Music Quality And Sync
Okay I'm pretty darn new at flash and I'm finishing up my first real movie. It features graphics that appear and tween in coordination with a song. When I watch the movie on the stage, everything runs peachy keen. When I publish it, however, the music and visuals no longer sync up unless I set the music to 'stream', but that gives it terrible quality. So my question is:
How do I get the movie to play properly like it does when set on 'stream', but with the quality associated with setting it to 'start' and 'stop'?
At first I thought it was because the graphics weren't loading fast enough, but even after I made a preloader it still doesn't work. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated since I haven't been able to find my answer anywhere else. I'm using MX, btw.

Sync Stream = Poor Sound Quality
I am creating Flash animation for a client which involves a minute-long spoken word soundtrack (mp3) and about 41 jpegs which fade in, stay onscreen for about a second and then fade out. To keep the soundtrack synced with the sound I set the spoken word soundtrack sync to "Stream." On playback, I immediately noticed that the sound quality sounded like it was being played through a tin can with a slight echo effect. On another message board, I was advised to add a duplicate of the soundtrack on another layer with the audio replaced with silence and set the silent mp3 to sync/stream and set the sync of the spoken word soundtrack to "Start." This seemed to work but I was wondering if this is the only or best way to solve the poor sound quality Sync/Stream causes?
Is there a better, simpler way to solve the Sync/Stream sound quality problem?
How Can I A Make A Sound Sync To Animation Regardless Of Quality Or Computer Speed ?
Hi,
I´m having trouble making the sound sync to animation in different quality levels in Flash. If I use quality = "LOW" the animation is ahead the sound clip if I use "MEDIUM" quality the sound syncs if I´m using my 1 Ghz computer however its not syncing if I use my 450 Ghz computer.
How can I a make a sound sync to animation regardless of quality or computer speed ?
Thank you.

Music Sync
hey all, i'm an extreme newb to flash and you guys have probably got this question before

the music is fine when i play it from flashplayer on my desktop.
any help would be appreciated.
Music Sync
i have made many flashes so far, but all of them have the music going off track and outta sync with the graphics. someone told me there is a way with actionscript or something to fix this problem and make the music and graphics go just like when u test your movie, instead of slowing down on a website. can anybody help me out? i'd be forever indebted
Sync Music
I desperatly need help with something. I have made a shot movie (Not finished yet) and i added music to sycronize with the changing of the scenes.. I have about more then 10 scenes so far and i have the audio on event.. When i preview it, the music its pefrectly syncronized.. But then i wanted to upload it on the internet, and when i did, the music was off by 5 seconds, i have no clue why. Then i learned the "Streaming" thing for music, tried it, always stops where the frame ends.. have no clue what to do.. please help..
Sync Music
I have a little animation that I want to sync to a beat...how can this be achieved where its more accurate than just importing the music on a layer and inserting the animation at every beat.
Is there a way to play when a certain tone is hit ?
Or is there a better way to "think" of this.
Thanks

I'm trying to get the visuals in an animation I'm doing to display in sync with a music track. If I play the animation in the design view it works fine, but once I export it, everything gets out of sync. Does anyone know why this might be? Thanks.
Trouble With Music Sync
I have an intro posted at http://www.nathan-davis.com/intro8.html
I orignally put this together using swish, if that helps in.
The problem that I am having is that the the intro seems to be off sync depending on the browser or flash player being used.
How do I sync the music across browsers? or is this possible?
Lyrics And Music Sync
Hi!
I want to create some sort of a karaoke file... How can I make a synchronization between the music and the lyrics, so it will look the same on different computers?
Thanks in advance!
Music Sync With Intro
My website starts with an intro that plays automatically and has music in the background. On the 1st frame of this intro, I loaded an external swf (music1.swf) that contains the music. How can I tell the intro not to start until the music is ready to play. I would like the intro and the music to start at the same time. Sometimes the music doesn't start until the 100th frame.
Please give me some ideas or tips.
Thanks,

Hi,
I am trying to syncronize a shoe, tapping to a piece of music that is of unknown BPM(70 to 100). I cannot seem to set it just right, so it noticably slips out of sync after about 15 seconds.
my present method:
Create a movie clip, that is a shoe, tapping once every 100 frames and place in layer1
add music to layer2
{ Guess a BPM(say 83), so 60/83=0.7228
Set framerate of movie to 72.28 FPS(0.7228*100)
Play movie and pray }
Is there some kind of actionscript code, that could detect when the music breaks a certain threshold causes the shoe to tap.
This is especially important, because the framerate is ideally supposed to be around 25 FPS.

Another thing, in some animations if stop the flash, the sound (music) stops aswell. But in other animations, it don't. Can someone tell me what they are doing then?
Hope you understand my question

Music Sync With Animation
ok so i made this really long picture/text animation (~700 frames), the biggest i've ever made and the music i cut for it is fast paced. when i checked it in the flash player the music played perfectly in sync with all the animation that was going on on the screen. when i published it however to put up on my website the music is too fast sometimes and goes ahead of the animation. sometimes it keeps up though, after reloading flash file about 4 times. i tried exporting the swf without "compressing the movie", i tried lowering the sound quality for a smaller file, i tried leaving the mp3 file as is so it wouldn't have to do any compression processing while its playing (i dont know if that actually happens, just trying random things)...
anyways, my question is how would i export the movie so that the sound would always be in sync with the video?? the website is here ... a pop-up window should come up with the flash animation. and lemme know what u guys think of this vid. thx a bunch
Sync Music To Timeline
I have a music track that I want to sync with some animation, all within one movie clip. Is there a way to scrub the play head back and forth so that I can place key frames in sync with the beat of the music track?
I can scrub the play head via the mouse, but when I do the music dosen't initialize or execute.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Music Sync Question...
Old or anyone have you seen any articles that discuss why sound would not be syncronized on other machines but the machine it was built on the sound and animation are syncd fine.
Now I know that all machine play different and I understand that, but I know I have read somewhere where you can force them to play together.
Now I did a preload of the whole movie, audio and animation, so it should play fine. But i'ts obvious processor speeds are effecting the outcome.
A work around?

Music/Animatin Sync Problems...
okay well... I'm making a Flash intro right?... and I need the animation to be exactly in sync with the music.... Now I have a problem... Doing the syncing based on the timeline gives me different results than syncing it off the .swf which gives me differnt results when i sync it off of th published file... which gives me different results when I put it online...
What can I do to make the music and animation constant so that I can sync it up
Music To Sync With Flash Movie.....
whenever i open up my swf in the flash player, even if i make the slightest move of the player with the cursor, the whole movie and music do not sync together anymore, everything is off. i know that if i choose the streaming option for the audio, then it will sync even if i move the player around, but since the intro(movie) takes place over several scenes, how do i let it stream through every scene without stoping?, unless theres another way to do this syncing.
Frames Falling Out Of Sync With Music....
(You'll have to forgive me for the problem that I am about to dump into this thread... Thanks for any help any of you can offer)
So, I made this flash movie.
http://www.nobueno.com/flashes/GAMINCREDITS.html
And I made everything sync up with the song, and on my computer, whenever I'd compile the animation from Flash, you'd see it run as good as gold.
And then I uploaded it to the site. And suddenly, I am unable to make those pokey frames maintain a speed to keep up with the music.
I have the framerate set to 20 FPS, and I have a gag preloader which just implies "THis movie is 400 KB, so wait before you click the go button. But regardless, I waited more than long enough, and watched the movie through multiple times. This isn't a preloading issue, as I see it...
To give you a clearer picture of my complaint, I'm going to give you an explanation of the sync problem:
Come the second to last scene in the the movie, where the radical song hits the excellent pinnacle of the wailing guitar solo, Megaman and Link will explode right on top of the highest notes, just before cutting into the radical end chorus lines. And then for each singing of the chorus line, someone else will come into the frame.
BTW: Everyone should know this song, (And by that I mean: "Everybody over the age of sixteen") so you might understand better how it should sync up. But imagine my woe when the finished product suddenly no longer syncs up correctly with the music.
But then again... This might be all in my head! It might work fine! It's just my computer doing it slow outside of flash. But I have no way of really knowing.
Has anyone else had problems similar to this?
Music Out Of Sync In Kiddie DJ Game
I made this mixing game for kids: http://zrreintjes.fatcow.com/flash/game.html
(Hit the boat and it starts) It's based on a piano track which loops 7 times. Meanwhile you add instruments by dragging the icons onto the boat. But it won't play in sync, even though the tracks are millisecond-tailored to fit the frames exactly. The timeline is subdivided into eight parts per 1 piano-loop, think of them as 8 bars, meant so shorter sounds can be added on the fly, instead of them only joining in at the end of each piano-loop (16 sec each). BUT at the end of each of the 7 piano-loops, the sound stops for a split second. Maybe due to the length of the script checking which intruments are loaded (example below). I haven't tried yet to add the other sounds on the fly as this would only make the 'hitches' more frequent. At the end of the game there's a demo so you can hear what it could sound like (if it worked properly). Sounds cool, huh? The game doesn't. It should be simple, and I suspect the whole thing will have to be built from scratch. The question is how. Anybody got any bright ideas, or maybe an example to get me going?

Can't Preload And Sync Animation And Music
Hello,
This is what I have:
1. A preloader in frame 1 which loads the animation and background music (dynamic mp3), all located in frame 2 (frame label name is "intro")
This is what I would like to do:
1. Play the animation and background music together (dynamic mp3) once the preloading is complete.
My problem is this:
1. My animation starts playing before the dynamic mp3 is loaded.
Question:
How can I get the animation and the dynamic mp3 to play at the same time? Or how can I make sure the dynamic mp3 is preloaded before the animation starts playing?
Note:
1. Currently the preloader is in the 1st frame of my movie.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
loading = _parent.getBytesLoaded();
total = _parent.getBytesTotal();
percent -= (percent-((loading/total)*100))*.25;
per = int(percent);
percentage = per+"%";
loadBar._width = per;
if (percent>99) {
_parent.gotoAndPlay("intro");
}
}
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. My dynamic mp3 movie clip is in the 2nd frame. The frame is called "intro" and the code below is on the movieclip called "bkgmusic".
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
onClipEvent (load) {
firstSound=new Sound();
firstSound.loadSound("music.mp3", true);
playing=true;
firstSound.onSoundComplete = function() {
this.loadSound("music.mp3", true);
};
}

Thanks.

Intro Music Wont Sync W/animation In Preview Mode...
hello,
I just finished my intro, i have a song that plays on Event in the first frame...anyways, when i press PLAY and preview the intro in flash program itself(on canvas), the song goes directly well with the pace of the animations, however, when i do a publish preview in internet explorer, the song and animations are slightly off with each other. it seems that the animations are faster and the song slowed down for some reason, so now everthing is off pace.
any help???
The Music Quality Is Messed Up.
I published a flash video with a song in the background, but It sounds weird during the actually swf file playing. When I am editing the fla file, during the playback it sounds fine, and then sounds bad when I test the movie. What's wrong???
Here is the sound file.

Default Low Quality And Streaming Music
Default low quality and streaming music
Hi these might seem like a silly question.
1) I have a swf import and it always opens up in low quality. To make it high I need to go to the control bar and change it.
How do I make it what it all ways opens up in High Quality mode?
2) I have an import swf file in to one sene the file is a music player and starts to play on opening. When I move to the next scene the music still continues to play, but when I return to the previous scene the audio or (swf) starts up again from the beginning.
How do I make it that the audio (swf) is continually play from sene to scene.
If anyone can hep I would really appreciate it
Many Thanks

Background Music? Event, Stream, Quality Etc.
hi guys,
I've created a "music interface" that has three buttons on it that let the user pick which background music they want to hear. Everything works great but I'm worried that the size of the flash movie is going to be way to big.
I've seen these sorts of interface's on alot of sites. How are they doing it?
Are the audio files set to "event" or "stream"? Are they in completely seperate flash movies that have to load on the page via "loadMovie" or are they part of the "background"?
The audio I'm hearing on other people's websites sounds great but, I can't understand how? Do they not have to compress it? I've got a 2 second wave that I've tried compressing and I can only get it down to 90kb! (It sounds like crap too!)
Any tips and tricks or a reference to a related tutorial would be greatly, greatly appreciated!!!

Making A Music Video -- Audio-video Sync?
Apparently, the sound file must be set to stream to assure synchronization.
I also read this somewhere:
Note that it's critical to add a preloader to allow the music file to properly stream down to the player before playback begins. With the sound file set to Stream, the animation and song may be out of step with each other if this step is not taken.
What does this mean? If the song it's set to stream it just isnt loaded in the preloader -- how do I make it load?
One more question, what is the optimal framerate for a music video? 30?
EITHER: Volume Control On Sync Streaming Problem OR Loading External MP3 Not In Sync
Hi - I'm having a bit of a nightmare at the moment and would if you could pass any advice on the following, as I have been stuck on this for sometime.
As part of a menu screen, I have a background movie which involves a series of animations etc. This movie plays in sync with the music. This all works fine and is quite effective.
However, it has come to my attention that some of the users sometimes wanted to adjust the volume or mute it altogether. I have done many examples of this before previously, but became stuck when I realised for the music, all I did was import the MP3, and then dragged it right onto the timeline. From this, there is no variable/instance/linkage created to control the volume using setVolume. I tried to give a linkage name but was not affecting the main sync streamed music on the timeline.
SO following this, I decided at the beginning of the preloader to load the MP3 externally and play it as a stream, however this does not sync with the movie and falls out of time with it.
So all I need is a push to where I should go with this one.
All I want is for a MP3 to play in sync with the movie and I can adjust the volume of it also via actionscript during the movie.
- Is there a command I can use to sync the streaming external MP3?
- Can I adjust the volume of the initial sync stream via the timeline
Any ideas on this would be extremely helpful.
Thank you in advance.

Re-sync Out Of Sync Live Streams
Hi Guys,
I'm testing an application I've created. It's basically a 2-way A/V chat, with a text chat application on there as well.
Each user publishes a live stream, which is recorded on the server and then resent back down to the other user.
I've been testing it locally and everything is fine, so I signed up to Influxis on their Nitrous plan to give it a test run over the Internet.
Each stream is publishing a 32Kbps video + 8Kbps audio stream. Each user has a fast broadband connection, with around a 140 ping to the server.
Over time, around 10 minutes or so, the live streams get quite far out of sync. It can take over 20 seconds for the stream to reach the other person, making a "live" chat quite useless.
If I stop and start the streams again, it brings everything back into line, so I'm considering this as a potential resolution.
I'd really like to know why this sort of thing occurs, how I can minimise it, and how to recover from it when it does happen.
Any help would be appreciated!
Image Quality Lost, Exported At 100% JPEG Quality
I am working on a Flash website for a design group to display their work. These designs needed to be scaled down to fit the format of the website and many of these designs have body copy with small text. In the FLA file they look ok, but when I export the SWF, the text looks really bad.I know JPEG compression isn't very good for text but even when I export at 100% JPEG quality it still ends up looking different. The text looks very "sparkly" with the thins of the letters have been lost. The original assets that they gave me were all in one photoshop file at 150dpi with one design per layer and some of the text were just slightly pixelated if you zoom in (all text were rasterized and flattened into the designs). Some of the same images supposedly from that file had been used on their previous site with no problem. On some of the images in the PSD I can see that some of the thin strokes in the letters had been lost a little from scaling the designs down. This has been really frustrating and I can't think of how to rememdy this problem. Anyone have any suggestions?
-Sorry I did not realize that someone had already asked the smae type of question. I am trying the suggestions from the other thread.
<param Name=quality Value=low> Plays High Quality Flash
I want to adjust some flash content on my site depending on user rights.
The systems shows a slide show with swf/images, if the user is logged in he will also see a list of thumbnails with all flashes that is going to appear in the sideshow. This list is contained within XHTML markup and has nothing to do with the slide show other than containing the individual slides.
It would be nice if I could set the quality for the swf's in the thumbnails to low since 10-20 high res flashes tend to use a lot of CPU. Using <param name=quality value=low /> to achieve this has so fare granted no success.
Things I've tried so far are:
1. Setting <param name="quality" value="low" /> for the individual flashes in the thumbnail list. The flashes are still displayed in high res. Tried using " ' and no hyphens.
2. Sending the flash var _quality=low through the src of the thumbnail list elements. <param name="movie" value="/src/flash/movie.swf?_quality=low" /> with and without hyphens.
3. Googling quality settings for flash which all say to use <param name="quality" value="low" />
Things to point out:
1. I have no control over the swf. These come from all sort of people so I need to be able to adjust the quality via the web page.
2. I've tried different ways of writing the quality strings. value='low' value="low" value=low and so on.
3. The quality settings change if i right click and select quality -> low but they always start at high.
4. The source code writes what I expect it to, the flash simply ignores the values I send it.
5. I'm using a windows based machine with Fire Fox 2 and CS2, the site uses XHTML and my flash player is 9,0,124,0

Low Quality Movie With High Quality Files?
hello again...well in the meantime the only way i managed to keep my pixel fonts crisp is by putting the movie quality to low ...however...i have some graphics in it that really won't show with low quality. is there any way i can have the movie at low quality yet be able to show certain graphics in high quality? perhaps by importing them in a certain format, or can i apply a property to them or someting??? or is it all or nothing?
i would appreciate any suggestion!
TY!
[CS3] Lip Sync Out Of Sync With Stage
I have a mouth that I'm animating with the approach detailed in this tute:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uh3jhbCPbw
ie. it's a Graphic symbol within a Graphic symbol.
I've noticed that my mouth animation keyframes on the mouth symbol don't always match the same frame on the stage. For example, I set a keyframe at frame 326 in the symbol, but back on the stage I see that change happen at frame 330.
All the other frames leading up to that are in sync, and all after it are out by the four frames. What did I do?
Low Quality Mc In High Quality Movie
the thing is....
i have my movie which is in high quality then i want one movieclip within this movie to be low quality, so i gave it this action:
onClipEvent (load) {
_quality=low;
}
this didnt work and the whole thing is still in high quality.
i'd appreciate anyone telling me what i'm doing wrong!

High Quality To Low Quality Question
I have a loader taking up frames 1 - 3 that I want to remain as high quality and then from there on in frames 4 - 19 I want as low quality.
I have added on frame 1
_quality=high
and then on frame 4
_quality=low
But this does not seem to work - it seems to always be low quality throughout.
Where am I going wrong? - Any help would be so so so so welcome
Thanks in advance

How To Change Buttons On Music Player Depending On Whether Music Is Playing Or Stoppe
When my music is playing, I want my play button to be blackened in. When the music is stopped, I want my stop button to be blackened but my play button to go back to it's original state.
Right now, when my cursor is over the button, it will change the rollover state. That's easy to do.
How can this be accomplished...do i need multiple layers?
