Macromedia Flash Professional 8
can someone help me? i purchased a very simple template and am learning as i go. i have been able to edit the images and text and replace with my own files. my problem is this: the template comes with 9 pages, each with 4 frames. i am trying to add more frames to each page. i was told by the company to modify action script and also use the movie explorer tool. they won't give me any information beyond that and i'm completely stuck. i have added frames and inserted my images, and in action script and movie explorer, everything matches what is in the original template. however when i preview the site under publish preview, those frames do not show up. what am i missing?
it seems like it is just a simple piece i'm missing but i can't seem to find it!

Flash MX (Professional) 2004 Vs. Flash Professional 8?
Hello everyone.

I recently decided to order Flash for my birthday, but I'm stumped between choosing Flash MX 2004 (or Professional) or Flash Professional 8.

What I'm really interested in doing with Flash are games (such as those seen in addictinggames.com, and other sites). I also am interested in creating websites using Flash.

So I come with three questions for you today, that I hope you can answer.

1) What is the difference between Flash MX 2004, Flash Professional MX 2004, and Flash Professional 8? Which is the best to buy in the long run?

2) Can games such as those on the sites I mentioned be made but from Flash, or do you need to have knowledge of a programming language such as Javascript in order to get the game going?

3) What other applications can be created from Flash?

Thank you all for your time,

Rafian

[CS3] AS2 And Flash CS3 Professional
Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know if AS2 is not compatible with Flash CS3 Professional or Flash Player 9? And if it is not, then is there a way to convert AS2 to AS3?

I am trying to use the fscommand exec to open .pdfs and other documents, and I have tried EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING. I tried proxy.exe by Northcode, I have bought JTools, nothing works. The only conclusion that I can draw is that AS2 is not compatible.

Any suggestions would be great!
Thanks a bunch,
Rehannah

AS2 And CS3 Flash Professional
Does anyone know if AS2 compatible with CS3?

I am creating an electronic documents CD using AS2 and using the fscommand exec to open .pdfs and .docs, etc. This has worked in the past for me, but for some reason it is not cooperating now. The only thing I can think of is that AS2 is not compatible. Can anyone tell me for sure? Or maybe provide with a solution around this problem, I would really hate to have to go and change all of my coding to AS3.

Thanks a bunch,

I'm beating my head against the wall on this folks. Need some help.............

I'm using a preloader page to load the main movie. In the main movie I have a AS (loadVariablesNum). Now when I publish the main movie on it's own the AS works fine but when it's called up through the preloader it doesn't. Now I do know it's a communication issue but where?

To expand....................

In the authoring environment when publishing the main movie the AS is able to access my server and display the text but when I upload to the site and the main movie is called for through the preloader, nothing.................... I don't know if this is a _level issue or what because even in the authoring environment when calling for the main movie it doesn't work either. Only when the main movie is published on it's own does it work.

Help.............

Php Flash Professional
Need a php expert............................

Is it possible for (1)php script to write to to seperate text files? Clarification;

Say something like this partial code,

$ID = $_POST["ID"];
$STime $_POST[STime];

$filename = "schedule.txt";
$filename = "time.txt";

What I'm attempting to do is "ID" post to "schedule.txt" and "STime" post to "time.txt" is this possible or do I need to write a php script for each text file? Or am I way off base here? Now I have gotten "ID" to post to "schedule.txt" but not the other.

Can Some Flash Mx Professional Please Take A Look At My Problem Here ?
using flash mx.
this is a simple example i allready build in an attached .fla .
consist 3 botons , 3 Mc´s each one contains a 10 frames and a color square.
Mc´s:-------------------------------------------------------------
redpage: frame 1-5 brings a red square to middle of the screen 5-10 takes it out
bluepage:same but blue
yellowpage: same but yellow
instances names = Mc´s names

frames on each Mc´s---------------------------------------------
on each movie clip frame 1 _root.bluex="in";stop(); so it can tell if sqare is in or out
on each movie clip frame 5 _root.bluex="out";stop();
on each movie clip frame 10 _root.bluex="in";stop();

Variables --------------------------------------------------
redx containing if Mc´s are in/out
bluex containing if Mc´s are in/out
yellowx containing if Mc´s are in/out

Problem to be Solved:---------------------------------------------
when you run the .fla , we need to get into :
1)at the begining no square is out (working well)
2)if press a color buttom ,the color page should come out (working well)

3)if press any other color , then actual colorpage onscreens leaves out and replaced with choosen . (not working well, requires on more click)
4) if press same color on screen then do nothing . (working well)
Note:
at the moment it is working , but when a color is on screen and other color is choosen; it only retracts the color on screen and does not brings the actual color chossen unless you press it again. i mean two times .. (we dont want that ) we want the complete transcition at one click only .

this thread its being on flashkit hanging around for the last week , and till now nobody its being capable of finding to solve it , download the .fla avobe , that is already built as described ,and please help !!!!!!! cause i can´t solve it by my self ..

thanks you all

Best Books On Professional Use Of Flash?
Already know basics of Flash and actionscript, but I'm looking for books on how to take what I know to the next level. I can find plenty of books on basic Flash, but are having trouble finding books that illustrate the creation of things such as drop-down menus and advanced navigation systems. I would also like to learn about the use of bitmaps in Flash to create advanced sites.

What I keep finding is books that illustrate little pieces of basic stuff, but do not show in any way how to put those pieces together into a professional site or Flash app.

I want to learn how to do drop-down menus like www.lookandfeel.com and the sliding ones on www.ultrashock.com that incorporate features such as inertia, friction, and bounce, but can't find a book that really even tells about how to get started in that end of Flash work.

Any recommendations?

Php And Flash Mx 2004 Professional
Hi

I Have just started using Flash MX 2004 Professional. My big problem is I

want to load the three top 'cards' from a list of 40 cards which are

generated at random (which I have done using PHP code below).

<?
$cards[0] = 'card1';
$cards[1] = 'card2';
$cards[2] = 'card3';
$cards[3] = 'card4';
$cards[4] = 'card5';
$cards[5] = 'card6';
$cards[6] = 'card7';
$cards[7] = 'card8';
$cards[8] = 'card9';
$cards[9] = 'card10';
$cards[10] = 'card11';
$cards[11] = 'card12';
$cards[12] = 'card13';
$cards[13] = 'card14';
$cards[14] = 'card15';
$cards[15] = 'card16';
$cards[16] = 'card17';
$cards[17] = 'card18';
$cards[18] = 'card19';
$cards[19] = 'card20';
$cards[20] = 'card21';
$cards[21] = 'card22';
$cards[22] = 'card23';
$cards[23] = 'card24';
$cards[24] = 'card25';
$cards[25] = 'card26';
$cards[26] = 'card27';
$cards[27] = 'card28';
$cards[28] = 'card29';
$cards[29] = 'card30';
$cards[30] = 'card31';
$cards[31] = 'card32';
$cards[32] = 'card33';
$cards[33] = 'card34';
$cards[34] = 'card35';
$cards[35] = 'card36';
$cards[36] = 'card37';
$cards[37] = 'card38';
$cards[38] = 'card39';
$cards[39] = 'card40';

for($i = 0; $i < 40; $i++)

{

$count = count($cards);

$random = (rand()%$count);

if($cards[$random] == "")

{

$i--;

}

else

{

$deck[] = $cards[$random];

$cards[$random] = "";

}

}

srand(time());

$Z = (rand()%39);

for ($index = 1; $index < 4; $index++)

{

if ($Z == 3) { $Z = 0; }

$Card = $deck[$index];

$NewCards[] = $Card ;

$Z++;

}
;
$choice1 = $NewCards[0].".jpg";
$choice2 = $NewCards[1].".jpg";
$choice3 = $NewCards[2].".jpg";

echo "choice1=$choice1&choice2=$choice2&choice3=$choice 3";

?>

I then want choice1, choice2 and choice3 to be sent to their respective

MovieClip positions which I have named holder_1, holder_2 and holder_3.

However I don't know the ActionScript to make this work.

This is my code attempt

loadVariables("http://localhost/card_test.php", "GET");

loadMovie("http://localhost/images/"+choice1 , _root.holder_1, "GET");

loadMovie("images/"+choice2 , _root.holder_2, "GET");

loadMovie("images/"+choice3 , _root.holder_3, "GET");

Flash MX Professional Components Help
Hi,

Basically all I'm trying to do is load attached movie clips into a ScrollPane which works great however I don't want the scrollbars that this component has - so I disabled using <my scroll component instance> .vScrollPolicy = "off";
However I would like to do my own scroll buttons without scroll bar to control this scrollpane (no commands to make component scroll a particular amount etc though).

However the components in MX Prof are compiled clips - I would of thought youd be able to change them like previous versions in MX - I know its all class based now but cant find the classes if your meant to extend them - plus how easy is this to do?

I also tried using scrollDrag = true which is great but my attached mcs include checkboxes which a user clicks on and with this scroll drag adds another layer over clips which prevent user clicking on my checkboxes.

I also tried reverting back to MX components but the Scroll pane in mx only allows swfs and jpegs top be loaded in not attached movie clips.

Does anyoneknow a solution without having to create a mc and using masking and programming the amount to go up and down etc.?

Any help appreciated

Could anyone please tell me how to activate it.

Do I need to include actionscripts? i tried "gotoslide()" but it does not work. even tried autoload() also doesn't seem to work. is my method wrong or am i using the wrong command?

Please help. Many thanks in advance.

FLASH MX 2004 Professional - HELP
I have recently upgraded from flash 5 to flash MX pro and I am having real problems finding half of the action script commands.

Am I doing something wrong or is there a 'non' professional version of MX.

As a example, the coding for pop up windows. I have spent the better part of an hour trying to do the coding to open a new window in 'self on a button link in MX.

Eventually I did it in Flash 5, write down the code and then typed it in manually in MX', (the problem being I didn't know the code was actually "_self".)

Flash 5 did all the harder coding stuff like underscores for you. Does this mean I have to become massively proficient at remembering the finer points of web coding, rather than the computer doing it for me like in Flash 5?

Flash Mx Professional 2004
hi,
I recently changed from an older flash mx version to flash mx 2004 professional. Now, I m not very advanced with actionssript, but I was able to work around in the older versions, since there was this panel above the actions-script itself, that basically told me what to do.
In this newer version I seems not be there anymore.
Is there any possibilty to still work with this panel?
Would this panel appear in flash mx (not the professional version)? Or are my only solutions either to learn finally actions-script or to go back to the an older version of flash?

thank you for an answer...
really don't know what to do ;-(

Flash 8 Professional Issues On Mac.
Greetings to all.

I hope the new year will bring more goodies and it will be a creative year!

Straight to the issue now. I am an intermediate user of Flash and I use it everyday in my job. It's been almost 3 months now that I am experiencing several problems with Flash on my Powerbook g4 1.5ghz with 1.5gb ram running Mac OS X 10.4.8...

The problem is that Flash is really 'slow' several times. For example, when selecting a typeface (let's be honest which graphic designer doesn't have lots and lots of typefaces), I can understand that as having to proccess and show almost 500 typefaces...

Another example quite similar to the previous one, when selecting a text field again it slows down. What I mean with 'slow down' is that it stalls my computer for couple of seconds but trust me it's really annoying!

When switching applications again the 5 seconds of ignorance from Flash!!!

Am I the only one with this problem?, are there any other creative mind out there that has the same problem with me?

I could really use some help right now. Thanks in advance,

Dimitris.
