Mcs Maximum Width
I have an mc of about 6000px width (it's a row of pictures) and flash display the animation with that mc in an ackward way. With a shorter version the swf works fine.
So can anyone tell me what are the limitations of size (max width and max height) of a mc so flash can handle it correctly?
Thx in advance.

[MX] Maximum Clip Width?
Hi,
I am trying to build a site using the navigation style more commonly known as "Barney's menu", (where the pages glide in from the side). Here's what I have so far:
http://www.neilhillman.com/barneys.htm
(The first 4 tabs work).
Source: http://www.neilhillman.com/barneys.fla
... but have reached a problem. All my pages need to be in one long horizontal clip so as to scroll along, but Flash MX doesn't seem to like clips that are more than 3x the width of the stage, it won't allow me to scroll further to edit, and I keep getting invalid positioning errors!
I have heard that the solution is to create all your pages as seperate movieclips, and then use actionscript to combine them all into one long clip, but I was hoping someone can show me how to do this?
Thanks!

Maximum Stage Width
I built a video player w/ fullscreen mode. I just upgraded my moniter to a 30" and when I tested the video player my bg_mc did not scale the total width of the screen. I then checked youtube, revver, dailymotion, ect. All had the same behavior. I tried adding 1000 pixels to the Stage width and it had no affect.
Why is the max Stage.width smaller then consumer monitor resolutions?
What is the max width for a single mc?
When is this going to be corrected?

Maximum Width Of A Shape.
I'm in the process of fixing a site and I'm running into trouble with a shape. This shape acts as a background that scrolls. When I want to make the shape bigger than 2880 W, I get an error stating "Invalid size and position."
Is 2880 the maximum width you can make a shape in flash. I thought I'd made one bigger...
Thanks in advance for the help.

Is There A Maximum Width And Height For A .swf?
I am trying to make one that is 2400 pixels wide and 1400 pixels high so that it will become a background for a website, but it seems to show up about 200 - 300 pixels short. It shows up with white strips on the left and right edges of a single screen, but it should cover a double screen set to 1280 by 1024.
Your help would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much!

Maximum Movie Width
I'm trying to create a fullscreen flash site in order to get around the maximum width limitation that flash has but alas it appears that a flash movie will still only stretch out to 2880px regardless of changing the published html to 100% width and height. Does anyone know a way of around the 2880px maximum width

Maximum Flash Canvas Width?
Is there a maximum flash canvas width? I'm doing this bkg scrolling timeline thing and all my date entries are 615 pixels wide in one movie. So each date entry is positioned in multiples of 615:
1993 - 0
1994 - 615
1995 - 1230
1996 - 1845
etc...
All was working great until my 1996 date - it doesn't show up.
What happens when you mouseover the main date nav is the bkg dates scroll either in or out, depending on which date you're hovering on.

Any Way To Override Maximum Stage Width?
I have a setup already set up in Flash where a number of images load left-to-right, based on data loaded from a plain text file. I then put the whole document into an i-frame.
The problem is the 2880 pixel limit to Flash's stage size - I sometimes have more images than will fit on the stage. Is there any way to override the maximum stage size limit?

Movie Clip -- Maximum Width?
I've created a movie clip that was 3500 pixels wide and worked fine. When I postition something past that using the properties bar to set x and y corrdinates it is there and appears in the final swf. But when I try to scroll movie clip fla past 3500 pxs it won't do so and the object is unclickable.
Obviously one can place objects beyond 3500 pxs but why won't the movie clip fla scroll there and let the object by manipulated?

Maximum Width Of Movie Clip?
So I'm having a little trouble with a project. I'm creating a portfolio that contains these very wide images that I have a little horizontal dragger for. I am having two problems with it.
Here is the file (I promise to leave this on the server as it is so that future people can also get help from this post): http://www.whosyourstudio.com/scroll/TCmoon1test.html
Problem #1: It doesn't load with the left edge of the image at the left edge of the document, as I have it set up in the flash file. I can't think of a reason for this to happen.
Problem #2: It doesn't scroll all the way across the image. It appears that the image is too wide for Flash to process. Is there such a thing? Here is the original image file: http://www.whosyourstudio.com/scroll/moon1.jpg
I have also posted the Flash file so you can poke around in it: http://www.whosyourstudio.com/scroll/TCmoon1test.fla
Sorry, I code the old way, so it's not all sitting on the frames. You will find the actionscript on the page by clicking on the main image, the little black line, and the draggable star. There is also some code on the button within the draggable star's movie clip .

Expanding Movie To Maximum Width
Hi,
I have a small animation saved as a SWF file. The video was designed with a specific width and height, but can be resized to any size, as long as it keeps the width to height ratio.
I'm embedding the video within a div that fluidly expands to span across the entire width of the page. I would like the flash video to fill the entire horizontal width, and expand vertically to keep its ratio.
Therefore, if my video has a 4:1 width:height ratio (hypothetical), and the user expands their browser to 800px in width, I would like the swf to resize itself to 800x200px within the div, pushing down any elements below it.
Is this possible?
Thanks!

Set Width Of A ComboBox Component Without Changing Width Of Arrow
Hi,
With actionscript I have put a few ComboBoxes on the stage and than tryed to change the width with:
setProperty(_root.container[ComboBoxName],_width,150);
It works, However the arrow-part in the combobox expands also. I don't want it to expand.
I want it to behave like when a put a combobox on the stage myself and adjust the width of it in the properties window.
In this case only the text-part expands... the size of the arrow doesn't change!
How can I do this?

Dynamic Background Width/static Foreground Width?
I am trying to make a site with elements that resize dynamically depending on the browser width, but have the foreground element stay the same size all the time?
The first part is easy to do. If I set the height and width of the Flash file in the HTML to 100%, when the browser is resized, the Flash will also resize.
But I can't figure out the second part.
An example of what I'm trying to do is at Rilo Kiley's website
Another example is gskinner.com
No matter what your browser size, the background scales and the foreground is always the same width and height.
I am using Flash MX 2004.

Changing Width Of Sprite Changes Text Width
G'day everyone
I am currently creating an object called MyTextField (which extends Sprite) and then I set the width of this instance to a value.
The sprite class has several TextFields within it.
The problem i am having is that when I change the width it affects the size of the text as well. Too large and the text looks stretched, too small and the opposite happens.
What I want to know is, is there a way I can set the width of MyTextField without it affecting the size of the text.
This is the code i'm using for my textfields
Code:
var label:TextField = new TextField();
label.autoSize = TextFieldAutoSize.LEFT;
label.multiline = true;
label.background = false;
label.border = false;
label.wordWrap = true;
label.embedFonts = true;
label.type = TextFieldType.DYNAMIC;
label.selectable = false;
label.antiAliasType = AntiAliasType.ADVANCED;
label.defaultTextFormat = this["format_" + label_type];
label.addChild(label);
label.htmlText = info;
and the format is here
Code:
this.format_heading = new TextFormat();
this.format_heading.font = "Verdana";
this.format_heading.color = 0x000000;
this.format_heading.size = 10;
this.format_heading.bold = false;
this.format_body = new TextFormat();
this.format_body.font = "Verdana";
this.format_body.color = 0xff0000;
this.format_body.size = 10;
this.format_body.bold = false;
Any help would be super
Cheers

Movieclip Width The Width Of The Text Within
Hi all:
I have a movieclip called mcButton which contains a dynamic text field. I have an array with several words/pieces of text and a timer object loading instances of the movieclip with the content from the array. The issue is that the width of the movieclip is a fixed width-- is there a way to make the width of the movieclip the same as the width of the text within? The code is as follows (and excuse the beginner-ness...):
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
var mcCompanyBtn:mcButton = new mcButton();
var mcWorkBtn:mcButton = new mcButton();
var mcReachBtn:mcButton = new mcButton();
var mcLoginBtn:mcButton = new mcButton();
var counter:int;
var buttonArray:Array = new Array(mcCompanyBtn, mcWorkBtn, mcReachBtn, mcLoginBtn);
var textArray:Array = new Array("Company", "Work", "Reach Us", "Client Login");
var urlArray:Array = new Array("about.php", "contact.php", "news.php", "services.php", "work.php", "index.php");
loadBtns();
function loadBtns() {
//Timer class that calls function to add buttons to stage
var loadBtnTimer:Timer = new Timer(500, buttonArray.length); // 1 second
loadBtnTimer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, addButtons);
loadBtnTimer.start();
//Timer loop that runs through buttonArray and adds elements to state
function addButtons(event:TimerEvent):void {
counter = event.target.currentCount - 1;
addChild(buttonArray[counter]);
if ( counter == 0 ) {
buttonArray[counter].x = 0;
}
else if (counter > 0) {
buttonArray[counter].x = buttonArray[counter - 1].x + buttonArray[counter].width - 60 ;
}
buttonArray[counter].btnContent.text = textArray[counter];
buttonArray[counter].btnContent.setTextFormat(format1);
}
Thanks for any help!
Preloader.width = Stage.width
Hi everyone,
I'm working on a full flash site, and i'd like to make a loaderbar scaling over the stage.width. So it starts at 0% and when everything is loaded, i want the bar to be as wide as the user's window.
Works fine, but as you can see on my example, it never really touches the right edge of the screen..
http://www.dpbc.be/fullflash
I used this code to place the bar:
Code:
loader._x = 0;
loader._y = Stage.height / 2;
loader._width = 0;
and this is my preloading code:
Code:
bytes_loaded = Math.round(this.getBytesLoaded());
bytes_total = Math.round(this.getBytesTotal());
getPercent = bytes_loaded/bytes_total;
this.loader._width = getPercent * Stage.width;
if (bytes_loaded == bytes_total) {
this.gotoAndPlay(3);
}
(on frame 2 i have a gotoAndPlay(1)).
Thank you VERY much!
But could I do it by Action Scripting?
Load External JPEG and set the _x value to 11700 ?
Any help is much appreciated.
Thank you
Find Maximum Value...s
I have 8 input texts (r1,r2...r8) and 3 dynamic texts (max1, max2 and max3). Input can accept only 1 number each and max dynamic boxes should display the maximum values (max1>max2>max3). I have, unsuccessfully, tried "Math.max".
The most logical solution seems to be the development of a set for r-values and when calculating max1 exclude the r-value behind max1 while calculating max2 etc. But how? Any other ideas?
...At the end, what if all values are equall??
Is There A Maximum Depth?
Howdy freinds.
wondering if there is a maximum depth I can use (ie: for swapDepth(amount)). Because at the moment my game has depths that run like this:
swapDepth((1000*_y) + _x)
that arranges objects so items closer to the bottom are in front and then subdivided by its _x position. so that uses max 6 digits. I wanted to introduce a 7th digit to represent master height (to distinguish between things like doormats and the people standing on them) enough backstory...
soooo when I added a 7th digit (making the depth maximum 9million) and it works fine, with one exception... i cant remove any objects any more where they used to with the 6 digit system.
So-- is depth allowed to go into the millions?
thanks all
MC Maximum Size
What are the limits to a MC's size?
I have a scrolling MC with a text field inside. the height is approx 1800px. When I get to the last 300 px or so the content is empty. Even if I manually position the MC on the stage just to see if I can view the end of the text, its blank for the last 300px.
Maximum Scaling? Help
Hi there, I wondered if I could get some help regarding formatting of my Flash website. Basically, my website doesn't have a white background, but also has a couple of colours in the background - So inotherwords, if placed on a single colour background (via html colour code) it still looks like a strange block, just like it does when naturally formatted (white background).
I know you can stretch it to fill the entire space, but I don't want to stretch the design, it looks ridiculous. So I want the site to display as large as possible - So, either fully sizes horizontally or vertically depending on the size of the viewer's monitor and web browser, and I'll have a black background - This will leave EITHER two black horizontal bars or two black vertical bars, depending on the monitor settings.
Here is a couple of images of what I mean:
Textfield Maximum ?
I have a static textfield in Flash that is used in a scrolling effect.
I have noticed that Flash has a maximum of character that it displays. After that certain amount of characters, flash just dosen't display the rest of the text. If you divide the text into different textfield, it's fine.
Of course, the solution would be to use dynamic text. No problem, no limitation of character, but I just wanted to know :
is that a known problem in Flash ? If so, does anyone know what is the maximum amount of characters for a static textfield ?
Maximum Loops
I have an xml file that has a structure like this
HTML Code:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<shows>
<show>
<title>Show 1</title>
<date>06.05</date>
<time>7</time>
<description>Filling in words to form a description for testing purpose.</description>
<subShows>
<subshow>
<title>Data entry one</title>
<minutes>2</minutes>
<link>http://www.subshow/sub_4.mp3</link>
<downloadlink>http://www.subshow/downloads/sub3.zip</downloadlink>
<size>1</size>
</subshow>
<subshow>
<title>data data entry 2</title>
<minutes>5</minutes>
<link>http://www.subshow/sub1.mp3</link>
<downloadlink>http://www.subshow/downloads/sub.zip</downloadlink>
<size>2.5</size>
</subshow>
</subShows>
</show>
You can see its structure. In order to extract the information from this file I am using 4 for loops all nested inside each other the nested ones only fire if the if statements are true.
My main concern is I have never used 4 nested loops before and I wanted advice on how it will perform under a large xml file.
Loop set upLoop 1 runs through all the <show> entries.
Loop 2 runs through all the children of <show> entries.
Loop 3 runs through all the <segment > entries.
Loop 4 runs through all the children of <segment > entries.
Is there a less process intensive way or will my hit be small and my concerns are just over blown. Any help from someone who uses extraction loops for heavy xml data would be great.
Maximum No. Of Thumbnails Is 26
Hi, thanks for looking.
I have the thumbnail scroller working beautifully, however I have over 30 images in the xml file and it will only scroll up to number 26.
I have checked, doublechecked the xml file and there are no mistakes. I've even swapped around the order and still it will only scroll up to the 26th image.
The action script is unchanged, it's copied straight from the tutorial.
Are you able to help?
Thanks.
Maximum Height For A Swf?
For some reason swfs start misbehaving after they are resized to over/around 4000px.
Text and images display fine but shapes(drawn in flash) just dont display after that height. Would love to know whats going on and how to get around it. And I dont know why it just wouldnt display shapes either, surely if its a limit in place by Adobe it would be the same for all objects.
this has nothing to do with the max height for bitmapdata as Im well aware of that.
I cant really find any information on it for some reason, I guess its not that common for swfs to be that size.
Scrollpane Maximum?
I'm trying to do a scrollpane that allows users to scroll horizontally through a bunch of pictures, but it seems like there might be a maximum as the pictures towards the end of the scrollpane are all blurry when I play the movie; however the text at the end is not blurry.
Does anyone know why this may be happening?
