Message Box Problems Help Needed Please

Help Needed In Spooling Of Ticker Message.
I currently have a ticker developed in Flash 4 which must relay a particular message in thirty seconds. Although the timing is correct, becuase the information is spooled one character at a time it is making the script difficult to read.

Could someone help with the code that is needed to spool the information appropriate to the word length, as opposed to each letter, as I think this would make reading easier?

e.g. Current:123456789. . . New: 1(first block) 2( second block) . . .
___________Online re. . . . . . . . Online______recruiter . . .

Flash Upload "...running Slow..." Message When Not Needed
Hi guys,

In my CMS I used a multi file upload system built with AS2. Something strange is going on though. When I use it for uploading, I always get the message:

"A flash script is causing you computer to get slow! Would you like to abort it?"

But when I loot at my processor usage, nothing is going wrong. So I click on don't abord every time this message popups up. At the end the file is nicely uploaded to the server and nothing went wrong.

What could cause this message to pop up every time? And what could I do about it? Is there a way to suppress those messages?

Few details:
- In both Safari a FireFox the messages appear
- Messages appear with small (±100K) and big (±100MB) files
- System is built with Ruby on Rails and flash

Can any body help me with message box display?? Is it available in Flash. I actually want a button to display an alert when clicked on it. On clicking on the particular link, the link will be displayed in a text box using the loadVariables & once the text is displayed, I want this message box to pop up with a message which i assign to be displayed.

I am trying to create a driving style game/portfolio site and am having a bit of trouble with one part of it...

The way I want it to work is - when you drive the car into a driveway/parking lot, I want a message to pop up without the user having to click anything.

[F8] Message Box?
I have a dynamic msgbox and made it into a moviclip.

I want the msgbox to have some text i want displaying in it when the wrong object is clicked on screen, but also when the user clicks on an object (e.g. button) that has already been clicked. - that is one scenario.

The msg needs to display some warning text that hopefully i will be able to control what the msg is.

Any ideas what the actionscript code might be? Please help me. Thank you

How can you create a message/shout box with a login and password, and have a tab on it to click on to enter login and message so it can be added onto the site with a date? (I want it to be that you go on the site log in and post teh message rather than keep updating the .swf.)

I tried looking for one but none have a login form. :/

Anyone Get This Message?
When I go to save my document it says that the document has failed to save. So I go to save as and rename my document and save it as a different name and I save it, but during the save process a window comes up saying.

"Media "nobutton" has been damaged. Recomend you delete it."

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this or do something about it. My project is due tomorrow and it has failed to save 3 times. And if I click ok when the new window comes up then when you go back into it the button or MC or graphic doesn't have it's actionscript on it anymore. Thank you to anyone who helps me you are a life saver.

NaN Message Help
Hi everyone,
I'm fairly new to Flash and I apologise in advance if what about to ask is either silly or obvious (or both!)..

I want to create a simple Flash calculator but I am having problems with VERY basic numeric expressions.

At the moment (please see attached .zip file containing .swf and .fla) I just have two text boxes and a button. One text box takes a number from the user and when they press the button, it outputs that number multiplied by 2 in the second text box.

BUT no matter what I do, I ALWAYS get "NaN" as the output for the second text box. My ActionScript for the .swf is as follows:

I want a message board on my site. Is there an easy way to build one in Flash and use Action Scripts to run the backend.

I have experimented with CGI and ASP but I don't know enough to effectively control the formatting of pages returned or where the data is stord once a message is "posted".

If anyone out there has ever built one with Flash before and can give me some advice on the construction as well as how the data collected is handled I would really appreciate it.

Error Message
Hello,

This really has nothing to do with action scripts but anyhow..

I have a flash .swf embeded ina piece of HTML and it appears fine when I use Netscape. It seems to go ok with IE but when I go to close the browser I get an error message that pops up on the screen.... heres a link to what it looks like

I can only get rid of the error by doing an end task, if I click ok it just minimizes the error box.

Has anyone ever seen this before?? Any ideas??

Your tutorial is exactly what what I've been looking for for the longest time. I want to thank you for posting it and for saving me from the mental anguish that my client has inflicted upon me.

I do have one very important question to ask you, if you don't mind. I'm not sure if this is possible to manipulate, but is there a way to move "back" and "forward" within a projector file? Just like in a web browser? I mean... without hard coding it in Flash?

I have this project and it's very content heavy. The client want the user to have the ability to call upon a link anywhere within the player file (mind you.. The user clicked about 7 different areas to get to this specific destination) and then have the user hit the "back" button and it should take them back to where he/she left off... (without clicking 7 different areas.) Can this be done?

I am trying to create a message board in Flash, one that would pretty much work like a guest book. It would ideally work off a text file writing and reading to it as people visited the site and left messages.

I don't want to use a database, i know that is the common answer. I don't even know if it is possible. I have looked around to find something similar in the flash movie files but can;t seem to find anyting close. Maybe i am just looking for something which is known or called something totally different.

Any help or ideas on how to do something like this would be greatly Appreciated.

My first real venture into flash has thrown back an error message that reads 'the script in
this movie is causing flash player to run slowly. If continue it may cause

How Do I Make A Message Box?
I want to create a messagebox that has either a Yes/No option or a Ok option. I have created a movieclip called mbox that has the tite,text, and 3 buttons... yes no and ok.

depending on the parameters i pass to the function, it displays the corresponding values.

now, i want to be able to wait for the user to click on either button, so that my function can return a value.

here's my message box function:

Error Message
After some time playing an interactive movie I've created my computer shoots this message:
"A script in this movie is causing Flash Player to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort the script?"
When I click yes, all the movie goes crazy.
What have I done!????! is it dangerous for the pc?

A friend of mine wanted me to take a swing at building him a message board. Found tons of tuts on PHP board creation, and got all kinds of excited, only to ftp into his site and grab a log file and see IIS5 across the top... Now I can't seem to find ANY tuts on making one running anything in 2k. The host he's with has 2k and linux options, and I'm pretty close to telling him to switch, but just out of curiosity, any know what I could use to make a good message board in a 2k environment, or where a tut would be?

I have this code in Flash MX

Here is the error message I get:

What is the problem? There is a ; there!
