Opening A CS4 File With CS3
So I just finished a nice and big project with a client that asked for a flash site to be done. I originally asked what version of flash they had so I knew what program I could use, and she said flash cs4. Now that I've handed her all the files, she realized she only has flash cs3, and the .fla's won't open.
Is there any way to convert back .fla files from cs4 to cs3? I am NOT re-doing the whole site in flash cs3.

Opening A Swf File Inside An Open Swf File?
Hello,
I am making a game which has ended up being a really large file. I split the game into 5 separate swf files. Presently, I am calling up the next swf file by using this script on a button:
loadMovieNum("Game Quiz.swf",1);
Where Game Quiz.swf is the name of the file being opened.
There is a problem to this, however, as the information from the previous file is not retained (i.e. visible mc's that were invisible until the player obtained them). I was wondering if somehow I could do the same thing but have the actionscript transfer over to the next swf file.

hi i have an peculiar situation in my client site...that
i have 1 flash file(name it as small banner) in the web site
and when i MOUSE OVER it ...i need to RUN another flash file(NAME it as MAIN BANNER)on A pre defined PARTICULAR PLACE ...
and as soon as I take my mouse OUT FROM THE small banner FLASH file...THE MAIN BANNER flash file should DISAPPEAR
so is this really possible?
if this is possible could u pls guide me in that?

I got two set of swf files, one is the navigation part and other is the main stage where all the info is displayed.
I know how to open swf file in the SAME file with container and all but this time I got buttons in navigation part and the swf file i want to load is in main stage. How can I do this?
If any part I explained here is not clear please let me know... I need to find solution asap so please write back

Hi there. before i begin asking help i;d like to clarify that i am very inept at flash. i'm just editing a template to use for my online portfolio for my architecture degree. So if you do help me can you please explain everything in a very very simple manner giving exact code i need to use ect. a step by step guide on how to do this would be be brilliant.
right ok.... I downloaded a flash portfolio online and am editing it as explained. i would like to create a button that opens up a file in the default application it used to open it. specifically i would like to open a .ppt file with either power point viewer or power point.
so far i have managed to get it downloadable through my internet browser once. but tried again and couldn't remember what i did. but as i said i would like to open it in power point.
any help would be appreciated greatly.
i am kinda working on a very tight deadline as i have to submit this is 3 days. so quick responses would be great.
Im running vista premium 32 bit if thats any help with flash 8

Opening A File
I saved a .fla v5 file on the Mac, when I tried to open it in F5 I get a message saying that, Access to test.fla was denied. This is the second time this happened to me. Does anybody know why this happens and how can I fix that file.

The only way to call the files is under the browser? Only by hyperlinks?
I can't call these files directly, without the message "Do you want to run or to save the file?" of the browser?

Opening A .RAM , .MOV Or .WMV File
Hi everybody!
I want to open a video file from a flash movie.
For example, I have my .RAM file to be launched by clicking on a button. When I do that, the .RAM file is opened into the Real Player, wich is exactly what I want, but also opens a blank browser window. It doesn't matter if set the traget to _blank, _self, etc., because the windows opens anyway.
I don't want either to display the video embedded into a pop up window.
Any idea or suggestion.

Opening .fla File
I made a website in flash in november 2004. I tried to open the original .fla file today and it wont, it says "unexpected file format" but is made in v 6 and I am opening it with same version. The file is saved on CD. At first I thought it didnt open because I'd created it on Mac and tried to open it on PC, but have tried to open it now on both platforms to no avail.
Any ideas?

i have one query, and i hope will be helpfull to others too, actually the requirement is as follows, our client will give us a .rft file (similar to ms-word .doc file), Which may contain a formatted text (superscript, bold, color etc) and images in it. i need to show the exact .rft format file in swf, can anyone help me in this.

I have published a Flash movie in Projector and cannot open a pdf file (spider.pdf) on the CD. This is the script that I'm using on the appropriate button in the movie:

I have installed flash plugin from abode...however still the file with extension swf has no associated prog to open...
I can open the file in browser now, but none of its buttoms work.
How do I associate swf file with some application ? Do i need to install anything else ? so far as i googled, i found i need to install standalone player, but i am not finding this....

I'm trying to get a button to summon a file from my harddrive and open it, so I can later practice doing this on a CD. I intend to make a program CD with a menu.
How do I do this?, how can I make a button to open a file on the hardrive without using the GetURL command because it doesn't work ... you try it.

Opening .swf File To Edit
I'm trying to edit some frames in a .swf file. I open Flash 5.0, and go to File>Open and select the x.swf file. The file opens, but it opens in a player only mode, and I can't edit it, all I can do is click on it to begin the movie. Can someone please help me figure out how to edit a movie that's already made? Does anyone of you know how to open a file directly? So without getting the download window. Because I'm making a flash desktop and I'm trying to make a direct link to a program, instead of a shortcut. ( I wan't to hide my desktop icons so I can't just place a shortcut on my desktop...)

When clicking on the button, which is linked to the file, the file succesfully opens the program with the file. However I first get a DOS prompt window appearing, which stays, and only then does the file open. Anybody know how to not have that DOS prompt window appear?

I have been trying to assign a button, when clicked to open a PDF file with Adobe Acrobat reader. It always tries opening it in Internet Explorer.

Opening Another Projector File
Hi there in flash 5 using fscommand you can open another projector...its works fine thats all good but I now have flash mx and it doesn't work. Is this a bug??? does anyone know why or a way around it. I can't go back to flash 5 now since the file is now saved in flash 6... and this is the only way it can work.
Opening A New File In A Window....
Hi folks. I was wondering this. I don't have alot of experience with Flash, and don't know anything about this, so please, anyone that has spare time for some questions that may arise, post.
I am making an interface fully in Flash. Now, when an end-user clicks a button, I want a new, independent 'window' (.swf) to get loaded into the stage/scene whatever, perferrably onto the top layer. I have the main file, and then the 'error box' that is supposed to come up in a seperate file. When he user clicks a button, I want this 'error box' to get loaded into the scene and come up, like an actual error box. It will have on OK button to close it self (unload itself?).
Please someone explain the commands involved in 'actions' of the button and such. Thank you.

The file should be opened by Microsoft Word, or another program which is the default for opening files with this extension (doc).
2. Is it possible to open this file inside the SWF file? What formats/types of files can be opened in Flash?

Opening A File In Flash?
I have all my setup files for various programs stored in a folder on my hard drive. I am going to burn them all to CD but I would also like to burn an autorun thingy... i know how to get the autorun thingy working and I want it to open an projector (exe) file.
Heres the problem.....
I want to create, in flash a list of all the files I will put on the cd. When I click on one of the programs it links me to that file
for example my flash file shows the following text
Dreamweaver
Flash 5
Photoshop 7
Counter Strike
When i click dreamweaver, I want it to open the dreamweaver exe file.
Can this be done?

Help please! I'm a little new to Flash MX. I have been working on a movie, and now when I try to open the file, Flash closes immediately. I can't even open the file to edit anything. Problems Opening A Fla File

I am having problems opening a fla file that was created last year. It is quite large because it was for a CD it is 58megs. When I try and open it flash bombs and says try to restart computer. Is it because my computer is having memory problems. I tried 10 back up files I can't believe that all of them might be corrupt. Any solutions?
Also I am creating a new movie and I created a text effect in swish. I exported the swish movie as a .swf and imported it into the library. It imported fine but it will not display it when I play scene or Play movie. I even published it as a .exe and still it wont show my swish text effect. What am I doing wrong?
