Flash :: Media Component Scrubing MX 2004

MX 2004 Pro. Media Display Component
I have a video playing in a media display component. At the end of the video I want it to jump to a new scene or a movie clip that fades and reveals the site's home page. In the page, I'm calling an accordion component.

Here is my problem:

I tried using a slide-show to go from the video to the page which worked fine. Unfortunately, my accordion was non-existant in the page.

Now I'm trying to get the video to load the next scene or even a movie-clip with the site in it. But this is causing me a major headache.

Does anyone have any idea how I might accomplish this? Or maybe a link to a tutorial that could help?

Help With Customizing Media Component In MX 2004

I'm an intermediate flash user and I'm working in MX 2004 on a mac. I'm trying to customize the Media Playback component so the progress/streaming bar isn't green. I followed the instructions listed at the livedocs page for customizing media components and can see my customized component in the components inspector, and I can put it on the stage... but when I test it, it still shows up with a green progress bar.

Here are the instructions I followed:
1. go to c:program filesmacromediaflash mx 2004enconfigurationcomponentfla and save a new copy of mediacomponents.fla as media_revised.fla. open up media_revised.fla in flash.
2. customize some assets, make revisions, etc.
3. right click the component you want to use in the library and select export swc file from the context menu.
4. save the swc with a new file name. move the swc file to c:program filesmacromediaflash mx 2004enconfigurationcomponentsmedia components.
5. click reload in the components panel options menu or restart flash.
6. drag your revised component to the stage, and you should see the revised component. try testing it.

Can anyone help?

I know this sound silly, I've never really used components before and can't find the media component in flash mx 2004. I only have acces to the UI componenets, buttons etc. Does anyone know where I can find it?

Scrubing MC Timeline
hello,

I'm looking for a way to scrub through my animation (inside a mc) by a mouse that moves from left to right .. ideally without having to have to press the mouse button .... just as it is. Would there be a way hot to scrub back and forth through a timeline of one designated MC?

Does anyone know of any freeware components that simulate most of the look and functionality of the MediaPlayer component in Flash MX 2004 (un-pro)? I can cobble together various bits of it jankily myself, but I can't seem to produce anything that works quite so well or looks quite so pretty. If there's a tutorial or thread out there on building a similar tool for FMx04, would be much appreciated also. Thanks in advance.

Preloader/Media Display Help Flash MX 2004
I'm putting some video of my artwork up on display on a website I'm designing for myself (using the flash/dreamweaver combo). I've decided to showcase my work by creating (which I think is pretty common) thumbnails with a media display beside them. I have my video controls and everything working -- it's all very rough and clunky (I wish I really knew what I was doing and could take the rough edge off -- jazz it up a bit -- suggestions would be great) but anyway when I put it on the website, naturally it takes between five and 10 seconds to load the .flv into the media display (with a simple fade command). I've tried numerous times to utilize a simple preloader -- didn't work, then I downloaded a few other preloaders but could not get any of them to work either. I'm also working with slides I believe they're called -- could be that because I'm still experimenting as a newbie that I'm going about this media display thing the wrong way (maybe I shouldn't be working with slides?? but I would have no idea how else to do it and I've probably put a good 30 hours into this already - yeah, I know an experienced flash user could probalby do this with his eyes closed and his hands tied behind his back). In any case, perhaps someone with more knowledge in this area could assist me here... Attached is the .fla file. I did not attach the .flv as I figured it's probably not necessary. Thanks much! Streaming Windows Media Video / WMV In Flash MX 2004
Is anyone aware of a method where I can connect to a stream from a Windows Media server (mms://) and play a video through a Flash MX 2004 SWF?

I was originally going to construct something like this in Java but I believe that the recent demise of Microsoft's Java support would cause a lot of problems for the end user. Flash is my best bet.

If anyone could point me in the direction of a good tutorial specific to WMV Streaming and Flash, I would appreciate it. I have found a lot of resources on encoding video into a SWF and streaming MPEG but nothing specific to Microsoft formats.

HELP With Media Component
Hi all, I really appreciate everyone who will try to help me with this.

I have a video loading in a MediaPlayback component. Now, on the website I have a logo with the size of the mediaplayback player with the video inside. People can click on the picture (frame 1) and it will take them to (frame 2) where the component plays the video. Now here is the problem. *** When the video played in the component is over I would like to go back to frame 1 with the picture. I could not figure out a way to do it since it is not just an inserted video but flash component. If anyone knows how to make the component return the flash clip to frame 1 after the video in the component is over from frame 2 I would really appreciate it.

Looking for some info on FLV video formatting.
Basically I am trying to display a quick movieclip using the mediaDisplay component. it does not want to show avi, quicktime etc.

It looks like it will only display FLV's.

Does anybody know what software can output a FLV. Had a brief play in flash but does not look like i can import an avi and export it as a FLV.

Is there a site where I can download a media player that i can customize for Flash MX? I know Flash 2004 has a couple of media player components built-in already but they wont work with the previous version, or will it?

Media Component Question
Hi all,

I'm working on a project which uses the LocalConnection object to control multiple flash pieces across a page. Specifically there can be an mp3 player (for the website), a single track player (for an audio page), and there can possibly be a media player component for showing video(depending on which page the user is viewing).

Everything is working so far, so good. One problemo that I am facing, however, is that if I hit play on any of the mp3 players and a video is playing, it will pause the video player. That is what I want. The issue is that I don't know how to make the button in the mediaControl component switch back to the play button. As it stands right now it will stay as a pause button. Meaning that I have to hit it twice to get video playing again. This is not what I want.

Does anyone know the proper method or property I need to use to switch the media components button back to the "play" state? I have tried

but that seems to only work as an "on load" type functionality. In fact I use it successfully in this regard. There just doesn't seem to be a method to actionscript that button back into a "play" state.

basically set up the component and let it run playing back mp3 after mp3 .. ?

I am trying to get a Component (Media Controller) to take control of my movie. For example, if you pressed play, it would play and it would show the progress bar. Same with pause, sound and everything. However, it won't work. What do I have to do to program it?

i'm using a media playback component that calls on a MP3 track.

we can't find out a certain way to save the MP3 so it would work.
sometimes it does and sometimes it does'nt.
any ideas?

(the component calls the MP3 but plays it twice as fast)

Media Component Problem

I am skinning the media playback component in Flash MX 2004.
I have managed to reskin everything apart from the play/pause/stop button. I cannot find the graphics for it in the library.
How can I edit the play/pause/stop button? Where can I find the graphics it uses?
So far I have made a copy of the media components fla file and have edited it and resaved it as a different name, I have exported the component etc.
Everything is working fine, I just cannot find the play/pause/stop button in the library so I can edit it.
Its driving me crazy.
Any solutions, tips, or further reading would really help me out.

I'm using MX 2004 and I don't seem to have the media controller component. Was it just included in 2004 Pro version? Anyone know where I can get it or something like it?

I'm pretty new to using flash components and have a slight problem I would be extremely grateful to anyone and everyone for any help.

I'm using MX Pro 2004

This is my problem:

I have my media component, but it's content is loaded in by using the following script on a button:

The code highlighted red, as you no doubt will have guessed, updates the component every time this script is executed, with a new flv.

This all works ace. You click a new button and the component begins playing the new movie. But. If you let a movie play through to the end, it stops, then you click on another button it loads the new movie but does not automatically play. Here lies my problem.

I have spent a good deal of time searching the web and this forum. Either I am not using the correct search terms or this question hasn't been a recurrant one. Either way I apologise if this has been answered already.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi The attached file contain the media play back component from flash mx 2004 I've modified according to my interface which is supposed to be red and grey the problem I am having is that I cant edit the pause play buttons of the components(I've modified the rest according to my liking) but somehow I am not been able to eidt the roll overs and press states of the play/pause buttons.
Can anybody plz help???

Alright. Mp3s and the media playback component. I would like to make a jukebox sort of thing, I have a few urls of hosted mp3s but I can only figure out how to set up one at a time. I would also like it to display the name of the song.
Is this hard? I'm totally feeling around in the dark.

Urgent Media Component Help
I am using Flash 8 to try and place an audio online. A media controller component comes with flash 8. My audio is an MP3 file but I am not sure how to get it to work with the media controller. I desperatly need step by step instuctions or a good tutorial on how to do this function.

This is time sensitive. If anybody has input on how to do this it would be greatly appreciated.

If you use a media display component can you change the contentPath like you can with the Flv Playback Component?

I want to play some random MP3 files on my site and this is the only way I can think of doing it.

New Media Player Component
Has anyone noticed that when you add a MediaDisplay component to your movie, it adds a hefty chunk of KBs to your first frame?

I even de-selected the Linkage option from my library and moved the keyframe w/the component to the 20th frame of my timeline and the Bandwidth Profiler STILL shows 53 KBs in the 1st frame!!!

I wound up having to load external swfs w/the component embedded separately just to keep my 1st frame lite.

Whats going on here????

is the Media Component on Flash MX a time trial thing? I just used it to stream an FLV a month ago, but when i tried using it today it was gone!!! I hope I'm not sounding stupid or something (there's also a possibility that my brother re-installed Flash on our computer and i didn't know)... but I REALLY need that media component.. this time to stream MP3 on my site. Hi - I know that Flash 8 ushered in the FLV component, with easily-skinnable bits and pieces. Is it possible to get into the earlier 6/7 Media Component and customize the UI - specifically to my project, the background color? I'm having a ***** of a time finding documentation on this subject online, which ordinarily would lead me to believe that it is NOT possible...but I'm staring at an old project file from 6 months ago wherein this very thing is happening. The guy who put this together is a) a badass, and b) unreachable.

i'm working on an mp3 player.
i successfully set an XMl driven playlist that contains track names their associated online adresses (i.e. www.mysite.com/track1.mp3)

i successfully set up the playlist so that clicking on a track name launches a function, but i am having trouble composing the function to plug in the address of the track into the media playback component.

i have no trouble referring to the track address, just using the proper method to plug it into the component.

Loading SWF With Media Component

I have 3 SWF files

swf number 3 is loaded into swf number 2. Swf 3 uses a Media component to play a movie (flv file). Then swf 2 is loaded into swf 1.

The movie does not play. Someone told me if you drop the media component into your library in swf 1 and 2 it should work .... anyone know why it's not working

Media Component Sizing
Hello

If I have a video file (320 x 240) then using the media component to display this video file, do I have to go larger than the 320 x 240 of my video file? I'm asking this b/c the component displays white and then the video file centered in there so if I set the size of the component the same as my video (320 x 240) then will it shrink my video file?

if this is the case then what's the correct way of judging the size of the media coponent when displaying video

The Media Component HATES Me
in one button:

this should start the flv "home_bicycle.flv" at 2.0 seconds.. instead, it does nothing at all..

why? because the media component HATES me.

NOT Loading Mp3 In Media Component

I posted this in the components forum but got no response, so I wasn't sure I was in the right place - decided to try here.

I'm using the MediaPlayback component to play an MP3 on my site. The thing is I want the site to be streamlined for dial-up users as well, so I DON'T want the MP3 to begin loading when the flash file loads, That way dial-up users aren't bogged down being forced to download a 10MB MP3, but if they choose to play it they can. But I haven't figured out how to get it NOT to preload. Any thoughts...

Or do you think I should just use Javascript to detect their connection (or PHP cookies with a "choose your speed" on the intro page) and then have different files for dial-up and broadband.

Either way I don't want the file to automatically load until the user presses the "play" button.

Media Component - Not All That Good?

Ok I am using Flash MX 2004 to play a flv video file for a clients interview. Now, having a slight problem.

I am loading the video into a new level, using this on the button:

Now, this starts playing the interview using the media component etc, that works fine. Thing is, if I go to another section within the site I obviously want to remove this video, I don't want it to play anymore. So I use the following on the other menu buttons.

Now, this remove the interview from being seen, but the audio keeps playing!

I thought I could just stop the sound but this doesn't do anything:

What's going on? How can I completely remove this video interview? Also, if I then try and go back to the movie, it won't play - it's just blank...

Media Playback Component Issue
I have a Flash MX file that I have imported into Flash MX PRO. It has 3 scenes with a lot of ActionScript. A chat board using the Flash Communication Server components and a message board using XML, PHP and MYSQL.

My problem:

When I pull a Media Playback component onto the scene (any scene in fact) and click on the MP3 option and write in the path to the song, it only displays a wthite square with the text PLAYER on it.
I've tried the component on a new movie with the same settings and then it works!

Any ideas anyone?
