Must STREAM But Terrible Quality.

I have to stream because when I set it to event, it's fully out of synch. And no, the animation doesn't stop anywhere.

I increased it to 160, Best. Nothing.
Imported MP3 quality, nothing.

I'm thinking I could increase the frame rate of the animation so it catches up to the music, but that'll have me in bucketloads of work.

Help?

[CS3] Published Animation Is Of Terrible Quality
Hey guys, I am a new Flash developer that is running into some issues with one of my animations. I recently learned Flash because my employer wanted me to add some flair to his website, and I have fallen in love with it since then.

The problem I am having at the moment is that the animation I have created, when published as a .swf file, looks absolutely terrible. Even when I test the movie within Flash it looks awful. However, when it is played raw on the stage all of the components are smooth and they flow just perfectly. Does anyone know why this would happen? The animation itself can be found on http://www.demarctech.com below the "Specials" button.

Thanks

Image Import Terrible Quality
Hi
Im trying to create a website using flash and have designed all my buttons and layout etc in photoshop, my problem is that when i import all my assests into flash and place them on the stage the quality is nothing like the original file. Is there a solution to this problem? I'm saving the images as .PNG to save any transparency. I have in the past just imported each asset as a seperate .PSD and kept the quality but surely this isn't a very good practise as .PSD files are usually a hell of a lot larger than normal image files.

Sound - Event Vs. Stream (stream Quality Problem)
Hey Guys,

I've got a flash piece with various MP3's that I have playing throughout. When I set it to stream within Flash, it sounds great. However when I publish the SWF and play it solely in the Flash viewer, the audio is significantly worse. If I go back into Flash and set the audio type to "event", it sounds great again. The problem is I need to keep the audio streaming.

Any suggestions on how to do this?

Thanks Much.

Voiceover Stream Quality Is Horrible
I am streaming a voiceover with corresponding movieclips and am getting really bad quality output. I've tried various compression techniques, to no avail.

Anyone use streamed sounds and have some hints on better quality?

Oh, I'm using Flash 5 on a Mac.

As always, thanks in advance!

FLV Live Stream Quality Problem
hi,
can anyone tell me that how can i set the Quality of my live flv movie. I am publishing a movie to media server in a local network, So i have no limitations of bandwidth.
Live video can be seen easily, But when i increase the WIDTH and HEIGHT of receiving video file (or publishing video file) then Quality is decreased at both sides.

Please tell how can i set quality from for streaming video BEFORE broadcasting or publishing it from Flash.
I am using Flash8(Action Script2)

best regards,

FLV Record Stream Varying Quality?
I am wondering how you would create an app which streams varying quality recorded FLVs, based on user input or bandwidth. Is it possible to take a single FLV source and stream it to clients at varying quality(resolution, framerate, etc)? Or must I encode a different video for each quality setting?

Controlling Video Stream Quality
We've installed FMS2 and posted a high quality video. Everything looks great on high speed connections, but lower bandwidth connections have really chopping, stop and start video quality. How can we control the quality of the outgoing video stream? I thought that FMS would control this as part of the streaming process?

Need Better Quality Sound For Stream Synch
I notice when I use the stream synch sound setting (versus event setting) I lose quality. I need to use the stream setting because I have added stop play rewind buttons. Anyone know how I can use the event setting and still get the stop play rewind buttons to work, or else use stream setting with the stop play rewind buttons and still preserve the event-quality sound. Thanks.

Background Music? Event, Stream, Quality Etc.
hi guys,

I've created a "music interface" that has three buttons on it that let the user pick which background music they want to hear. Everything works great but I'm worried that the size of the flash movie is going to be way to big.

I've seen these sorts of interface's on alot of sites. How are they doing it?

Are the audio files set to "event" or "stream"? Are they in completely seperate flash movies that have to load on the page via "loadMovie" or are they part of the "background"?

The audio I'm hearing on other people's websites sounds great but, I can't understand how? Do they not have to compress it? I've got a 2 second wave that I've tried compressing and I can only get it down to 90kb! (It sounds like crap too!)

Any tips and tricks or a reference to a related tutorial would be greatly, greatly appreciated!!!

Best Way To Stream Audio In Swf And Keep High Quality Sound?
When I play music on a site, what I do is have the audio play in it's own swf and import that swf into the main movie. If it's a long song I extend the timeline as far as the song ends. My question is, how can I stream the song without losing any quality and without losing it's quick loading time? What I used to do is select "stream" under sync, but the quality of the song diminishes greatly and if I select event or start under sync, the quality remains high but the loading time becomes long.

Big Video With High Quality And A Good Stream

Sync Stream = Poor Sound Quality
I am creating Flash animation for a client which involves a minute-long spoken word soundtrack (mp3) and about 41 jpegs which fade in, stay onscreen for about a second and then fade out. To keep the soundtrack synced with the sound I set the spoken word soundtrack sync to "Stream." On playback, I immediately noticed that the sound quality sounded like it was being played through a tin can with a slight echo effect. On another message board, I was advised to add a duplicate of the soundtrack on another layer with the audio replaced with silence and set the silent mp3 to sync/stream and set the sync of the spoken word soundtrack to "Start." This seemed to work but I was wondering if this is the only or best way to solve the poor sound quality Sync/Stream causes?

Is there a better, simpler way to solve the Sync/Stream sound quality problem?

Terrible Lag On The Mac
Has anyone had any problems running 6 on a Mac with OS 9.2?
There is a terrible delay on everything I do in 6. Sometimes it takes up to 15 seconds to move an object, delay on menu dropdowns, and more.
I have my min memory set to 128 and my max set to 300. I have no other programs running, and the flash movie I am working on is very small so far.
What should I do?????
Thanks in advance!

Terrible Code
I have got this function working but it's simply terrible coding - mainly because it's very inflexible.

Code:
function orderIt(mID1,mID2,mID3,mID4) {
var x = 132;
var y = 200;

setProperty(mID1, _x, x);
setProperty(mID2, _x, x);
setProperty(mID3, _x, x);
setProperty(mID4, _x, x);

setProperty(mID1, _y, y);
setProperty(mID2, _y, y+20);
setProperty(mID3, _y, y+40);
setProperty(mID4, _y, y+60);
}
Is there any other way I can achieve the same but keep it more flexible (i.e. I sometimes need to put in more than 4 movie IDs in one call.)

Thanks for your input!

Terrible Audio In Flv's?
Hi All

Ive used Sorenson Squeeze to convert a 29meg .mov into a 25 meg .flv

Im using the media playback componant in mx 2004 to load in the .flv

When i export to a swf the media componant opens the video and it plays ok but the audio is terrible, all digitzed and distorted.

Now i know its not the flv file. I embeded the same flv and exported to swf and it plays fine, the audio is fine?

Is there a know bug? Im hoping to use the media componants to create a cd-rom with many video files.

cheers!

Resising An Mc, Terrible Result
In my project i have an MC that tells an other MC to resize.

Somthing like:

ObjectHeight = 100;
setProperty ("../Scroller", _height, ObjectHeight );

That's not so hard, but when i play the movie all linen in the MC look like big rectangles.
The original size of the MC is w40 - h20.

Idee anyone?

Terrible Flash For Each Problem
Can someone explain to me why Flash would ever do this with a for each

Code:
//Create a prototype function on an object
Object.prototype.hello = function() {
trace("Hello World");
}

//Create a simple object
var bob:Object = {Name:"Bob", Age:"50"}

//Iterate over the object
for each(var thing in bob) {
trace(thing + " is " + typeof thing);
}
Here is the output for the above piece of code:

Quote:

Bob is string
50 is number
function Function() {} is function

Look carefully at that. Look at the bob object: it only has TWO values, a string and a number. But the output amazingly shows that bob has THREE values. And the last value is...an empty fuction! How could this be?

Flash thinks that the PROTOTYPE method is a variable in Object! It took me forever to track this down. I was about to go insane. It doesn't just happen for object, oh no. If you do a foreach on ANY class (dictionary, XMLList, what have you) with a prototype method, Flash screws up and thinks the prototype method is actually just a variable in the object, even though it only outputs a blank function.

So this is a bug in Flash, right? A prototype method shouldn't show up when looping through the object. By that logic, ALL methods of the object should show up in a for each. Does anyone have any suggestions for a workaround, or a better way to loop through Objects? I'll be here, growing my hair back.

Why Does My Gradient Look Terrible In Flash?
I'm trying to recreate a nav bar mock up in Flash that I mocked in Photoshop. The background of my nav bar in Photoshop has a nice smooth gradient going from black to red to black, but when I pull out a rectangle in Flash and add a gradient to it, the gradient looks very choppy and doesn't have a smooth transition from one color level to the next. Is it just that Flash doesn't make as good of gradients as Photoshop or is there some kind of quality setting that I have to bump up in Flash? Thanks.

PSD Image Looks Terrible In Flash.
A bit new to flash.

Using Flash 8 and Photoshop CS2.

I've got a letter (W) it's a psd file and the W is rasterized. I want the background to be transparent. I have a layered PSD file that I import into Flash.

Flash keeps the background transparent (so I can play an animation behind it) But the color really changes. I'm guessing do to the limitation of colors on the web?

Also the W get extreemly jagged looking once I scale it down in flash.

You can see it here. www.drewwfilms.com

Why Do Images Look So Terrible In Flash?
I am assuming that this has been discussed before (could not find it though) so apologies if this is a common question.
I tend to avoid importing photographic images into Flash, simply because they look so bad when the movie is published. But now I have a simple logo (gif) of two colours that looks good in Fireworks, but all bitty and wrong in Flash.
I've tried Tracing Bitmap, that looks just as bad, and on the “publish settings” I have jpeg quality at 100. So why does this happen? I am sure there must be some way around it, as have seen some quality images in Flash presentations before.
THANK YOU EVERYONE,
Jo

Photos Look Terrible When Imported
Hello, I am trying to import some images into flash. In other programs the pictures look great but when I import into flash they look unstaurated and gross. I know photographers use flash for there portfolio's. So whats the secrect. I have tried saving as a Tiff, Jpeg and bmp all change when brought into flash. Plus when I click on the imprted image in flash it come up in the property window as a bitmap? Any suggestions, thanks so much for your help.

JPEGS Look Terrible In Flash Presentations
I am creating a flash presentation that includes some jpegs (logo examples), the pictures look fine inside Flash ie antialiased, smooth, the quality they looked when I saved them in Photoshop), but when I preview the presentation, the jpegs look terrible, very low quality, blotchy, very messy, in a word shocking! I know Flash doesn't handle bitmaps very well, but I'm sure I have seen better on the web.

The jpegs have not been saved as Progressive, but as Base in Photoshop. In Flash I have set the Alpha to 99% and made one of the RGB values in the advanced panel to 1. These are tips I have picked up elsewhere in Flashkit. Yet the pictures still look horrible when previewed.

How can they look fine inside Flash, yet terrible when previewed or published? Is there any way of correcting this? I would really appreciate any help! Thanks!

Sound Sounds Terrible On Stage
Hey Pals

My sound bites sound great in the library, but terrible when I put them in a scene to run on my site. They're Mp3's that I have compressed at the Mp3 setting in Flash. The Mp3's are about 1.5 MG, but when I import them in to Flash MX Pro 2004 they become 8 MG (??? ). Then after compression in Flash (as described above) they sound terrible when used on the site.

Q: How can I get the bites to sound the same as they do in the library when they're used on stage/in scene/on the site?

Thanks

Stu

PS - The site isn't up yet, so I can't direct you there. Just hoping you have insight from similar experience.

Terrible Problem With Dates And UTC Time
I have a countdown clock, but it appears not to work in other time zones. I think the problem has to do with my conversion to UTC time. If the end date is in UTC, then I have to convert the now date to UTC time, too, but I haven't been able to figure out how to do that. Here is my code--the countdown is off because the end date is in UTC, but the now date is in local time. I could really use some help quick (before my end date arrives!).

Terrible Issues With AS3. AS2 Works Fine.
Okay I've just got around to converting a game-in-progress of mine to AS3, all in classes. The code inside class Character mimics the coding inside the sonic movieclip of the AS2 version. The code is exactly the same in execution, it is simply structured slightly differently so it is more organized as a class.

The failed hittests when transferring over a block isn't even all of it. It looks choppy, and the character will begin to walk into the block when on a curver, and eventually fall through it.

This is a very big problem for me. Any help would be very, very, very much appreciated.

Terrible Rendering Artifacts In Flash Players 9/10
Hi all,

I may be the only person in the world experiencing this, but I need some help, and it would be great to hear if anyone else has experienced this bug:

Those red lines are artifacts produced by the Flash player, seemingly any time something on screen uses filters (DropShadow, Blur) or is playing back an FLV. (Note: I thought it might be that I had "Show Redraw Regions" checked from the Context Menu, but this is not the case) The problem has intensified since I installed Flash Player 10. I'm a professional Flash Developer and animator, and I really need this problem fixed.

I've submitted a bug report to JIRA -- Adobe's bug tracking system ( https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-248 ), and it's since been classified with 0 priority, which I'm guessing means that I'm shit out of luck.

I'm pretty miffed. I've paid for software that's barely usable now. I'm working on an animation ( the still above is from it ), and it's incredibly hard to see what's going on with all those lines dancing around the screen.

If anyone could help ( vote the bug up on JIRA, get me Edwin Wong's email address, knows of a fix, etc. ) it would be much appreciated.

Thank you,
Gerald Lewis

Audio Is Terrible On The Page (but Great In The Preview)
In a project, I have 3 sounds of 1 second each (25-30k mp3 clips) that I'm initializing with attachSound and starting with onRollover. Each MC the mouse rolls over should play a different sound. When I test the movie (ctrl + enter), it all works great, and the same if I create a projector. But when I publish the .swf and play the movie on my own machine in IE or Firefox, the sounds sometimes play, sometimes play halfway, sometimes don't play at all. Sometimes I have to roll the mouse completely off the movie then back onto one of the MCs (rather than from one MC to another) to get the sound to play. Anyone know what could be wrong?

Here's what I have:

Attach Code

// on frame 1
this.createEmptyMovieClip("mysound1_mc", 1);
rollover1_sound = new Sound(mysound1_mc);
rollover1_sound.attachSound("mysound1");

// repeat the above lines of code for mysound2 and mysound3 on layers 2 and 3

// then on frame 6
myClip1.onRollOver = function() {
rollover1_sound.start();
}

// with 2 more rollover functions for myClip2 and myClip3 that start rollover2_sound and rollover3_sound

FMS 3 - Stream.play() For Recorded Stream Returns False
I have a custom app and when trying to playback a recorded stream using the Stream.play(streamName, startOffset, -1), the result returned is always false, below is some sample codes:
flvPlay = Stream.get("myFLVSession");
flvPlay.onStatus = function(info){
trace("> Status code: " + info.code + " Level: " + info.level + " Stream: " +info.details);
};
stat = flvPlay.play("myFLV", startOffset, -1);

When I prints out stat, it returns false, and the status callback will print:
> Status code: NetStream.Play.Failed Level: error Stream: undefined

Even if I try flvPlay.play("myFLV");, the return status is still false. However, the video will be able to continue playing, anyone face similar problem before?

The same application runs in FMS 2 with return status=true, but not in FMS 3, though the playback still can proceed, but it won't start at the offset I specified, and since the return status is false, why can the playback still proceed?

Thanks in advance for any pointer on this.

Can I Insert An Extra Audio Stream Into The Live Stream?
I have a project where I need to set up a broadcast (from pre-recorded files) so people can 'tune in' at a certain time to watch a show. Some of these shows should have a soundtrack, can I use SSAS to overlay an extra audio stream? So I would send one video and two audio streams out to the client as one stream.

Alternatively, can I use SSAS to replace the audio, so effectively demux the original audio off and send out a different audio stream in its place.

Thank you in advance for any advice.

Character Mouth Synching--stream Or Not To Stream?
Hi-
I was curious to see if streaming is preferred when synching mouths to voiceovers in an animation. I always chose "Event" by default, but find that it doesn't play well, particulalrly when the server is active.

I saw on Macromedia's site that to "stream or not to stream" depends on several factors and that it is a matter of trial and error.

Any advice?

Thanks!!

Image Quality Lost, Exported At 100% JPEG Quality
I am working on a Flash website for a design group to display their work. These designs needed to be scaled down to fit the format of the website and many of these designs have body copy with small text. In the FLA file they look ok, but when I export the SWF, the text looks really bad.I know JPEG compression isn't very good for text but even when I export at 100% JPEG quality it still ends up looking different. The text looks very "sparkly" with the thins of the letters have been lost. The original assets that they gave me were all in one photoshop file at 150dpi with one design per layer and some of the text were just slightly pixelated if you zoom in (all text were rasterized and flattened into the designs). Some of the same images supposedly from that file had been used on their previous site with no problem. On some of the images in the PSD I can see that some of the thin strokes in the letters had been lost a little from scaling the designs down. This has been really frustrating and I can't think of how to rememdy this problem. Anyone have any suggestions?

-Sorry I did not realize that someone had already asked the smae type of question. I am trying the suggestions from the other thread.

<param Name=quality Value=low> Plays High Quality Flash
I want to adjust some flash content on my site depending on user rights.
The systems shows a slide show with swf/images, if the user is logged in he will also see a list of thumbnails with all flashes that is going to appear in the sideshow. This list is contained within XHTML markup and has nothing to do with the slide show other than containing the individual slides.

It would be nice if I could set the quality for the swf's in the thumbnails to low since 10-20 high res flashes tend to use a lot of CPU. Using <param name=quality value=low /> to achieve this has so fare granted no success.

Things I've tried so far are:

1. Setting <param name="quality" value="low" /> for the individual flashes in the thumbnail list. The flashes are still displayed in high res. Tried using " ' and no hyphens.
2. Sending the flash var _quality=low through the src of the thumbnail list elements. <param name="movie" value="/src/flash/movie.swf?_quality=low" /> with and without hyphens.
3. Googling quality settings for flash which all say to use <param name="quality" value="low" />

Things to point out:
1. I have no control over the swf. These come from all sort of people so I need to be able to adjust the quality via the web page.
2. I've tried different ways of writing the quality strings. value='low' value="low" value=low and so on.
3. The quality settings change if i right click and select quality -> low but they always start at high.
4. The source code writes what I expect it to, the flash simply ignores the values I send it.
5. I'm using a windows based machine with Fire Fox 2 and CS2, the site uses XHTML and my flash player is 9,0,124,0

STREAM From File, NO STREAM From Server Why?
I have a Flash Communication Server set up by (mt) for my site.
After using the fantastically-simple dinamically played .flv file, with progressive download, I wanted to try the real rtmp streaming.

I set everything as it has to be (in the client, there is no server code), and things appear to work: the NetConnection and NetStream objects give all the good status info.

BUT

No darn sound or image are output by the flash movie! If I try *echoing* all the NetStream properties it looks like it's completely dead (just as before using the .play() code).
what da hell!

by the way, I can see from my lan switch that the stream take place, because there is data passing through to my computer from the server.

Does anybody know why?

I tried all of these:

.play("mp3:mySong"); <-- returns an error;
.play("mySong.mp3"); <-- starts playing;
.play("mySong"); <-- starts playing;
.play("myVideo"); <-- starts playing;
.play("myVideo.flv"); <-- starts playing;

Low Quality Movie With High Quality Files?
hello again...well in the meantime the only way i managed to keep my pixel fonts crisp is by putting the movie quality to low ...however...i have some graphics in it that really won't show with low quality. is there any way i can have the movie at low quality yet be able to show certain graphics in high quality? perhaps by importing them in a certain format, or can i apply a property to them or someting??? or is it all or nothing?

i would appreciate any suggestion!

Low Quality Mc In High Quality Movie

High Quality To Low Quality Question
I have a loader taking up frames 1 - 3 that I want to remain as high quality and then from there on in frames 4 - 19 I want as low quality.

I have added on frame 1

_quality=high

and then on frame 4

_quality=low

But this does not seem to work - it seems to always be low quality throughout.

Where am I going wrong? - Any help would be so so so so welcome

Thanks in advance

Can Stream LIVE, But Can't Stream FLV -=
Hi there. Pulling out my hair...and i'm bald enough already!

I built a FLA that streams live from the FME - works great.

Cannot for the life of me figure out how to use the FLVPlayback (or anything for that matter) to stream a regular FLV.

Any help would be SO helpful!!

My fms and flv set up - ... applications/playapp/play.flv (also put in streams folder and _definst_ folder with play.flv in there just in case)

in the source, I have tried all variations - but is currently: rtmp://edge2.xxx.net/playapp/instance1

It demands an instance name, even though I don't know how that works (i know i put the source in FME with that, but this is an already made FLV).

Sincere thanks -
adam

Cannot Alter "document-jpeg-quality" And "use Imported Jpeg Quality"?
sometimes in MX i can always choose between "use document default jpeg-quality" or "enter an integer for quality" for imported jpeg-data. (possibly jpgs generated with photoshop 6)
sometimes i can never - i just have to choose between "use imported jpeg-quality" or "enter an integer for quality".
(definitely jpgs generated with photoshop 7)

can anyone tell me why this happens?

are there preferences in photoshop 7 that solve my problem?

thanxx jo
