Flash :: N00b Question Plz HElp

God Im A N00b
im a COMPLETE flash n00b - ive had it for less than 20hrs

im trying to make a simple movie thing and i want a certain 10 fps to play 5 times over rather than increase the filesize and do it manually 5 times over.

so in theory i want the variable x to play add 1 to itself 4 times [each time calling and playing the wanted frame] and on the fifth to stop 'going back' and just carry on

is this possible?

in anyway cos i dont know how to go about this - i have tried but only in one frame by creating an 'action'

please help

I am working on a flash page at the moment, and I have looked through nearly ever help file on this the Flash Kit site.

What I am trying to do is create a flash page, where the background is black, and three different words come into view at different times, all with a sound when they reach the middle of the page and stop. I have no idea how I would do that. Please help me out if you have a link, or can explain it to me at all.

Ok...In the beginning of my intro movie I ahve the background set to black. but on the third scence I want it to go white. If I do properties of movie and change it to white then all of the frames/slides and layers go white, the BG atleast! How do I get a diff BG in the third layer of my movie? Thanks in advance and this has something to do with movie clips doens't it?!?Anyways I'm stumped and help would be appreciated! Thx!

ok dokey lol im sorta new here. Anyways I would like to start a movie by pressing a button. What would I type in thatbox and do I have to make any adjustment to make it work. I tried it a couple of times and whenever i press enter (play) it nevery stops it just plays all the way throught. Thnx.

ex: i have 32.93029382734 in a dynamic text field and i want it to be rounded to 32. ive tried int and math.round and math.floor but nothing seems to work. any ideas??

Yeah so anyway, can someone tell me how i can add a background in flash and make it stay like it is whilst i have something else animating? like say i had a car going from the left hand side to the right. obviously, the background wouldn't need to do anything apart from just be in all of the movie.
Is there a way i can do it, then lock it or summin so it doesn't get interrupted whilst i muck about with the car?

Anyway, i'm really a newbie to flash so any help would be appriecated.

OK, here is my problem:

1) I am not that familiar with Flash MX, I have played with Flash 5, and MX is way different.

2) I want to make a menu with flash. SO I tried using the menu_dropdown template, but for some reason the text doesnt show up.

I will upload everything i have done so far. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. I even used the original xml file.

hi everyone as you may have guessed im a total flash N00B so i figured this would be the best place to post.

im making a new layout for my web site and i was wondering if it would be possible to do the following.

have a side picture with the matrix effect cascading down but instead of the matrix code use my own text and colour scheme.

i have seen many flash menu makers out on the web i wanted to know would it be best to code my own or use one of them since the effect i am looking for is where the menu slides down to reveal liks so for example

The part which is puzzling me is the (!fit1) statement and the fit1 = 1;
trace ("1"); statements. Am i correct in that (!fit1) means 'not equal to'? Can anyone plz help? TIA

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone could give me some help on flash mx.

Up until now I have been a web developer, but my new job requires me to learn rather high-level flash very quickly, specifically the creation of full flash websites. Ive already got up to speed with the concepts of flash mx and am now looking into the actionscript. I am, however finding it difficult to put it all into perspective and so was wondering if anyone would know any good resource websites, specifically those with comprehensive tutorials of the complex aspects of flash interaction, flash with asp, complex dynamics and the like.

Ive already been around a lot of sites and have found Kirupa, Flashkit and the like all very helpful.

Ive noticed that the flash community are a lot less willing to share info than the html/asp/jsp communities. Im hoping that I have just been looking in the wrong places up until now

Hi all i'm a fairly new guy to web design i am in bottom gamer and play UT2003 & UT mostly but more of my time latly have gone to web design

I am compleatly new to flash mx or flash for that matter i have done some web sites with photoshop 7 i'v made www.dpclan.com for my clan buddies and a number of sites quite like it (the miss alignment of the images aint my fault its our web masters )

now i downloaded spiral menu 2 figured out how to edit the shapes and added some detail an text to the middel bar removed the wireframe logo (i will mention both wire frame and ultrashock in credits)

now i want to make 2 things

1 i want to asign diffrent symbols to diffrent rows so that i can have multipel options not only 1

and 2 i want the icons and text clickabel so you get to a spesific URL or slide another window like object from left edge

is any of this possibel? if so how do i make it happen? i imagen i have to duplicate the animated icon and text to make em work as individual buttons but how do i make em buttons and how do i make the menu out of many diffrent options

Hiya everyone! Yet again Im stuped and require the expertise of only the elite flash makers

2 Questions

1. I have successfully imported a flash animation into another one. Now, when I want to align it It looks horrible b/c one frame is where I want it, and the rest are were it was imported to. I tried highlighting them and moving it at once but of course for me it failed.

2. Now, without the falsh being in the right place, I wanted one Layer to continue looping (THe audio bars I wanted to lopp up and down) While the background layer I wanted to fade in and stop. I inserted a stop command at the end of the folder layer but now everything stops. How can I have one layer continously lopp while once fades in and then stops?

Flash N00b Needs Help
Im a complete flash n00b, so plz help me out here,
i just want 2 use the random() function to return a number from 0-79, and then have a text box to say 5 if it is between 0 and 9, 15 if between 10 and 14, etc.

this is the code i have, but it keeps returning 65 in the text box (_root.outcome). I made another text box to show the random number to help find the prob, but the random() function is working fine, but it keeps bringing up "65".

... i want to add a preloader to an mc in my site. i have got my site with a preloader. when the main page loads, after clicking a button i want an mc to appear with a seperate preloader which loads an image (all of this in a small square on top of the the main page with some of the main page still in view apart from the bit covered by the square)...
how wud i do this?

A Few N00b Questions, Please Help.
Ok im not so sure how noob this question is, but how would i go about doing this if its possible.

I want to kindof have a window inside of a window i.e. you know how you have the background size, and anything outside that doesnt get shown untill it appears onto the background area. I want to make a window inside a scene i already have, but have that window as a seperate animation (a button), so when someone moves their cursor OVER the button, the animation will happen but it will not show you where it is right at the beginning, just inside the Background area of the window.

Also another question, is it possible to have a news posting script in Flash, i.e. make a scroll box window, and inside that have a script so people can post news and it will show in that?

and finally. I mad a button animation, its a popup kindof button, i.e. you move the cursor over the button, a line comes up and 2 lines come out of that, and the 2 lines are the button. How can i stop the button on that last animation while their over the button and make it disappear when they move off it ? Right now it just keeps looping the button animation. THANKS!

Ok I'm totally newbie. I started working on Flash yesterday.
Before this I've been doing Swish very well.
But for me Swish and Flash are two different thing.
I don't understand anything of Flash, therefore I've started
taking Flash-Lessons. I've got everything with me untill
point "5.Understanding layers". I don't understand properly how layers works and how to do stuff with them. In Flash Mx it says:
"Using the arrow tool, click the triangle next to selecting layers folder is timeline.Use the timeline scroll bar to display the contents of the Selecting layer"

What does this actually mean??
If anyone have any other lessons for understanding layers please give me it.
I'll be very thankfull.

N00b Trying To Do Something Hard, Help Him.
I know some basic stuff, and I have a good programming background (nothing near the flash/c++ syntax) and I wanted to do something that seemed simple from a users P.O.V but now that I've gotten down to it, It's really hard.

I have a large graphic of an X, and I want small X's to fade from top to bottom inside that X using actionscripting. (I already conquered the masking) When I tried this using my timeline and NO actionscripting I got repeatable version of what I want where there would be alot of open space inbetween the loops. I want it to randomly spawn the x's above the X and fade down, I tried this already using actionscripting and I found that I can't because of the instance names.

I need someone to just tell me HOW they would do this, and not give me ACTUAL code and do it for me. I enjoy trying this stuff out on my own.

So I am new to flash, and I was wondering about some of its capabilities, I dont need to know how to do these, just if its possible ( but if its short and you want to tell me how, go ahead, itd save time later)
1) can a text box (with dynamic text) load an image url, thus having an image in the text box? text boxes do read html, right?
2) can I have something tween two motion paths at the same time? say i have a rectangle with a path guide on two sides and want each side to follow a slighly different path, would this work (it probably have to remain the same distance apart so that the image does not require size/shape tweening.
3) is actionscript javascript?
4) is there a way to turn off anti aliasing?

Hey, i just joined flashkit, and i got flash MX yesterday... Ive been trying to create a lil toon just to see how the program works, and i cant even do that. Is there some kind of interactive tutorial that could possibly show me how to create a simple cartoon, or even better a step-by-step guide...I dont really have the cash to spend on books and whatnot...

Hey all, im a bit of a flash n00bie, I only started playing with it a couple of days ago, my problem is this.

I am attempting to build a flash site to promote my illustration business. The home page for this will be a styalised city scape, when hovering the mouse over certain buildings it will highlight a link button to the rest of the site.

I have added the different layers and imported the button images but I cant get rid of the white baground on the buttons so they dont "sit" properly and obscure parts of the background image. Is there a way of importing complex image shapes rather than just rectangles?

If any1 has any suggestions or tips it would be grand ...I dont even know if Im going about the right way in the first place :P

First off, how do I impliment sprites into an animation?
Secondly, when I animate an arm, the fill usually changes shape & colo(u)r and lines pull from across the stage to it. Is there any way to fix this?

Hi im new to flash and using flash mx 2004. Im trying to make it so when the enemy ship its the player the life variable will go down one. i took a tutorial to find these things out and it only tells me how to do it with a button. I would like to do it with hitest. sorry if i make no sense but this is what i got on my ship i will only cop/paste the hitest part not the movement.

Right, i have a movie clip that plays on keydown, and stops on key up, the only problem is that my coding is so awful, it gotoAndPlays frame 2, so when you hold down the key you just see frame 2 again and again and again, rather than the movie clip... what should be here instead??? thanks in advance!!!

I have created an animation in which a menu drops down and, I created a button in about frame 80 and it won't let me apply action script to that button, only the frame. So my question is how do I troubleshoot why it will not let me apply actionscript?

Im doing my first movie using action script. (I usualy just use flash to make movies without using actionscript)
Anyways, I am creating a quiz based on [url=http://www.actionscripts.org/tutorials/beginner/Flash_5_Quiz/index.shtml] this tutorial. I only wanted the multiple choice and true/false questions. So when i needed additional questions I just copied key frames and pasted them at the end. The only problem is my comments from the previous question stay on the screen for the next one, insted of being blank. Im not conserned about the result counter and end page (i took that out). So far I have tried putting each question in its own scene and i also got rid of the "next scene" button on the last slide (it was looping before). When I test the movie I get this: "WARNING: This movie uses features that are not supported in the Flash 5 player
Scene=Scene 2, layer=elements, frame=1:Flash MX Button Instance Name"

Ill give you any info you want... just tell me how. you guys/gals are the best

Ok, I'm trying to get better with my AS skills, and have run into a little problem with arrays. Heres what happens, I load a txt file, flash takes one of the strings from the file, and spilts it into an array. Here is what I have:

on Press, it loads the mp3 from an external source, then on release it checks to see if the song is loaded completely or not. If it isn't, then it tells a dynamic text box to display "Not Ready: XX%". If it is, it tells the same text box to display "Now Playing: Miss You" as well as play the song. I'm using this script for 5 other songs in the same movie, and it works fine, but I have some questions:

1. How would I make it so the text box updates automatically with the percent loaded of the last song clicked? For example, if I were to click button 1, the text box would display the loading status of button 1's song and update it, but if I clicked button 2, the text box would change and display the loading status of button 2's song (and update that as well)?

2. After the song is loaded, it doesn't automatically start playing, how would I accomplish this?

3. I need some help translating each of the above (onpress and release) to functions. I've been able to get a max of 2 values, such as the song's external URL and preloading variable, but any more and the functions stops working.

Any kind of help would be great.
