I recently sent this message to the webmaster, author of the tutorial mentioned below. Maybe someone of you could help:

I got disappointed with this tutorial you wrote explaining how to open a new window from within a flash animation using a button. http://www.flashkit.com/tutorials/In...g_-Mark_Fen-5/ This is the URL.

In pages 4 & 5 you explain the final process of opening a window with precise dimensions and attributes, such as the presence or absence of scrollbars, navigation buttons, resizeability, etc... But these two pages are too confusing (at least for me). You don't specify what to write in the HTML page that holds the flash animation. What would it do writing myurl.html windowname windowoptions 'toolbars=1,location=1,....,width=100,height=100' and so on in the webpage?
Does it have to be hidden inside whichever html tags? Inside a JavaScript? I tried to put the following code in the button action, inside the GetURL part (this was generated with DreamWeaver):

javascript:MM_openBrWindow('clip.asp','clip','widt h=550,height=300')

"clip.asp" being the file to open, "clip" the name of the new window, and the other thing the dimensions, but it doesn't seem to work... I'd appreciate it if you explained it a bit better.

Hi everybody,

Does anyone know how to open a new window with a button made in flash. I made a button and I want it to open a new window showing an image but I want the window to be a certain size with no scroll bar or menu bar.

Opening A Window In Flash
Ok, I'm having trouble here. On my main timeline, I have a movie clip. In that movie clip, there is another movie clip. In the second movie clip is a menu, and I want one of the buttons to open a window in the main timeline. How do I do this?

Opening New Window In Flash
I am trying to open a new window in Flash without being taken to a Netscape or IE browser.

I am putting together my portfolio CD CV, and i would like to open up a link to a web project (that is not online, but in the root folder along with my Web Design.swf)I have done in the past.
I want my 'Web Design' page to open up a new window, so that the web project can be viewed. Then I would like to close it off once viewed, and return to the main site. (Please note; I intend to present this CD CV as an auotstart CD)

I have tried get URL but it always opens up a web browser which is what I dont want. I just want another flash window independant of a web browser, and to stay within the running of the CD

Can anybody help me solve this problem

Opening New Window From Flash
using the following script, copy/pasted from the tutorial on this site. when i click the button, it opens correctly, but it also opens a blank browser window that just has the word 'object'
anyone know why, or how to remedy it?

note: it doesn't do this when clicking on the sample link in the tutorial, but the script in my .fla is the same.

Opening A New Flash Window
I am very new using flash, and I am sure my question is a easy one to answer. I have built a flash website for my design company. I want my portfolio link to open up another swf containing my portfolio. Just wondering what the code would be for that. Hello,

I wondering if anyone can direct me to some useful tutorials on opening new windows within flash. I know how to create the button in which a specific url is the destination, but does anyone know how to create a window within flash which i can use to display info? I want it to be within flash itself and not a link to another website. The sort of thing in which I can click on it, a small window pops up, displays said info and then i can close it by clicking on the x in the corner. DAMN Opening A New Window Within Flash
my movieHolder (empty movie clip to load external swf's into) is now draggable with the following code, however once i start dragging it, the movieHolder JUMPS to position its upper left corner to where ever my cursor is, how can i prevent it from positioning its upper left cornor with my cursor as i drag it?

Flash Mx - Opening A New Customised Window
ok imm back once again - im having trouble understanding the open new window methods macromedia have suggested to use - i would like to open a new customised window from the initial splash page flash button...i would like to open a new window being 700 x 700 px with no toolbars menus or scrolbars and not resizeable as well...ive done all these three as well as some suggestions from flaskit submissions...the problem is it does open the window and eventually display the required interface - yet it fails to show the progressive preloader while opening the new window - i have dropped a line previously before here and was suggested to read over and try the macromedia advice samples - i have done that and to no avail - i have the sample uploaded so plz email for a link - i would appreciate the help......thank you FLASHKIT.....cheers!

Opening Another File In The Same Window In Flash MX
Can anyone tell me how to skip or open a new window, without pressing a button. I know that the function "on release" is used when u have a button, but what if u don't have a button. I want to open a new file when I reach a certain frame in the timeline. it doesn't matter if its a different or same window.

Flash 5 Actionscript For Opening Window
Hi. I worked this script out a month ago and have since had my hard drive crash. Since I only uploaded the .swf and the .html, I can no longer see the code I used or remember it. The functioning page is here:

the bottom button on the left that says, 'Login Instructions for Passport' - when you click it you get a small window with instructions.

The html page has this at the top:

On my website, I have a series of thumbnails with buttons to open corresponding larger views of the thumbnail. Here's a sample of the action:

What I was trying to do is open a 425 x 350 window in which the art would appear, centered within the window. left 350 and top 100 was where I wanted it placed on the screen.

I get the image in a window all right, but all the windows are the same size, and the art is resized, and not centered. When I publish it, it works as I want it to. When I put it on the site, I get a different result every time I visit the site.....

Any thoughts are welcome, and thank you in advance.

Hope someone can help?! I have a html page - front page to a website. The page has a flash movie embedded in it which i want to lauch a new browser window with the full website.

I have included the following code in the flash movie on the button to enter the main website:

and this is the code i have in the html page to allow a new browser window to launch:

But it doesn't work when you click on the flaash no browser window launches. Can anybody tellme what i am doing wrong? I am right in thinking that this is possible?

Opening A New Browser Window From Flash
Does anyone know of a method fo opening a link in a new window in firefox from within flash that isn't blocked by the popup blocker. It seems like the security in FF 2.0.0.6 (I'm on 2.0.0.11) has been tightened to prevent any _blank or window.open calls from flash getting through. I've tried the standard getURL, fscommand and ExternalInterface call to a javascript window.open method. Nothing now works.

I understand the need for the popup blockers, but this is a legitimate popup only invoked on user interaction (click) - the same window.open call in an onClick event outside of flash works fine and I guess it is blocked from within flash because there is no way of knowing if the call is invoked from user interaction or automatically - but seems a shame.

So any other way of getting a new browser window to open from within flash in firefox?

I did the tutorial on Opening a New Browser Window in Flash and when I used kirupa’s settings for the flash URL and JavaScript in HTML everything went fine, but now comes the problem. When I changed to my HTML file name and flash file name, the window does not pop up. I changed the numbers for the width and height in the HTML page, but I have a sense that I am not writing the right URL and java script code correctly. I don’t know what to write where it’s written KirupaStyle and this is what I wrote in the flash URL:

javascript:Launch('E:filesDim Light Design websiteTMP1usbk7l8fp.htm/logo_rio_popup.html')
and this is what I put on the HTML:

Opening A Popup Window From Flash?
I am having a hard time finding something that really works. Basically I need a movieclip to load a popup window.

I have have IDs on each thumbnail, that ID is loaded in the MC. Then once the ID is stored, I will basically be calling it like getURL("idTag"+"htm"), or something like that. But I need each window to be opened into a popup.

Opening A Resized Window From Flash
Hi there.

I am trying to open a window from a link in Flash, the window has to be resized and with no menu, address, scroll, bars etc etc.

I know this can be done as I've seen other sites doing it. I presume it'd have to be done through the "expert" actions, but I can find no info on it anywhere.

Any ideas?!?

In case you are interested, the link will be to open a full size image from a thumbnail. Would it even be possible to create a page such as /images.php?image=*** and have the window auto resize to the image loaded into the dynamic page and also lose the additional elements to the window?

Opening Up Another Browser Window From Flash
Hi,

I am using the following command to call up a html page. Rather than clearing my flash site on screen , and being taking to the new link - can anyone tell me please how i open up the loaded page in another browser window, so my main site can still be seen.

The reason for this, is that i am linking to my online store, but wish for people to play the audio files on the my site on its media player rather than trying to get the store to do it, so i still need the main flash site to be visible with this other loaded page in another window.

The line i am using, which loads the page in the same window as the flash site is:

getURL("http://www.jsten.co.uk/ecomcart","_self");

i think, it will be an alteration to the _self command, but i dont know what

Where To Put Javascript Action For Opening New Window In Flash
I was wanting to know something re: the Opening in New Window Command from a
Flash movie...
With the javascript command that you are suppose to place in the HTML page
of your .swf movie...
i.e.
myurl.html
location=1
scrollbars=1 (etc. etc.)

Where do I place it...is it meant to go in the head section? and also, do I need to put any
commands before or after the code insertion...i.e. <script language=javascript>

</script>???

Could you please give me a copy and paste of where the code is meant to go
and how it is meant to look...

Opening Browser Window On Top Of Flash Piece
Hello,

I've got a Flash projector that fills the entire screen and has a button that, when clicked, opens a URL in a browser window. The problem is if the user already has their browser open, the URL loads into the browser window behind the Flash piece. Is there any way to bring the existing browser window to the top from Flash?

Alternatively, is there a way to display a web page inside the Flash piece? I know this can be done in Authorware, but I don't know about Flash.

Opening New Window In Front Of Flash Movie
Hi:

I have another question.

I'm using this code to open a PDF document from a Flash.exe file that opens from an autorun CD:

on (release) {
getURL("test.pdf","_blank");
}

The problem I'm having is that the flash movie opens in full screen mode, but when the user clicks the button to open the PDF document the PDF document opens behind the Flash movie. And people are not realizing the the PDF document has opened.

Is there any actionscript I can use to make sure the PDF document opens in front of the Flash movie?

The version I'm using is Flash MX 2004.

Opening & Closing Window Boxes Within Flash
Hi all

Im not too sure my Subject title really explained what I need to do but im gonna give it a go and hope that someone just pops by and has a look.

I have a flash movie of a car with some round circle buttons on some parts of the car that when clicked shows particular parts of the car in close-up.

Before I just used a roll over button and made a box appear when I the mouse rolled over but the of course it just disappeared when people came off the button.

What I would like now is that when the button it rolled over small box comes up within the movie and juststays there until you click the cross at the side of the box and then it just disappears and everything is teh same underneath. Kinda like a browser window but not if you get me.

Im not sure how to do this but it would be great to know how.

I hope you guys can help me, im learning all the tme with this.
