Loading Host Name From A Text File
how can I load my hostname from a text file to
different movies in different html pages ??
I've tried load variables on my first movie and worked
but when calling another movie that reside in a seperate
html page I couldn't use that variable again.
I had to use load variable on each movie to get the value
of the same variable ?? is there is anyway to use
load variable once and pass it to all html movies ??

How To Reveal A .swf Server Directory Behind A Host Html Index File To Save A Flash File To HD?
I FIND YOUR FLASH FORMAT EXTREMELY USER-UNFRIENDLY.
I spent two weeks to figure out how to save a complete .swf file to my local drive.
Finding 48 files behind a main html doc hosting those .swf's took 48 hours.
(Now I can't move my arm anymore due to RSI!)

No application to save a Flash file, seems to be able to do that in 1,2,3 convenient steps.
I always get bits and pieces or individual graphics.

I NEVER GET THE ENTIRE MANUAL the way I can browse the Flash file in my browser.
I am seriously thinking of never browsing a Flash file again if there is no solution to download e.g. a manual of my digital camera. I have the right to browse such a file at my convenience either on or offline! Online it's just impossible due to server overload.

Now I only get the desadvantages of the format to deal with (e.g. tons of spamming advertising) whereas I should be able to enjoy the benefits. Eventhough I gave the manufacturer the right to fill up 10 MB on my drive, I never got a file on my PC. And even when I did, I wouldnt know where to find it...
I hope Adobe would listen to the user more often...

WHY DON'T YOU BUILD SOLUTIONS AS EASY AS A RIGHT MOUSE CLICK
ALLOWING FOR SAVING A FLASH FILE!
That can't be rocket science, is it?

Is there away to detect the file name of the page that a flash app is running in? I am building a navigation bar, and want to dynamically disable links to the current page that the navigation bar is running under.

Txt File Loads On One Host But Not Another
I have the exact same flash files on 2 hosts; the actual client site and my own test site area. Both sites work fine when tested on Mac platform, but on certain PCs running Windows XP with Explorer 6, my txt files do not appear to load on the client site. They are being loaded from external .txt files using the loadVariables command. Any ideas on what is causing this?

(the pages that load the txt files can be found by clicking on either "About Me" or anything under "Seminars" found in the tabs along the bottom of the site.)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Host Loading
First of all, I'd like to say that this is not another request for a preloader, I know how to make them. However, I do have a few questions on wher to place them for dynamically loaded items.

I have a site with dynamically loaded .swf's for each page. I have the preloader at the start of the .swf file, but this means that every time I go to the page, the preloader flashes briefly before the page comes up. Is there another way to preload the .swf so that the preloader is in the host movie rather than the .swf to be loaded?

Also, is there a way to preload dynamically loaded images in the same way as I don't want to have to put all my images in seperate .swf's just o pre-load them.

Load A .swf From A File Host To A Flash Movie?
I'm making a music player that, for size purposes, is just a player until a song is selected. Once the song is picked, I use the loadMovie to load a swf with the song that I have stored on a file host. I tested it while all the files were on my computer and it worked fine, but once I uploaded everything to the host it stopped loading the files. I did change the paths from the ones on my comp to the ones online so I don't think that is an issue. I'm just not sure if the problem is with flash or my host. Thanks for any help.

hey im looking for a reliable free website to host and test my movie for my client, but it seems either no one offers to host swfs, or there is a rediculous under 1 meg file size limit. the movie itself is about 2 megs and im afraid it might take a bit to load...

i dont need much space. just a host wth decent speed so i can get an accurate view on the loading time.

Loading External Swf Locally Vs On Host
i am loading swfs into movie clips using the loadMovie method and preloading them as well to make sure they are there before running

this works locally, but when i put it on my server, it loads but then doesnt play?

i cann see that it loads because my preloader bar comes out and fills up
but when it is supposed to start playing, it just sits there

i am testing my getBytesTotal and getBytesLoaded and making sure my getBytesTotal is greater then 20

what am i missing?

Loading External Jpgs - Different Host
i found a site that has hot women images named after every day
so i built this flash calendar to go and request an image for every date clicked

the wierd thing is, it will work 95% of the time from my flash environment
but if i use my browser, it only gets the images for the one i selected while testing with flash

ex:
i run in flash environment
select today - gets image

i run in browser
select today - shows image
select yesterday - no image

but if i go back to flash environment
select tomorrow - gets image
go back to browser
select tomorrow - it shows image

sounds like the flash environment can get the image, while the browser only gets the cached

why is that?
how can i work around it?

Problem With Loading External Swf On Web Host

I've created a flash site with several sections, each is a swf that will be loaded externally into a mc called container. Here, dun get me wrong. I'm not going to ask u guys how to do it. Actually, I've managed to get it to work on my own pc. However, the prob is when I run it from my web host's server, these external swfs can't be loaded! I've experimented with several web hosts...all gave me the same result! I've placed all my essential files at same level as my index.htm file and have even changed the URL to be loaded to an absolute link but it is still not working. Has anyone encounterd the same problem b4 and knows how to solve it?

Dialup Trouble Loading Swfs With My Web Host
My flash files are not fully loading for dialup users. However- They load fine from a different web host... From my current host they only get about half way loaded or less... Happens with Flash 6 and 7 plugins.

Loading Multiple Movies Into Host Movie
OK im somewhat of a flash noob...

Im working on a full flash site. I have the first movie the one with the navigation and such trying to load 2 other movies...

one for the pages info main etc... and another to load different movies that play loops...

the problem im having is im trying to load the main page and the main loop on the script layer...

i have that... when i do that is just loops between the two... when i just use one it works fine... but with both.. it don't work it has a seizure... and convulses... anyone know a fix?

[MX]Trying To Load A Movie Into Host Movie But Scales Up To Host's Stage Size.
I have got 3 different size movies one of which will be loaded into a main movie dependant on the result of a browser setting query executed by: System.capabilities.screenResolutionX;.

The problem I am having is getting the movies loaded into the host movie to retain their original dimensions. Although I have set the “Dimensions” setting to “Match Movie” in the movie to be loaded, it always scales up to the size of the stage in the host movie?

I had thought about loading the movie into a clip & then scaling that, but the partial example in a reference book that i'm using, although not explaining the whole process, does load a swf into a host movie not a clip.

Problem W/ Sound Object File Loading Into A Holder File
Hi all,

I have a 4 mb file that I am loading into a main holder file. I am using loadmovienum to do this. In the 4mb file that i am loading in, i am using a sound object to control and play my audio.

Problem: when i publish the holder file, the 4 mb file loads just fine, but the audio doesn't play.

I have an online game for free distribution that will be hosted in several different hosts.

Well, any time the game is played it runs a remote PHP script at MY server. I would like to know if the game could capture the url of the host where it is to send to my PHP script, then I can keep a game statistics to know in which host it is being played more times. Make sense?

Anyway, if url is not possible, maybe the IP would be satisfactory.

Any ideas?

PS: Someone told me that I could embed a PHP code within the Flash to get this info, but I think that's not possible. Beside that, even if it could be possible, I think that's not a good idea since it would be unusefull in a Windows Server, or even in a server that doesnt offer server side scripting. This way, I am looking for a Flash native solution.

I've come across sites that load the photos really fast with really large images. For my site, I have saved all my images for web and compressed them, and if I make my image as big as theirs, they load much slower than these sites.

Small Flash File Loading Into HTML - Weird Sporadic Loading

I'm hoping someone can help...

I have a very small Flash file (less than 5k) loaded into a table cell of an HTML page .

On occasion (on Mac/IE) there is a flash of white appears in the table cell before the file starts. On other occasions only a portion of the file appears (while the rest of the cell is white). And at other times, none of the file appears (the table cell that it's in is appears as white).

The background of the flash file is orange (not white) so I guess that means that none of the Flash has loaded. Sometimes when I refresh the page, the problem resolves itself.

Does anyone know what the problem may be? Is there any sort of pre-loading JavaScript that would help, even though the file is very small to begin with?

I have a movie where at one point it plays a .swf movie in it, now on my computer it works perfect, but when i upload it, it just is blank during the time it should be playing... any ideas?

Loading An Array Of File Names From A Text File.
Basically I want to do the following.

Create an array of

Image[x] = "x.jpg"

from a text file where the images are listed as

x.jpg
y.jpg
z.jpg

I can't figure out how to load these in an array and I haven't been able to produce this from the closest examples I have found.

Preloading A Host
I have a movie that has a host that loads in an external swf file.
At the beginning I have a preloader which is preloading the master movie, but it doesn't seem to be preloading my imported swf file.
This is a problem because i am importing quite a large Mp3 file as a swf file.
Does anybody have any ideas. I can send an example of my work if anybody can help me out with this one.
