 2nd Flash Movie B at slot 2.

4) Flash Movie A loads another Flash Movie B into the far right space (slot 3) like the others (tells Movie B which random frame to start at).

5) Flash Movie A fades in 3rd Flash Movie B at slot 3.

My feeble mind is having a problem telling:

1) Where to tell Flash Movie A to position each load of Flash Movie B.

2) How to tell Flash Movie B I wan't it to start at a random frame.

I have the fade in and fade out set

also.... slightly more complex.. Does anyone have experience in doing somethnig similar to this and setting a variable to define which random numbers were selected for each slide so they will not repeat. (i.e. after loading slot 1 it will also define 'slot1' at the same time it creates that random number for slot1 and so on).

Loading Movie In Same Level Doesn't Stop First Movie Downloading
I could see this in the Safari browsers Activity window.

I have made a site which loads external swf's using loadMovieNum - all in level 3 - upon pressing different buttons.
I thought that if one swf was in the proces of downloading in level 3, and you press another button which loads another swf also in level 3, the download of the first swf would stop - but it doesn't.
It replaces it on the site of course - but the download of the first swf continues in the background - using unnecessary bandwith.

It does the same with loadMovie in to the same empty movieclip.

And

_level3.stop();

...also doesn't stop the download.

Is this the way it's suppose to work ?- I don't like it. I would rather not use UnloadMovie for obvoius reasons.

i would like to make a full screen webpage with a resizable flash image as background, with centralized, fixed size- flash movie. Is it possible?
I set the root resizable flash swf in HTML and used loadmovie to attach the flash movie. however, the loaded movie follows the fullscreen-magnification of root flash.

do you have any suppestion to me? thanks for your attention and advices.

Problem: I Have a Main movie swf. where my navigation is. In that swf. is a blank movie clip where all the external swf./acting as pages. load into it. On of the movies that loads into it has buttons that I have linked to other swf. files/ is it possible to click a button in a swf file to make it unload and load a swf. in a different movie?,,I know that sounds confusing. sorry.
Right now I am toying with the idea that its possible if the blankmc is in a shared library. or maybe some export the blank movie for run time sharing?...wich I haven't a clue on how to do.

I'm pretty sure the problem is with the third movie. If I open the second movie (datagprogram) then the movie that loads into that works fine. but when I'm in the main movie (datag) the datagprogram movie loads but the third movie doesn't load properly.

I did have a conflict which I think I resolved so it works a little better but my link on the right hand side still doesn't come up and the program text loads in the wrong place. (this doesn't happen when you run the program movie seperately!)

any got any ideas?

hi, I have a problem with loading movies that contain loaded variables ,
here is what I'm trying to do:
Main Movie (loadMovie ("reset.swf", _level0.MC))

reset.swf (loadVariables ("crimea.txt", _level0.text))

and the problem is that the text (=crimea) isn't displayed

Have you any ideas of what is wrong?

Loading An External Movie Into A MC - Part Of The Movie Vanishes. Why?
Hi!

I'm loading an external movie into a mc so that I can scale the external movie down in size. But when the external movie loads some of it vanishes.

For example - at http://www.halfmoon.org.uk/HMScreensaver4.swf -you can see what the full movie I'm trying to load does (sorry its around 55k).
As you can see i have one of those mouse following style MCs -except that instead of following the mouse it moves around the screen randomly.

But at http://www.halfmoon.org.uk/scalemovie.swf
-when its loading into another movie you don't see the randomly moving MC -It just dissappears.

The actionscript I used to load HMScreensaver4.swf into the other movie was:

loadMovie ("HMScreensaver4.swf", _root.targetMc);
_root.targetMc._xscale=60;
_root.targetMc._yscale=60;

I've got a couple of other movies that its doing the same thing to.
Is there any way around this?
For example - is it possible to load the movie into a level instead of a mc and then scale it? Or is there some scripting I need to include that will allow me to view the rest of my movie?

There it should load a movie, but when I test it on a 56K connection, it loads for say 1/3th of it, and nothing moves ? (it should be an autosrollmenu)

Isn't there a way to make it load completly ?

When you close the popup, and click on the moving letters, the same window should open.... it does on my tower,IE6 but not on my portable IE5.5. It does in NN6.2 on both of them ?

Any reason why ?

Loading Movie Into Empty Clip, But Movie Won't Play
I have 4 movies that i am trying to load into an empty clip in an existing movie. my problem is that when each of these movies are loaded into the clip, I can physically see it, but it doesn't function as a movie, the rest of the larger movie is moving around it, but the smaller movies won't move. I thought this was because I put a stop action at the end of the smaller movies, but when I take it out, the movie just keeps looping when loaded into the empty clip in the new movie.

does that make sense.

I have run into a problem creating a stand alone presentation ,, when a swf (movie) is loaded into the stand alone player, any re-sizing of the origanal is lost and reset to what the loaded movie is set to...

I know there is a way to cure this, but my referance books do not talk about this particular issue.

Please let me know what i should do via action script.

Loading Movie Clip Onto Different Level To The Movie.swf That It Is Held In

If any one could put me out of my misery, it would be much appreciated.

I have a movie called main.swf and a movie clip within that main.swf called “car”.

OK so far so Good !

Main.swf is on level 1 and I want the movie clip “car” to be on level 2

I know that this can be done through having the movie clip in a separate swf (ie loading url onto a separate level, however I must have the movie clip in the same swf as main.swf.

Any help would be more than appreciated

I can without problem (1) load dynamic text into a movie clip inside a main swf file (2).

HOWEVER if I load the SWF file (2) in another Main SWF Movie (3) the loading ot the (1) dynamic text does not happen.

Any ideas ?

Loading External Movie From A Movie Clip In The Root
Hey, I ran into some problem with the webstie that I'm designing.
Let's say the root movie is main.swf and within the main.swf, there is a movie clip called buttom that controls the buttom animation. when I push that buttom, I want it to load an external movie, say, external1.swf into the main.swf.
I have the empty movie clip on the stage on main.swf . When I try to load external1.swf, it just wouldn't do it? (I'm using the loadMovie("url","target")command)

Help Needed With Loading A Movie (and Frame Number) Within A Movie
i would like to make a function (?) that checks a variable constantly throughout a movie.

the function would check a variable (mood) which is initialised at 50.

depending on what mood is (checked by using an if statement?), i would like to load a movie that is placed within my main stage, specifically a frame (labelled something like "Happy", "Sad", "Normal").

i have no idea where i would put the function, having sort of only just worked out how to initilise the value for "mood", no idea how to load a movie within a movie to a specific frame number, and no idea how to write that all in an if statement.

any light shed on this would be appreciated like you'd no believe (project is due in 48 hours).

Can you help me to do it when the textbox is in another movie or movie clip...?

I got some code to work for a basic load a file to a textbox... its just when there's a movie/movie clip I all the suddent have trouble...I use movies/movie clips because I like to break everything up and put together the parts and so if I change on part the rest of the site won't be affected.... In any case I could really use a Flash guru right about now...

Detecting A Loading Movie Inside Your Main Movie?
Hi, I'm stuck on trying this thing, I'm loading in movies for my site, I wanna make stuff load when clicked, ya know to save dl time and all. Ok, So I'd like a button to load in another movie, preferably in two places, but I want the cursor to be the load bar, and I know how to do all that, it's just to how do I address the movie loading in, so I can monitor it's progress?

Basicly I'd have a mc called loader, which would follow the cursor, and have this AS attached to the main timeline

I have a main navigation movie which I load a number of different swf files into it. The problem I face is that there are a number of buttons that are still active under the swf files. How do I stop them being active?

I'm coming from flash 5 to going into 8. Seems relatively easy to adjust, but I'm still learning a bit.

My question: If I have my main movie running, and I want to load another movie clip either from my library or externally (.swf) into a certain area of this main movie, is it fairly easy to do and what is the most effective way of doing so? In the past, I usually just loaded external .swf files into different levels on the main movie page with all the exact dimentions of the main movie so they line up correctly, but my gut tells me there is an easier and more effective way of doing so. Also, will the new movie clip I load in be able to tell targets in the main movie to do things? (ie: can I have this new movie change the background of the main movie on a button action. ) My brain hurts.

Loading A Grandchild Movie Into A Child Movie From Parent
hello - Can I load a grandchild movie from the parent? Here is what I have: I have a main move, a child movie and a "grand child" movie.

I want to click a button on the parent ( which is my root) and load the child into a container on the main, then automatically load the grandchild into a container in the child movie. I dont want any scripting in the child movie though. I want the entire thing to be handled from the main root movie.

Can I do this an how? Ive tried:

Problems With Flash Movie Slowing Down After Loading Other Movie

when you load one of the bottles movies and when you close and return to the root the main menu movie runs slower from that point but if you load the box movie it returns then runs fine at the correct speed, any ideas anybody pls. help!!!!!

I am working on a scrolling thumbnail movie clip, that when you click on the thumbnail button inside the movie clip it will load an external movie clip. I have an empty movie clip on the main stage, and have been trying all sorts of code, but for some reason it doesn't like that I am inside a movie clip using buttons. It can't seem to find the external swf.

I have tried:

on (release) {
loadMovie (ithink.swf, "loader");

and

on (release) }

and so far nothing, for some reaosn when I click on a button outside of the movie clip with the above code it loads... and than the other works too, but if I click on the buttons inside the scolling movie clip first they won't work.

Any suggests or ideas!!?

I was wondering if anyone could help me, I attached the code below to a button in an existing flash movie in hopes that when it is clicked it would create an empty movie clip on level 1 of the movie with the button and then load an external .swf (from the same directory) into or in place of the empty movie clip. i would like the movie to open up at a specific size on the page, how do i tell the movie where and how big to open up?
i would like to use an empty movie clip to load the swf onto, but how do i regulate the window/playing size of the swf?

also, if possible, could i have a script that when the viewer clicked on the swf movie that it would open up to full size???

I'm having major difficulties loading external SWF's into my main movie. The button actions are in a movie clip within the main movie. I've used the following AS to load in my external SWF files on higher levels:-

Similarly, my external text files are not loading!

All works fine until I upload to the server. It's really driving my around the bend. Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

I've got a movie with 2 movie clips, one contains my menu buttons, the other, whose instance i've named content, is essentially empty. I am able to load swf movies into the "content" clip based on the button the click in the menu clip, using the following script:

Loading A Movie In A Movie Crashes Flash
I am trying to load quite a complex movie (.swf) into a bigger main movie using,

loadMovie ("sub_movie.swf", dropZone);

this works fine for the first scene of sub_movie.swf, but when I go to the second scene which involves lots of duplicate movie clips and tell targets flash just crashes, if I preview in Internet explorer it crashes too. sub_movie.swf works fine on its own and so does my main movie.

Am I doing something wrong?? its driving me nuts!!!

Loading External Movie Into Current Movie
So...I've got a main movie, lets call it mainmovie.swf. This movie calls in an external sound movie (called soundtrack.swf). In the first frame I use the following action to call it in: (method 1)

loadMovie("soundtrack.swf", "emptyclip");

//This loads the external movie "soundtrack.swf" into a target blank movie called "emptyclip". I've used this method so that I can position the "soundtrack.swf" movie on the main movie. The problem is this; It loads, but the animation that is in the soundtrack does not play, the text is a bit blurred, and the sound does not play.

When using the following method: (method 2)
loadMovieNum ("soundtrack.swf", 1);
//it loads fine into level1, but the movie inherits the 0, 0 position, which is not where I want it. Animation plays, the text is crisp and the sound plays.

Is it possible to position the external movieclip when using method 2 ?What do I do ? Any suggestions ?

Loading A Movie Within A Movie Using Text File.
I am currently using a text file to pull in variables for a Flash movie.

What I'd like to do is add a variable that equals the name of a separate SWF file. (example, VarX = secondmovie.swf)

I'm not sure how best to do this. When I try to call the variable in a function, it doesn't seem to want to recognize it, yet all my other variables load fine. Something about pulling a MC within the main timeline just isn't working.

Any ideas?

Loading Or Targeting Flash Movie In Movie
The subject might not be to clear but i'll explain what i mean. I designed a webpage entirely out of flash (still under construction but uploaded). I want to be able to display short movie clips i've created in a box i made on the page. So far i can load up the movie from the url but it covers the entire page instead of targeting in that little box. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just came from a website where after the movie was loaded and your in the main interface. . as you click on buttons to view certain things, smaller movies appear with their own preloaders which then load and you can view. . .(example: http://members.tripod.com/betathree/ )

I want to create a similar effect in my masterpeice to optimize the bulk of the movie.

okees, here is my problem
i have a main movie. and then i load movies on top of it (level 1) but there is this one movie that causes problems. the movie that causes problems loads other movies, on level 2. now, when i look at the movie without having it loaded in the main movie, everything works on level 2. BUT when i have it loaded from the main movie, only the movies on level 1 come. and when i load the movie that loads other movies on level 2, it does not work. ntohign that should be loaded on level 2 is gettin loaded.

why?
