Macromedia's Global Security Settings Manager Not Updating?
I've been testing our site's Flash content for a customer (they are seeing a blank window) who I believe must update their security settings to allow all content.
When I first tried to DENY all content for myself and then ALLOW again, I got the same results they did. Ten minutes later when trying to show this to a coworker, any changes I make to the security settings (DENY ALL) do not take - no matter how many times I refresh, restart the browser or even reboot the computer.
Anyone else having issues with the flash security settings not updating?
Thanks for your help.
Macromedia Flash Player Settings
Is the default setting for the Flash Player Local Storage 100kb? How does that translate into amount of information? I'm going to be working on a project that's going to require a lot of information be stored locally. My concern is 100kb is not enough and we can't have the people change their settings manually. Is there a way to do this with code? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Macromedia Extension Manager?
Is this little gem still necessary for component management? (specifically, the Flash Charting Components, already downloaded)
I can't find it anywhere on the MM site - anyone got a link or info about this sucker?
Cheers

Size Of Settings Manager UI
I have a SWF that tries to access the mic and/or camera on the user's local machine. The Settings Manager UI pops up to ask the user if they permit this operation. I'm curious if there any defined restrictions on the minimum stage size I need for my SWF in order to display this panel. This SWF is buried in a frame that doesn't have a lot of screen real estate. Has Adobe listed how big your SWF must be to show this content, and is there any control over the positioning of it within the stage?
Any help would be wonderful.
Settings Manager - Custom UI?
Hi there,
I want to add Webcam functionality to my webpage. I want to add this functionality to the main/index page. But I don't want the settings manager to come up like a nag screen, shocking all my visitors. This thing looks too much like a intrusion detection / spyware alert.
So my question is: Can I design a custum UI for this thing, and leave out all the other stuff I don't need? Or can I access global privacy settings via actionscript from my .swf?
Any help is deeply appreciated, I didn't find anything concerning this issue on the net...
Global Security Settings Manager Not Working?
In testing a tech support issue yesterday, I updated the settings manager to "deny all" older Flash content, and replicated the problem they were having (they see no flash content from our site - white space only, but right clicking will show that the Flash window is there - "movie not loaded")
I reset my settings manager back to "allow all" and I see Flash content again.
Ten minutes later as I tried to show a coworker the issue, I cannot replictae this. Every time I go to the settings manager, change the secutity, refresh, close browser, reboot, clear cache, etc. Nothing is updating now. (I'm seeing all the old Flash content load regardless of settings)
Is there something going on at MM with the global settings panel? Is anyone else seeing this problem? (or perhaps they fixed something, as now all our older content is not being blocked on my computer)
Any insight would be much appreciated.
-thank you!
Code Works For Flash Player 6 Settings But Not For Flash Player 8...
Hi,
I'm pretty new to Action script and I have a problem here that I can't seem to figure out.
I have this Action Script Code which is attached to a simple movieclip, and it all works IF the general settings are set for Flash Player 6.
It does not work for Flash Player 7 or above, which is probably because this is Actions Script 1 Code...
I attached the .fla file and also here's the code:
Code:
onClipEvent (load) {
accel =0;
rate = 0.05;
trace(_y)
_root.ykoord=0;
}
onClipEvent(enterFrame) {
y=y*accel+(_root.ykoord-_y) * rate;
_y+=y;
if(Math.abs(_root.ykoord-_y)<1) { _y=_root.ykoord; }
}
Do I need to change the code ?
I wanna publish in Action Script 2 for either Flash player 8 or 9.
Thanx for your help in advance !!!

Macromedia Flash Player
Hi there,
I logged onto my computer this morning and all of the sudden sites that I regularly visit are now telling me that I need to download Macromedia Flash Player version 8.0 or later. I have already downloaded this before.
I downloaded it again and I got the video message saying it had been installed successfully however the sites still say I don't have it. I have restarted my computer and it still says it.
Any tips/suggestions?
Thanks.
Macromedia Flash Player
I been using for sometime Macromedia Flash 8 with no problems. About to days ago everytime that I go to my website I get the following error: Alternate HTML content should be placed here.This content requires the Macromedia Flash Player.Get Flash.
Alternate HTML content should be placed here.This content requires the Macromedia Flash Player.Get Flash
Do you know if that error comes from the website (I need to run an update) or it comes from IE 7?
Please help me.

Flash Player Settings
Could someone please explain what is it with the pop up box saying that flash player has "saved you from a potentially fatal. blah diblah" and won't allow me to go to any of my links...?
I'm not playing this from the player, I'm getting this when I view my html on my browser. I'm working on a site that will have a landing page in flash and from there will go into html... will this happen everytime someone tries to link to the html page?
It might be a really stupid question but I couldn't find an answer here. Please explain....

Killing Macromedia Flash Player
How the heck do I get XP to stop asking me if I want to install Macromedia Flash player? Since its become nothing but a new type of Pop-up add I don't want it on my PC. The box that pops up has a checkbox to "always trust software from macromedia" but no Never install option.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated
Works With Settings On Flash Player 6 But Not 7?
EDIT 2: I don't know what to look for really... can someone look through my code and tell me what might not be initialized? I have it posted at the bottom.
EDIT: I think it has something to do with initializing variables. I'll look at it.
I have a movie that is loaded into a parent movie. Originally, both were set to be published with flash player 6. I changed the parent one to player 7, and that works fine. Then I changed the child one to 7 and it doesn't work. It doesn't even do the first line of code on the first frame, which is to set a variable in the parent clip. What should I look for/what could be wrong?
I need it to be 7 because I'm using MovieClipLoader.
code: sendLoad(_root.currAd);
function sendLoad(idNum) {
dataRetriever = new LoadVars();
dataObject = new LoadVars();
dataObject.sendvariable = idNum;

Problems With Flash Player 8 Settings
Hi...
I have movie I just saved as Flash 8, but now my textfields are not showing up.
All of my textfields have a FFF embedded and they all worked just fine but ever since I converted the file to Flash 8 they are not showing up.
This problem seems to be happening only when viewed from within the browser, if you open the swf file, all of the textfields work fine
Also, if I publish with the Flash Player 7 settings the problem is solved both in the swf file and from within the browser.
I have another problem switching from and to Flash Player 8 when using the aligner class from Elvis Mehmedovic http://emehmedovic.com/
The first time I publish the movie I get 3 errors, but if I publish again.. the errors are gone
this is a transcript from the output panel

Flash Player 8 Security Settings
Hi,
I work in an elearning industry where we make courses and we have to distribute them to our clients. Most of the times they are running on LMS so the flash player 8 security should not bother us much. But, there are times when we have to distribute our courses in CDROM(not as an exe) and also there is development time when the client is checking the course at his end.
These are the times when we face majority of our issues. Since we develop our courses using Flash 7 or 6 we put a flash player detection code. The client to check the functioning of this code removes the flash player from his machine and then reinstalls it again thru macromedia.com. Thats when all our problem starts. The client gets back to us with the security popup issue. Now in an organization where we are serving so many clients and so many users at their end we cannot expect to educate each and every one of them on the security issue. Also what about the courses which we have developed in older version of flash.
There has to be some way out where whatever courses we are sending to the client gets added to the local to trusted sandbox or trusted sites in an automated way. As in, rather than we giving the steps to all our client/s we would prefer giving them some them installer which can automatically add our courses to the local trusted sandbox.
Let me inform you that all the options listed the macromedia_security_features. I have tried them and they have all successfully FAILED
mms.cfg (i dont know how it works)
We want some step by step documentation or example files which can help us resolve these issues once and for all......
At present everything given in the security features document is more or less in greek or latin to me... It says and it says a lot but it does not actually say what it should say to solve the problem... I hope u understand.
Please throw some usefull light on this issue.
Regards,
Brijesh
Flash Player Settings Pop Up Window
I just found the "Flash Player Settings" on a live SWF file. A little pop up window that appears when you right click on an online SWF file.
Can someone tell me what this function is for?
Security?
Cookies?
Browser Detection?
There seem to be controls for allowing someone to access functions on the user's computer. Storage space, microphone, camera. Is that correct?
The online documentation is a little vague on why it's there and what it can actually do. Either that, or I'm not advanced enough in Flash to understand what they are describing. (probably the latter)
But my client discovered it in a small slide show I added to their site. I had never seen it before, but I work primarily on a Mac and the usual alternative to "right clicking" (control-click) doesn't produce the little pop-up window. This seems to be a PC only thing.
I don't think they had ever seen this function before either because it alarmed them, and they want to know if I can turn it off.
Is that possible? If so, how? Perhaps when it's being published?
If not, is there anything I can say to assure them that it's harmless - if it is, indeed harmless.
The slide show was created using Flash 8, and published to detect Flash Player 7, with a "Flash Only" HTML template.
Thanks.
Flash Player Storage Settings
There is the Storage Settings in Flash Player when you right-click on flash
player and select "settings" menu. This storage setting also displays
currently storaged data by the currently viewed site... it is almost always
0kb, and when it isn't 0 its 2kb or some other small value.
What and when does Flash Player storages? Can this be controled by user?
Where can I find more information about this?
Thanks
Luka
Flash Player Settings Opening
I have been working on a site for the past week and last night I tested it home for the first time.
As soon as the site launches the "Flash Player Settings" dialogue box opens. I have no idea why it is doing this, since it has never done this at work and I have never seen this on any other site.
The site does not use local storage or a camera or mircophone. The only thing i can think of is that it might be caused by loading an xml file?
can anyone suggest why this might be happening.
cheers in advance
Flash Player Settings Panel
Is there a way to change the _x & _y of the Flash Player Settings panel? (where you change your Local Storage settings) right now it is always centered.

Flash Player Settings-Local Storage
I figured out what the problem is. The flash player has a local storage setting which by default is set to 100Kb...I cranked that setting to unlimited, and the entire presentation ran beautifully.
My question is, can I tweak that setting from within flash so that it automatically sets the storage to unlimited?
4 1/2 hours to showtime, and counting!
Thanks, all. If you dont know what Im talking about please refer to my otther postings this morning.
Preview In Flash Player, Download Settings
Hi,
When I preview my movie in FlashPlayer, with the download settings to 56K, I have the feeling the player doesn't react like it should.
I load several Movies (all between 10 and 20 KB, and with their first keyframe blank and a stop on it) into different levels into a Main movie on the first frame of the main movie. I give them enough time (about 5 seconds) to load by showing a little intro in the main movie. Then I can call the loaded movies to play.
This worked fine on another site I made. But when I preview my current project in FlashPlayer (pressing ctrl+enter two times), I have the feeling that the external movies are not loaded right away, but only when the user calls them by, for instance, pressing the menu buttons.
And I think this will be different in the 'real world' situation, looking at another project i have done.
Could someone tell me please if this is a know problem, or am I making a mistake? It's a lot easier to check the speed of my site in the previewer than to keep asking people to check it who have a slow connection!
thank you!
Jerryj.

I also notice other settings I chose never seem to save either. It is not an issue with the webcam or drivers as it works fine in other apps, I believe it has something to do with IE restricting access but no matter how much I research online I come up short....................
Code Works For Flash Player 6 Settings But Not For 8...

Do I need to change the code ?
I wanna publish in Action Script 2 for either Flash Player 8 or 9.

Flash Player Security Settings Not Saving
I've been developing content that I need to test locally. However the flash player throws the following error:
Adobe Flash Player has stopped a potentially unsafe operation.
The following local application on your computer or network
/Studio/tracker.swf
is trying to communicate with this Internet-enabled location:
localhost
To let this application communicate with the Internet, click Settings. You must restart this applicaiton after changing your settings.
Ok, fair enough. however when I click "Settings" and attempt to add "localhost" or the directory of my file to the list of trusted sites, it does not save!
This is driving me absolutely crazy
Anyone have any ideas?

FLASH Player Settings Panel Position
I have a problem with the Flash Player Settings panel when I work with big SWF (1600x1200).
This panel appears at the middle of the SWF size (800x600) and the users with a screen resolution lower than 1024x768 canīt see this panel if they press de Configuration option of the Flash Context Menu.
The problem is that this panel disables the movie and if you canīt close the panel, the movie will be disabled until you refresh.
I would like to position the Settings Panel. It's possible??
Thanks.
HTML, CSS & Flash Player 8 In Publish Settings
Hi
Just done lee's CSS/HTML & Flash tut and everything is working fine, tried to transplant this into my project and I've noticed that the CSS file is ignored when my publish settings are set to flash player 8.
What I mean by this is the line height is too great as soon as I switch to flash player 8 in the publish settings. I've even downloaded Lee's example and he has his publish settings to flash player 7. Turn these to flash player 8 and again the line height becomes too large.
Does anyone know why flash does this? Or is there a work around apart from lowering to flash player 7.
Thanks
Ricky55
PS
I'm using filters in my buttons so I need to export as flash player 8.
Size Of The Flash Player Settings Pannel
Hello,
I'm trying to develop a small app for my webcam, however I've noticed that, because of the size of the Flash player Settings pannel that pops up when detecting hardware, my movie has to be at least 214px large... and I only need 170px.
Is there a way to bypass this ? or a solution to reduce the settings pannel size, or something ?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Tom
Macromedia Forcing User To Update Flash Player
About 2 years ago I developed an e-learning module using flash 5. Published as Flash 5. I have not touched it since...
However, I got a call the other day from the client saying that they can not access the content and the broweser (I.E 5.5) is asking them to install flash player 7 (They already have flash player 6 installed).
Is this a macromedia thing? forcing all users to update in order to view old content as well? Has anybody witnesses something similer?
note: unfortuntley, the client is a big company with a big firewall, so updating the plater ins't so simple...
[MX04] Flash Player Version - Publish Settings?
Hi there,
Just wondering if there was a safe version flash player that will best ensure people can view the flash document without having to download a new version? I have been told that to publish them for version 5 would be best in that respect but it looks as though it's a bit constricting too.
Would appreciate people's opinions on this. Thanks.

Linux Flash Player LNX9,0,48,0 Camera Settings
The flash player sees my capture card ok, but there doesn't seem to be a way for me to tell flash which input to use on my capture card or any way to set capture format, size or palette information?
I also seem to be having trouble using the onscreen controls to activate the AVpresence instance. I'm thinking I might need to compile my swf for flash 9?
Please help...
