Flash :: No Clue What Its Called?

Umm I Don't Have A Clue
Guys I learn fast and probably have the same interests as many of you do yourselves, or I wouldn't be here. I wanna make flash, I've seen good flash, it's awesome, so awesome it inspired me to make my own. But where the hell do I start? I have Windows Me, a superfast internet connection, and a semi-fast computer. Again, where do I start? Is there a certain program I need, and what is the best FREE(yes, free I'm a student and don't have the $$$ to spend yet), or close to free, way to go about this? Also, where are some good sites to go to help teach me? Thanks, and my appreciation to ANYONE who can get me started at this.

Who Here Has A Clue How To Do This...?
Printing a loaded jpg inside a blank MC.

Right now I have built a system that works like a slideshow.

There can be some 20 slides... each slide is an MC that I load an image into based on some variables that I pass to the slideshow.

Everything works great, except I want to be able to print the images that I load into the MC's.

Really need a point in the right direction here.

Hi,

As of this writing, if you ever visit the french canadian version of msn (http://sympatico.msn.ca/defaultf.aspx) you would notice what iam trying to achieve: the TD bank banner sometimes expands out of the html table where it is loaded/embeded and some portion of it gets bigger to cover some screen places, preventing the visitor to read some other msn stuffs underneath it. The expanded portion comes with a close button just in case the visitor wants the expanded banner off.

I would like to know how they programmed that. You do this from flash only or you have to put some dhtml or javascript in there too? Any specific suggestion or code would be welcome.

I Got An Idea But No Clue How To Do It.
I'd like to create a Navigation Bar in Flash.

It's in fact pretty simple but there's one thing I don't know how to do.
The Flashbar got 5 Elements: News, Reviews, About Us, etc.

Now the difficult thing: I want to have a dot which moves on the left side of the bar along the mouse pointer on the navbar.

Means:
If you move your mouse over "News" the dot should be on the left side of news like so: * News (* = the Dot)

If you move down to Reviews the Dot should move along with the mouse like so:
* News
About Us
Reviews

Moves to:

News
About Us
* Reviews

Flashvars.. I Really Have No Clue
Hi,

I am trying to make a little flash movie load an image directly from the flashvars parameter.

All I need is to get a single Jpeg into the main area of my movie.
I have searched hi and low to find out how to do this, but i am extremely new to flash and really have no clue.

my variables are

<param name="flashvars" value="imagename=imageName.jpg">

I need to load this up in my flash movie.

How do i make a little this load dynamically into flash ?

I have looked high and low everywhere on the net to find something that can help me easily make this load. I have no idea on what i am looking for.

What would be the action script to make this variable load an image on my screen.

How would i make the flash movie look at the flashvars parameter so it loads the image.

if anyone could shoot me the code to make it happen it would be greatly appreciated.

This Is Killing Me... No Clue How To Do It...
Hey,

So basically I have a MovieClip Object (Container) holding MovieClip objects (Holder), making one, big long clip. This part works.

At anytime I am showing 3 of the "Holder" objects inside of the "Container". This is also working. Think of these 3 that can be seen as the previous, the current and the next. I have 2 buttons which allow me to move the Container both ways.

What I cannot figure out is this: I start with the first object being held inside of the "Current", and the second is obviously in the next frame. The previous frame is obviously blank. What I want to do is make it so that if the first "Holder" object is currently selected, I will see the last object of the "Container" in the "Previous" area, and when I go backwards, I can navigate backwards through the list, over and over. Likewise, when the last object if in the "Current" area, I should be seeing the first "Container" object at the start, and I could navigate through it, over and over.

Think of it like a never ending loop. I have tried a bunch of different things, but I am getting absolutely no where... this is the code that deals with it, only using 4 Holders. If anyone could give me a hand it would be amazing.

Saw a wicked site the other day of someone walking along with the clouds moving faster than usual to give effect but it did not seem to be a picture moving acroos the screen because the cloud shapes actually moved like the real thing. Forgot the Url.

Newbie - Big Ideas Not One Clue
Ok well I have this idea of making a navigation bar with built in mp3 player

Could anyone help me out?

Ok now wat I would like it to do is have catagories say "Main, Interact, Media etc." and when a user clicks on one of the catagories just underneath comes up a subcatagorie list with like all the links that go with the catagorie.
So say I clicked on MAIN in the subcatagorie there would come up links like "News, contact, affiliation, etc."

Now with the mp3 player would I be able to get it so that it has a preload bar on it so that the users can see how much of the mp3 they have downloaded. But when it is loaded is it posible to get the name of the mp3 to scroll across the bar where the loader was found?

I Have No Clue Why This Doesn't Work...
I needed a script to generate platforms while the number of them was under 20. This is the script I used ("platform_mc" is the original):

Swf Works For Some, Not For Other; I Have NO CLUE What's Wrong;
Ok, I know that's a pretty generic title, but it says it all.

I've posted recently asking for help on checking different flash player versions hoping that this was my problem.

But it's not. I'm using 8,0,22,0 and 8,0,24,0 on my computers at home, and I've had BOTH verified by others that it doesn't work for them on either of these versions. So, obviously, that's not the main problem right now.

Here's what I'm trying. I have a music player that I created. The main timeline has 4 frames. In the first frame, I set up up some variables, and I use the LoadVars function:

Frame 3 does NOTHING. It's a dummy frame. Read on to see why.

I previously was experiencing the same as other users. The player wouldn't play the first song until I clicked stop and then play again. So I tried, in frame 4 (which was frame three at the time), to loop on the current frame, but it would keep starting over at frame one. So to avoid this, I created frame 3 to be a dummy frame and said gotoAndPlay( 3 ), and it started working (going only to frame 3 then 4).

So, here's what I have in frame 4:

Still No Clue With This PageFlip Problem
Allright now I'm desperate.
I've been working on an online catalogue all week now and I'm still faced with the same problem : including a toggable magnifying lens on a pageflipped (v213) document.
As I said earlier, the lens works ok on an individual .swf, the zooming buttons as well, I managed to make next, previous and gotopage buttons (which also work).
All these .swf are loaded externally from a XML file.
Mix'em alltogether and...NOTHING WORKS!!!!!!!! What a frustrating situation...
Please someone help me with this, the deadline is approaching and when I panic, I just can't think properly!!!
Now I know this can be done, I've seen it work on castorama.fr, the catalogues section (upper right in the right sider).
Does anyone has the slighest clue as to how I can finalise this difficult assignement? To make matters worse I can't upload files on this website, since the "manage attachements" button doesn't work on my machine...

The Unload Function ....anybody Has A Clue ?
I am hoping anybody can tell me this quickly......i have loaded a movie into a movieclip by the loadmovie target command, and now i am going to UNLOAD it. But the swf movie simply wont ....its just playing and playing....i follow the manuel that says i am just going to use the unloadmovie (filename.swf) command, but it doesn't work. I think i had the same problem before by the way. I am using flash 5 with flashplayer 5.

I am hoping to avoid the level-option command because this makes the whole thing more complicated.....so anybody please help me shortly !!!

I Am Totally Stumped... No CLUE What Is Going On With This.
Hi I have a very strange problem.. and I am receiving this error "Sandbox Violation" , I am sure most of you know it.

It is occurring in a rather strange scenario though..

Any Clue As To Why Some Letters Are Being Cut Off On My Site?

Under pricing section the "s" in cards is getting cut off and under events section the "h" in march. When I scrub thru playhead in Flash the stage preview doesnt show this occuring but in the swf that I publish it shows these letters as cutoff. Why is this happening? Could the mask (that is around the grey bar on the left be causing it?).

My Buttons Wont' Populate And I Have No Clue Why

Symbol Jumping? Anybody Knows The Clue? (not In Manual)
Hello,

I have a tween wih an undesired jump!

I know the Problem but not how to change:

1. When placing a Symbol there is that "small circle" in the center of the symbol.
2. There is a small position cross +.

Normaly "position cross" and "symbol circle" are on the same place (+).

In my case they are not!

How do I change "position cross" and "symbol circle" to be aligned on the
same place. (Which should then avoid jumping!)

IF Im Using This Example, Any Clue How I Could Swap The Text For A Preloader Bar?
If I am using http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/p...transition.htm as my example and basis for loading external swfs with a transition, how would I go about adding in a loading bar?

on that website they just use a looping MC that says "loading", what if I wanted to swap that out and have a preloadbar with a percentage. In my rendition of the file its like 22 frames long and in frame 11 (after the doors close) I have a MC that just says text with blinking dots. I really want to just add a preload bar that fills up to 100% after the doors close, and than disappear as the doors open again (frames 12-22). Any help would be appreciated thanks.

NO CLUE - AttachMovie Question - Flash 8
OK. Normally if I had this situation, I'd make a bunch of external .swfs, and load them. But in this case there are too many tiny mcs to deal with...so...

I have a movie. It has a whole bunch of mcs in its library. It has some buttons. I want to use attachMovie in the following way:

This works GREAT with export in first frame checked in my linkage. It doesn't work AT ALL without it checked, and I CANNOT export everything in the first frame because I MUST PRELOAD the entire thing on frame 1.

I've never used attachMovie before, and I am new, new, new to Flash 8 (came from regular MX) so maybe there's something I'm missing.

Any help would be great!

i have a function 'tile' which either creates a tile on the board itself or a checkers piece depending on the option chosen.
