My Animated Gif Looks Like Hell, Can You Explain The Settings.?



I put in a nice jpeg of the banner.....it looks good when I test it in flash.

Then, when I publish it as an animated gif it looks really grainy and bad. I'm not familiar with all the settings in the gif publish settings box, can you explain them to me?

Or better yet, which ones should I select to make the thing look decent.

Export Frame For Classes In Publish Settings Flash Action Script Settings
My preloader doesn't load until 100KB into the movie
and I figured out it's because it's loading my components
(I'm using 3 instances of a Media Display and of a Media Controller)
in the first frame.
So I changed the Flash ActionScript Settings (in the Publish Settings)
to Export Frame for Classes 2
which made the first frame much lighter -
an acceptable 10K
BUT that made my components act very badly.

Please help!

Create Non-animated Equivalent Of Animated Flash 8 Animation
Hi, I'm working with a template that includes Flash. It's bad enough I've never touched Flash before this project, but I have to actually work with someone else's engineering of one (I'm retrofitting a purchased template)! LOL

Anyway, all I want to do is to save a completely non-animated version of the animated version I've managed to perfect. The plan is to use it on sub-pages of our presentation so that people only have to experience the animation when they land on the page. Not when they're navigating around. I've already tried a couple of things including saving an image map version. All that did was present me with an error message that certain components weren't included, which is tentatomount to being non-usuable to me for now.

So, is there a way to tell Flash, "Hey, this looks great, now give me a static version of it with working links and everything!".

Animated SWF Is Not Animated When Included In Another Movie As A Clip
I have an SWF that, when run by itself, is an animation of a graphic equalizer display. But when I bring it into a new movie as a movie clip (I want to change the alpha, throw up some text, clear the txt, change the alpha, etc), the animation does not work, and all I get is the static images.

FLA is at http://www.black-diamond.com/flash_src/equalizer.fla if anyone wants to take a look at it. The one I am trying to bring it into is at http://www.black-diamond.com/flash_src/test3333.fla (the corresponding .swf to see what happens is at http://www.black-diamond.com/flash_src/test3333.swf ).

What The Hell
Could please someone show me some love and help me with this problem.

Ok in my main timeline I have a moviclip which contains just a regular square with the instance called box. And the movie clip "box" is in the center of the main timeline. Now I put this "box" in my main timeline as layer 2. Now in layer 1 of my time line I put the action:

loadMovie ("interface.swf", box);

now when I play the movie the "interface.swf" is showing down in the bottom right hand of the time line. What the hell am I doing wrong?

Ok could someone please show me some love and help me out with this problem.

Ok I have a swf called "interface". Now within this "interface.swf", I wanted to load another swf, called clouds. Now within this clouds.swf, its just clouds moving from right to left. When the clouds.swf is loaded into the "interface.swf", it shows the clouds.swf within the interface.swf, but the problem is it shows the clouds moving from right to left beyond the actual movie stage. Why does that happen? Could someone help me out. If no one understands what I'm trying to say, then I will try to explain myself better.

What The Hell
I have used flash for quite some time but I am really having problems on this latest project.

I have a one frame movie and everything is being generated by action script. I call some 10 functions to complete the whole site. I create a movie clip called functions and then put all my code in there. All i want to do is call this code.

where do i set a main function? like for example

I have tried right in the first frame of my movie but that doesnt seem to be able to call functions. It tried creating a movie clip and putting a call to the main timeline function and i tried attaching it to an action of a movie clip on the main timeline. But everything always seems to give me some problems.

What is the best solution? What do u guys do. what if you have a loop but you want it to loop every 5 seconds instead of being generated instantly?

I know most of us, if not all of us, have seen flash movies like the ones found on Stickdeath.com and the Xiao Xiao movies; if you havn't seen these, you're missing out. Basically my question is how can one move so many parts of an object at one time so smoothly? It's completely mind-blowing! Why The Hell Does It Do This?

I have used a .fla from the movies section of FK to simulate a rain effect. The .fla I downloaded works fine, no flickers or faults.

However when I put the elements into my own movie and change the dimensions etc, some of the water ripples just dissapear before they have run through their timeline, I don't understand as not all of them do this, only some.

If anyone can work out what the problem is I would be very grateful, the .fla is here......

Hi, after much messing around I finally habe this to work... sort of! I have a button on in my main movie with this AS on it

What The Hell...
Ok, this is really frustrating me. My UI Scrollbar componant refuses to be placed anywhere on the stage apart from 0,0. Whenever I try to drag it to another location, it immediatly appears back at 0,0. It appears I can move it through using the co-ordinate controls in the property inspector though.

Have I tampered with anything to make this happen? All the other UI componants work fine and be dragged where ever I want.

I Am In XML Hell.
Hey everybody,

Happy new year!

Now, on to the less pleasant stuff. I'm currently having to do Flash on a MAC. The only reason I mention this is that I'm not sure if this is a contributing factor to the problem I am facing. I've created web sites where Flash is pulling data from XML for displayed text, and the text is HTML format (shameless plug, but http://www.seemaj.com/ is an example). I use the CDATA tags in XML to keep the HTML intact, as recommended in many tutorials, and this has worked for me in the passed.

However, now that I'm developing on a MAC, I've noticed that the HTML tags are appearing as text when displayed in Flash. Only when I remove the CDATA tags does it operate properly. I don't understand what I am doing differently, but as far as I can tell, I'm following the exact same steps as I did on a PC.

Is there perhaps a default setting on the MAC version of Flash 8 Pro that is causing the issue? I've attached a zip file containing the needed files for your considerable scrutiny.

Be sure the destination file is not locked or on a locked drive, Also check that the filename is not too long.

I thought at first having the XML declared in the loop does make it just loop through 15 times ( length of my nodes) and just display the last XML item, but when i declare it before it, it does NOTHING !!!!!!!!!! it doesnt even display a damn thing, soon as i put it within my loop it displayed atleast something, can anyone help me please ?

XM HELL
Hi Guys

I'm new here and I need a little help. Been using XML for years but have a wee problem that I cannot solve.

I have a swf which is the base of my site. I load in another swf (into a movie clip) and attempt to load an XML file - or rather lack of it because nothing happens. None of my code points to root and if I try hardcoding my XML code into a movie clip it works.

It just won't work when the swf is loaded into another swfs movie clip, it really is doing my head in as I've been hard at it for hours

Hi there! So here's my story! I have been stuck in this one thing for days now, so I am hoping one of you much smarter people than me can help me out!

I am creating a website for a design studio. The concept is to have an index on the main page of words that are related to their projects. So basically there are different entry ways to see one thing. For example you could see a book of art by clicking on "Books", or clicking on "Art", or clicking on "MoMa".

The Index, is basically a huge menu. That's how I look at it. The index is divided in 5 sections:
1.Project Categories
2. Project Names
3.Segment
4.Clients
5. Keywords

I have managed how to access each node of my Xml tree and extract the information I want. I have successfully stored the content from Project Categories into a variable called aCategory and flowed the elements from that array into a series of movies called McIndex1.mc0... McIndex1.mc1...

And here is where it gets fun! I can't figure out how to flow the content from variable aProjects into the series mcIndex2.mc...; I tried to approach the same way I did aCategory and it only flows a couple of the elements. Help?

my Xml looks something like this:
project categories are the parent nodes. Inside each of the 7 categories (Books, brochures, Collateral, Custom Publishing, Editorial, Identity and Packaging) there are some nested nodes: Project name, segment, keyword and images).

What The Hell Is Going On Here?

really weird problem, i dont understand why its happening at all.

ive stipped the code down to pretty much nothing, first off here it is:

Actionscript Code:
i = 0;
function create_normal_enemy(amount){ //start function

so what i think should happen is i goes from 0 to 9, stepping up one every 2 seconds.

but what actually happens is:

why is it doing this?

NaN Hell
Please help.....

i'm trying to add values that have been entered into dynamic text boxes. (values passed from a mySQL db).

It keeps returning NaN. Thing is, i'm 100% confident that the 'text' in these boxes *IS* a number.
I'm using the number() function too, it's just not playing fair.

Any ideas?
