Movie Along A Motion Guide Using ActionScript
Is there a way to have objects move along a guide using ActionScript?

I built this flash module www.xsblast.com using standard timeline based motion tweens, but would like to use ActionScript instead. Also, is there a good easing with ActionScript tutorial out there?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Attaching A Movie With AS, To Follow A Motion Guide?
Hey all.

On my path of trying to learn a bit of flash and actionscript, im trying to develop a game.

Im going to start off with just a motion guide for now, until i get most of it sorted, and then try and move on to pathfinding for the "finished" version.

at the moment i can attach movies, give them names like "enemy1" "enemy2" and so forth during the loop, but how can i make them follow a guide, to get them moving around a map?

Any advice or links to tutorials would be a great help, because im struggeling to find any.

Duplicate Movie, Then Make It Follow A Motion Guide
im still in the process of learning all about actionscript. im using flash mx and i want to create the effect of lights animated on a rectangular motion path.
the thing is i want to do it through actionscripting bcos animating each light would take forever.
so like the lights in vegas that animate around signs.

i know that i have to create a movieclip which goes around the rectangular path. now duplicating this movieclip, having a small gap inbetween each movieclip and having it animate around the rectangle is the part which i'd like some help on.

(i cant wait to get my head around actionscript)

Im looking for some help I've done a lot of research and spent hours trying to find a way to do this so any input is appreciated.

I have drawn a shape in actionscript

Basically I have a tween on it that works fine but what I need to do is motion tween along a motion guide.

Of course I know how to achieve this through the normal way of drawing a circle through the tools box but I have to figure a way out to do this to the shape drawn in action script via the drawing api. How can I do this?

I presume I have to someway make this shape appear in my library as a symbol possibly? Hope someone has a soloution thanks a lot

In other words I want to combine a shape and motion tween, using a motion guide to direct it.

Can A Movie Clip Jump From One Guide To Another?
(I don't even know if a Guide is the right solution)

What I would like to do is have a movie clip follow a path. Then when there is a new event, move the movie clip along a DIFFERENT path.

I have no idea how to tell a movie clip, "Ok, I know you're on path A, but now I want you to jump to path B, starting at the righthand end."

My knowledge level: I know how to cause a graphic to follow a Guide path. I haven't tried getting a movie clip to follow a Guide path. I'm learning about actions and making decent progress.

Change Movie Clip Mid-guide Path
Hi:
I have a movie clip that follows a guide path. I have been trying to make it change to a different color on an event by puting in a gotoAndPlay to a different frame on the movie clip symbol's timeline.
Then I use the coordinate location of the the symbol to trigger the change of frame on the symbol's timeline. The trouble is the movie clip freezes at the coordinate location. Can anyone point me to an example that might help me figger out what I am doing wrong?

Accessing A Movie Clip On A Guide Layer
I've added a movie clip (MC_B)to the timeline of a movie clip (MC_B)that is on a guide layer. I'm having no luck getting actionscript to tell MC_B to do anything. I can add MC_B to the timeline of other MCs that aren't on guide layers, and actionscript can tell it do anything I want.

I've also tried using attachMovie(MovieClip), also with no luck.

Any ideas? I'm using Flash MX.

Drag A Movie Clip On A Guide Layer?
Im fairly new to actionscript 3.0 and i was curious, do you know if you can make a movie clip drag along a guide layer. Mainly what im trying to do is make a crosshair for a targeting system in a game. While i was in the process of doing that i wondered if you could make a movie clip that drags along a guide layer.

Motion Guide Help
Well I have just begun to understand animation but have a quick question. Is it possible to create a motion guide from another program, fireworks, freehand, and than use it in flash.

I have tried drawing a spiral in Freehand, copying it, and than pasting it into the motion guide layer in flash, but the object does not seem to follow that path. If I draw the path in Flash it works fine. Any ideas, thanks for the help.

hi all,
I made an object that I want it to move around in a cricle, and I used the motion guide to do so; however,it seemed like if I want the object to end up in the same spot on the cricle motion guide, it wouldn't let me do it!
Can someone help? I know it should be easy, but I have trouble with it! Thanks for the help!

Motion Guide Help
For something so simple I'm having real problems getting motion guides to work. It works if I use the pencil tool and hand draw the guide but this is so inacurate it's pointless. However, when I draw a line using the pentool it doesn't work! The animation is basically a ball that bounces from one side of the screen to the other so the motion guide needs to be a series of joined arcs.

Can anyone help?

Motion Guide?
I have not been able to find a guide or tutorial that answered my problem so I'm asking here. I want a waving flag to move across the screen. The problem is that I can only get it to wave by changing the flag's look frame by frame. On the timeline I have like 75 keyframes in a row just to make it wave. I don't know how to make the flag move other than redoing it and making the flag move inch by inch, frame by frame across the screen. I think this can be done with just a motion guide but I don't know exactly how.

i've read several times how to work with the motion guide but i stil don't know how it really work on the flash mx. i'm trying to make a bal bounce up and down, move (like it's comming towards you) and getting bigger. i started off by doing it with always a keyframe putting in every time i moved the bal and resized it. but there had to be a better way. the thing is i don't really know how it works could any of you guys help me out on this one pls

every time ihave something rotate in a motion tween the image disappears.... WTF!!! I cant not figure out why, but when it doesn't rotate, it does just fine in a motion tween!! help!!!

I'm having issues with motion guide.

and maybe I dont even need it. But here's what I'm wanting to do - so if you could show me in .fla that's would be wonderful.

I read about it but it's just not working.

I want to create a line (thinkness 2.5) at a lenght of 600 (width) - I want it as a smooth pen tool - with the line motion drawing across from 20 px - to 600px (width) - the effect (look) I'm going for is the line to draw out - but with natural curves - so it looks as if some on with a pen drew a line. - The project I'm working on - I want to make it look like the site is being drawn out then the color it filled in. But the line at the base is the main start to figure out how to do that.

there was this tutorial on here that i found a long time ago but now i cant find it. it was a picture of like a pen that would follow a motion guide and write out a word as it went. does anyone know how to do that? (that may have been a little vague, if it was ill try and explain it more detailed)

I would really appreciate some advice...

I have designed a flower petal falling off a branch, I want the petal to go all over the screen doing loop the loops etc. I have worked out how to do the motion guide, however I think my guide was too complicated because it just didn't work. So what I decided to do (I think this is the easiest way) is to do a few motion guides, the petal does follow them this time. However, the next problem is that when one motion guide finnishes, it loops and even though I want the petal to keep going around the screen, I want the other motion guides to finnish first before the first one starts again... I hope I haven't lost you lol. Is there anyway to like delay the motion guide for a few frames before it loops?

Anyway, I would really appreciate any help

i made a motion guide. So i have this shape that I drew follow this line that I drew (hence making it a motion guide hehe) ......... does anyone know how I can make it so that this shape leaves a permanent trail behind (so it looks like this shape is drawing a line)

I have an irregular shape made in Photoshop and I want to use it as a motion guide for a movie clip. How can I import it?
(I tried to do it as a png file in order to preserve transparency but it doesen't behave as a motion guide.)

Motion Guide + AS3
I'm designing a game in which a player rides a bike around a track. The game needs to show a "lap indicator" that displays the player's progress along an irregularly-shaped course.

I'm guessing the best way to do this will be to copy the layer that has the course outline and use that as a Motion Guide, then move the indicator along that guide? Should I use the flash.motion.Animator class to do this?

I also would really like to have the position indicator "turn" as it goes along the route, i.e. a triangle that always points in the direction of travel. I think I can do it like this:

* determine the indicator's x and y before moving it,
* moving to the next frame,
* finding the new x and y,
* then figure out which direction it moved horizontally and vertically, the ratio between the two, then convert this to a rotation angle. So if it moved to right horizontally, but didn't move vertically, that's 90 degrees; if it moved equally down and left that's 225 degrees, etc.

Or is there an easier way to do this?

Motion Guide Or Else?
Hi all, I hope you can help me out. I want to create the effect as if the window is giftwrapped with a ribbon and then this ribbon grafefully flies off the gift. Maybe doing some nice loops and flying away following a motion guide...

Not sure if a motion guide is the way to go, but if you have any tips, please let me know. Otherwise I have to animate frame by frame.

i have now made my flash ac movie when run there is a movie clip and stars burst from behind it whereever it is on the screen like a trail, but i cnt implement a motionguide! it just stops so i take it it cant be done? how else could i do it other than actionscripting a course bit by bit.?

MC To And From Motion Guide
I have a movieclip that I am revolving around a specific point (planet around a sun)

At the moment I have the planet on a circular motion guide to emulate an orbit. Is it possible to take the planet out of orbit, whisk it away to a specific point on the stage using actionscript and then have it resume its orbit after a while or will this cancel the motion tween?

If this cant be done, does anyone know of a script that will move the mc in an orbit? I am having a lot of trouble doing this, that's why I'm currently using a motion tween. A script that would do this would give me a lot more versatility.

Im doing a animation inside of a movieclip.
I am trying to animate four things with motion guides.
The three first one worked just fine but when im trying to create a motion guide for the forth layer and im am pushing on the motion guide layer it aint creating the motion guide layer. Nothing just happens.
Im using flash mx 2004.
Can i use just four 3 motion guides in the same movieclip???

Button On Motion Guide
I have a fairly simple button where on the rollover state it changes color. I put this button inside a movie clip on a motion guide (it does a simple circle). While it plays, it switches back and forth the whole time from it's regular state to it's rollover state and I have no idea why! Anyone know what's up with this?

I was moving right along almost finished with my project and now when I try to insert a motion guide, it doesn't work. Suggestions?

I already used them on other layers, but all of a sudden it won't let me insert.

HELP Motion Tween Guide (ADD DOT)
Hi ok here is my situation I’m trying to do a motion tween its basically a square I’m trying to twist like 35 degrees to the right in the box there is a dot where when I do a guide the line I draw snaps into well the box isn’t twisting the way I want so I put that dot at the corner of the box so it snaps in the corner and it will be where I want but the other side isn’t where I want it to be so how do I add another dot to the other side so I can draw another line to guide that side???

Ok I have a box a black box I’m trying to make a motion tween where it turns 25 degrees to the right so its not standing straight up but half way like this so right now the box is straight like this -- i'm trying to make it turn like this
Ok when I do the motion tween it doesn’t move like I want so I made a motion guide layer I drawled a line to snap it to the little dot on the box you know hen you make a symbol there is a dot in the middle ok so I moved the dot to the top corner to make it end up where I want with the line I draw on the motion guide but the other side is still not where I want it at the end of the tween so I want to add another one of those dots on the bottom of the box so I can draw another line on the guide layer and make it end up where I want it

How Do I make Another White Dot on the Symbol to Snap Another Line To It and Make Another Line On The Motion Guide To Direct It Where I Want It?
