Loading Swf Movies In New Windows
A very simple but taxing question!
I would like to build a flash movie to play on a CD. In this, I'd like a main menu screen with buttons that link to external swf files.
I'd like the external swf files to open in new windows while the main menu still remains open, will this happen?

I know I can get this to operate if I use html containers for the swf files, however I'd prefer to make the whole thing a standalone swf movie.
Any ideas?

Loading Component Windows
Hello,

I'm attempting to create a site using Flash MX 2004. So far I've been able to set up everything the way that I want it. I have four buttons that I want to load four different windows. I drag and dropped the windows in from the components menu in Flash. What I can't figure out now, is how to load these component windows by clicking on the buttons. Also, when I test my movie, all four windows show up. I would like it to work where the windows only load up when the user clicks on the button for each window. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Flash Not Loading Windows XP
I have been having problems with launching Flash 8 Professional.
When I launch the application nothing pops up. I check the task bar, and Flash.exe is running at over 26,000K!
I purchased this program couple yeas ago when it was first released and it worked perfectly, and I'm happy to say that Flash has saved me lots of financial turmoil. I guess the tables have turned. I have several projects coming up, and I really don't want to resort to Swish! Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Loading And Unloading Movies As 'windows'
This is how i currently load my windows..

But how can I name the instances?
and how can i make them appear in a specified postition in the movie?
Also how can i close the windows?
Would making them invisible be sufficient? - I tried unloading them but they isn't an 'unloadmovie ""' type command.. it's all based on levels and that is gunna get messy..
so yeah how can i do this?

Loading Up Seperate Flash Windows From A CD
In my Flash application (which is on CD not in a browser!) I'm using loadMovieNum to load up other .swf's (it's a portfolio piece) for people to try.

They all work except they are opening up inside the main movie (so I get these .swf's floating above the main portfolio).

I need to get them in their own Flash pop-up windows. Is there a piece of code I can enter onto the buttons that are loading these .swf's?

Can you please help?

Movie Not Loading Into A Clip On IE Windows
The following seems to NOT work on IE for windows (xp at least) but works on Mac safari, IE Mac, firefox (both systems).

Loading Windows From Flash Prob
HI

I'm trying to load a pop up window from Flash using:

this call from the Flash movie

together with this in the page that embeds the movie:

This works fine but I have other pages that I want to call from the Flash movie and load into the same window. What I find though is that the popup loses focus and dissappears behind the original window when called for the second time.

Is there any way of ensuring that every time it's called it focuses in front of everything. Unfortunately I can't use "onLoad=self.focus()" in the destination file because I can't amend the files in question. Is there a solution that would work with existing code I have?

Flash Detection With Moock FPI: Windows/IE Loading Issues
I've installed Colin Moock's Flash Player Inspector scripts on a new site, and everything works fine on the Mac side (IE & Safari), but Windows/IE just hangs. IE continues to "spin", but the SWFs never load (all other graphics do, though).

Has anyone else seen this problem before? ...And figured out how to fix it?

External Loaded Jpegs Not Loading On Windows Netscape
Does any one know an answer to this.
I have external jpegs loading into my mc. they show up on Macintosh on both explorer and netscape, and on Windows on only explorer. They will not load in Windows Netscape.
Any suggestions would be great.

Loading Frames
I know this must be very simple because I see it on every movie!

How do you write the code which makes my movie (which has several scenes) load a specified amount (say the first 1 or 2 scenes) before starting to play (or whatever is best to make the thing work).

Whenever I try, it never seems to load properly before launching into the movie proper. Result is the viewer has problems with the movie not working correctly. Once its been up for a while it's OK.

I see people with complex bars that even show the percentages loaded. That'd be great!

Also, is there any way to make a button which takes a viewer to the previous scene they viewed - as opposed to the last one in the scene list?

Can someone help me out. When I use:

The movie works properly and loads the movie before playing, however, I want only to load up to a certain frame (example)

Am I trying to do the impossible here or is it just rare?

All I want to do is to have an XML file with a list of images - frames for an animation - and load them into a Movie Clip and play it.

Everything works great, that is when I test it on my Mac, when I try it in Windows under virtual PC explorer won't load the external text files into my movie. However when I load the page in frames, which I do for mr url redirection it refuses to wkr.

What it is I link to a javascript in teh main page from the flash window. I use the goto command in Actionscript to direct the movie to javascriptpenwin('portal.htm'); or something along those lines.

Then you click an area of the house and the window should open.
Like I said this works fine until the flash movie is loaded into frames.

Adding _self, _blank, _parent and _top doesn't help.

[F8]Loading Into Targets From Other Frames
Hey- I've recently learned how to load an external image or .swf into a target (i.e. an empty movie clip or containerClip). It works fine until I try to have a button load an external file into a containerClip that resides in a different keyframe. In other words, one would click button instance "myBtn" in frame 1 and it should:

a) bring you to frame 45 on the root timeline

AND

b) load an .swf into the containerClip which resides in frame 45

I can't get it to work!

(Once I've got that down I've got to somehow attach a preloader to it, but let's just solve the first problem for now!)

Loading Movie On Different Frames
I have a banner that plays from frame 1. I want to play it only on the home page of my site. After the home page I want the banner to start on frame 120.

I can not figure out how to do this through actionscript. The easy solution would be to make a different swf file for the pages other then the home page BUT I am working with a template which forces the same file to be on all pages. Therefore, actionscript is really the only way I can think of to accomplish this. Please Help.

Loading Images In Different Frames..
Hello,

what I want to do is:

Load a number of external images i.e. "image0.jpg" to "image20.jpg". However i want to load them inside a movie clip Container's relevant frames...

So as image0.jpg will be loaded in Container's frame 1,
image1.jpg will be loaded in Container's frame 2,
image2.jpg will be loaded in Container's frame 3, ...

As if I had an images' container containing an image for each of its frame...but do that dynamically..

Hope you get the idea...

I was just wandering how I should go about it.....

I though of having a Container mc and nested Containers for each frame of the container...but then I should have a fixed number of frames..and I don't want that...There should be a way to "add" frames dynamically, that I am not aware of...please help

Loading PHP Data In Different Frames
Hey there,

I have a problem with building my website. I use a Mysql database in which I made a table with text lines. In my flash site i used a loadVars to read the a php file. This works fine for the first frame. The problem is that i don't know how change the data in a next frame.

The loadVars runs when loading the site. When the button is pressed to go to the next page the movie goes to frame 2. The text for this page is the second database line, but only the first database line is shown.

I hope someone can give me a hint how to adjust this.

EDIT - I just copied this part from my other thread becuase i realised it is an entirely new question in itself :D

Morning all (well it may not be morning for some of you...oops lol)

I had some inspiration last night for some future development.

I was thinking that for the home page navigation I could have three buttons:

Guitars, Contact & Order, Lessons.

Then when you clicked the "guitars" button it would open but the guitars section which would have the buttons that are currently on the navigation at the moment.

Now I have an idea how to do this, and yes it maybe that I use just one extra scene with the other buttons on, or...and possibly much easier, is have it on the same scene just on some later frames, so its a simple gotoAndPlay command, what I want to know is when im using my back buttons to open the new fla, can I tell it where abouts to go and play? obviously the back button on the electric guitars will not take you back to the home page now, but the "guitars" page.

If that makes sense, im pretty sure its a simple piece of code but im not sure if its possible?

Frames Loading Problem
I have a page made up of 3 html pages set out in frames,
which are 3 html files are top,main and screen (.htm)

the top frame is just a header with data "This is my site", "u are welcome...etc."

the main frame consists of links which are targetted on the page "screen.htm" page

the code frameset is :

Now, the screen.htm has javascript loaded in it... which displays a javascript prompt and asks for a name of the person and then using document.write() writes it down to the form "screen.htm"

Now i don't want the other 2 forms to be loaded before the write instr. is executed in the screen.htm
After which i would want to load the main.htm first and then the top.htm (Is there any method to load the frames in order?)

Loading HTML Pages Into Frames ?
Ok. I am working on a Flash navigation bar where I need to target or load to HTML pages onto a frame set. Basically my navigation bar is on the top frame. From there I need to load HTML content onto my body frame (middle frame) and footer (button frame) when I click to one of the buttons from my flash navigation bar, which again is located at the top frame of my frame set.

Some how when I tell Flash I need to load 2 pages on one click (one page will go into the body frame and the second page will go on button frame, one of my pages keep opening in a new window, rather than load in the button frame.

My Question is about the last few lines:

What I would like to accomplish is to load each image onto its own frame so I can create an animation.

What I did so far is I create an movieclip ("animation") with 3 frames: I placed "myMC1" onto frame one, myMC2 onto frame 2 and so on.
However, this is no possible solution anymore, since the amount of images vary.

So now my question: how do I add frames to a movieclip with actionscript and then load a movieclip onto that frame? Is it even possible? I tried lots of ways but came to the conclusion that this is the only possible way, however I could not figure out how to do it.

Any Input or codesnippets or whatever would be greatly appreciated.

I've been struggling with this issue now for a few days, and haven't been able to find a way around it. I have an swf in one frame (called 'nav') that has buttons, which when pressed, are supposed to load a new HTML file in the main frame (called 'main').

Right now, the code I am using for the button is:

on (release) {
getURL("about/index.html","main");
}

From what I can tell, this should be working, but when I click the link in a browser, it opens the page in a new window, no matter what OS or browser I am using. I am developing on a Mac if that could possibly have anything to do with it.

Loading Txt Files On Seperate Frames
I have a mc that has 4 frames in it. At the top is a menu with 4 buttons. In each frame I have a text field (with its own keyframe and individual instance name) that I load an external txt file into it. I want to load a different txt file for each menu item. (I have it working for a single txt file, I just cant get it to change to a different txt file when the menu button is pressed) I am trying to get it so when you click the menu button, it will go to a frame and stop, then load the txt file for that frame.

So if you click "menu item 2" it goes to frame 2 and loads that txt file into the text area. Click "menu item 3" and it goes to frame 3 and loads the appropriate txt file in to the txt area.

Code for the buttons (on its own layer):

[CS3] Loading Frames, Application Cashes
hi there

i've created an animation in max, and I want to put it into flash... I have about 434 (i think) image files, 24bit bmp's... each 800 x 600

so when i select it in import, and allow flash to load the image sequence, i get the working progress bar, and then just a bit less than a fifth done, it crashes. no particular error, just a crash. because i have visual studio 05 installed, i get the just-in-time debugger.

i know crashes are rare/more a technical problem, but i'm wondering if there's something wrong i'm doing, maybe something wrong with my images, that could be causing this crash?

anyone familiar? or it may just be a problem with my system. im hoping otherwise

Loading Frames With Buttons In Flash
I have flash swf file set up on a frame. (HTML Dreamweaver) I call it 'timeline' and within this swf there are buttons. Now my question is
how can i set up a webpage were the lower timeline swf stays put but when buttons are activated it loads another swf file above timeline in another frame, but still have timeline swf reload or have it load another page.
I want it so that when a button is pushed an swf file is loaded into a frame above the timeline swf with out affecting the position of were the person is at in the timeline swf.

also i have been able to give an onRelease event to a button and have it load a target swf but it loads and replaces the timeline swf

Loading Clips/images Into Frames
I am learning about loadmovie.

But how do you load a movie on release of a button into a specific frame.
A frame that was targeted by the button's actionscript.

(Basically, I have set up a portfolio flash site. I have all of my images in the .swf so the file is larger than it could be. In the portfolio section of my .swf I have thumbnails that on pressing them go to a different frame within that clip displaying the larger version of the thumbnail. Naturally, I want to load these larger images in only when the thumbs are clicked on.)
