Load External Swf Into A Specific Area And Confine Interactivity To That Area... ?
Hello again,

I have a problem I've been trying to solve below.

I have a file that loads external swf files onto the screen, but I need these swfs to load into a specific 1024x644 area in the main movie.

I need the external swfs to maintain their interactivity while the mouse is over their area, but not when the mouse is over other parts of the screen (I need other buttons to still be accessible outside the area of the loaded swf.

As it is now, the mouse properties of the loaded swf take over the entire movie and render the buttons useless.

Below is some code I'm using. Can anyone provide examples of code that positions an external swf into a specific area and contains its interactivity?

I'm still very new to AS, so it's difficult for me to understand how to do things without specific code examples to look at. Also, if my code is inefficient or sloppy, please let me know.

Thanks.

var loader:Loader = new Loader();

function buttonPush1(event:MouseEvent):void {
var url:URLRequest = new URLRequest("mousetrail_644.swf");
loader.load(url);
this.addChild(loader);
}

Btn1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, buttonPush1);

function buttonPush2(event:MouseEvent):void {
var url:URLRequest = new URLRequest("magnify2.swf");
loader.load(url);
this.addChild(loader);
}

Btn2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, buttonPush2);

function buttonPush3(event:MouseEvent):void {
var url:URLRequest = new URLRequest("mapcursor_644_2.swf");
loader.load(url);
this.addChild(loader);
}

Btn3.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, buttonPush3);

function accessDenied(event:MouseEvent):void {
gotoAndPlay("scanner_denied");
}

Btn4.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, accessDenied);

I want the different menu area's to stay expanded when you rollout the red area (see attached file: red line).

I think I need to use a flag variable, but I am stuck.

Any advice, suggestions??

Ie6 Crashes When The Mousepointer Leaves The Flash Movie Area. [Flash Player 8]
Not sure if this is the right area for this thread, but i'm not sure where it fits in...

I have a draggable map program that uses LoadVars.load to send location messages back to the server.

After a user saves a location, thereby triggering the load() method, and then moves their mouse pointer outside the area of the .swf movie on the html page, the browser crashes.

I haven't been able to replicate it on any other computer except this users', which is using Flash Player 8, and IE6. Of course the only user of this side of the app, is this user, so im forced to find an answer.

Anyone else run into this, or have any wisdom to impart on me?

Work Area In Flash 5
Hi,
I am trying to create a timeline in Flash 5 and the problem is that the background picture is lengthy and cannot be fit in the work area of Flash. I want to put some text and symbols on it, so I cannot proceed.
Zoom functions just don't help because the picture exceeds the grid.

What shall I do? Is there any other way of doing my job?

Thanks in advance.

Naming An Area In Flash
Recently I have had a probem with my new flash/html website. on the left side of the website is a flash menu while the other main area is the news, info, etc. and there was the problem that when i clicked to different areas of the site, of course the page had to load again the menu, pictures, and stuff like that which my friends thought was annoying. Thus my question is can i name a certain area in the flash document and then in the "geturl" window set the target to that area and not allow the whole page to load again? Plz help with advice soon. THx

PLEASE HELP

Saving An Area In Flash, To PHP (And Other Qs)
First off, I'd like to say I'm sorry if this has already been handled here - I have searched google's cache of flashkit, and overall - and can not use the Search on the forum, since flashkit.com seems to be very slow for me right now.

Now for my question:

I've recently decided to take on the task of making a small "character creator" in Flash, or GD (PHP Library that allows creation of images) - but I can't think of how to do it in flash.

I want users to be allowed to cycle through hair styles, skin tones, add items to their character, etc. - all of this is easy, its just a matter of putting a "bind point" to each predefined area, as well as each image - and then including them; but heres the part that isn't easy - sending it to PHP.

I can handle the PHP part pretty easily, its just a matter of using sockets - but I just don't have any idea on how to send the actual image to PHP; would I have to somehow combine all of the sprites/images together, on the character, into a movieclip? If so, what would I do next?

Now, like I said above - I was debating whether or not to use Flash or GD - if I were to use GD, I could make it in a matter of minutes, but the bandwidth usage would be through the roof, as you would have to reload the image every time you change an area; would Flash have a similar problem, or could you preload all images beforehand, off-scene, and keep them cached?

Now for my second question:
Theres a PHP library called MING (http://ming.sourceforge.net/), and while I am unaware of the exact specifications of it, I do believe it can use 90% of Flash 6.0's functions; would this be enough for the job I stated above? I am much more comfortable in PHP, rather than in Flash - as Flash seems to be geared more towards designers, rather than programmers (Actionscript, that is - I still don't like the fact that each object in the scene can (and probably does) have some AS on it).

And finally, my third question (Which expands upon question #1):
Like I said in question #1, I want to allow users to cycle through skin tones - but, what I didn't mention was the fact that I'm somewhat lazy when it comes to designing - and really don't want to make 10 different images, of the same hair/body style, but with different colors.

So, is there a function in Flash, that gets a certain color on an object - and replaces it with another?
I.e. - I color the hair styles with an off-pink, purple kind of color - and I simply use the function to search for that color, and replace it with a color that the user picks.

Well, thanks in advanced to any one who can help me;
As you can tell, I'm a newbie to Flash, and am taking on a project that may be a bit out of my league - but its something I would really like to do, and appreciate any help given.

Html Area In Flash
i was just wondering if it was possible to have an certain area of a scene coded by html that was read from an outside source. for example

- - area -
- - of outside -
- - html -
- - -
- ----------------
---------------------------------------

i basically need to load an html webpage into my flash document because 1 its easier to update and change without messing something up, and 2 i already have it done and i time is a factor.

MouseOut (of Flash Area)
Hey Peopel

I need a tip on how to detect mouse..

I know all the basics..onRollout, mouseMove,.._xmouse , _ymouse.. but they all give the same problem.. cause if youre running a flash movie on a relative low framerate , like 15.. then the movie might not register that your now out of "boundaries".. (were talking out of the flashObject area in the HTML page)

is there a command checking if mouse is "in" flash area..or definetely NOT in flash area?

Flash Classes In Los Angeles Area?
Is there a good flash class in Los Angeles area that teaches actionscripting, usefull real world actionscripting, and transition elements and animation like those used on most entertainment (movie) sites? I've already done UCLA ext., didn't really teach anything new.

Viewable MovieClip Area In Flash MX GUI
How do you make the viewable area of a movieClip larger within the Flash MX GUI?

I have some rather large movieClips and I am having a hell of a problem editing some of my movieClips just because the GUI only displays some of the movieClip. I am not talking about zooming out, as If I zoom all the way out, I get left with the movieClip with the grey area around it. Parts of the movieClip are hidden behind the grey area.

The only way I've figured to get round this is to dril down the hierarchy, editing from the root movie.

Anyone?

Jsp Variables In A Flash Text Area
Hi Again,

In the webpages I work with, we have areas that are governed by variables that look like this:

<%bob text goes here%>

As the page is parsed, the variable is of course replaced by the chosen html content. If I place a variable of this sort into a flash text area that is set for html content, will this also change the content to the kind specified by the variable, or will flash get in the way of this?

Embedding Html 'set Area' Within Flash
I am trying to create a product CD in Flash for the first time. I have seen an idea that i would like to create but have no idea how to do this.
Imagine a Flash file 600x400, within this there is an area to the right that has html embeded within the flash (a big white square).
Each time the user clicks on any of the buttons (on the left), the area on the right changes to info regarding that button. On further investigation i realised that each of the html pages are actually html files being called and placed within Flash.

Can anyone please show me how this is done as I cant find anything on this at all.
Thanks

Printing A Defined Area In Flash
Hi,

I have an area on the left hand side of my page that i would like to print. ONLY this part as the stuff on the right would just be a waste of ink. Is there a way in flash to make a button within flash that when pressed will print out my defined area??

Thanks in advance

HTML Area Mapping On Flash?
Can you use the <map></map> element on a Flash object that you've embedded in a web page?

Code:
<object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=7,0,19,0"
width="800" height="68" title="WebPageHeader" usemap="#flashLinks" >
<param name="movie" value="Flash/WebPageHeader.swf" />
<param name="quality" value="high" />
<embed src="Flash/WebPageHeader.swf" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"
type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="800" height="68"></embed>
</object>

<map id="flashLinks" runat="server" >
<area shape="rect" coords="0, 0, 10, 10" href="resume.aspx" alt="" />
<area shape="rect" coords="200, 0, 400, 68" href="budget.aspx" alt="" />
<area shape="rect" coords="400, 0, 600, 68" href="weather.aspx" alt="" />
<area shape="rect" coords="600, 0, 800, 68" href="news_search.aspx" alt="" />
</map>
That's what I'm trying to do, so, either I'm doing something wrong, or it can't be done with a Flash object. I'm guessing it's me doing something wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[F8] Linking To A Different Area Of Flash Movie
Ok, total n00b here, but I've got a flash template, and there's all these clickable buttons and whatnot within the flash movie, but they're not linked to anything - the code is just blank, so when you click, nothing happens. I've got several different sections of my flash movie, how do I make some of the empty buttons link to different parts of my flash movie?

I know the simple code:

on (release){

_root.gotoAndStop(1);

}

but that just takes me to a different frame of the main movie, which doesn't help. How do I link a button to go to a different symbol, or movie clip, or photo gallery? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

cheers,
Matt

Mouse Dragging Outside The Flash Area
Hi,
I'm new to this forum but I've been digging many posts and tutorials from the website before and I'd really appreciate if any of you guys can give me a hand regarding the following problem.

I have this website:
http://clients.diseniourbano.com.ar/...tml/green.html

If you see at the top of it (in the HEADER) there's an eye in the middle of the logo that follows the cursor on the fly, but the problem comes when the cursor goes outside of the Flash area, it stops moving in that very position.

The code that's making the eye move is the following:

Layer 1
Keyframe 1

Code:
startDrag("drag", true);
Keyframe 2

Code:
setProperty("_level0.moving_eyes.reflex", _x, ((drag._x)/100)+85);
setProperty("_level0.moving_eyes.reflex", _y, ((drag._y)/40)+13);
setProperty("_level0.moving_eyes.eye_pupil", _x, ((drag._x)/75)+80);
setProperty("_level0.moving_eyes.eye_pupil", _y, ((drag._y)/25)+13);
setProperty("_level0.moving_eyes.eye_back", _x, ((drag._x)/200)+75);
setProperty("_level0.moving_eyes.eye_back", _y, ((drag._y)/50)+13);
Keyframe 3

Code:
gotoAndPlay(2);

The question is how to make the eye still move after the mouse leaves the Flash area?

On the Adobe website I came across a similar problem (http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-234) and it mentions some JavaScript that tracks the data from the entire page and exports it to Flash but I really don't know how to proceed with this.

Can any of you give me some pointers?
Any help you can provide will be very very very appreciated.

Thanks in Advance!

How To Make An Area Locator In Flash
Hi every boy. well I do not really know if my question is related to flash mx or mx 2004, but you can answer me in both case please.

Here is it . i'm making a little map in flash, and every body who uses it keep complaining about one thing : HOW CAN THEY LOCATE AN AREA IN THE MAP IF THEY ONLY KNOW ITS NAME.

So i've come to think that if I could make kind of search engine or area locator in it, that would be great.

example : having an input text box in the stage with a LOCATE button on its right. when the user type something and click LOCATE, it searches in the stage by mv_clip names or library names (I dont know, I might be some thing completely different, the mest important is that it works) and if it finds a match, the mv_clip with the name or wich has an mv_clip inside it with the name starts flashing with a sound notify.

BUT... I do not know how to do that...

Any help will be appreciated, thank you...

Extension Of Working Area In Flash

HTML Area Integrated Into Flash?
Hi all, new to the site, and working on my first flash site.... Good to be here! I've visited here more than once, but I have arrived at a question I cannot seem to find an answer to exactly. Oh, and I apologize for the crude drawing mock-up.

Basically, I have designed a site 1024x768 in flash. As of now it is a single flash document. I was originally going to build the entire site in flash as a single file, and essentially moved from page to page by advancing and skipping around on the timeline. I started to think this will create a large file, and low load times are a high priority. I have a banner area, and a navigation menu on the left, and a footer of sorts along the bottom and have left a large area for my future content for each page. On the initial load, I have the page coming together through a sort of "progressive fade". And then from there, the user can navigate accordingly with every page staying the same, except for what appears in this "content area".

So my question is I suppose, is there a way I can keep my flash site, but incorporate a small HTML content area which the flash buttons will change based on which is clicked? But all else will never change.

Let me follow that with, I have been playing around with frames but am not too familiar with them, and am not sure if I would have to "break up" my flash file into 3 files and then place those into 3 frames (banner, navigation on the left, and a footer) and then the 4th could be my frame for HTML. Is there any easy way to accomplish this? What are my options either way?

Below is a picture I mocked-up to describe what I am envisioning, and that whole thing at the moment is one big flash file with #4 as an open space. What I drew is kind of what I was thinking could happen if I used frames?

Hope this makes some sort of sense, thanks in advance! It will help me greatly... glad to be here!

Transparent Flash Text Hit Area
I'm building a flash menu with transparency, and I convert the text areas to buttons, and when I try to define the Hit area for the link, the only text area that activates the link is the actual text. No spaces between the letters. I want to define a box around the text, but I still want the box to be transparent so the background shows through.

Please help.

Flash Problem - Transparent Area...
Hi all,

I'm working on a little Flash puzzle game and needed a little advice.

What I'm trying to do is have a faded out layer over the entire screen except for an area (say a circle of 50px radius) around wherever the mouse is at the time. So, it looks like everything is a little out of focus except for a certain area.

I'm rather puzzled to know how to do this & wondered if anyone had approached a similar problem.

thx!

Flash Map With A Masked Viewable Area
Trying to build a clickable map as a shopping centre store guide map.
Pretty simple requirements, list of store names which when clicked, locates the store on the map and highlights it in some way.

I have most of the concept worked out in my head:
1. list of stores
2. map that is masked to a viewable area
3. click on a name and map pans to the X & Y co-ordinates

Does anyone know the code required to make step 3 happen.
Need to tell each button what the X,Y location is and then 'ease' in to that location.

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Newbie To Flash Wants Help With Scrolling Area
Hi everybody.  I'm a newbie to flash design and would like some help please!  I have used a template from a website I found a couple of months ago.  Find my site here:
http://www.clearlinetelephones.co.uk/frames/site.swf
I would like to know how I can make a certain portion of the viewed area scrollable to allow me more freedom with the amount of information I can display.  At the moment I am restricted to the text box which I would like to keep within the area defined by the design but I would also like the user to be able to scoll the area to access more info.

Full Flash Browser Area?
Evenin all!

Ive just been fiddling with some HTML code that gets a Flash file to play full screen in the browser and ended up with THIS which is great....except the white line indicates the edge of my stage!...currently set at 1000x800.

Now Ive been looking around and other site thats have this setup, like Amplifier and notice that the stage area is pretty much the whole browser area....so how can I extend mine to fit?......is there a certain size the stage has to be or something?.....do I need any code in Flash?

Hi guys,

I want flash to capture a specified area of the current frame (including an external loaded movie) and ask the website viewers to save the captured file to jpg or bmp files when they click on a button.

How can it be done?

Thanks, Rohit
