When tested, the code seems to be alright. However when attempting to execute it appears that it tries to do something (the hard drive light starts to run), but then returns with an error saying it could not open the web site page.

Can anyone help me with this mystery, as I would like to get this button functioning by this weekend, since they are doing a fund raiser for animal orphanages, and we're passing out flyers for the web site.

Direct Link To Scene In Flash
I am working with someone's old Flash file which is a site composed in multiple scenes. However, I have run into a problem where we need to actually control the entry of the site.

I want to be able to send a user directly to a specific part of the site, i.e. the "About Page" or "Client 1 Page".

I would like to use a simple variable passing through HTML, (testing_url.com/?page=client&Name=Mercedes) to direct the swf movie, though I am not sure how I would setup the Actionscript within the Flash Movie.

I am not a complete beginner in Flash, but i am very new to this area i am about to enter.

I want to create a user account section on my site, which will store their recent purchases etc (the shopping section i will create later on, but want to make this bit very compatible) and some information about themselves.

The first question is: Do designers create these custom databases for themselves? Or do they usually use other peoples software and alter it? If so, do you have any recommendations?

And my main question is, how can i get started on this? I'm not sure what coding to use or anything? From googling i think i might need to use php and mysql?? Does anyone remember how they got started on this? where shall i read up on tutorials?

I want to build it up from a very solid foundation so that it can expand and not create problems in the future. Also the ability to be able to read the data of the user and enter it into forms they will fill out is essential.

Direct Swf Link Preloader Problem?
I am trying to create a preloader for a swf file. The preloader works great when I go to an HTML file that call’s the swf file. But I want to link directly to the swf file.
“getURL("somefile.swf", _blank);”

The problem is when I do that the preloader does not work. (the window is just blank until the swf file loads completely and then it plays)

Is there a way to get the preloader to work?

Using GetURL For A Direct Path Link.
I am having issues with linking to a page that I know will be in a specific place on the hard drive. My application is a training app and we have instructions to tell the school exactly where to place the technical manual. My app, though, needed to use ASP so it is in the IIS folder while the tech manual is not.
The app is located at: C:inetpubwwwrootimi and the manual page is at C:ietmindex.htm

So I've tried using the following for the link in Flash:

But when I click this link, it doesn't do anything.

Video Player: Direct Link
Hi,

I have created a video player based off of Lees tutorials, and is not much different then his final output. What I am looking to do though is somehow be able to link to each video directly.

The way that I am thinking of in my head is to add an attribute to each video in the xml file. Then, lets say you want to link to the video with the code '0001', you would just add it to the end of the url, as such: http://www.website.com/playerlocation/0001

I have seen some other applications use something along the lines of this, but I cannot seem to find what the process is called, or any tutorials showing how to do it.

Our website consists of a main movie and various external movies that are loaded within the main movie depending on the button actions (f.e. products).

Is it possible to direct a viewer, who clicks a link in a email, directly to the sequence where the external movie is loaded within the main movie, without the use of anchor tags (seems only to work with IE)

F.E. in our products section, when you click the first image to the right (Ovidias Cans), the ovidias movie is loaded. Flash On Limited OS X Account?
Im at school right now, and every time i open flash, i just see the main tool bar, and no blank flash file. Once i create a blank flash file, the tool bar disapears, so i go to windows > panel sets but once i click the Windows bar i get an "internal application error". Everything seems to be fine after that, but whenever i try to add a tween or change the babckground colour, etc. the panel at the bottom with those controls doesnt update! ahh! and whenever i try to open a saved file, (for some reason it asks me to open it twice), it opens a a window, but its all gray and you cant see or do anything with the document.

i am on Mac OS X on a limited account. there are no problems with flash on an admin account.

btw my computer is the only one in the room with this problem

HELP Needed For FLASH In User Account
I have XP Professional with an Administrative and two User accounts.

All what I and my wife want - is to be able to use our separate User accounts for ordinary simple tasks like, for example, going to a necessary WEB page.

Sometimes we are lucky to do it, but very often we can NOT, because there is FLASH,

Let me give an example. I am interested what a local (Athens, GA) HONDA dealer has to offer, and want to open its WEB site. - O.K. - I open GOOGLE and find the necessary link to Athens, GA HONDA.

I click on this link, but instead of HONDA site there appears a message “You do not have the latest FLASH. Why not to install it now?� No problem, I have nothing against FLASH, but it can NOT be installed in a User account.

No problem. I go to our Administrative account and easily install the latest FLASH version #10. To be sure that everything will work fine I restart the computer.

Joyfully I return to my User account and “woe is me� FLASH still does NOT let me to reach HONDA and gives me instead the same invitation for upgrading as before.

Please help me either to “tame� this FLASH so that it would not mix with my computer steps, or to let it be properly active in my User accounts.

Please, also, keep in mind that I am one of those millions of “dummies� who just know only how to click a mouse and what is a difference between a file and a folder.

Adding A Link To A Flash Site
I am a relatively new flash user and I have been encountering a problem trying to add a link to my site. When I test my site within flash the link comes up with no problem, but when I publish it and try to click on the link I get a message saying that macromedia has stopped an unsafe operation. Is there any way to link to an external URL from your flash site without having the flashplayer prompt you to change your settings and allow access to that page? (this only applies to swfs viewed through a browser)
the only way around this i've found isn't very useful - you have to put a small xml file on the host server where the page you want to link to is located. i seriously doubt every site you want to link to will allow you to put an xml file on their host server just so you can link to their page. the code in the xml file just tells flashplayer that the site you are trying to access is safe. it's called crossdomain.xml

Is it possible to provide the equivalent of a URL link into sub pages within a flash site? For example I would give someone the link www.example.com/section/help.html if I wanted them to go directly to my help page from a pure html site. With my current understanding, form a pure flash site, the user would have to navigate through a series of buttons to get to my sub flash page.

I was thinking about placing some kind of script in the index.html that when selected would jump the user to some sub section of my site (mimic a series of button selection). I have no idea on how to even go about attempting this.

Is there a recommend approach to solving this type of problem and perhaps some example code?

Sending Forms In Flash To Email Account
Sorry if this is a dumb question, very new to building websites in flash. Is there any way to simply send a form to an email account? I have created my form using the text input component and have my submit button, but can't find a tutorial on how to send the data to my email, only php and database stuff
