2004 Component Help
I'm trying to develop my first component. I created an fla and developed and tested the component there. It works great. However, after I export the compiled swc and import it into another movie, a strange thing happens. All the graphics are square red blocks instead of the gradients or bitmaps that I had originally.

Any ideas?

Hi all, any way to detect of an XML file has loaded completely when using the component? I can see how this works with AS loaded XML but not through the component!?!?!?

Problem With Component In MX 2004 Pro
Hi, for some reason the component in this fla will not work if I try and publish as player 7 and action script 2.

For some reason it is not recognising the methods?

Please help, I've just bought 2004 pro - and can't seem to start leveraging the benefits...

I've attached the file as version MX. To see the error you just need to publish as version 7 and see the degug...

It would be amazing if you know why this only works as MX...

I placed a component on stage and then I clicked on the icon in the library to go to the component script but then there was popup saying: Do you want to place an instance on stage. For symbols there is no problem. Any ideas?

Loader Component (MX 2004)
Is there some sort of Timeout setting on the Loader component? It seems to randomly timeout and give me -1 for the bytesTotal when I try to load movies with actionscript. Is there a way around this?

Loading Jpg's With New MX 2004 Component?
Is it possible to load serveral jpg's at the same time with this component without putting 1 component for each picture on the stage?

I need to preload 40 jpg's and display them in the same spot on a beat, so each picture will be displayed for about a second and then the next one and so on..

Or is there a better way to do this?

Window Component (MX 2004 Pro)

Im having a bit of a hard time trying to edit the appearance of the 'Window' component (MX 2004 Pro). I would like the component to be totaly transparent, but yet still be able to see the contents of it. If this is not possible, how about just making the title bar dissapear/transparent? If this is still not possible - does anyone know how this component works, so i could make a version for myself?
Sorry if the answer is blatantly obvious, but im sorta new to Flash.

MX 2004 TextArea Component
I'm pulling in some XML to appear in the MX 2004 textArea component. No problems there. What I need to know is how to make the text in the component appeare as embeded font outlines (softer rather than sharp, like it does in a static text box). I've tried using actionscript to define the components style, but no dice on the font outlines.

Any ideas?

I have dynamic text that in FLASH MX I would assign a name and then drop the SCROLLBAR component tell it which DYNAMIC TEXT field to work with and BADA-BING!!! i had scrollling text...

i cant find the SCROLLBAR COMPONENT IN MX2004 and the help section stinks... leaves off the COMPONENT LOCATION it seems...

HELP MX 2004 Loader Component
Hi there,

I'm trying to load an external swf into a loader compenent in Flash MX 2004. I've noticed on some other threads there seems to be some confusion on what this is. This component can load a jpg or swf into itself. The really cool thing is that it will load the external swf into whatever size the loader is sized to. Anyways I had it working at one point but when I lost the file I have been unable to recreate it.

Right now I have this code at the beginning of the movie:

_root.introLoader.loadMovie("intro.swf");

I have the loader named with the instance name of "introLoader". However I noticed that when you drop the component on the stage it says "mx.controls.Loader" on it. I'm confused as to whether I should reference the instance name I created or the Loader name.

Has anyone had any success using this component? I'm not sure if it came with MX 2004 or if I downloaded it as an extension.

Hello flashers,

Need to go live with my site asap. But components acting weird.

Separate swf files loading into a 'holder' or 'home' swf. All components show halo when clicked on when they are loaded into this 'holder' swf. This is so undesirable and is inconsistant as they dont do behave this way when seperate swf are loaded by themeselves.

I have never noticed this before as I havent loaded components in movie b,c,d into the home a movie before, seems totally stupid that they would behave this way.

Is there any way to set a node in selected state in the tree component.

eg : when I click a button, the page 2 should be tree item 2 should be highlighted. Can hte setFocus do it ?? Im not sure

MX 2004 Menu Bar Component
Hi, I am extremely new to Flash and need some assistance with creating a menu bar with drop down menus.  I am using Flash MX2004 pro and so using the MenuBar component from the â€˜Componentsâ€™ window.  I have dragged the menu bar onto the page and added the following code:

However, I have now tried numerous bits of code to activate the buttons when selected but to no avail.  For example, when the â€˜Questionnaireâ€™ button is selected, I would like to go to another flash movie.

In the Component Definition, whenever I insert the class name into AS2.0 class field, I cannot put parameters, they just simply get removed.

MediaController Component In Flash MX 2004
Hi there!
Does anybody have any idea how to add a path to the media controller component so it'll play all the songs in a specific directory? There's nothing in the Help file of Flash about it... I tried to do the same thing with the MediaPlayback component, but all I could do is to play only one lousy song and not all the songs in the folder... Any ideas? Something?

Media Component Scrubing MX 2004
I have been trying to use the media playback component, and was very impressed with it, especially the cuepoints. One issue that I noticed was that when you move the playhead in the player it stops the video instead of scrubbing it. Also I was wanting to change the status text from "streaming" to "playing", I tried doing this in the component FLA but can not find where the text variable is being set to say "streaming." Does anyone know a solution to this? I have been pulling my hair out for 2 days.

MX 2004 Component Customization Problems
I'm having problems customizing the components.. in flash MX you could easily edit the images / buttons used in them.. but it seems that feature was taken out of 2004.

I cannot get a text field to change the color of the scroll bar that is auto-placed when used and such.

Any help would be nice.

Hey guys, I am looking throught the help files for a way to set a components binding with actionscript.

Basically I am Dynamicallly placing Loader components in a grid and using a dataset that pulls urls for the images in from an xml doc to load images into each loader. I hope that makes sense.

Mx 2004 List Component Emergency
Help! I have to get this to work by the end of the day!

I want to have a scrollabe list that the user selects one item from and then clicks an ok button to parse a particular XML doc associated with that list item.

However, the contents of the list is dynamic. Its defined by an array of names: namesArray. The xml objs are in another array: XMLArray. The arrays correspond to one another: index 1 in the namesArray is associated with index 1 in the XMLArray, etc.

Ive dragged the list component on to the stage. Ive got a button.

On the frame with the list box I have actionscript:
myList.dataProvider = namesArray;

and the list fills up fine with stuff from the names array.

On the button, I have:
trace("selected: " + myList.selectedItem.label);

but all it traces is undefined!

How do I get the list item index that is selected!! That is all I need.

I really hope someone can help...

Problems With ScrollPane Component MX 2004
I am having problems with the ScrollPane component in MX 2004.

The problem seems it does not always 'initalize' correctly.

Sometimes when I initially set 'contentPath' the movie loads into the pane but the movie will display beyond the ScrollPane borders. The scrollbar will also not load.

This does not happen in any predictible way. The machines I have tested it on:

- Pentium 166Mhz Win 98 - Sometimes will not work correctly first time.

- Pentium III 600Mhz Win 98 - Never works correctly first time.

- Pentium III 500Mhz Win 2000 - Sometimes will not work correctly.

- 2x Pentium IV 2Ghz Win XP - Sometimes will not work correctly.

All machines have Flash Player 7 (7,0,14,0 I believe) installed on them.

It seems that it is most likley not to work (maybe the only time it will not work - but not sure) on first load or from a blank cache.

If I reload the main movie for a second time the problem will correct itself.

I have tried loads of bits to try and stop this, but cannot seem to shake it fully.

My current attempt roughly follows:

- The ScrollPane exports in the 5th frame. This is needed and exporting in first frame does not seem to make a difference.

- The ScrollPane appears on stage @ frame 40. It appears in the timeline. It is NOT created by ActionScript.

- At frame 185 I set the contentPath to the first .swf to be loaded in (section1.swf). This is done via ActionScript.

- (only just added) At frame 205 I call refreshPane() for the ScrollPane.

Flash UI Component Suffixes In MX 2004
I am not sure I like this new 2004 version of Flash MX. I really miss the Actionscript reference, for one thing. Click on the little book icon in the actionscript editor and you get the pesky help documentation, not the handy AS Reference.

And what happened to the code hint suffixes for UI Components? There are none defined in my ASCodeHints.xml file and I tried adding one and relaunching Flash, but it didn't work.

Plus, what on earth is the type of object if it is a Button component? What's the difference between a core Button object, a Button component and a Push Button component? What are the official names of these obejcts and where on earth do you find all this out?

Does anybody know where to find this stuff out?

Flash MX 2004 Charting Component
Hello.

I have created a 3D Animating Bar Component for Flash MX 2004/ Flash MX 2004 Professional. This is a trial version and anybody can use it in there projects. There is just one limitation to this trial version and that is, it will not display more than 4 records.

I have attached a zip file containing the component for anyone wanting to give it a try.

Also, I will be answering any questions regarding the component and in general about achieving any task while creating a component.

Ive used FTree from Flash UI Components Set II. It was easy to create nodes and attach them to the tree.

Now Im trying to do the same thing with MX 2004's Tree object but I'm having problems.

I can add items, but I cannot make them hierarchial. I can't figure out how to use this thing.

Is there a tutorial on this? I cannot find ANYTHING.

Hi, - if I use the component at hand in mx 2004 proff to make a video I get the controls and everything.

But, - how do I set the buffer time when I use the component, - I know who to do if I only use actionscript, - but not with the component.

Hi - I am trying to add a listener to the scroll bar component so that when the scroll or the buttons are clicked, resulting in the target moving - a function is called.

I have tried adding the listener in the following way, without success:

could anyone help me wit creating & skinning my Mx 2004 components? I've tried the "skinning components manually" section in the flash help, but it's now working. the file still uses the HaloTheme library instead of the library items i imported from my custom made theme file...

MX 2004 Scrollbar Component - Can't Set The Height
I have a simple input text field on the stage and have attached the MX 2004 UI scrollbar component to it. I resize the scrollbar component to match the box surrounding my input text area. Everything looks great. But when I publish the file, the scrollbar contracts to the size of the text field. how can I get the scrollbar to stay a certain size? I've tried scripting it as well:

myScrollBar.setSize(200);

That doesn't do Jack. What's the deal here?

MX 2004 Pro. Media Display Component
I have a video playing in a media display component. At the end of the video I want it to jump to a new scene or a movie clip that fades and reveals the site's home page. In the page, I'm calling an accordion component.

Here is my problem:

I tried using a slide-show to go from the video to the page which worked fine. Unfortunately, my accordion was non-existant in the page.

Now I'm trying to get the video to load the next scene or even a movie-clip with the site in it. But this is causing me a major headache.

Does anyone have any idea how I might accomplish this? Or maybe a link to a tutorial that could help?

MX 2004 - Control Scrollpane Component
Hi Guys - I have a question regarding controlling the scrollpane component. I did some poking around the internet and have been fiddling around with skins and managed to tweak my scrollpane a bit but not the way Id like it to be. This link shows the scrollpane without any skins (left), and a static graphic of how Id like it to be (right).

Any ideas of how to achieve this?

TextArea Component Problem (MX 2004)
I have a site, and its broken up into seperate swf's, each being a page of the site. I have one main swf that initially loads the home swf and then the nav takes over from there.

My problem is that on the bios page (About me --> Biography) I have a TextArea. When I test the bio swf on its own it works fine. But when I test it by using the main swf and then loading the bio swf into it there are problems. When you hit the up arrow of the TextArea scoll bar, it jumps to the bottom. I don't know why. Can someone help me. I have attached the files so you can take a look. Just run the main swf and then navigate to the biography page.
