LCD Monitor Vs. CRT
I've created a few flash sites, but when they're played on a LCD monitor, only a black screen appears, but when youroll the mouse over the area, it only shows a box outlined in white. On very very few LCD monitors, you have to click on the image first, then click it again to get the imagine to work. What could be the problem? I have a CRT at home and work so I dont notice a problem. In addition, what would be the best resolution to use for people that use CRT or LCD

How To Monitor Mp3 Load?
hi everyone.

i am making a website for my band and we want mp3's of course. We have a pop-up component that selects the song and then you can press load to load the song. here is where things get confusing...

i set loadSound() to streaming by telling the second arg to be true but it doesn't play until after it's loaded for quite some time. i'm loading from my local machine and i would think that if i were streaming, it would take no time.

Also, how can i monitor the data being loaded, i mean if i wanted a guage that displayed how much was loaded? And when I press stop (mySound.stop()) i can't play it again.

is this the best way for mye to be loading mp3 files for streaming? thanks for any input!

How do I change the users monitor rez to match my flash movie? (ie, if my flash movie is 800x600 and the user is 1024x768) I work with Director and I know I can change the rez at runtime, but I dont knwo if Flash can do this?

I need help with a relatively easy code:

i have a movie which is 800x600 pixels, which i would like to be displayed in a fullscreen modus ,but only when the user has (of course)a Monitor Resolution of 800x600 too. I have written teh followinf script which doesnt work, but i guess i just need the correct syntax:

Monitor Visits?
This is, I think, a pretty straight forward question. I want to add a popup to my site (not the problem) that visitors can enter their name and email address to be notified of site additions or changes.

THEN, hopefully, I can also add a cookie that can tell if they have been there before so they don't get the popup again.

My actionscripting knowledge isn't super developed, so I'm looking for a little bit of a newbie style explaination.

SWF Progress Monitor
Hi folks,
Could someone please help me out with this script?
I'm trying to write a script that will monitor the progress of an audio SWF loade into the main movie, and then when the SWF has reached the last frame, the script will tell a movie clip to go to a particular scene.
I've tried so many different ways but nothing works.
Please help me if you can, this is getting desperate.

maybe i've been awake too many hours in a row! looking at my files online- they are not resizing and filling the monitor- and i swear i have posted other files that automatically resize and fill the screen!
doesn't flash do this? as long you you do not place the .swf within an htnl page- it will expand to to fill the various monitor settings?

Variable Monitor?
hello.

how would you create a function that constantly monitors a variable?
for example if frame one of your movie defined a variable :

variable = "no";

then you made a function that says something like:

if (variable == "yes" {
trace("variable is now "+variable);
stop();
};

then in frame, say, 30, you put:

variable = "yes";

what i want to happen is for the movie to play, then when frame 30 comes around, it would output the trace and stop.

this is a simplified version of the concept i am trying to incorporate into my project.

hi im using flash mx 2004 pro

i need to know how i would overcome the problem of the maximum size of a movie. many people use 1024*768 screen resolution but others use 800*600. how can u make a movie that fills the whole of the iexplorer window and does not require any scrolling and works for both resolutions. is der any actionscript to chek the screen size?

Iâ€™m in my last year of my degree and am considering doing a bit of freelance web developing (mainly flash but also html) alongside which ever initial jobs I manage to get when I leave. I currently work on an old 15â€ 1024*768 pixel LCDs and frankly I amazed myself I have survived so long using only it.

Hence, I am considering upgrading. Low end 20.1â€ widescreen LCDs 1680 x 1050 are starting to become affordable (dell sells one for under Â£250) and would appear to me to offer more than enough screen space to code and draw in flash at the same time or have both Photoshop and Dreamweaver open side by side without things getting too cluttered.

Is this likely to be sufficient for a part time web developer or is it really worth to splash out on a fully HD 1080i 24â€+ screen? Or am I better of investing in a smaller low-res 19â€ with better contrast brightness and response time? (Iâ€™m of the opinion that response time in not of much importance to a web developer as even flash content tends to be low frame rate).

Bandwidth Monitor
Hi !

I have Macromedia MX Sudio 2004 Dreamweaver MX, Flash MX (upgraded to Flash pro) Fireworks, etc. I am though still very much a novice with these programs.

Is there a relatively easy way to set up one of these programs Dreamweaver or Flash to monitor my bandwidth usage on my GoDaddy site and send a sutdown command to godaddy if my Bandwidth usage reaches its upper limit. Right now the usage on my site is practically non existent but in time as i build and improve, 6 mo's 1 yr. from now you never know. Just concerned that if I were to produce something that turned out to be real popular ( that would be a good thing) but if I didn't constantly check my Bandwidth usage and then saw 120% used, I'd have a heart attack on the spot.

On the other hand if this would require fairly complex scripting or codeing (something I have 0 experince with) perhaps there's some freeware, shareware, or not too expensive an app out there somewhere that I could pickup ?

Flash Is Off My Monitor.
I've just discovered that Flash is off my screen when not in maximized mode. I tried restarting Flash while holding Cntl+Shift+Alt, but it doesn't reset the prefs. Also tried resetting the workspace and RMB on the app in the Windoze Menu Bar and selecting "move".
Anyone know a fix or how to reset the Flash .ini or prefs?

Monitor Cutting Off .swf On CD
I have a Flash project that will be distributed on CD. Problem is, on some computer monitors, the top and bottom of the .exe and .swf file is cut off. Is there a way to force the project to fit the screen?

Keyboard Monitor
I have been trying to make a simple program for my daughter so that when she presses a key on the computer it jumps to a screen. i.e. press A go to scene with picture of Apple (well it might be more original than that).

I have tried all sorts with the key.getcode command and cannot get it to work. Both on the responding to a key press part and also when it jumps to a scene (Apple) I want that scene to change if another key is pressed i.e. B goes to another fantastic scene with picture of banana.

perhaps this isn't so easy after all?

C#/WPF - Monitor Switcher
There are many situations where I want to turn my monitor off without putting my system into standby. For example, at night, I keep my system running to record shows on my Media Center, so I would want my monitors to turn off immediately. Manually turning them on/off by pushing their buttons isn't a very efficient solution.

So, instead, I created an application that turns the monitor off at the push of a virtual button and turns them back on when the mouse moves. Here is how my application looks:

External Monitor (air?)
hallo folks.
i'm developing a software made up of a controller and an output screen.
i need the output screen to go fullscreen in the external monitor (or beamer) and the controller to be in the primary screen of my laptop.
the application is very cpu and fps intensive, so i need a very fast way to implement this.
the "output" has to react instantaneously to the "controller" state.

by now, i've done some test using netconnection to pass values from controller to output, using 2 different swf, but i've come to some issues related to delay and "accumulation" of states in the output swf (probably because of the different fps of the 2 swf, since the output is more cpu intensive than the controller).

i think an approach could be using shared objects. i'm trying to use red5 to manage this, but i'm finding some problems "porting" the shared object example of red5 to as3 (so i don't know if the speed of such a communication can fit my needs)

i'm not inside AIR, but i'm aware of the existence of the nativewindow class (but right now i don't now if using nativewindows has some impact on performance, nor if is possible to make a native windows to go fullscreen...)

any hint?

I have a two parter here for ya's. I have a class that just adds a clip to stage with a few text fields and variables.

Is it better to remove that clip whenever it's not visible or to just move it off stage?

And the second part, is there a way to monitor the performance of a movie? Such as ram, cpu, etc?

Monitor Problems
The problem is this:

I'm doing a presentation which will be shown on a 42" plasma screen monitor. I'm doing all the animation on a laptop, but when I test it on the 42" screen, everyones head is stretched (which is understandable). Is there anyway I can let Flash know what type of monitor I'm on so that it can correct the problem i.e. stop everyone from having blockheads.
Or...are there any programs/plugins which do this? I'll probably ask Macromedia themselves, and if I do I'll post what they say...

Dual Monitor SWF?

I am creating an app that reads from a database of song lyrics. What I want to be able to do is to display the selected song lyrics on second display on its own. I should state that I plan to compile this, most likely, using ZINC as a desktop application.

Is there anyway to feed that data into an empty movie that is displayed on the second screen?

Also does anyone know if there are any alternatives to MDM zinc?

i have that html pop up that is supposed to open screen availwidth and height. and swf inside is supposed to resize in it (exactfit). But on a friend's PC with a 15' monitor, the swf does not resize! i got that window opening and showing the top left part of the movie...I simply don't get it.. Please tell me if that is what is happening!

Here's my problem. I'm running a dualhead card on a win2000 system, but when I run a flash projector OR .swf file it only goes fullscreeen (FS) on the PRIMARY monitor. (It will display in the secondary monitor if I drag it accross when NOT is fullscreen mode, but running the movie reverts back to the Primary monitor)

I want to display my flash movies in the secondary monitor ONLY. One trick I've found is if I change my secondary monitor to primary and then FS the Flash it comes up in that monitor. Then, leaving the movie in FS if I got to the other (original primary monitor) and select it back as the primary one the flash movie stays FS in the NOW secodary monitor and runs OK. However, I'd really like to find a way to cause .swf's to run FS in the secondary monitor. Are the any commands that will do this, or does it depend on resulution settings??

Has anyone got this to work successfully???

Panels On Dual Monitor?
I'm working on dual monitor system and typically prefer to work with stage and timeline on primary monitor and all panels on secondary. But, I can not get Flash MX to leave panels on the secondary monitor. Leaving focus on Flash (go to Outlook etc) and returning brings all panels to the center of primary monitor. Saving the panel set does not work.

Ideas?

Heart Monitor Simulation

Fist let me apologize if this is the wrong area for this type of question. I am looking for a heart monitor movie that I can dynamically change based on user activity (via ActionScript). To do this, I need the rhythm to move at a constant rate, but the wave form needs to change.

I am sure flash can do this (I am using Flash 5) but I have not been able to see any examples to get a start from! Has anyone done this or even an oscilliscope simulator?

I have done a search of this site, but only turned up the cardiotraining sample. though it is well done, it does not satisfy my needs. Has anyone done anything similar?

Is that possible? What I'm talking about is graphically showing the sound variations using actionscript, like that in the top left cornet of this page, but a real one From what I've read, it seems like actionscript can only control and get the volume.

Dual Monitor Presentation
I have to make a presentation/game show in two languages to play over two seperate plasma screens.

What i'm thinking is creating two .swf files that will play full screen as popups. The interaction will be controlled via a master movie.

the interaction is pretty simple, all the user needs to be able to do is control movment to and fro between frame labels on the .swf movies from the master clip.

Only question is, how do you do this? How do you target a popup .swf files and can you control two simultaneously...also we've only got flash MX (not 2004)

or is there a better way to do it?

I know there are programs out there that allow you to use an SWF as a desktop wallpaper/background, but I have dual monitors and I was wondering if anyone knows of some software that does this and supports dual monitors (with the possibility of a different SWF for each monitor).

Heart Rate Monitor / ECG
My first real flash project is to create a heart rate monitor / ECG similar to http://www.durhamdales-pct.co.uk/Dalesflash.swf

I've searched the forum and found a few previous examples except all the links are dead. Does anyone still have an example they wouldn't mind sharing. I'd prefer the 'pulse' effect as shown above but a standard 'line' would be a start.

Any examples would be greatly appreciated.
