I'm not a flash/actionscript guru, but I learn a lot from this site and can probably handle up to intermediate levels of technical stuff. I have Flash 5.0, but I'm looking for some tools that will help me make flash banners, buttons and cool text effects quicker and easier, to spice up my websites. I noticed on some of the forums that there seem to be a variety of tools available, I listed them below.

My main question is this; Which tools would you recommend most, also which are most suitable for my use as I mentioned above. Any particular combinations of these that are recommended?

Flash Tools Help.
Hey I really need some help getting the flashtools ftoolapp.exe to work.

I am making a CD ROM that has links to several files on the cd. I have been using ftoolapp.exe to open them like this...

It works for all files .doc/.pdf/etc. but it will not work for Power point files. I use the same setup and get an error from powerpoint that says file not found, the wierd thing is the path it shows to the file is correct?!?!?! Can anyone help? Please.

I currently use Flash 8 and test on browsers Firefox, Safari and IE 6/7.

I have a developer toolbar for HTML and CSS, but wanted to know if it is possible to get something to change the version of flash player in the browser.

Hello again,

I have a very straight forward question this time...

using my CS3 tools, I created a movie clip and then inside this movie clip I added 3 keyframes. In each keyframe I set a different color.

How can I do this (and if it can be done) using only actionscript 2.0 ?!

I basically want to create 3 keyframes in my movieclip's timeline and then edit my movie clip properties in each keyframe.(color or alpha).

All My Tools Are Greyed Out In Flash 8
Like the title says, all my tool panel is grayed out. I can still watch my animations and load my animations an edit them, just without the tools. It happened right after I installed Microsoft Office 2003. Could it have corrupted some files? Please help me because I paid a lot for this and need it for school.

New Flash CS4 3D Tools Don't Disply On Mac
I have a project that my team has worked on and had thought of it as completed. Until the client came back and explained that our online proof wasn't displaying on his mac. We normally check these issues on our end before uploading for client view but we were in a crunch. I'd be happy to email/upload the code to a private area/email address.

Flash Drawing Tools Vs Others...
i'm kind of a newbie at flash but have just completed reading various flash and actionscript books. a question i have though is where do most of you guys really do your vector art from? flash itself or other programs like illustrator. being relatively new to flash i find the drawing tools to be very different from illustrator, which i've been using daily for years and years.

are there any particular benefits to designing directly in flash instead of importing or pasting from illustrator? i plan to use flash for web sites from now on, but am wondering if i should force myself to really get used to the flash drawing tools and try and make that second nature. i REALLY love illustrator though, and am wondering what the benefits, if any, are for not using it for flash. what are your guy's thoughts?

Tools To Get Started With Flash.
HI:

I have a client who wants to put a flash slideshow in a website that she wants me to build for her. So I am starting to look into how to develop Flash files (movies? scripts?).

My question is what kind of tools are required to develop in Flash? Are there any third-party tools available, or do you have to buy the Flash MX that I saw on the macromedia website for $500? I'm assuming that you can't just open up a text editor and start banging out flash code (like I do for HTML).

Any info would be appreciated.

I'm new to Vector drawing and having a hard time with the pen tool in MX 2004. Anyone know of any good tutorials out there on the web for this tool? (the one that comes with flash isn't very good)

I'd like to make a tools tips text as the cursor is over the specific area.

(e.g.) move the cursor over the text for 3 seconds, then the text window pop up. And when move the cursor to other area, that text window get lost.

Newbie On Vector Tools In Flash
It appears that if I draw a shape over another shape in Flash, then move it the second shape cuts a chunk out of the other one. Is there anyway to prevent this without putting everything on different layers? What is the best way to assemble an illustration in Flash, if this is not preventable? I am used to drawing in CorelDRAW and Illustrator, which don't do this as a default. Thanks. - Eric

Animators- Satisfied With Flash Tools?
For those of you animators usin MX 2004 as your medium... Are you satisfied with the drawin tools in Flash? Or do you use a 2nd program to conjure your pictures?

I'm lookin for some more freedom w/ colors and shading and brushes and I'm curious as to what you guys do? I've been inkin my figures in flash as of late, but I draw with a graphics tablet and I want some more out of my tablet rather than having such simple characters. I like to do lots of detail on my characters.

HTML Generation Tools For Flash
Just made a couple new tools for users of Flash, swfobject, expressInstall, and swffit (aka fitflash).

One is just a .html publishing template that can be used to publish the correct html straight from Flash.

The other is a desktop AIR application that allows you to just specify an output directory, then drag and drop a swf file onto a target - the .swf, .html, and .js files will be automatically spit out in the chosen directory..

Not so useful if you don't use swfobject, expressInstall, and swffit - otherwise a nice time saver..

i have seen several flash xml gallery at flashden but they don't have the text effects like horizontal scrolling or color transparency on the text.

any other suggestions? I've been looking for quite some time.

Any Tools To Enhance The Ease Of Use Of Flash MX?

I am always stunned by the power of Flash MX. At the same time, I realize that mastering ActionScript seems the only way to master Flash. Is there any tool available so the designers don't have to be involved in a lot of coding? Like plug in, or exchange? Or any way to increase the Return on Investment and reduce the insensitity of labor? I don't know much about it. If you can give some suggestions, that would help a lot!

I've seen several tutorials that explain each of the tools in Flash 8 so I understand them all completely, however when I go to draw anything it turns out *terrible*.

Are there any tutorials that explain (or show) how to create nice looking objects? (eg. tanks, bullets, etc)

I've taken a look at CartoonSmart.com but judging from the free tutorial I don't think it explains very much. The instructor is very talented at art but only says "do this" instead of why, etc.

Another interesting site is Lynda.com (which I'm thinking about subscribing to), but I'm not sure they teach how to create "nice looking" artwork/graphics....

Tools For Saving Dynamic Flash Websites
hello fellow flash users,

What software do you guys use to save flash websites ? I have used many of them including offline explorer, inquiry, offline commander, flash saver, saveflash, etc.... None of these utilities can deal with dynamically loading .swfs. That is they'll save the initial .swf at a certain url, but cannot save the subsquently dynamically loaded swfs.

Really would appreciate anyone who knows of a better way to save an "ENTIRE" flash website with link translated for offline viewing and archiving.

p.s: the best utility i use ( comes close to saving an entire website with offline link translation ) is offline commander. But this program is no longer being updated as of 2005. therefore it will not load flash 8 or up swfs.

Key Listeners Triggering Flash IDE Tools Instead Of SWF Events
During Test Movie in the Flash CS3 authoring environment, some keys are being trapped by Flash iteself and are not getting passed to my SWF. These are any that are assigned to Tools, like S(Ink Bottle), K (Paint Bucket), P (Pen), etc. The Test Movie SWF is the active window and I've clicked within it. Why are my keys getting trapped by Flash and not the SWF? Keys that are not assigned to Tools are working fine in my SWF.

Any help greatly appreciated. Code snippets attached.

I'm in the final stages of developing an analytics application in flash and wanted to know if there is such a thing?

I know with regular apps and web apps its easier to do.

Tools For Creating Tutorials In Flash Format

I need to create 20-25 very long animated tutorials for new software in Flash format.
Is there a fast of doing this?
I need just to capture screenshots with software interface, mouse movements and insert small boxes with text tips.

I was using a free version of Qarbon ViewletBuilder but our manager doesn't want their banner on the top and is not going to buy a full version - $1000 is too steep.

So, since we already have Macromedia Flash here (nobody used it though) I'd like to know if there is a way to tune-up Flash (perhaps with scripts) to do the same as ViewletBuilder.

Any suggestions?...

I have x items with prices an item Names... etc basic stuff. They have a small shopping cart in flash, basically just an array of data. Upon checkout I wanna open a secure nonFlash page and send POST data of the user's purchase list.

Open-source/3rd-Party Flash/flex Tools
To all and sundry,

First off can some one please provide a list of 3rd party /open-source tools that reasonably emulates the Flash 9 authoring environment and secondly are there any tools out there that can convert from SVG format to Flash 9 (AVM2) native vector format...

I've checked out a few things online at Open Source Flash including SVG2SWF converters but conversion is typically restricted to Flash 8 and below...
