External Video Files
I know this is probabl;y the most simplest question to answer and everyone will shake their heads in disbelief that it is being asked but hey what better way to learn then from experts and quickly too.
I have a flash movie and I have a button that I want to link to an external video mpeg that i have made, I want to play the movie in a windows media player or something so am wondering what code i use or method to link from that buttonin the movie so this player pops up ready to display my movie.

External Video, Can .mov Be Used Or Only FLV Files
For external video, can .mov be used or only FLV files ? I have Quicktime movies that were used in a Director program. I would like to transition these to be used in a Flash app. Or what has to be done ?
Since I have many movies that range in time length from 20 sec to 3 minutes, I am guessing that extrenal is best. I have tried it as is but the published file is blank where the videos elements are supposed to be.

Multiple External Video Files
Ok so here is my question. I would like to create a flash movie player that calls FLVs from an external location (mainly a streaming server), secondly I want it to be able to select from any of the videos (in no specific order).
For instance if I had:
Flash Movie 1
Flash Movie 2
Flash Movie 3
I would want to be able to lets say watch Flash Movie 1 and then Watch Flash Movie 3 and then Flash Movie 2, or whatever other orders there may be.
Thirdly I would like to be able to change the playlist (add/delete) videos from the web page without changing the Flash.
I understand that I may have to go into the Flash file and add one line of Actionscript to call on that file, but I want to try and not do that at all.
Does anyone have any idea how to do this or know of a link or a tutorial where I can find something of this nature.
So I guess I would need a little bit of a skin and be given the ability to to customize a bit.
External/Dynamic/Whatever Video Files Into Flash
I have gone into 1,000,001 different thread trying to find this answer, without success.
I want to make a simple player sort of thing, that will play assorted video files. Click on a thumbnail, the video plays, simple.
The thing is, I don't want to embed all the videos. I want them all to be in a folder, and retrieved from there.
Just like dynamic text and images?? Anyone know??

I would like to create a .FLA that will display video from my portfolio.
There are 3 videos that I would like to present, the sizes of the H.264
Quicktimes are 22.8 MB, 17.1 MB and 4.1 MB.
Should these videos be imported into the .FLA or should they be external
QT files that are linked to from the .SWF? What would work better?

How Do I Load External SWF Video Files Into Main Flash?
Hello,
I need to know how to be able to load external SWF video files into a main flash movie via buttons on the main flash. What I am trying to do is to show video clips in a window on the main flash movie. I know I need to convert the video clips to flash first. Could someone tell me how should I convert them in flash professional 8, then have on the main flash movie different play buttons which can each bring a certain clip to play in a window. I'd like to be able to also allow the viewer to control the audio of each clip, as well as pause the clips, start them over again, etc. I'm just trying to allow my viewers the choice of which clip they want to play into a window on the main flash movie and be able to control them as well. I'd really appreciate it if someone would help me. It's really hard to find a solution anywhere else.

My First Paying Project
I'm not sure how to explain this properly, but I'll try.
I am working on a demo project which has 6 scenes,
-"main,play all,1,2,3,4"
on the main scene I have 5 buttons which link to the 4 sections of the demo movie.
If a user clicks on "play all" it demo simply plays through scenes 1 - 4 then back to main.
but If a user clicks on "1","2","3","4", it only plays that individual scene, until it is finished, then back to "main"
did ya get it?
I think I need an (IF) statement at the end of scenes 1 - 4,
but I'm unsure how to use it properly?

First Paying Job. Need Tips Before It Goes Live.
Ok, so I'm done with my first paying job. I did the website for the place where I work (computer store).
I've learnt alot of things, but I know there has to be some stuff I don't know about / screwed up.
The website is pretty simple.
1. Splash screen page: Company logo, langage selection, copyrights. (index.php)
2. Web page containing the actual site. Site is entirely in flash. So it's basically a loader with a few neat tricks (like .swf resizing). (francais.php or english.php)
2 things worry me.
1. I published the .swf has flash 7 files. Should I tell it to publish in an older version? (there is no complicated action scripting).
2. In firefox everything seems fine, but I've stumbled upon 2 bugs for IE, which I can't recreate. Bug #1, if I click refresh, sometimes the page will simply freeze (saw this 2 times). I can't seem to be able to recreate the bug except on my computer. Bug #2, if I go to the website (not the splash screen, the actual site), and I leave it there for a long period of time (like more than 5 minutes) without doing anything, then come back to it, if I click somewhere, it won't load. Like if I click on a button (that's suppose to load a movie, which is another section), nothing happens.
I would really, really appreciate it if someone with more experience could go to:

and check the source code for both the .php files (the splash screen one named "index.php", and the main page one, "francais.php").
If you need anything, like source .fla, screenshots or more info, please ask
I really don't want to publish something that could be unstable.

I was thinking of buying the complete flash cs3 tutorial cd, but I already know quite a lot about flash and I have already designed a couple of full flash websites, but I what I know was learnt from many different websites and I was hoping to find a complete comprehensive tutorial in flash, is www.learnflash.com a good one? Does any one know better ones for free, or ones that I have to pay for? I am only 15 so please don't get too technical.

Not Paying Attention To Onload
I've worked in Director for ten years. Now, though, I'm doing it in Flash, and I'm lost, a little.
I'm doing a 'normal' corporate presentation. Menu navigation across the top of the screen, a slide show below. The slide content has to be separate from the presentation shell so that it can be revised constantly.
In order to display the menus over the content, and the content over the background, I've attached two movies to the root. The navigation is loaded into one. A succession of external 'content' swfs are loaded into the other, chosen by menu selection in the navigation.
I want to specify which frame of the 'content' swf to display. Not wishing to unload a swf and reload the same one, I coded:

so that, unless the swf needed to be changed, you could skip the onLoad. The subsequent code involves locating the swf to the proper frame, etc. It's the same whether there's a new swf or the same swf loaded into 'grafix'. But if there's a new swf, we gotta wait for the load.
Except we don't.
If the swf has been changed and daSwf doesn't equal daMov, we enter clause 1 of the if statement and we barrel right through it like it wasn't an onLoad statement.
What have I done, and how can I do it right?
Any help would be gratefully accepted.

AS Guru Need For Small Paying (3-D) Project
Hello all! I'm in need, serious need for an Actions Script guru to help me with a small project involving some 3-D work.
On my client site, I have a opening main cube which scales to the upper right corner of the screen, then starts to rotate only left, showind different content per side, 21 sides to be exact.
The problem that I am having is that the file size of two cube are just too big and causes weird preloading issues,where some of the content does not appear.
What I'm looking for is someone to create the main opening cube and the second cube in AS with draw API, which will result in a much smaller file size. You may see the cubes here

Video Playlist - Next Video (FLV Files)
I am trying to create a simple playlist.
Once an external FLV file finishes playing, I would like to automatically load the next external FLV file. The only way I can do this currently is by placing Next and Prev buttons to make the user navigate from video to video, but this option is not automatic. Any ideas?
On a more complicated note... I am trying to create an XML driven Video Playlist. (For examples see AOL's top 11 http://music.aol.com/top11/ or MTV's Overdrive http://www.mtv.com/overdrive/).

I have loaded a video using NetStream/Net Connection, etc. I am able to control it by creating my own buttons, but I'd like to just attached the standard FLV Playback components. Is there a way for me to do that?

Hello Flash-Kit community. I've been a lurker for some time so in thanks for all the help, here is my first script that actually does something. If you have any suggestions or improvements, I'd be very happy to hear about them. I've tried to add clear comments throughout.
To use this script, create two movie clips, one will be the mask and the other will be the clip that will show through.
Create 3 layers named action, mask, clip. Put your mask movieclip in frame 1 of the mask layer, put your image movieclip in frame 1 of the clip layer and add a keyframe in frame 3 of the action layer and put the script in frame 3.
Name the movie clip instances and put their names in the script. It should allow you to scroll right and left, up and down by hovering over the masked image.
The questions I still have are: Is it more efficient to call the object properties "on the fly" or to create a variable and call the variable? Are there ways to get this running without doing the gotoandplay frame 2? Could I attach this to the mask itself and make the code simpler? I was also looking for a way to archive this in Flash something like the snippet window in Dreamweaver. Can I make this more efficient using functions?
Anyway, I'm pretty chuffed that it works with any size of mask mc or image mc.

Targeting External Files To Text Files In Flash

I am developing a flash site for a movie company and it needs to be 100% dynamic! and must be flash 5 compatible
To put things as simply as I can here goes.
I have a directors page - on this page I have two text fields.
The first text field pulls all the directors names from an external file called directors.html, In this external file I have html hyperlinks which link to each directors bio text (in another external text file), what I want to do is basically target the second text field in flash. i.e. when you are in flash and click one of the directors names his info must appear in the adjacent text field.

Loading External Text Files With Links To .swf Files
i am loading a external text file with html links. I would like to know if anyone out there know how to make those links load .swf files, that would work with the levels hierarchy of the original level0 file. I tried passing a variable that would be detected by a movie clip on EnterFrame but no success, maybe I had written something wrong. Loading just the swf file will replace the html page on the browser.
Multiple External Text .txt Files In Different Swf Files
I'm trying to have several external files (txt or html) attached to a several swf flash files, loading in different levels of one main movie, for easy updating.
Example is: loadVariablesNum("ext-track.txt", 0);
This I can do, partly working.
Say you click the button for "about" that loads that flash file (in a layer), it fails to load in the relevant external file (the movie loads just not the external text file).
When you open up the "about.swf" on its own, it loads up the external file no problem. It just fails to do it when I am loading it from the main swf movie file that then loads this in a layer.
I can get all the text files working by putting in all the loadVariable parts in the main movie but I need them put into their relevant swf movies.
Does that make sense?
How do you correct, something to do with layers or targetting? I'm sure it'll be easy for you guys, Actionscript ain't my thing.

FLASH - Flv Files & Importing External Files
Note: this is trying to be done all in Flash... please be patient as I have to explain it...
Here's the scenario... I am currently building a website for a coffee company, and as an introduction to their website, they want to play a short clip of 16 seconds, size 350x250 - fine... The real problem is that I have been asked to make it appear as if it was actual footage on TV - in effect, at super high quality with NO (and I mean, NO) Pixelation... very stringent, but they think I can somehow push the boundaries and work something out!! Also they wish for it to play as soon as the website begins (no chance of preloading!!) - without an option for the user to control the film (as in no play/stop/rew buttons, etc.)
In order to create this, I had to use Final Cut Pro - as this was the only program that passed the 'test' for what was asked... the client has a major issue with the 'fade' to black sections of the film - believing them to look as if they are shimmering (this also being the initial problem with building it directly in Flash). I passed this through all types of compression to achieve the smallest possible file (12MG) - and then from Quick Time Pro - I came up with an immaculate looking, but incredibly large flv file - using the export feature. Total... 82MB, yes MB...
Please note, I am fully aware of compression, but have to iterate this incredible request!!
Rather than attach it to the timeline in Flash, I placed the created FLV file in the same folder and requested on the first line of the timeline - through Actionscript - that it plays the FLV 'progressively'. To my understanding, this file should play whilst not having to load up before hand... (learnt of this from Macromedia website.)
I have seen this method used in a few tutorials, but admittedly the file sizes are approximately 5MB...
After uploading the file (took over an hour), I tested the film and it began to play extremely slow and choppy. After 16 seconds (the expected duration of the clip) the next scene in the timeline began !! The film had actually only progressed about 3 seconds into itself....
I don't think I am necessarily doing much wrong as it is the best solution that I could come up with in terms of keeping the final 'SWF' file to a minimum size so a user will not have to wait it to load up (got Flash files to 24MB - but still too long to load up!!!)
Can anyone think of an alternative method to playing an 82 MB file, or is this just plain ridiculous??
I am at a loss because I am still curious to see if this is actually feasible... if so then maybe you will help me push the boundaries of Internet viewing!!!

[F8] External Text Files Wont Load Into External Swf File...
Hi,
I'm making a Flash website in Flash 8 (mac).
Structure: There is 1 main file that loads external SWF files depending on what is clicked on.
One of the external SWF files loads its text from external text files. This works fine when viewing the SWF applet on its own. But when viewing as a whole site, the text doesnt appear. Very annoying.
I made that particular SWF on my mums computer running Flash MX 2004. The flash file itself uses the Scrollbar component from MX.
Could someone tell me why the text doesnt load in this scenario? It runs fine on its own, just not as an external SWF.

Loading External Html Files With External Css Please Help

I'm new to this forum and new to ActionScript. I have not worked on AS1 or AS2 before so I just got started on AS3.
I'm trying to learn ActionScript 3 and I started experimenting with ideas and workinf examples.
What I'm trying to achieve is a website where the content shown is from external HTML files and external CSS.
My code was working up until trying loading the CSS. The error that I'm getting is "Call to a possibly undefined method URLLoader"

Loading External Files Within External File
Is there a way to load an external file from within an already loaded external file?
Example:
I want to do a section devoted to blog entries. So, I was wanting to externally load the dated references in one textbox on the right side, and when the user clicks on one date, it loads the referenced text file into the larger box next to it.
Any ideas of how to accomplish this?

If I import a WMV file in MX and export the swf as flash 5 version, will people still need to download flash 6 to view it?

So I want to publish an exe. file (with swf. videos,) from a fla. but do not want to import the videos into the fla. Just have them load from another folder.
What is the best way to do this. I have the video file names in the "videoTitlesArrayString " line of code,
but can't get them to play when told to load?

Does anyone know of a good way of reducing video files sizes? Or do I have to use stuff like Wildform's Flix? Are there any quicker and cheaper ways of using video footage in Flash?

Large Video Files
finally...i'm using MX rather than 5.
I used Flix with 5 to use video, and if the video files were large (like bigger than 20 megs - it's for a CD, not internet), there were often playback issues on some computers. Is this still an issue with MX? If i use a large amount of video should I still go with Director or is MX okay for large amounts of video with decent computers?
Very Large Video Files
I'm currently doing a cd presentation with flash (I know i should have do it with director, but it's not my fault)
and there are two video files to embed. Know my problem is that the second one is very large (the flv is about 20MB) and it takes really long before it starts. It put the flv in an external swf and load it via loadMovie. The compression was done in squeeze. Now the question: are there any ways to avoid such long loading times? The swf should stream the file, but somehow it loads about 20-25 seconds before the video shows up.

Does MX 2004 handle mpeg, wmv, avi, mov files. Can you import them directly into the program or do you have to go to MX 2004 Professional to get this option.
Do you require Sorensen to do the coversion?
Also if you create some swf files within Professional can you compile them in MX 2004?

Whats the best program to capture digital video to create .flv's for my Flash site?
I've been trying to capture with Premiere 6.5 but It keeps crashing.
Windows Movie Maker doesn't export uncompressed video.

Streaming Video Files
There is a webpage(http://www.fabtechmotorsports.com/html/intro.html)that displays video inside of and html page and I'm wondering if anyone could tell me how this was done. I've been looking into the Flash video kit which is good but I don't need the controller just the video. I'm new to this forum and would appreciate any help I can get.

SWF Video Files In PDFs
This PDF on Adobe's website has embedded flash videos. Interesting thing is they seem to be overlapping the text and images.

Any idea how they did this? I have found only one doc on the net that gave some instruction on placing swf files in an Indesign doc and then exporting to PDF. But I am curious as to how they did the knocked out background & seemingly invisible bounding box for the swf.
Any ideas?

Importing Video Files
I made a Flash at 18fps, I added a sound file to it, simple enough.
I imported an .avi file, which also ran at 18fps. I figured that the sound and the video would sync up, with them both running at the same speed, but for some reason the imported video played much faster than the sound file. The sound file was at the correct speed
Can anyone enlighten me as to why?
