Can you move an object in a mask layer - either dragging or by changing the x and y w/ code - in Flash 5? I can't get it to work.

How Do I Make A Moving Mask Layer?
I've looked everywhere for instructions on how to make a mask layer move during a flash movie, and I can't find a dang thing in reference!
All I want to do is basically make a scope with crosshairs move across a field where it finally settles on a target, and fires...but I cant find out how to make a mask layer that's mobile. I have 'Flash 5 for Dummies' and they have a spot in there for it, but its so small, its not understandable...
Can anyone help?

Guide Layer, And Mask Layer Problem
I have a small problem, and it might be possible i just been looking at things the wrong way.
I currently have a symbol on a guided layer, that follows a path when my movie is played. The symbol starts off small, and grows as it reaches the end of the path.
The problem i'm having is, the symbol is overlapping the outside border of my background layer. I'm trying to make the symbol look like its behind the border of my background layer.
I know this can achieved using a mask, but as the symbol is already on a guided layer..Flash won't let me apply it to a layer mask.
Is there any other way around this?

Flash Mx: Attaching Mc On Mask Layer?
howdy everyone! i'm a flash newbie and i have a quick question. is it possible to use "attachMovie" to attach MCs onto a mask layer?
What i want like to do is put an array of squares (defined as MC) on a masking layer over an image(.jpeg). i would like to then control these squares such that it shows the underlying image briefly as they move around. since i will be using many squares i prefer not to drag them all to the maskin layer and defining them each. i would like to simplify the code by using the actionscript "attachMovie", but i wasnt sure if i can attach MCs onto a masking layer.
i know this question makes no sense, but any replies are greatly appreciated. thanx in advance

Moving Background On 1st Layer Static On 2nd Layer
Hello I'm a beginner in flash, can someone please show an example code of how to have a smooth slow moving background (image), and then on top of that have a static image (that makes the border of the movie, like a picture frame) with the middle being transparent so you can see through the moving background.
Can this be done with the flash rectangle tool so I don't have to use an image for the border?
I managed to make the 1st layer have the moving picture in a loop with motion tween, but in the 2nd layer my "picture frame" does not even show when I test the movie.

Hey, I don't know if anyone here can help me, but I saw this really cool tutorial of a Flash layer mask using a picture a robot from iRobot on the internet about a month ago, but now I can't find it The tutorial was using a layer mask to simulate energy or light passing by the robot. It used a white bar passing up verticly on the photo, and a layer mask to restrict where the white bar was visible. It was a really simple, yet cool effect. If anyone has seen this turorial PLEASE let me know the URL. Thanks!

Flash Help - Mask Layer Not Working When Movie Is Exported
hey, i created a movie which works fine when played in Flash MX under Control-Play. But when i click test movie, or export it, it plays all apart from a masked layer in the middle (showing a spotlight movie).

Mask Layer Help - Very Green & Envious Of You Flash Experts

I do very basic website work on the simplest level. I am incorporating just a tiny bit of Flash into my work to jazz it up. I am very green at it.
I am struggling with the concept of a mask layer - all I want to do is display an image as a button and have the rollover button effect slide a tinted, opaque layer over the button and essentially change it's color. I know how to make that tinted image in Photoshop and simply add it as the rollover image, but I want the tint to "slide" across the image - make sense?
I want to try and duplicate the effect as shown on this website:

What I *have* done is make the button, assign the rollover effect as a movie clip, and try to add the tinted mask layer. What I end up with my attempt is a blank "image" with the mask then rolling out the tint over the image? Make sense? In other words, the full color image is missing as the tinted mask makes it's prescense shown. Can someone help me with this simple thing?

Guide Layer Under A Mask Layer
I can't seem to get a guide layer to exist under a mask layer.
I'm sure there's some workaround, or I'm just screwing up. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

I have a "trail" that I would like to appear so I want to have the mask guided so it will show the trail.

One Masked Layer And More Than One Mask Layer?
Hi all,
is there a way to get a layer masked by more than one mask layer?
I'm creating an animation where a mask will discover step-by-step the
bottom layer.
But the bottom layer is really complex so I created 5 more layer and
applyed the 'mask' property to them.
The problem is that only the first mask layer is applied on the movie,
while other mask layer are ignored.
Is there a solution to this problem?

Moving Objects From Layer To Layer
Yes I knwo this is probably a very naive question but I'm learning Flash 8 here and it says nothing in the documentation about moving an object from one to layer to another. I'm sure in Flash 5 you selected the object and then simply clicked the layer which you wanted it on. This seems to have changed and Adobe/MM have forgotten to say how you do it now.
Flash Won't Change Object To Different Layer
ok so not strictly actionscripting I guess. But anyhoo...
Has anyone encountered a problem with flash where you can't change an object's layer? try as I might I can't paste/change/copy a bitmap I have on stage to another layer. I've tried copy... then locking the layer I don't want it on. and paste with a new payer selected... and it pastes straight into the locked layer. Right clicking and selecting distribute to layers also just yeilds a empty layer with the image still on the same layer.... THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!! WHAT THE HELL???

Transparent Flash Object Layer?
hey..
i am making my wedding website and i have a vertical slide out flash menu on the left.
so when you put your mouse along the side the menu slides out..
my question is:
my .swf file is about 150px wide so when i put a picture or anything beisde it there is a 150px wide black gap where the menu slides out to.. i want to make the .swf file transparent (ie wmode. transparent) and then put a picture under it so when the menu slides out, it slides onto the picture.
is that confusing?
i haven't found a sample of it online nor do i know if it's possible, but i thought i would ask

Moving Object In Flash
Hi everyone,I'm trying to move an object acroos the screen in Flash 5 using action scipts instead of instances.
In flash 4 normally I'll two frame inside the object I want to move where in the first one I'll have this kind of script:
Set Property ("", X Position) = Getproperty ("", _x) +5
Play
and on the second frame: Go to Previous Frame
I've tried the same under Flash 5 but it doesn't work...why???

Moving Object Shooting Help- Flash MX
Hello,
I'm quite new to Flash and Actionscript but so far I've got the Tank to be moving around. I've got a movie clip called "bullet" and "flash". "bullet" is the projectile i want the tank to fire and "flash" is the flash i want to temporarily see at the end of the turret. I'll show you my code so far and ask, does anyone know how i would go about implementing the flash and how to make the bullet fire out of the end of the turret. The reason it's hard is because the tank can rotate and face any direction. There's also a bit of code at the bottom about collisions with "land".

Mask Layer?HELP
I want to do a flashlight effect and I need help... I want color like blue for the text... if my bdcolor is black then the blue will show up tho.. I just want it to show up only when thenlight is on it! Someone mentioned a masking layer... what's that? PLEEASE HELP ME!

I am making a text mask layer effect that has flashing pictures underneath.
(1) I make an image layer.
(2) I import 3 images into the image layer.
(3) The first image is in the first frame and the second
frame.
(4) The second image is in the third frame and the fouth
frame.
(5) The 3rd image is in the fifth frame and the sixth frame.
(6) I do right click on the image layer.
I check "mask".
(7) I make a text layer on top of the image layer.
(8) I type a word. it says "flash"
(9) I export it
problem- it just say "flash".
there is no masking or flashing effect underneath
the letters "flash".
What was wrong?

Mask-layer?
um ý'm sure you saw this effect a million times.. there is background image and vertical stripes constantly changing width move on the image but as they are moving the part of the image where the vertical stripe is on changes in color such as we have a black-white version of an image and the actual image. when the stripes are moving on the colored image the parts of the image where a stripe is on at the moment changes color and becomes white-black
I explained a bit complicated but I think you got what I,m trying to say right?

Hello .. first off I'm not sure if it is called Masking but heres my question..
I have see sample done in FLASH 8 where they have a layer (LAYER1) and a sub layer to that layer (SUB)

the only way that the user can see the data is if LAYER1 is over the SUB..
ok.. I'm not sure what that process is called.. but my question reguards that...
My question is.. when doing this.. I can see my results prefectly with IE.. but with FIREFOX I dont... this is when I am at a computer away from my home computer..
At home i can see the results fine with both IE and FIREFOX.
when i dosent work with firefox... I dont see what should be seen under LAYER1.. here is an example..

Hey! I cannot work out how to move several layers at once. I need to lengthen one particular frame on a layer to stretch it out, but this means moving all the layers and frames after so the movie looks the same. Is there an easy way to this?

Moving A Layer Up
Is it possible, in flash, to tell it to move a layer up. What I want is to have several windows, and when you click on one, it gets on top. It would look like Windows... how can I do that? Kind of a "bring to front"...

Moving A Whole Layer
Hello,
I have this kind of problem: _level0 loads level1, which loads level2.
Now, since level2's swf stage is little, and I have no time to load it into a mc and rewrite a big bunch of lines, I thought I could nudge the whole layer a couple pixels (say 100) to the right, and same amount towards the bottom.
I tried to put in the layer2's swf itself thus: this._x += 100; or _root._x += 100; or _level2._x += 100.
But none of these seems to work. Any help?

SetProperty Of An MC On A Mask Layer?
OK, I've figured out that you can't drag masks in Flash 5 without some workarounds, but can you change the _x position of an MC that's on a mask layer using SetProperty or something? If there is an easy way to do this it would help me out tremendously and save me from restructuring my entire movie.
Text Box And A Mask Layer

I have a problem with a text box and a mask layer.
I draw in Layer1 a filled rectangle.
In Layer2 a make a text box with text in it.
Now I make the Layer1 to my MASK layer.
Problem: If the text box in Layer2 is a STATIC TEXT (text properties) than everything works fine, but if the text box in Layer2 is a DYNAMIC TEXT (text properties) than I see nothing!!!
Question: How can I place a DYNAMIC TEXT BOX in Layer2?????

Animating Mask Layer
I am using Flash MX/MAC on my home computer and Flash 5 on my work computer. I'm still in the learning process. Right now I'm trying to set up a Drop down navigation that has a main category such as (CUISINES)and when you rollover and click you get subcategories that drop down below that and then you can click on the subs to bring up other pages. I've gotten as far as setting up a mask layer, etc. but then I get stuck and can't get beyond that. Any help would be appreciated........

ok folks, i am trying to mask a layer with a bunch of symbols on it, in fact, its all symbols, but in my .swf, the symbols don't show up under the layer mask, all i see is the background of the layer with all the symbols on it, but no symbols. whats the deal? also, i did do a paint fill inside the outline of my layer mask, but the symbols don't show up. can you use a mask to show only the part of the symbol(s) that you want to show. whats my problem.
Mask Layer Delema
I am running FLASH MX and I have a problem. I have a presentation that has 5 scenes. In the last scene I use a mask layer with 5 other layers under it. Now when I play the scene in the edit window by hitting enter on my keyboard it plays fine and I get the desired effect of the layers. BUT, when I publish the presentation or test the scene none of the masked layers show up. If some one could assist I would be gratefull.

ok, i have two layers, one is a mask layer and the other is a layer with symbols. the layer with the symbols has a black background and an assortment of symbols on it. the mask layer is mask for this layer, but when i run the swf, the only thing that shows up under the mask is the black background, but none of the symbols. whats the problem. do i need the symbols on a seperate layer and then have the mask apply to both layers. is it possible to have one layer mask apply to two different layers?

i have an intro movie..
a graphic in a layer, in white background..
i reveal this graphic gradually with white rectangles moving on it..
when it is all revealed, i have made an shinning fx on the graphic with a sparkle on its corner using a mask layer.. but i have duplicated the graphic in order to make it a symbol(graphic) cause the fx doesn't work if it is not a symbol..
BUT!.. although the animation plays correct in flash, when i test or export the movie, the animation which includes the mask layer and the masked layer does not play.. everything else plays correctly..
what am i doing wrong with the mask? is it the graphic that i converted to a symbol? do some layers need to be locked (although i tried this..)? or is it something else?
