I was just wondering is there a way to make my flash website run smoother. If you look at the demo here:http://www.hazardforum.co.uk/testYou can see its a little jumpy. Is there anyway I can make it run alot smoother?Thanks ;)

How To Make Smoother Animations In Flash
I am noticing that some animations can get jaggedy in Flash. How do you make it smoother, is it increasing the frame rate setting for the movie or some other settings?
Smoother Loading Site.
Hey Guys.
How is everyone? I'm looking for some advice, and tips to make a site up working on run better. The site is for a friends band, the site on it's own is around 2-3 meg, not to bad for loading. But I have also built a 3 track music player, which knocks the file size right up. I think the best way to load the site, would be to have the site load, then after start loading the music player, so users can view the site without having to wait for the music. I got the idea, I just need to the know how, on how to get flash to do it. Any tips or advice anyone can give me, will be ace.

Advice To Make Smoother.
I just want to say that I know that the site isn't much to look at right now, basically put something up just to convey info for the time being untill I learn this program better. I wanted some opinions on how I could get the "transit" I have on the page to be smoother. Didn't know if there was a way that I could motion/shape tween a graphic symbol like this or not.

How To Make Text Scroll Smoother
Can anyone help me make my dynamic text box scroll smoother? My Flash document is set at 30fps and I use the 'onEnterFrame' method so surely the text should scroll smoothly?!

If I give you this text scroller download can you make it scroll smoother? Thats the challenge I havent seen one roll smoothe yet. Can you apply some code to make it scrol in small pixel amounts and speed as well? So that it rolls up or down the screen the same as movie words scrol on the TV screen?

o.k so i want to make site for a online cd store, i'm toying with the idea of making the whole thing in flash but am pretty scared...i'm a newbie.. and to build this site i'm going to need to get some knowledge fast right? i mean i'm going to have to have this sort of thing:

-navagation (duh)
-login/signup page (form)
-some sort of shopping cart system
-news, releases
-browse -catalouge
-search
-i would also like to possible have a frame up the top perhaps with nav and serach.. but who knows...

I'm Ready To Try And Make My First Flash Site
I have an idea on what I'm looking to do for a flash site. I am totally new to making a site. I've done some animations here and there I've got the basics down at least.
I'm going to make it about 6 scenes I guess pages. And some little eye candy and the works.
What I would like to ask you all were can I learn more about action scripts and what scripts work best for opening new scenes, adding button effects and effects in general.
And what is the best way to create my own flash forum and flash chat room?
I think thats it. I'll ask questions when I am stuck and need addvice I hope to get it done one day. I'm going to try my best. I'm already having a site built for me but I'm going to try and make my own for my stories and bio.

I have a book I've been using to learn Flash (visual quickstart guide). I'm trying to make a website that is made only in Flash. When I test the movie, it just loops.
I'm sure there is something simple I'm missing. How do I switch pages and make it only use the buttons to do that?
Do I put my pages on different layers? I would love to find a site or tutorial here that would explain it all to me. Everything that I find only explains movies.

What Width Should I Make My Flash Site?
I'm making a swf top and nav bar for my website that will stretch across the whole width of the site. What is a good size to make them these days? I heard that it used to be around 760 pixels but with more people having larger resolutions these days you can go higher, is this true? I am using external .swfs all on a 800x600 flash document which is the full webpage, my question is, is this a good way of making a flash website, having every webpage just one huge flash movie with flash movies built into it? I tried using frontpage to just call each movie seperate, and they were all lined up perfect to the size I had frontpage opened, but when it was published and the window was maximized, the movies just went all over the page (because I guess I dont know how to break the page into seperate areas and put the side menu bar in its little cell so it doesnt move?) So my solution to this problem was just making the webpage one big flash document, just wondering is this a good way rather then messing around with frontpage, or can somebody help me out with frontpage? I am new to flash and I am just trying to make website better then the dull plain HTML site it used to be.

I have a flash site that seems to work with a lower flash player but once you get to the main part there are a lot of problems. When I updated the flash player on this computer the site worked fine, so is there a way through html or flash that i can detect what flash player version they have and if they don't have flash player 7, make them install it, and if they don't install it my site won't appear?

I’m not a fan of ‘Flash based’ sites and the main reason for that is barely no-one does them properly. So here’s a list of 21 ways to make your Flash based site suck, so that the next time you build a Flash based site you can really hit that nail on the head.
1. A useless splash page is a requirement
If you’ve got a Flash based website and it doesn’t have a next to pointless splash page that tells us nothing it just isn’t a Flash based website to start with. Try adding an “abstract” render with lots of bend modifiers and bright stars… and set it in space… lots and lots of space.
2. The “none Flash” version of your site must contain Flash
“None Flash” is an industry standard term for “use as much Flash as you can” or “a very sucky replica that doesn’t work in any browser”. You don’t want to be doing things that aren’t industry standard do you?
3. Make your site pop-up in a fixed size window using JavaScript
This is a requirement of any sucky Flash based website and if you want to make it that little bit worse please add scroll bars.
4. Always have an animation to “introduce” us to your site
There’s nothing more effective than a poorly animated, or better yet, extremely long “introduction” to a Flash based website to turn a user on. Not only do we enjoy watching it every time we come to the site, but we love it when the skip button doesn’t work.
5. Pre-load everything at once
To make the 5-10mb pre-loading worse, please add a flashing piece of text that spells out LOADING in the middle of your template. By the way, we don’t want to know how much is being loaded, how much has been loaded OR even see a loading bar… those are just ‘flashy’ and not informative to us users at all… right?
6. If not, don’t pre-load anything
As users we don’t like pre-loaders as they ’slow us down’. Try creating a huge file size and not having a pre-loader, it makes us feel all tingly inside when we guess when the site will load.
7. Make sure that after 10 minutes of waiting, at least one more thing needs to be loaded
Make it the first thing we click on too. Make us really want it!
8. Always use a template
“Isn’t that a template?” - why yes it is. “Isn’t that used on this site, that site and that other one?” - why yes it is!
9. “Techno techno techno techno!” - make sure every piece of graphic on the site is overdone
Lines! We love lines! Why isn’t there more lines? Seriously, give us more lines or I’ll send someone round with a copy of ‘Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring’ and make you watch it 15 times in a row with no toilet breaks.
10. Make sure nothing is compressed
We will wait 20 minutes to avoid that difference in quality only a 800% zoom would show us.
11. I shall not anti-alias my text
Readable text isn’t something users want, just ask all those people without screens.
12. Use circles for buttons
Yes circles are practically pointless as buttons, but they sure are curvy.
13. Make sure everything has a roll-over
Please don’t deprive us of this wonderful entertainment. I can from the bottom of my heart say you would be bringing down the web on a whole by removing these. If your site has less than five roll-overs you just aren’t doing it right.
14. Scrap the one click standard and go for five
There’s nothing more I like than clicking, and when I click on a button but have to click five times to make it work – that really makes my day.
15. If you have forms, make sure they are the default 500kb components
Think of default components as the oompa loompa’s in “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”. You don’t want them to go without a job do you?
16. If animating, always use at least fifteen flashes
KA POW! KA BLAM! It’s just like being in a Batman movie… and we all want to be in a Batman movie.
17. Use as many transitions as you can between content
Every time I see the text float in from the right or the left it makes me want to use Microsoft PowerPoint. And no-one should think of using Microsoft PowerPoint.
18. When tracing bitmaps, always leave the original source files to increase size
Small file size? That’s just for amateurs.
19. Make sure any music tracks aren’t compressed
It adds to that loading time, which gives us time to exercise our eyelids.
20. Music should always start over again when we switch page
“Check, check, check it out”. That pause was intentional and adds to the song – yours just ruins the site and your user’s opinion of the music being played.
21. And finally… make sure there’s very little point to you building your site in Flash
Make it look just like a normal site. Really surprise that user with the 15 minute techno remix of MC Hammer’s “Can’t touch this” when they first click a link. Even better, wait for them to let their guard down and show that video of you dancing to the latest Britney Spears CD in your underwear.
Make A Little Money From A Flash Site (i.e.: AdSense) ?
I have a website fully made in flash, which has been going on for more than a year now, with some success.
I know you can put AdSense boxes in regular blogs, html sites, etc., and I guess I could do the same inserting the adsense code in the html container which loads the main .swf file.
But I've recently seen some really cool ads (don't know if they're from google or from any other company) integrated straight into flash sites or even videos, and I was wondering whether it would be possible to use them in my site.

Mouseover Resize, Smoother Preloader (Flash 8)
I've done the search thing and found a few helpful threads. Unfortunately I can't seem to get the AS to work in Flash 8, probably because it's AS1, at least that's my best guess. So I thought I'd start a new thread and hopefully get one of you guru's to help me out.
First off, I want a smooth preloader. I found this tutorial on smoother preloaders, but for some reason it doesn't work in Flash 8. I imagine that it probably uses depreciated code, but I don't know enough AS to be able to "fix" it on my own, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Second question: I recently created a start button using the glow and drop shadow filter animation tutorial from gotoandlearn.com, it looks cool and all but I want the MC that I'm using (a simple circle) to shrink when I mouse over and grow back when I mouse out, with easing. As I've said, I found a few helpful threads here on Kirupa, but either I'm just not getting it or the code doesn't work in flash 8. I don't have an FLA right now because I got frustrated and closed without saving.
So if anyone has the answers to either or both of these questions I'd really, greatly appreciate your help.
