Scalable Dynamic JPEG On Full Browser Flash Site
Ok ... I'm going out of my head here. I've found a lot of posts in the forums here that have come oh so close to answering my question but just not quite.

I've got a full browser flash movie I'm creating. I've got a movie that scales out to 100% x 100% which has a dynamically loading JPEG for a background image and another empty movie clip that loads in the main content.

Here's my ActionScript:

I want the background image to scale 100% x 100% and resize with the mainContent_mc when the window is resized.

I just cannot get that background JPEG to stretch to save my life.

Any ideas?

Full Flash Site - Site Architecture Problem
Sorry for this post, but i'm really having trouble grasping the idea of multiple clips, transitions and the scripting to make it all happen.

I have been fiddling with flash for over 3 years now and should be alot farther along, I just wish i had spent as much time on flash as I have on Photoshop.

I now have my own domain, and want to make a fully flash site, as imageReady rollovers just don't get it for me anymore and I want to make a nice site with some impact...queue the flash guru's

The site i'm looking at and want to model as an experiment is www.desalledesigns.com

as far as I can tell, I need the following movie clips

1. transition (to include a preloader... close one content, preload scene, open next content)
2. content1
3. content2
4. content3
5. intro (actually would be a scene)
6. and so on.

is there a tutorial around that dives into this type of site organization?

I have learned many of the flash basics and am now going to sit down and work on a full site. I have searched flashkit and cant seem to find "full site" examples. Does anyone know of any that exist so I can learn from them? Also, In the Lunda tutorials, the author created 2 types of full sites. One was all in one swf file. the other was multiple swf files that were loaded in when needed. What is the industry stanrdard if any? What is your personal preference?

hi, im pretty new at mx but the thing was i did the entire flash site tutorial and understood all the coding and everything i had to do on the tut using the source .fla but the thing is i dont understand what was alraedy dont on the .fla. if you know what i mean, to make it simpler i dont understand what was done before adding all the codes. if anyone can help i would be appreciative thanx

Its a real quickie but I need an answer. My whole site is a single swf ( several scenes etc ) and it's app 4.5 mb. I need to know does it load progressively or does a visitor have to download 4.5mb before seeing anything. At the moment I'm on basic broadband and iI sent it to my server for a test run then opened it up and it loads almost immediately but in Bandwidth profiler testin g it with a 56k modem preference it took ages.

Preloading Full Site In MX
Hi, i am currently designing a small corporate flash website (only 4 pages in total, but with some 3d images)

Each 'page' will be on a seperate scene (is this recommended?), Im not too keen on having each page preload seperately as i want the site to be smooth and flow.

So how could i preload all the content before the site loads to enable a flowing site. And maybe also a few tips on keeping my filesize down.

My other idea was to just preload the main page, have every other page on a seperate swf file and use the loadMovie script. but as i said before this would mean having a preloader to load each section of the site.

Any help or tips on this are greatly appreciated. thanks

i'm in the process of working on my first full flash site in mx. i'm using the gotoandplay function to divide my site into pages, each of which opens with a motion tweened animation. when a page is open and another is selected the open page simply disappears and the new animation begins to bring in the new page. is it possible to attach an animation onto the page which is closing aswell as the openinig page, if so how would i go about doing this. i will attach the .fla to show what i have done so far in case people dont quite understand my question.

I'm making a full flash site the size is 700x500 for the site and it will sit in the middle of a background.

now I want the start of the flash to have a small intro where all the nav bars text areas ect. fly into the site, (nothing really new) now do I just copy the layout and move the parts in before or do i make this another flash file, ??

I am absolutely confused about how to get good search engine optimization with a Flash site!

All I read, from the pros, is that meta tags are not read by the majority (if not all) of the search engines out there any more.

If that is so, how are you supposed to catch a search engine's eye, when the entire site is done in Flash?

Please help me sort this out!

I'm farily new in flash and I know the basics pretty well other then knowing What is the best way to lay out a full flash site? Should you make each page by using scenes or should you just have one long scene and make each page a location on the timeline, or do I make each page it's on swf file? What the best way. Also I would like to make nice transitions inbetween the pages..example would be a swipe or fade out and fade in. Any suggestions for this as well?

Hi I am sort of new to flash I can do basic animation and create flash "pieces" for websites like menus etc.
Now I want to try making an entire web site in flash and my biggest goal in doing so is so when you hit a button it will do an animation of the images/text leaving and the new images/text flying in.

I have an issue. I have a client who wants me to do a newspaper site. I did my research & found that pretty much all news sites are not in flash. Flash is what I am comfortable designing in, it's pretty much all i've done sites in. I know the basics of html, but I pretty much no nothing about css & all the other stuff. Now if I design this site in flash are there any downfalls to doing so? if there are what would they be? Any opinion on what I should do would be greatly appreciated.

Not the best example (but a nice site), but it shows it.

How do they get a full screen animation (I've got a 20" LCD and it animates on the entire thing, but does not scale the text or jpgs) without scaling anything? It really looks good like this - flexible, only full screen if you want it to, no (seemingly) arbitray borders, etc..

I have a small question here. I am making a Flash site, and I've almost got things just about setup like I want, except for one thing. I've got my navigation buttons on there, and they all load external movie clips to bring up the various parts of the site. I want one movie clip to be loaded with the site by default. It's my "home" section of the site.

Can someone give me some sort of code that would call this movie clip everytime the site loads? And hopefully tell me where to insert it. I thought maybe putting a "this.onEnterFrame" function there, but that went to hell..so...

...Any ideas?

Hi all

I am currently producing my new website and I have decided to follow the trend of full browser websites....I have loved these for ages but have always been a little scared of producing one.

I understand how to produce a full screen site but I stumbled across one particular site which offers something I have never seen before.

www.zinkmag.com is a full screen website but as you close the window once the window gets below a certain size dimension the browser scroll bars appear.

Now I have only ever seen full screen websites where if you shrink the window the website just disappears.... can someone please show me a tutorial or something that allows me to do the same as the link above.

im trying to make a site almost fully in flash using various stages. The problem is this: the buttons do not work untill the user clicks the stage. I know it just takes this one extra click to activate a stage, but I want it to be more professional. I know its possible... I mean, what about the advertising banners up on most sites. they only need to be clicked once. if it can't be done with flash I'm willing to learn whatever language is nessasary.(i need all buttons to activate when the site loads)

Hello all,

I'm not very experienced in full screen websites, but i have to do something similar to this: http://www.fairline.com. The site is in full screen but as you resize the browser window, only background image is being resized, all other elements stay the same size, they only change their relative position.
So i don't belive fscommand("fullscreen", "true") would do the trick.
I have no idea how to do that, so any ideas would be very much welcome =)

BTW i'm using AS2.0

well, i have read the tutorial "creating a full flash site" a couple of times.. and if i follow the tutorial i have no problem making the site work. But i have no idea how to do if i want to make my own site from scratch... i mean it's a great tutorial but I still don't know how to make a flash site.
Well i don't knwo what im asking here. But does anybody know another tutorial which takes it from scratch? any help will be appreciated...

Hello all.

I have recently read and am in the process of attempting my first flash site. I have followed the tuturial but am having problems. After I add the action script to the button on my main page and go to preview it I get an error message. The message reads "Error opening URL" then it gives the path to the file. Any answers? I am sure it is something simple that I have overlooked but thought I would ask instead of continueing to bang my head on my PC.

Im pritty new to this forum, I have allready posted this subject...and you kind people helped me out, allthough, when I tryed what you sugested... just linking all your movies together... well it seems that when you get to the 'contact page' it is still the page...like home... and it dosnt layer overtop the first page... the first page text is on top the contact page.... how can i make a new design or whatever all different every time like on www.arctic-cat.com ....

Help With Full Flash Site.
Okay I was following the tutorial. And while the tutorial worked, mine is not. I am running mx on a Mac. I have my home page working the way I want. However, when I go to click to load the next clip in the movie layer, it has an error loading the movie. My script is the same as the tutorial, other than the file names of course. Is there something that I am missing? I have the links as buttons, the movie instance name is "contents", the .swf file is in the same folder as the .fla file I am trying to get to load the .swf file. Please help.....Please!

Im havin a trouble with makin a FULL FLASH site. I set the height and width in the "publish settings" to a 100% and NO SCALE. But then it wont work in Firefox. I heard i gotta add some css. Can anyone help me?

Hi, This is my first post here, though I have been visiting the site for quite some time now, its very helpful to someone like me, trying to learn some Flash on my own.
I need some help with the 'full site' tutorial featured on this site, can anyone help me with this, wld really appreciate it.
I am trying to make a site based on this tutorial, with the load movie action code. I have my 4 buttons that have the load movie action given to them. Problem is, 2 of the external swfs are loading and displaying correctly (in the empty movie clip), but the other 2, the ones with the percentage preloaders in them (the other 2 swfs have no preloaders) are not, all I can see is the % at 0(zero), it seems to be stuck there. This means the movies have loaded, but are not going beyond the preloader?

What cld be wrong? Does anyone know how to fix this?

Just curious, I'm relatively new to flash. I've done a few small banners, but nothing major. I've learned a lot about actionscript and loading swfs externally to build a full flash site. My question is, do you do most of your animations with actionscript, or do you still find yourself using timeline a lot? The timeline just seems so much easier to control everything more precisely.

I'm working on my first full flash site and having trouble getting everything that I want done with actionscript.

I'm starting on my first full flash site and I’m not sure whether to use different scenes for each page, a separate swf file, or just do everything in the main timeline. The tutorial I’m working from shows everything in the main timeline, but it’s a really simple site showing only the basics of this concept. My site will also be relatively simple with only 5 pages, but it has a fairly large image gallery, so I’m not sure if I should follow that model. Any ideas? Any other links to tutorials would also be greatly appreciated!

hello, i am very new to flash and especially flash mx. i am attempting to create a complete flash site but am encountering problems. i have followed the tutorial and everything worked wonderfully creating the site designed by kirupa. but, when i tried to create my own nothing seems to work. I believe my problem has something to do with the navigation menu. I cannot figure out how to import it into the library for my index animation and still be able to edit it and see the various layers. whenever i get it into the library it comes as a complete movie clip and there are no individual layers.. meaning.. i have to redesignate buttons and it still doesn't work... being new to flash i'm sure my problem is something quite simple that i just don't know... but any guidance would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

I've been working on this project for a week or two now, and I'm relatively new to flash and actionscripting, so I'm going to be needing a little bit of help.

In the file, there should be navigation buttons on the left, a title, and a content area. I want to be able to make it so that when a button is clicked, it's state is set to "toggled", and it's animation stops on it's last frame, but when another button is "toggled", the last button to be toggled will revert to it's previous frames.

I also would appreciate if someone could help me make it so that when a button is clicked, the content would fade into view, and when another button is pressed, the content from before could fade out before new content fades in.

I'm sure I've got plenty of problems in the coding or even layer structure as it is, but if someone could help me correct these problems, I'd really appreciate it.
