Cannot Open MX2004 Flash File In Flash 8
I have a serious problem. I created a website using Flash MX2004 and have since upgrade to Flash 8. Now he wants me to update his website and every time I try to open the origional file in Flash 8 it just locks up the program. I really need to find out what I can do to correct this. Please help me.

I went to a web design company and made loads of cool flash websites and learnt stuff with them - but of course all architects and website designers all use stupid macs, well, they are not stupid, but they have bad incompatibility

when i go to view them on my pc, it says unknown file format when they have the flash icon and are called fla. the swf of the files also plays! help!

do i have to convert them or something? or can i turn my working swf files back into fla files as an option?

I'm having mjor problems trying to get fs command functions to work. I was sent this: FS Command("exec", "start" & chr(9) & "yourFile.ext") but I can't get in in right. It alway s automatically puts a after the "start" ITs really frustrating. I am also on a mac and the .doc will be master on a CD with the flash files. They will all be in the same directory. HELP before I stab myself. PLEASE!!!! HOW DO I OPEN UP .doc and excel files within flash??????

I am trying to create a Flash projector that would allow me to open Word documents or PDF documents from it. It should work either in Mac or Windows.

I have tried with the getURL() function, but it just opens a Finder window with the location of the Word or PDF doc.

Any idea of what I could do?
Suggestions of any tutorial explaining how to do this?

Can´t Open Files From Flash On Fileserver
I have the strangest problem...
When I installed my new Mac, I automatically transfered all programs and files from my old Mac (which worked just great on the network).
Everything seems to have worked out fine except that I can´t open or save files on the server from flash and Dreamweaver.
We´ve checked all access/rights-issues on the serverside and I have no problem with this from other programs.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?
Can´t find any preferenses for this...

I work on Mac osX tiger and the error message I get is a simple "failed to open document xxx".

Can't Open .flv Files In Flash Player
I have Flash and Flash Player 9 on my Mac OS v.10.4.11. I cannot open any .flv files with the player. Many are files that I encoded with the Adobe Flash CS3 Video Encoder. When I double-click on an .flv file, it opens the player, but no file. Same if I try to open the file from within the player.

Anybody know what could be the problem?

Flash Projector To Open Non-exe Files
Hi all I was able to run a setup.exe file on a cd using a flash projector, that is being used as the menu for the cdrom. The code used was as follows:

on (release) {
fscommand ("exec", "setup.exe");
}

The file setup.exe,is in the fscommand folder on the same level as the projector.
My problem is that I want to launch a .chm and a .txt file also from the menu and when I try placing these files inside the same fscommand folder and using the following code for eg, the .chm and .txt files do not open. The code only works for .exe files:

on (release) {
fscommand ("exec", "help.chm");
}

Can anyone help?

Downloading/open Files Trough Flash On A Cd Rom
hi all

i got a problem with /opening files trough flash on a cd rom.

(I know how to do it on a website...but not on a cd rom)

i'm making a flash file for a cd rom and there are also some files that you can dl/open from that flash presentation. But how do you do it?
I don't think i can create an exact path cause the cd rom file can be located on the D drive,or G, ...ect.
btw...these files are stored on the cd rom.

Can anyone help me?

Unable To Open Word.doc Files From Flash
Hi!
I have numerous word files linked from my swf to open teacher resource .doc files.
When I open the swf in the browser and click on the button they won't open and I have a message saying that there was an error opening the file, but if I press refresh the word file opens straight away.
Any ideas why this is happening?

Can't Set Flash Player As Default App To Open SWF Files On Mac
This is the weirdest thing. Somehow the default application to open SWF files on my mac has changed from the Flash Player to a random Mac Projector file (i.e. presentation.app) that I published from Flash for another project. So whenever I double click an SWF it opens both the file I clicked and the other projector file. They are in separate windows but if I close one of them they both close.

To try to fix this I went to my SWF hit cmd+i for the info, changed the Open with application to the Flash Player and hit change all. After I close the info box and try to open the file, the same thing happens. It reverts back to opening with the random projector. So I tried deleting the projector to see what would happen and instead of opening in the regular flash player it went and found another random projector file to be the default application. WTF is going on?!

Open Excel Files From A Flash Button
Hi,

Im making a CD-rom that comprises of a Flash CS3 projector and a folder with a load of excel and PDF files inside.

At first, I used a crude method of opening the excel files by using the getURL() command. This works fine, but it opens and closes a browser window before it prompts to open or save the file.

So, after long hours googling through very few solutions, I decided on downloading Jstart from Flash tools and utilitys, Flash Development, Flash Movies, Create Screensavers, Convert SWF to PDF - FlashJester.

This software basically creates a .EXE and a .INI file for each Excel document, which can then be called from within the flash projector by the fscommand();

For PDFs, this works fine, but my problem that when trying to load up an Excel document, Excel opens up, but not the file that I want to view.

Ive been on the flashjester forums looking for solutions and in touch with flashjester support, but no fix can be found.

Has anyone successfully used Jstart to open excel files from within Flash ?

My Flash MX 2004 Professional Will Not Open Older .fla Files
I have a copy of flash MX 2004 Professional on my work computer but I'm having difficulties getting it to open some .fla files from flash MX (and flash 8). When I try to open the files I get the error message " unexpected file type." At first I thought it was because my files might be corrupt, I've been having troubles with my portable drive, but I decided to come here to Kirupa and download some source files and I got the same message so I think the problem is with MX 2004.

Has anyone had any problems with this or know how I might be able to fix it? I have downloaded the updater (do I have to run the updater or dose it update automatically?) but have not tried a fresh reinstall.

Any ideas?

Can Flash Be Used To Open .wmv Files In Windows Media Player?
have access to Flash MX 2004 Professional and might be described as an "advanced beginner' in the use of ActionScript.

I will be supplying a client with a dvd disc containing several .wmv video/audio files, so this is not an internet streaming application. One simple approach is to just give the client instructions to open a video file in Windows Explorer and view it using a program like Windows Media Player.

And if that's the only .simple approach, it will work. But I was wondering if a "sexier" Flash shell could be built with the client's logo, etc. on it and a button for each .wmv video file. Is there ActionScript code that could be used when a button is clicked on to send the action to a video file and open it in Windows Media Player, instead of having the user click on the file in Windows Explorer? And once the video is closed, the action would return to the Flash shell.

I'm hoping it could be done with Flash Player 7, which would be more widely available than Flash 8.

I've done some studying of the use of .flv files and so forth but wanted to find out if there is a simpler way such as I have described above. If it can't be done as I have envisioned it, someone please say so. Then, I will decide whether to use the non-Flash approach or look at other options.

Any guidance (and code even) will be greatly appreciated.

Open PDFfiles From Mx2004 Projectors
Hello everyone:
These week I'm finishing a CDROM projector made with FlashMx Pro.
From a navigation link it must be opened a PDF file from within the projector and without requering the need of a connection to internet.
In Flash MX we had the possibility to write:
fscommand("exec", "myfiles/pdf/foo.pdf"); but it seeems that this solution doesn't work with AS2
Does anyone faced up these problem or developed any solution for this case?
Any suggestion, coment or solution will be appreciated.

The button to launch the pop-up works when on the main timeline, but does not work inside a movieclip, which is where I need it...of course.

Open Pdf Files Causing IE Window To Open And Crash
On a macintosh OSX, when trying to open a pdf using:

getURL(./somePDF.pdf")

this command opens a pdf document correctly but also opens Internet Explorer. Sometimes this causes a problem because it crashes IE and forces it to quit.

Is there a way to open PDF documents using flash that doesn't open an IE browser window on mac OSX?

[MX2004] Can't Open External Library, Including HaloTheme.fla
I am having trouble opening the external libraries of certain FLA files, most notably all the theme files (ex. HaloTheme.fla). When I try to import them, they are greyed out. I am using OS X, but when I try to do this in Windows I have no problems. Is there a bug with MX 2004 in OS X, or am I doing something wrong? I can open HaloTheme.fla by itself just fine. I just can't import it's library.

I've tried reinstalling Flash. I've made sure that the document I import into is AS 2.0, I've checked to make sure these files aren't locked, etc. A friend of mine also using MX 2004 in OS X is having the same problem.

Any ideas?
