i am new to the ui components so if my question is confusing i am sorry. i'm building a video player and in order to properly display the movie list i thought i could use the ui scroll pane component. the only problem is it calls for an external .swf file to be loaded in. my concern is i don't know how to set up the load movie function from an external .swf loading into the root flash file. also is there a way to attach the ui component to a movie clip?

MX Scroll Pane Component And Duplicated Movie Clips
I have a movie clip, inside of which is a movie clip instance that i am duplicating many times (currently 116). my AS that duplicates the script creates rows and columns as it should just fine, but the MX scrollpane component that i've put on the stage is not reacting to the increased size of the MC - that is, it's not seeing extra vertical content and consequently not scrolling it. i thought maybe i could fix this by initially specifying the _height of the main MC in question, but that did nothing.

do i need to dynamically attach the scroll pane component once the main MC has been satisfactorily built by the AS?

Load A Movie Clip From An External.swf Into A Scroll Pane Component
Hi Guys
Is it possible to load a movie clip from an external.swf into a scroll pane component.
Therefore 2 different swf movies. 1 for the scroll pane and 1 for the content.

I am aware that I have to give the content of the scroll pane an identifier such as ‘scrollpanecontent’ or whatever, however how will I target the scroll pane when the content is in an external .swf (if this is possible)

I tried to use the scroll pane to load a series of swf, I used a array to store the swf names use a button the move from one name to another. but when i tested the movie, it doesn't work! Instead, it 'loaded' the movie but nothing is displayed in the panel.

I'm using the Scroll Pane Componet and have a movie clip that is used in the scroll pane. The movie clip contains input fields. My problem is that after you input text and scroll the text is not masked like the rest of the movie clip. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

I have a scroll pane with a MC in it...It scrolls, but the content isn't "in" the scroll pane...it looks like it's "on top" of it...

In other words, I can see t content above & below it... when I scroll, the content goes up above it & doesn't get hidden...same with the content below...

I need it to sit "inside" the scroll pane, thus the conent should only be visible "inside" it...

How do I do this???????

Scroll Pane Component
OK, components for some reason as simple as they are supposed to be throw me for a loop. Off the Flash UI components that come with Flash MX I am trying to use the scroll pane component. I'm guessing the scroll content field in the properties inspector is where I am supposed to type a reference to a file that loads in the scroll pane. I cannot however come up with the proper syntax as I have tried many variations and come up with nothing in the scroll pane. All I am trying to do is show some text in the scroll pane. This has to be basic. Anyone that could give me a brief example would be so greatly appreciated. I have tried the help utility for the component and am stil lgetting nowhere. Thanks for any help.

I created a scroll pane component which I named imgScroll and put it on a layer on the main timeline. I created a movie clip named goldDis This movie clip has an image of gold disk placed in it.

I then tried to assign the set scroll content action to the scroll pane component so that it would display the movie clip name goldDis. I did not give the movie clip an instance name but just referred to as goldDis when I needed to add something in the action boxes. Basically the action attached to the scroll pane looks like this:

onClipEvent (load) {
imgScroll.setScrollContent("goldDis");
}

On publishing the movie I see the scroll pane as an outline with the goldDis movie clip inside it. Am I supposed to see the goldDis movie clip inside of the scroll pane when the movie is published? Is there anything I am missing in the above action?

here is what i need it to do...

clicking on either a right or left arrow will cause a row of thumbnails to scroll. Then if you click on one of the thumbnails, a larger version will open.

But I want thumbnails to continue to scroll as long as the mouse button is held down. I don't the viewer to have to click a million times to make it scroll all the way to one side

Scroll Pane Component Help Again....
ok here is the issue that I'm encountering. so I have a movie clip that is on my main time line. this movie clip, plays to a specific frame. when the time line gets to thatr specific frame. there lives my scroll pane. this scroll pane is simply pulled in directly from the component library that comes with flash. in the content path in the parameters tab I put the name of the movie clip in witch I want to be scrollable in my scroll pane component. if This scroll pane is living directly on the main time line of my movie it works fine. but when I put it in the movie clip in witch I want it to live, I see the scroll pane but not the contents of the scrollable movie clip. why would my components only work in my main time line but not in a movie clip? is there something I am doing wrong? Is there a place where I have to put a separate target path so that it works corectly. I just dont know what Im doing wrong please help.

Scroll Pane Component And Buttons
Hi there

I am using a scroll pane component, into which I am placing a movie clip with a number of image links.

the action on the image links are as follows:

on (release) {
_level0.gotoAndPlay("scene 2", 1);
}

I have also tried
_root.gotoAndPlay()
gotoAndPlay()

but when exported the trace action returns each click as "undefined"

Putting a getURL action on the same buttons works just fine, but I can't get the movie to go to another scene within the movie from within the scrollpane. Is it just me, or is this simply not possible?

Any help would be appreciated.

Scroll Bar/pane Component Eating Up Cpu
Hi guys,

I have spent the last 4 weeks with the site trying to slove the problem with the site slowing down when 2 ore more windows are open. I have tried all sorts including re-coding all the windows so that ther are no actions running that shouldn't be, removed all mc's containing onClipEvent and replace it with OnEnterFrame so that i can delete the OnEnterFrame when the action is done. The only thing i can put it down to is the scroll bar/pane's that i use in my site.
If you have a look @ my site innovativedesigns you will see that ther is a dramatic increase in cpu usage when you load the forum and ther after when you load the other windows. If i dont load the forum but load the other windows ther sis an increase but not as bad, bad still no really usable. i have add an option in the site that give the user the choice between speed and quality, this does little to solve the problem either.

#I would really appreciate any ideas or input to get this problem resolved. it's the one major problem left with the site.

Customising The Scroll Pane Component- Help
Hi , can anyone please help

I am creating a scrolling field using the scroll pane and have customised the arrows and thumb pane ( the bit in the middle that you can drag up and down to scroll)

my problem is that I dont want the thumb pane to dynamically change size according to the size of the movie clip being loaded into the component, I just want a standard little button that the user clicks and drags up and down

How can I disable this aspect of the component. Or if need be, are there any decent tutes for making my own scroller

Scroll Pane Component Customizing...?
I'm using the Scroll Pane component. By default if I want to use the scroll buttons (not the bar) then I have to click on the scroll buttons (up/down) to be able to scroll. However wat I need is to be able to scroll(up/down) simply by rolling over the the arrows rather than having to click on them.

Scroll Pane Component Is Buggy?
I'm using flash 8 and I have an SWF file that gets loaded into the Scroll Pane component in my website.

Problem is that when it loads in it doesn't always stay contained to the scroll pane window. Sometimes it overlaps and I don't know why or how to fix the problem. Seems to be some sort of loading problem because it only started to do this when it was online and not when I had tested it offline.

Any Ideas out there?

Scroll Pane/component Probs
Hi all.
I recently wrote a little survey using MX. I'm recruiting online, but i have had reports of a few viewing problems. Some people cannot see the scroll pane at all and cannot select any of the drop-down boxes and radio buttons. I know it works on a variety of computers with both IE & Firefox. Not sure why there is an issue. Figure it could be high security or old flash player??
Any ideas or suggestions how to overcome problem?

Inertia On Scroll Pane Component
hi guys,
ok, i've mucked about with this and got in all sorts of problems. Does anyone know how you can put inertia on a text pane scroll bar to make it a bit smoother? All my content sections use the component rather than a custom built scroll pane, so it would be a hassle to do that, but if anyone has a inertia-enabled scroll bar code, then that would be cool.

II have a scroll pane component with drag on, and an oversize image loading into it.
I would like to let the user know they can drag the image, so I would like to initiate a movement
of the image in the pane, when the mouse is first over the pane. Perhaps the image would shift 10 pixels up and 10 to the left.

and / or; probally or.

the image will move (scroll) as the mouse is over the pane without having to click on it to move it.

Making The BKG Transparent In A Scroll Pane Component
I'm using the scroll pane and I notice when I test the movie the pane works as expected except the background where the movie clip resides is set to gray. I don't want that. This .swf is going to be nested inside an empty MC and I'd like that background to show through. How can I make the components background transparent or just get rid of it? Newbie Scroll Pane Component Troubles
I am working on a scroller with 54 images.
I've decided to use a scroll pane component but I really don't know what I'm doing in that there is a great deal of code that has been prepackaged for me and not only do I not know how to recreate it but I have absolutely no idea where to find it or the skins to modify it, but I suppose that's for another post.. The pressing problem of the hour is this: it loops and won't function with the left and right arrow keys. I'm familiar enough with flash to put the 54 images in a movie clip containing 9 frames with 6 images on each. If I put a stop action on each frame, the scroll pane won't acknowledge any thing beyond the 1st frame and it seems pretty pointless to have a constantly moving movie in a scroll bar! I thought I took care of the properties and perameters but I'm clearly missing some thing. Unfortunately the .fla is too big due to my 54 images and I don't have stuffit on my lap top. If I can ftp it to some body that's fine..

I am using the scroll pane component in Flash MX 2004. Works good but I am trying to remove the border. I was able to remove the border but when I play the movie and I click on the scroller it comes back.

Customizing Scroll Pane Component MX 2004
Can anyone give me a heads up on how to customize the scroll pane component in MX 2004? I used to be able to go into the component folder in my library and change anything I wanted in MX. Now I see with MX 2004 that the folder doesn't move into the library after adding an instance to the stage. What have I overlooked? How can I change the appearance? I have used the ScrollPane Component and managed to theme the buttons etc. and change to colour to match the rest of my site. however I can't see how to get rid of the 'active' border. I have removed the regular border with

Loading External Swf Into Scroll Pane Component Problem

I'm trying to load an external swf into a scrollpane component. That works fine but the swf is behaving eratically when in the scroll pane. Alone, it works just fine. At first i thought it was a targeting problem withing the code in the external file but that doesnt seem to be it. Then i thought it may be problems with the slider that i am using but i havent been able to isolate it yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Scroll Pane Component Doesn't Work On Server
I have a movie which loads up a lot of other movies, pulling much of it out of xml files. Works lovely on my computer. Problem occurs when I upload the site to my server. Suddenly one of these parts, a Flash component called 'cspThumbnails' which basically loads a group of thumbnails, doesn't load the thumbnail .jpgs. The contentPath of cspThumbnails- 'mcEmptyMC2'- does load, I can see it.
I've checked the paths to the .jpgs numerous times, and have other pictures that are loading fine.

The actual code where this stuff occurs looks like this:

I'm stumped, man. Like I say, the line that defines the contentPath works, because "mcEmptyMC2" shows up-- it isn't actually empty. On my computer locally all of this works just fine. Uploaded to the server however and the thumbnail .jpgs don't show up.
Now the loadMovie command calls a path stored in '_root.aContentArray[i][1]'-- but thos paths work fine in other parts of the movie, so I'm thinking there must be something about the Flash ScrollPane component going on.

Populating A Loader Component Inside A Scroll Pane
I have a scroll pane on the stage, instance name spWords.
I have movie clip in the library whose linkage name is "aRow".
In the "aRow" movie clip. I have textfield to show the value of "term", another to show the value of "definition", a loader component called "imageHolder", and a dummy movie clip called "picHolder".

The problem is in the following for loop, imageHolder does not show anything. picHolder (which i put in as a test since imageHolder wasn't working) shows the image.

Noob: Scroll Pane Component & Text Area ?
Ok...so of course this is a noob question.
Situation: I'm trying to put together my first flash website. IM trying to make it as simple as possible though. However I want to use a scroll pane and a text area component. (they are not on the same page.) However, I don't understand how to link the scroll pane component to the data that I want it to display. I looked through some of the behaviours and didnt quite find what I needed.

PLease help.

BTW im using Flash MX 2004 Pro, if that helps. Also Im just barely getting into Action Scripts so Im not as affluent with that.

Size/Character Limitations In Scroll Pane Component?
I've set up a movie clip with a rather long list of text for the user to scroll through. The text block has 24,794 charcters in it (including spaces) and takes up a pixel dimension of 600 wide by 4610 high.

Here's a sample of the SWF, Click on the Blue Box to see the problem with the text content. Click on the red box to see it display fine with another movie clip that has photos and is much smaller. Youncan drag the content to scroll it as righ now it has the scroll bars disabled.

So the question is, what kind of limitation in Flash have I exceeded?

Long Tex List Problem With Buttons And Scroll Pane Component
I have 174 titles in a text box (one on each line). I can’t see it all on the stage unless I move the text box but at least, all of the text is there. These titles are over 174 buttons. Each button will then display its content.

My problem is that when previewed, some of the text disappears. I have read that there is a maximum height which Flash can work with…. How would you then present these buttons? I have been using this method in the rest of my movie with a scroll pane component and it works.

Does anybody have a great idea for me?

Setting TabIndex For Text Fields In A MC Loaded In A MX Scroll Pane Component
I've got a form with a bunch of text fields and I have the following script in frame one of this MC:

name_txt.tabIndex=1;
address_txt.tabIndex=2;
email_txt.tabIndex=3;

and so on.

When I test the clip by itself (as a scene) no problem. Tabs work exactly right. Try test the entire movie where now the MC is loaded inside a v1 ScrollPane, and no longer does the tabbing work. Is there a workaround so I can set focus and do the tabbing like before?
