just been doin a bit of research on the use of meta tags to promote ones site and the ield looks pretty open. I know this is probably a pretty divisive issue as search engines have different types of preferences but what in short is the best way to use these tags to increase traffic. i need to know quick or boss is gonna kick my ass!

Hi, I have a pure Flash MX site.. What is the best way to upload it to the server so that when google and the rest of the gang do their crawls it will acutally list my site?

Should I just uplaod the index.html and all the .swf's or should I upload all the .html files and all the .swf's?

And how about meta tags? Only on the index.html page or what?

Hi!

can anyone explain where to put the meta tag codes when working with html and flashmx. would you meta tag the html index page and then publish to imbed into flash mx. i'm not sure how it works and when i type the meta tag code between <HEAD> and </HEAD> it doesn't stay or save. this is uploaded to the site once imbedded, right? please help. thanks.

Meta Tags
I designed my entire web site in Flash. It came out great but can't be found by search engines. Does anyone know how to use Meta Tags (keywords or descriptions) with Flash or have any other solutions?

I tried inserting it into Dreamweaver and filling in the keywords and descriptions but they disappear after I save the file.

I am html ignorant and new to web design and Flash.

I read everything I could on meta tags but I still can't answer this question.
I added the meta tags on the html file.
Now everytime I do some changes to the movie I have to republish it...so that I create the new html file. Is there anyway to keep the meta tags or do I have to rewrite them each time?

I have updated my meta tags as extensively as possible. My site is still not showing up on the search engines. Does anyone have any tips? I realize that this is more of an html issue than flash, but I figure that anyone that has a flash site (as many parts of mine is) they must know a little about how you can get it up there on an engine. Any tips on the placement of meta tag information? In fact I am not sure where I do that. I am familiar with the HTML coding but assume there is faster way in Flash. Perhaps there is a tutorial that would be recommended. Any help is appreciated.

We have website with 5 HTML pages. Each HTML pages holds a Flash movie.

I know that Meta Tags are no longer used, but is there any other way to get search engines to "see" the content of our site? (I assume they can't because all the text is in the flash movies)

Like, hidden HTML text "behind" the Flash movie? Anything like that?

Can you, and if you can, insert meta name description content and meta name keyword content into your html/flash site? If so, I need a small example to show me where to insert it. I tried, and when I pulled it up on a search engine it was all garbled

I'm working on a Flash kiosk and I'm hitting a snag. The client wants a menu that can be accessed from anywhere in the presentation to jump to any other slide. I posted about this before, but I think my questions were too vague. I've had a bit of a breakthrough, in that I've figured out how to make the menu come in and the whole thing fade, but I'm still unable to get the buttons on the side menu to do what I want. I'm attaching the FLA which is as far as I've gotten. As you can see, the buttons to go from blue to green work fine, but the red button is SUPPOSED to take you to the green state. I know there's a simple way to do this, if someone could just point out any errors or give me a nudge in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Since flash doesnt support any type of meta tagging, my question is this:
when you export a movie from flash it generates:



is this in some way recognisable by meta robots and included in searches?

Another Way Of Doing Meta Search
Instead of using the META name="keywords" for search engine in HTML file.

Does anyone know if there's a way of how to use it with XML and Flash?

[AS3] Meta Tags?
Hi, guys.

I've been searching the Adobe site for ages looking for a list of the meta tags ( Embed for example ) that can be used in AS3 classes ( when compiling with Flex2 / mxmlc )... but I can find squat.

If you embed an image I imagine that there should be an option for the type of compression used ( JPEG / PNG ), so I'm basically after a list of attributes for the meta tags... like source... [Embed(source="")]

Can anyone point me the right direction?

I posted this in general help, but I'm kind of looking for a fast answer, so I'm posting here also...
Just curious about the timeout for a meta refresh tag on detecting Flash page. All of the examples I've looked at use 10 seconds for a timeout. Is this a standard? If I choose to go lower than 10 seconds, like maybe 5 seconds, is there a possibility it won't work due to users connection speeds? Can someone clue me in on this concept?

I know this question has been answered before, but I thought, what the hell, let's ask again and see what kind of response there is this month...

Actually, most of the posts I saw are 6-8 months old, some with broken links, and they all seem to contradict each other.

If anyone can tell me what they think is the best way to setup a flash only site for Google, please let me know!

On one site, I added an html splash page, and some html pop-ups with an href link back to the flash home page on each of those, but I have a really anal client who is speaking to other web developers who are all telling her that flash web sites can NOT be set up to be found in google searches!!

I put the meta = keywords on the head of my html, but when I do a search nothing.
I notice something though, on my main page on my site I have a text button, this text say open full view, this shows up in google with my site listed under, can someone give me a better way for the search engin to find my site thanks.

Does anyone know how to obtain the length of an FLV file so that a scrub bar can be built ????? Apparantly the flash vieo exporter 1.2 will allow this information to be embedded in it, however I do not have the flash video exporter, I just use what is in MX 2004.....Either way what would be the code for this?

Parsing FLV Meta Data
Hello all. I am writing a library to parse out the metadata of a
FLV. It is working OK for a specific .flv, but the problem is the meta
data can be rather random of where it appears after the "onMetaData"
header. The FLV usually has a "onMetaData" and 0-n "onTransition"
headers. Usually there is a Decimal 2 byte (Start of text) followed by
a 0 (Null) byte to signify the end. However, sometimes this occurs at
the end of each 'videodatarate' and 'audiodatarate' data lines (which
is still part of the onMetaData tag)...so I am not sure which byte or
byte sequence signifies the end of the meta data bytes. Does anyone know?

all the content is embeded in flash movies or xml, that are loaded into the main movie;
so how do i include text that a crawler- bot thing will read and cataloge as relevant to my meta tags?
should i put relevant text in the html and then just comment it out?- will that satisfy a crawler.?

does anyone know whether with flash mx you can now add meta tags within the flash file to help with search engines. i know that it's best to put meta tags on the html page that the flash site is embedded into, but say i wanted a search engine to search the contents of the flash site.

there must be a way of doing this in flash Mx surely.

would all my text have to be dynamically loaded from an external text file - would that help?

hi, i'm having a problem with meta tags. i've tried serval ways, i've done it the modify-->document and then a box comes up where i put in the title and then the descriptive stuff, done that published and generated a size report and copied and pasted the RDF under the header in the html file but that doesn't work, so then i typed in

I have a flash detection in my index.htm page. Then it forwards the visitor to my flash.htm page. If I put the following META tag on my first page will my flash page get indexed in search engines?
