Ok,
I am new to AS'ing and I am having a few problems which I am sure has been answered many many many times here before.

First, I am creating my first all Flash website. I want to create a thumbnail photo gallery. Simple, clik on a thumbnail and up comes the pic with next, back, return buttons.

Second is a little more diffacult. I want to post updates to the site's main page, but I want to make it automated. Where I log in an a "Form" come up, I input the update info and post it to the site. (This one may not be possible for me but I am curious). Right now I have to recreate and reposition each tween everytime and it's kind of a pain as you might imagin.

Any help would be great!

Need A Question Answered...
I'm in the mist of primary ideas on a new project. The over all goal is not the issue yet just opening the first page. I would like to have a .html open with a pre-designed size flash movie. The look that I'm going for is a flash movie that changes size compared to the resolution of the screen. I think that is the worst description I have ever explained. Well, I will try to come up with an example of what I mean. This should get a lot of posts...

Well, as everyone know how to detect that an animation on the web Is Flash, you just right-click it and a menu pops up, this menu has options like Zoom In, Zoom Out Show All, Settings, Debug, 100% etc... And well, I just want to know what do you need to do to make that when you right click the movie, the options of the Zoom in and out don't show. I just want the settings such as settings and, About Macromedia Flash Player 7 how do I do it?

Basically I'm looking for the tutorial where when you move your mouse, the movieclip scrolls. So move left and the movieclip scrolls right and vice versa.

In flash, i have been noticing a problem when i try to add to variables containing numbers. Eg.

x=2
y=4
z=y+x

out put:

z=42

how do i keep them as values being added?

i want:

z=6

On Preloaders.. A Question That Never Got Answered
hi guys.. i understand how to make smart preloaders and all.. but one thing i could never get was having the preloader preload even the lobjects that aren't there yet.. for example

i have a movie that loadMovies a huge picture 1.jpg that is 100k. there is 2.jpg and 3.jpg though, that are also 100k each. depending on the "random" variable at the start, it will pick which picture to load ( loadMovie(thatInt + ".jpg", myBackgroundMC). i don't want to embed all of them in the swf coz i'll have to download 300k + the size of the movie. i wanted it to be 100k + size of the movie.

what happens though, is that it preloads the movie, but at that the pic hasn't been loaded yet, and the background stays blank til the picture itself has loaded.

A Few More Questions That Need Answered ASAP
Well I can now do the basics in Action Scripting (YAY!) and I want to make a small cartoon called Spacelab 2022 making fun of sea lab 2020 and sea lab 2021, Yes i am weird. Well i got this problem on my .fla i want to have a intro to the movie well not so much an intro as a umm how is it said "menu" i got it done and all and got it to wear i have my 2 buttons "play" and "Scenes" sorta like a Dvd. But the problem is how do i get the menu to stop with out going on to the next scene and playing the main movie also how do i get the "Play" button to make it play the main movie if some one can make a demo and show me it dosent have to be nothing special just a small demo i would love that or explain it to me.

Ok im haveing problems making chars for my movies they all look like blobs and i know i can do this cause i am very artistic and i work well with photoshop 6 and 7 and many other graphix programs is there a special way ppl make their chars in the flash program cause i am so lost on this.

When i was talking about the chars i thought of moving mouths i am a big newgrounds fan and i watch mouth movements but i am so lost on how to make them i know its something easy but i just dont understand!

i've been searching this board for over an hour trying to find an answer to my problem.
I keep finding topics that seem to relate to my same problem but they never seem to recieve a satisfactory answer.

What i want to achieve i hope is quite simple as i see it on a lot of sites.
Here is an example but i could also name hundreds.

before each section loads, there is a transiton of horizontal bars of various transparency that move up and down the page.
Is this done using tweens or is it action script, as there seems to be a lot of easing and subtle movements in the animatoins.

Can someone please provide me with an example .fla of how this would work or point me in the direction of a nice tutorial.

I also apologise if this has indeed been answered previously, but i am exhausted following threads that threaten to answer my question but never quite make it.

Preloader Question That Has Not Been Answered Before.
I know it might be hard to beleive, as there have been quite a few pre-loader questions posted in the last couple of days alone, but as far as I know, this one has not been asked. In fact I am not even sure it should come under the heading 'pre-loader'.

Anyway, is there a way to set it so a preloader display while the body of the site is loading, but it will not wait for the images to load. Instead it will display and each image has it's on pre-loader. I hope I am making sense here.

Hi there, im building a site all in flash, with a welcome page and an enter site button. I can add a preloader which takes you through as soon as you type the url, but i would like the page to stop and only load when you click on the enter site button, see the loadbar appear whilst loading then take you to the second frame (page). I have read through many of the preloaders q&a in this area and none of them appear to help me with this. Can anyone spare me a little time and knowledge. Thanx

Tell User If They Answered Correctly
Does anyone know of a way to give a user feedback on how many letters
they have entered correctly in a spelling type of game.

I have a phrase that needs to be re-spelled correctly in text input fields, that the user clicks into and types into.

I have a basic script that evaluates whether the letter entered in an input field is correct, however I want to create it so that it can return the current number of correct letters. How might I write the AS for such a thing without creating tons of separate statements and Dynamic Text Variables.

Here is a snippet of my code, as you can see the dynamic text variable "answer" is addressing only one letter. How can I make it do double duty and be aware of how many letters are correct?

A Simple Question But Can It Be Answered?
I have a gallery that uses a cool transition effect. My problem is is that the actionscript is built to work with the images included inside the swf. This is bad because if there's too many pictures the swf will become bloated and that's not cool. Therefor I've been trying (and failing) to have this actionscript work but load the images from a external folder (or dynamically as some might say). I Just Want A Simple Question Answered...
Yes, I know this is in the wrong place, it should be in actionscript, but I hate waiting for responses, so here is my question: I need to modify the ".enabled" property for a myriad of nested movie clips within another movieclip. I was told there is some way to reference all the smaller clips at once using "prototype," but I don't know how to do that. I only managed to write "MovieClip.prototype.enabled = false;" which disabled all the movie clips instead of just the ones I wanted to disable.
Can anybody help me?! I will be eternally grateful for the correct answer.

Guys, just press help when in flash and go to the Actionscript Dictionary or Reference. Failing this type some of the code your trying to use into Google.com for example if you're trying to learn how a hittest works and you know this much -'IF(THIS.HITTEST' type that into the search and you'll be surprised how easily you will find a resource.
You simply wont learn if you just ask ppl to work it out for you..

Streaming Sound Messes Up (seen Before, But Never Answered)
so, i have this purdy big fla (flash mx 2004) running, which is spread out over several scenes.

every once in a while, i have a sound or song play that syncs up with something that happens in the movie. i'll have a track playing in the first scene and another one on the third or seventh, etc. plays out beautifully when i test the scenes as separat swfs, and the same when i view a live preview in the timeline.

however, when i publish the entire movie, things mess up.

the first scene or two plays fine, but the sounds after that begin playing way too early. sometimes a few frames too early, sometimes entire scenes too early.

all of my sounds are set to stream.

i've seen similar questions asked here before, and just read through many of them, but most seem to be unresolved (or simply don't apply to me).

any help, please? its really killin me

I have not found any FAQs on this but , it is step zero.

A web developer made some flash pages, he is out of contact now. These are .swf, .fla, and .html files. Pages were done in flash so the pictures on the site wouldnt be stolen.

Q: How do I modify the text for the site? I don't see text in the .html files, Is it in the .swf, .fla? I dont't own Flash, but my girlfriend just got a copy. We tried to modify an fla, I believe, and uploaded it , but no luck, Are we doing this right?

I have a site, http://www.steadysavings.com, that i've made into two frames, rows are 100%,*, so that, on the different pages of the site, a user can click on an image (actually a coupon), and it'll get added to the "Coupon list" page, denoted in the frameset by the *. But, I want to divide up my main page into at least two visible frames, so my flash menu bar doesn't need to be reloaded for every different page. can anyone tell me how to configure my javascript in my frameset page, and my regular, coupon pages, so that i can have two frames on my "seen" site?? I have the cursor functional in all parts of the movie, however I have made a page with text html links...and when I put the custom cursor on those links...I also get the default hand cursor as well...is there any way to get around that short of making those html links into separate buttons?

i need to publish my flash file so that it is compatible with the software at uni. iam using flash 8 they use mx2004. i have managed to save the .fla file as a mx2004 document so thats cool.....but will the projecter.exe, html and .swf be compatible? The only options i appear to have is to change what player they can work in eg Flash players 1-8. Is MX2004 flash player 7?????

How Do I Keep Track Of Which Questions Were Answered Correctly If They Were Random?
I am building a questionnaire and now client wants a detailed results screen at the end that will not only show how many answers were good but WHICH ONES were answered properly. So far, I have a var that increments whenever the user answers correcly. However, I have no clue how to keep track of which questions were answered properly so that at the end I can tell the user which ones he/she got correct.

Can anyone please help?

after my last question (http://board.flashkit.com/board/showthread.php?threadid=369547) I continued working and now I have a totally new problem.

I have a menu that runs with a hub navigation m/c that loads each individual section of the menu as a separate m/c replacing the main clip on level 0. My problem is that I want to load further m/cs from the ones that are currently loaded in level 0 and nothing happens. It all works fine when I test the individual clips, but everything halts when I try to call a second loadmovie after the first loadmovie.

Any ideas?

Hello once again.

Ive come across this very old thread which had been posted in 2004.
It kinda makes sense and its the exact code I think I need to pause the playhead for a few seconds.

"Define a pause function on the first frame of your movie...

code:

Then on any frame you want to pause the main timeline, just add the following...

As mentioned by the person who posted this, I need to "Define a Pause function..."
I have NO idea what he's talking about. Call me stupid or naive but I really need this piece of code to work. Ive looked every where for a code that could pause the play head in Flash 8.

Pls view webby to see what i mean... The different cuttings are the different buttons that can be pressed. I've on done up the button on the center left. Once i click on it the text box appears, like i want it to. But the problem is it is covered by the other buttons. And the other buttons are not disabled. is there something i can do to make the text surface out and overlay the other buttons? I hope i'm making sense... Thanks...

Easy Scroller Question.. Youve Probably Answered This A Million Times...
right.. the concept is easy.. a vertical scroll menu that needs to stay in a particular place in the flash movie.

so far i have a movie clip that contains five buttons. also a movieclip that acts as the bounds of which the scrolling MC is supposed to stay within.

at the mo i have a script that merely moves the movie clip up and down within the boarder. all i want to do is to move it up and down but with the mouse... oh and some elasticiy would be good as well... heres the code i have at the mo..
