Browswer Size Issues + New "FlashObject" Detection Kit Sizing Issues
Hi,

After a few years of trying to learn Flash there is one aspect that really still remains a grey area to. What size to publish a movie.

Do I look to make my movies a set size on publishing – by using “Match Movie” & if so what should that set size be – 800 x 600?

I know of 3 other ways to get round the browser size issue

1.) Use the “Stage Object” in conjunction with onResize to allow some clips to fill a screen while keeping others to a set size.
2.) Ascertain a users browsers size & direct them to an appropriate version of your site.
3.) Scale your movie according to an ascertained browser size so if the movie was designed @ 1020 x 760 & the user has an 800 x 600 you scale the main movie accordingly using x & y scale.

The problem has been somewhat complicated for me by the introduction of Geoff Stearns brilliant “FlashObject” detection kit. With that you have to specify the size of the element that the Flash movie will load into & also set a fixed size for the Flash movie. From what I can see this will cut out the option of publishing a movie @ 100% & resizing or not resizing using the stage object.

Could someone please advise me of what is best practice as far as sizing is concerned.

Loading Issues & FLV Issues
Sooo, I've finally, after fours days (including two on the weekend), managed to build a .swf that will play FLVs within the Crisp Template....however, I have come across two problems:

1. the FLVs continue to play when you click on other menu items. How can I stop the FLV from playing with a command from the _root timeline to a timeline in a completely different swf? and where would that code be placed within the menu button actionscript?

2. I'm using Actionscript 2.0 and the FLV Behaviors "Set Video List" option. The FLVs are loaded dynamically, but I only want them to load upon request, otherwise it takes 10 minutes to load the page due to the number/volume of FLVs. Is there a way to code the "ready" event handler so that it doesn't fully load? The code I currently have in is:
// Set a 'ready' event handler to load the videos
videos.ready = function( evt:Object ):Void
{
if(!this.loaded){
this.loaded = true;
for( var n=1; n<this.list.length; n++ ){
if( videos.list[n].indexOf(".flv") != -1 ){
m.activeVideoPlayerIndex = n;
m.contentPath = videos.list[n];
this.length++;
}
}
m.activeVideoPlayerIndex = 0;
}
}
m.addEventListener("ready",videos);

// End Set Videos Behavior

What needs to change to make this happen?

Please see: http://www.kimiporter.com/hydeparktest/ to witness both errors in action

Mac IE 5.1 Issues
Has anyone else experienced problems with IE 5.1 on Mac? I am having a problem with a .swf that calles another .swf within it. It plays fine in Netscape on Mac, and on PC, but in IE on the mac it only plays the first few frames of the sub-swf and then the movie unloads.

If anyone has experienced this as well, or has an idea for a fix, I would appreciate it.

Thank you.

Mac Issues?
hey guys,

is there some sort of issue with mac users and flash mx? i've been informed that www.bossmodelz.com isn't loading properly or isn't loading on macs.

Cheers,

NS 6.0 And MAC Issues At 800 * 600
Hi,

We are facing a peculiar problem on Netscape 4.7 and 6.0 on Mac while
rendering Flash file.
Flash Player is 6.

The size of flash movie is 800*600.
When it is viewed on Mac 9.0 OS at a screen resolution of 800*600 in a
Netscape 4.7/6.0 browser, a horizontal and vertical scroll bar appears.
There is some dynamic text and image present on the screen. On moving the scroll bar, the text and image seems to be distorted and broken.

The flash file however works fine on all other configurations i.e. IE on
Mac, and IE/NS on windows at 800*600 resolution.

Please let me know what the issue might be and what is the solution for
the same.

Also I want to know whether it is possible to open HTML page in fullscreen on MAC?

Hoping for ur quick reply.

Thanks in advance.

MP3 Issues
http://www.sellingonhold.com/samples.cfm

The problem I'm having is that some of the mp3 on this page work fine. While the others play super fast and sound like the chipmunk x-mas special. I'm thinking it's an issue with the format of the mp3 itself. The files are being called externally from a location on the site.

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Old Issues
i really know that many times up to now were expleined about using PDF documents with Flash MX. But i really would be very thankfull if someone is willing to tell me exactly and clearly how to do this because i sow before one CD content where PDF documents is inside SWF and are dragable and Scroolable, so how i can move them inside and manipulate with them?
Maybe if i record them as Pic (JPG) and import in, but how i could connect them and scroll and drag them inside the FS Scroll component.
Thanks in advance

XML Issues
hey sorry if this question was posted before... i'm trying to make an online game using flash... and i want people to make accounts and bla bla bla....

well the big problem i'm having at the moment is with the XML stuff.... i want players to be able to load, edit, and create xml files... i got the loading bit down just fine... the help file built into flash was good for that... but the SAVING part isn't so good.... it said 'do bla bla bla and you can save!'... well... it didn't save crap....

anyway... i would just like someone to help me out and tell me how to save and create xml files using flash... (programming can be oh so aggrivating, huh?)

i searches the flashkit tutorials for 'XML' and only got laoding stuff

PSD To FLA Issues
I bought a template which had a PSD and FLA file - the FLA was embedded as part of the header but there was also a static header in the PSD. I need to make mods in both and want them to be compatible when I dump a new html file but am having difficulties with sizing accuracies, etc. More importantly, though, color changes and physical photo manipulation (including transparency) is very difficult to keep in sync and looking right without serious raster affects in the FLA. Can anyone point me to a good source of doing this 'properly' as well as one other question of a way to set up a transparent vignette (or gradient) in the FLA to allow a photo to come through from the back?

Ram Issues
Hi there!

Wow, I guess I could try to shut up sometimes. I've got a client that wants a presentation with pictures fading in into each other in a nice way, all in all 20 pictures for the time of 15 minutes.
"Piece of cake" I thought, ignoring that I'm a totally newbie in Flash, and of course it all ended up with that I'm standing on a very unstable bridge wondering if there is any help to find or not.

So the specifications:
I'm doing this presentation in Flash MX 2004 professional on my computer (2 GHz, 512 RAM). The presentation is running smoothly on my computer but on the client's computer it is the other way round.

I've done the presentation with 25 fps. I've made a mc for each fading and then imported every swf into a new flash file but I've understand that it is totally the wrong way to do it all since the flash file got _very_ large (the output .exe file is 6 Mb large). I've tried to use the loadMovie script, it works though the movies aren't running smoothly.
I know I've done completely opposite to what I've read about Flash, "use alpha as little as possible" but I don't know any other way to make the pictures fade into each other than to use alpha.

I've tried to make a preloader but it doesn't make any sense. Is there any way to load the movie into the RAM memory before playing it so it run smoothly on any computer?

Please, all Obi Wan Kenobis, help me. Do you know any good solution to how to get a nice presentation, with pictures fading into each other, run smoothly on almost any computer under 2 GHz?

Lookig down from the bridge,
Patrik.

Issues...
Hi there!

I need some good tutorials in order to achieve the following:

1) i want to make an eraser. I have a picture and a black layer (COVER _alpha=100) above it. So i want to make something like an eraser in order to reveal (COVER _alpha=0) any part of the picture i want. One more thing is that i want to have a button that changes the _alpha property of the COVER in...let's say 60%, so that i can watch what i want to reveal and then change it back to 100%.

2) I need something like an inventory list where i can choose symbols from and "drag n' drop" them on the stage. I know how to drag n' drop but i don't know how to make the symbol list infinite, if u know what i mean.

ANY suggestion would be appreciated

Having Some Issues..
Hi - I was wondering if anyone would be willing to help me with some issues i'm having with a flash game i'm developing as part of my final year uni project - not used to developing flash for the web..!

Main issues include a delay on the preloader, delay part way though the audio with background music, and delay on sound effects for buttons.

The flash in its current state can be seen at http://spartacus.host.sk/vajra/
Any general comments are welcome, but would love some assistance with getting these issues sorted - thanks!

Another One Of Those RPG - Issues...
Currently working on a little Role Play Game. Nothing special really, actually just meant to be a little gift for a friend of mine. Found a tutorial here:

http://www.flashkit.com/tutorials/Ga...-805/index.php

The author announces a sequel which I haven't been able to track so far... does anyone know a complete tutorial for a simple RPG ?

Thanks for your endearing collaboration,
aut.

Flv / AS 3.0 Issues
To try and familiarize myself with A.S. 3,0, I've created an actionscript 3 site, and I'm having some issues with a SWF that loads and plays flv's. The swf works properly, but if you try to load a different swf while an flv is playing, the flv continues to play, only stopping once at the end of the flv or until you exit the site. Here is the URL:

http://www.angryprophetmedia.com

then click 'video', then click on any of the video options. Once the flv begins to play, then click any of the other buttons (home, graphics, etc), and you'll see what I'm talking about.

With A.S. 2.0, I don't remember this happening. Do I need to use unload movie or something similar? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

[CS3] Mac/PC Issues
Gday guys.

My boss went and (stupidly) bought a flash template site which is populated by XML files. All good.

Anyway, somewhere along the lines, something has messed up.

The site works perfectly on any Mac browser... however, on PC the content pages appear briefly to the edge of the stage, then disappear?

Have tried opera, safari and firefox on Mac - all work fine.

IE on PC, and the content wont appear?

Any initial suggestions? The site is now in CS3 and appears to be setup fluidly, but the template is so badly written and labelled, I dont even know where to start!

Any help appreciated!

IE Issues
I a flash page playing 3 videos of different lengths. In firefox it plays perfectly and adjusts for the length of each video.

However, in IE it's holding the last frame, which is black, for about 5 seconds.

There are other minor things like images and text boxes not loading on the first rotation of the time line. Then the images and text will come in on rotation2, but the images will not scale. Then on rotation 3 everything works fine.

Does anyone have any experience with something like this?

Thx.

Xml Issues
HI, I got a XML gallery with 24 images. There are 24 buttons, one for each image.

I need to get the gallery to load random images from the gallery before the user press any button. Can I load random XML?

Also, if after pressing the button, the action stops for 3 minutes, I want to resume the random slideshow.

Is this possible?

Thank you

Here is my code (not sure if it is the best scripting, I am not a master in AS3 :-) )

Ftp Issues
Hey all, I'm trying to use FTP in Flash 8 but for some reason the "listener.onComplete" function don't seem to be occuring...

I'm testing this in the Flash IDE while the uploading script is live on my own server.

It's weird because the file actually uploads fine I just can't get Flash to recognise it has.

Many Thanks in Advance!
ant

Code:
import flash.net.FileReference;

// Allow this domain
System.security.allowDomain ("http://localhost/");

// The listener object listens for FileReference events
var listener:Object = new Object ();
var imageFile:FileReference = new FileReference ();
imageFile.addListener (listener);
uploadBtn.onPress = uploadImage;

// When the user selects a file, the onSelect() method is called, and
// passed a reference to the FileReference object.
listener.onSelect = function (selectedFile:FileReference):Void
{
//clean statusArea and details area
statusArea.text = "";
details.text = "";

// Flash is attempting to upload the image.
statusArea.text += "Attempting to upload " + selectedFile.name + "
";

// Upload the file to the PHP script on the server.
selectedFile.upload ("http://www.antonmills.com/upload.php");
};

// The file is starting to upload.
listener.onOpen = function (selectedFile:FileReference):Void
{
statusArea.text += "Uploading " + selectedFile.name + "
";
};

// The file has uploaded
listener.onComplete = function (selectedFile:FileReference):Void
{
// Notify the user that Flash has uploaded image.
statusArea.text += "Upload Completed
";

// As I cant see it working do a trace as another confirmation
trace("Cpload Completed");

};

// Call the uploadImage() function, opens a file browser dialog.
function uploadImage (event:Object):Void
{
imageFile.browse ([{description:"Image Files", extension:"*.jpg;*.gif;*.png"}]);
}

// Halt
stop ();
I'll also add the FTP code just in case:

PHP Code:

<?php//move the uploaded filemove_uploaded_file($_FILES['Filedata']['tmp_name'], "customers/".$_FILES['Filedata']['name']);chmod("customers/".$_FILES['Filedata']['name'], 0777);?>

URL Issues
Here is the setup.

I have a SWF that is a pre_loader for my main content set in a separate SWF. The SWF that is loaded begins without a problem, till you get to a link. The links are 100% perfect. using..

on(release){
getURL("");
}
No problems with coding the URL. But everytime you click the button, it sends you to a failed to load internet page. I have checked everything, and I am left to one conclusion, the URL script is not properly written for inside a movieclip. So how do fix this problem without getting rid of my loader.

Having As3 Issues
Hi All.
I am having trouble modifying a tute i did. there are 3 movie clips on stage and when you click on one it zooms to almost full screen. when you click on it again it goes back to its original size
this part works great......But....

i am trying to modify it so that when a mc zooms to full screen there are 3 more mc's which can also be zoomed or interacted with.
the problem is when i click on the inside mc the mainpage mc goes back to its original position. and then when i click again on the inside_mc to make it go back to its orginal size i get "The supplied DisplayObject must be a child of the caller" error.

can anybody help me tweak this to get it to work properly? i'm hoping its an easy enough fix and my inexperience is the problem.
i have attached the fla file as i think that explains it best. the top left mc is the troublemaker.

thank you very much for any possible help.

btw the tute for this is at http://flashmymind.com/Tutorials/Act...om-website.php

XML And WWW Issues
Hi all,

I have several flash movies on the front page of the following URL I am finishing up and really need someone used to dealing with XML to answer me this:

http://mmavalon.com

the first movie in question is the "slideshow" on the top right.

the second movie in question is my little weather flash movie that shows current conditions.

Both of these movies load their info from xml files. One is a local file, but the weather gets pulled from outside through an asp script.

Here's the problem:

http://www.mmavalon.com

If you put the WWW in the URL - none of the xml gets pulled into the movies!!!

Can anyone tell me why? This is killing me since most people are stupid think www is necessary to go to a URL.

Thank you SO much!

Flv Issues
I am producing a cdrom for pc which streams several flv files off cd.

heres my code:

Code:
my_nc = new NetConnection();
my_nc.connect(null);
my_ns = new NetStream(my_nc);
my_video.attachVideo(my_ns);
my_ns.play("videos"+_root.Vid+".flv");
I'm on a mac, the CDROM will be used primarily on Pc's. It works perfectly when hitting apple enter (ctrl enter for pc) in flash mx 2004 pro, but load it in a browser on mac or pc and the video doesn't load.

Any ideas?

Alex.

Lag Issues
www.versusmediagroup.com/soi

I am experiencing some lag issues with this site that we are working on for our client. I can't tell if our preloader isn't working correctly or if i am doing something wrong.

If you can help me please let me know.

Thanks

8 Issues
Hi people.

I've been fiddling around with the trial and I'm amazed with some of the new features, specially the new text engine, however:

1:
Has anyone noticed any real performance increase? I just made a mouse trail thingy with a lot of filled circles (plain fill, nothing fancy) following the mouse around and I get the same performance publishing under player 8 and player 7. Also, that cache as bitmap doesn't seem to help at all.

2: And this one is DEAD SERIOUS!!!
Remember back in 7 when you had to scale and/or rotate images, they'd get distorted, and you'd change the quality param in the HTML file to "best", and it all became smooth and pretty? WHY THE HELL ISN'T THAT WORKING IN 8?!?!?!?

I've just tested that and it always seems to crap-out the image. I've even tried to specify mc._quality="BEST" ... didn't work!

MORE: Try publishing an executable: CRAPPY IMAGE!!! Try running the swf directly: CRAPPY IMAGE!!! Hit ctrl+enter to run inside Flash: CRAPPY IMAGE!!!

Someone PLEASE tell me I'm doing something wrong.

I'm so disappointed I wanna cry.

///// EDIT /////
I sigh in relief. Just found out it's the "allow smoothing" option that's now unchecked by default.

Lag Issues
Can anyone tell me how to script complex animations without running into lag issues? For example, I was looking at Pixelwit's site (very impressive, btw) and there are several animations on there that involve relative high numbers of particles, but it all runs very smoothly. Scripts that I have worked with tend to lag with so many particles. Here's how I do it:

Code:
for(i=0; i<numParticles; i++){this.createEmptyMovieClip("particle_mc"+i, i);
this["particle_mc"+i].attachMovie("particle", "particle"+i, i);
this["particle_mc"+i].onEnterFrame = motion;
}

function motion():Void{//Code to describe particle's motion
}
I've tried writing code to delete and instantiate the onEnterFrames based on whether or not the particle is actually moving, but this is a huge headache and ineffective if all the particles are always in motion. How do you pros do it?

IE 7.0 Issues
Can anyone tell me why my dynamic textfield shows undefined on IE 7.0? I am loading php date script. Also contact script not working.

Both work fine in Firefox, Safari and IE 5.2. Weird part is same script works fine in IE 7 for another site I created and I used EXACT SAME code.

AS Code:

theDateTxt.autoSize = "left";
var getDate:LoadVars = new LoadVars();
getDate.load("

Help With Lag Issues
Hi,

First I want to start off with Thanking everyone who helps out. It means a lot to me!!

Second, here is my issue.

I am creating a training course in flash. I have 9 different .fla files ( the reason for this is because if it was all put in one, then the file size would be too big for any computer to handle), which go in this order:

Intro - just a brief intro for the course
Section 1 - Each section consists of a different topic that has streaming audio for the narrator. At the end of the topic (each about 15 - 20 mins long) there is a short pre-test that consists of 4-5 questions. Each section at the end of the pre-test has a button that links it to the next section which is a different .fla file.
Section 2
Section3
Section4
Section 5
Section6
Section 7
Final - 20 multiple choice questions related to the above topics.

Now, the problem: When I start viewing any file in Mozilla or IE the first one runs through the topics and narration fine, then the test works fine but then once you click the button to bring you to the next section (which is a new .fla file) the frames seem to stand still while the narration just keeps on talking. Then once the narration is finished and the flash file itself keeps running until it is at the ending, the pre-test comes up, and the pre-test will not work. It does not matter which multiple choice answer you pick, it will not advance to the next question.

When you run each of the publish .fla's themselves, they working flawlessly, how ever altogether they do not work so well!

Any ideas?? Thanks again in advance!!

Several Issues
I want to make a gallery for my web template in flash.

there are 2 levels of navigation, one for scrolling forward and back another for selecting the gallery to display.

http://verndewd.deviantart.com/art/PM-Deviation-crysis-final-106085311 heres the design

http://verndewd.free-site-host.com/crysis/cryblog.html heres the working model as you can see I havent figured out how to get it to display on the page.it is loaded into the html but apprently not correctly.

first task is getting it to display, second is what its going to take to get the tabs to select another mc file without a page refresh.

Flv Issues
hello all

here is a mystery i have about 30 hours in trying to solve, including reading every tutorial i can get my hands on.

if i create an flv straight out of final cut, and load it into flash, the audio plays fine, but the video is basically moving at not even a frame per second. (fps is correct in final cut export option)

if i upload the same flv and test it on vital streams site, same result.

if i export the movie out of final cut,and import the .mov into flash, the vid plays fine but no sound(i have tried every method for sound import). i can load the aiff seperately no problem as a workaround.

the quality of the exported flv is far superior, at least as far a the few frames i get to see.

if i load the .mov into flash, then export it as flv out of flash, and reload the flv again either as an external movie(on media playback component) or as embedded, the sound is gone.(actually the sound never made it in to begin with--i dont understand this). however, if i use flas to convert the movie to flv, at least the flv plays at the right speed, minus sound. it seems it is an issue with the flv converter in final cut.

i have tried every combination. i am using the 2004 mx pro trial.

thanks to anyone that can point me in a direction to get help.

PC/Mac Issues
My new flash website runs pretty well on my Win ME box under IE 6, but I'm currently sitting on my ex-girlfriends Mac running IE and most of my Flash content does not run. What does run, runs incorrectly, with snippits of HTML appearing here and there where there should be text. It appears that all external swf's called by the main rountine will not load/run. I don't normally have a Mac at my disposal, so this is an obvious problem if there are serious platform issues.

Anyone else experience this? Any other thoughts, suggestions will be appreciated.

Lag Issues
http://www.versusmediagroup.com/soi/

I am working on the site and when you click on a new page the entire thing starts to lag. I have a preloader but i don't think its actually loading the page or if it is just running. I didn't know if anyone knew how to fix this or if they have encountered the same issue before?

Thanks

Mx Issues
I was wondering if flash MX is what is responsible for slowing my computer after long periods of use, whenever i have flash and multiple programs running for a while, the computer is slowed a LOT, even when i close the programs. It is fixed when i restart the computer, but i am wondering if anyone else gets this issue.

MY comp:

1 ghz
windows ME
312 megs of ram

should not be slowed by a program like flash mx, but it is. Why?

Having Some Issues With...
I am trying to build a small movie that is similar to http://www.gallagherdesign.com/ <---firm people. I can make buttons control movie clips with variables and loops, but when you need to move the buttons themselves (nested in mc's or mc's themselves I assume), my way or working doesn't seem to be working. I am not trying to rip off the flash masters at Group94, I just need a place to start. If anyone has any advice - I am all ears - thanks, Cameron

FLV Issues
I have a website up at http://homepage.oniduo.pt/pedrommramos/ .The thing is that I have flv files being loaded by swfs that are loaded on a movieclip of a main swf. Locally everything works fine but as soon as I move it tp the web or even try to run in over my home network, the flv files won't run. Can the flv run inside a swf that is loaded into another swf?

PS. I have set the paths to relative already, this taking into account the main swf!

something like this:

loaded_swf_folder/flv_folder/flv_file.flv

if i didn't take the main swf into account it would look like this:

flv_folder/flv_file.flv

But I tried this already and it didn't work at all. Except if you run one of the loaded swf directly instead of through the main swf.

Xml And IE Issues
Here's my problem, I have a banner that is supposed to dynamically load 4 sets of images at the same time. I didn't know how to do this using 1 xml file since I'm only starting to use xml with flash, so I created 4 xml files for each set of images and based my AS on those 4 files. So far so good. Everything seems to work ok when I run the swf directly, but if I try to run it on Internet Explorer it won't open de images.
I read somewhere that someone had a similar problem and that it was due to some I.E. security issue regarding xml. But it didn't have a answer as how to fix it.
Here's my AS:

My xml is already uploaded in a similar post in the Flash MX2004 forum area.
Here's the link to that post:

So if anyone has an idea of how to solve this I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance for any tip.

If Else Issues
I never get the hang of these.'

Code:
_global.web_link_activate = (wArray[this.id]);
if (_global.web_link_active == "no"){
_root.load_area.zoomer.enabled = false;
_root.load_area.zoomer._alpha = 20;
trace("no");
}else {
_root.load_area.zoomer.enabled = true;
_root.load_area.zoomer._alpha = 100;
trace("yes");
}
that should work but it does not. it always says "yes"
wArray is a drawn from an xml document

xml is
Code:
weblink="yes"
can i set vars like true and false in xml kinda like weblink=false??

Lag Issues
Hi I am having some lag issues with a site I have created.

Firstly I have a pretty slow computer, 550mhz, 196Ram, and 64mb Geforce 2 card.

However I have created a site that it fairly graphic intensive - my computer lags a bit when running it - no real probelm.
One part of the site allows you to open up previous work. This appears in a centerred popup html window with scroll bars and pretty much everything removed, dimensions are - 126high, 500 width.

In the popup window is a flash intro 550kb, using lots of video & sound in it - dimension are also small 118high, and 492wide.

As its small dimensions in opens on top of the site which has a waving flag and a turning symbol. So obviously the computer has to cope with the flag, the symbol and all the video in the popped up intro. Net result : When trying to play this intro it lags for me like a beyyatch
If I openned up the previous work in a full size normal window would the lag amount be reduced?

Any ways around this problem?

XML Issues
I'm trying to get flash to read the XML file generated by blizzard that displays realm status, I want to add this function then to our websites header to display the server info in realtime. Right now I'm having trouble getting it to identify our server.

Code:

function loadXML(loaded) {
if (loaded) {
var i:Number = new Number;
var realm:String = new String;

i = 0;
realm = "Burning Legion";

while(this.firstChild.childNodes[i].attributes.n != realm){
_root.realmName = this.firstChild.childNodes[i].attributes.n;
_root.realmStatus = this.firstChild.childNodes[i].attributes.s;
_root.realmPopulation = this.firstChild.childNodes[i].attributes.l;
rName.text = _root.realmName;
rStatus.text = _root.realmStatus;
rPop.text = _root.realmPopulation;
i++
}
} else {
trace("file not loaded!");
}
}
xmlData = new XML();
xmlData.ignoreWhite = true;
xmlData.onLoad = loadXML;
xmlData.load("http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/realmstatus/status.xml");
Is the actionscript I'm using, with 3 text fields on the stage for now. As of right now it finds Burning Blade, which is the server listed before Burning Legion, which leads me to believe that it's breaking at the space in the string. I've tried using the & code &nbsp; for the space, but it hops in an infinite loop and then crashes. Thoughts?

Edit: Added the FLA

FLV Issues
Ok, I am really struggling. I purchased a video player from flashden, as I am still rather new to actionscripting. I managed to do many large mods to the file to suit my needs but I am struggling with one.

I want to add short commercials before a video.
That would be the content path of adURL in the XML. The normal video content path is videoURL.

XML:

Code:
<video>
<video videoURL="Welcome.flv" imageURL="image1.jpg" thumbImage="1.jpg" title="blah" description="Welcome" longdesc="blah blah InVideoURL="test.jpg" adURL="adtest.flv" />
<video videoURL="test.flv" imageURL="image1.jpg" thumbImage="1.jpg" title="blah" description="Welcome" longdesc="blah blah" InVideoURL="" adURL="" />
</video>

Here is the important code of the player (I removed all the items that do not relate to my issue to make it easier):

Code:

//Set stage settings
Stage.scaleMode = "noScale";
Stage.displayState = "normal";
Stage.align = "TL";
//EnterFrame
this.onEnterFrame = function() {
reposition();
if (showPlaylist && Stage.displayState == "normal") {
playlist._visible = true;
} else {
playlist._visible = false;
}
if (vp.playing) {
isPlaying = true;
} else {
isPlaying = false;
}
if (isPlaying) {
//tween out the image
image.alphaTo = 0;
}
if (!isPlaying && vp.playheadTime == 0) {
//tween in the image
image.alphaTo = 100;
}
image._alpha += (image.alphaTo-image._alpha)/6;
//trackbar
controlbar.trackbar.track_progress._width = vp.playheadPercentage/100*trackWidth;
controlbar.trackbar.track_buffer._width = vp.bytesLoaded/vp.bytesTotal*trackWidth;
if (vp.bytesLoaded == vp.bytesTotal) {
controlbar.trackbar.bufferbars._visible = false;
} else {
controlbar.trackbar.bufferbars._visible = true;
}
if (scrubbing) {
controlbar.trackbar.track_progress._width = controlbar.trackbar.track_slider._x;
} else {
controlbar.trackbar.track_slider._x = controlbar.trackbar.track_progress._width;
}
//volume
if (volumedragging) {
vp.volume = (controlbar.volumecontrol.volumeslider._x-controlbar.volumecontrol.volumemask._x)/controlbar.volumecontrol.volumemask._width*100;
}
if (controlbar.mutebutton.DoMuteButton._visible) {
controlbar.volumecontrol.volumefill._width = vp.volume/100*controlbar.volumecontrol.volumemask._width;
} else {
controlbar.volumecontrol.volumefill._width = oldVolume/100*controlbar.volumecontrol.volumemask._width;
}
//timefield
minutesPlayed = String(Math.floor(vp.playheadTime/60));
secondsPlayed = String(Math.round(vp.playheadTime%60));
minutesTotal = String(Math.floor(vp.totalTime/60));
secondsTotal = String(Math.round(vp.totalTime%60));
//add a zero
minutesPlayed = addZero(minutesPlayed);

minutesTotal = addZero(minutesTotal);
secondsTotal = addZero(secondsTotal);
//output text
controlbar.trackbar.track_time.track_time.text = minutesPlayed+":"+secondsPlayed+" / "+minutesTotal+":"+secondsTotal;
if (Stage.displayState == "normal" && vp._width != playerWidth) {
vp._x = (playerWidth-vp._width)/2;
vp._y = (playerHeight-vp._height)/2;
}

} else {

//set player size

vp._y = -_y;

}
};
//
function addZero(num) {
//adds a zero to single digit number
if (length(num)<2) {
num = "0"+num;
}
return num;
}

//
function loadVideo(num) {

currentVideo = num;
image.imageHolder.loadMovie(allVideos[num]["imageURL"]);

_parent.extra_info.description_text.text = allVideos[num]["description"];
_parent.extra_info.long_desc.text = allVideos[num]["longdesc"];
_parent.extra_info.thumb.loadMovie(allVideos[num]["thumbImage"]);
InVideo.InVideoLoader.loadMovie(allVideos[num]["InVideoURL"]);

vp.contentPath = allVideos[num]["videoURL"];
vp.seek(0);

}

Stage.addListener(listener);
vp.complete = function() {

if (autoPlay == true) {
currentVideo += 1;
if (currentVideo>=allVideos.length) {
currentVideo = 0;
}
loadVideo(currentVideo);

vp.play();
} else {
vp.stop();
}
};
//Buttons
image.bigButton.onPress = function() {

vp.play();

};

controlbar.PreviousButton.onPress = function() {
currentVideo -= 1;
if (currentVideo<0) {
currentVideo = allVideos.length-1;
}
loadVideo(currentVideo);
};
controlbar.NextButton.onPress = function() {
currentVideo += 1;
if (currentVideo>=allVideos.length) {
currentVideo = 0;
}
loadVideo(currentVideo);
};
I thought I could just change the content path in the loadVideo function to the adURL and then in the vp.complete function redirect the video to play again but change the content path to the actual video content path (videoURL). I'm either wrong or executed it wrong when I tried it.

If anybody has any ideas, could you share? I just can't get this to work. ahh!

'} Else {' Issues
hi there, im having an issue with a little interactive character im making.
i want it so when you click him he says "quit it" which he already does, but i want it so when you click him 5 times he says "your willing-ness to touch me is somewhat concerning, my problem is; he'll try to say both at the same.

this is the code i have on the character

on (press) {
_root.pokes = _root.pokes+1;
if (_root.pokes == 5) {
_root.heath.gotoAndPlay(7);
if (_root.cursor_name == 2) {
_root.cursor.gotoAndPlay(5);
_root.heath.gotoAndPlay(2);
}
}

and if i put a code like this in;

on (press) {
_root.pokes = _root.pokes+1;
if (_root.pokes == 5) {
_root.heath.gotoAndPlay(7);
} else {
if (_root.cursor_name == 2) {
_root.cursor.gotoAndPlay(5);
_root.heath.gotoAndPlay(2);
}
}

i get errors like;
Statement block must be terminated by '}'
Syntax error.

so, yeah, im stumped.
your help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.
