How can we do a local files browser in Flash application ?

I want the user could browse the files of his local computer Windows (like with Windows Explorer), select a jpeg file so that the image is then include in the Flash animation.

The action getURL("") open a browser but the file jpeg selected with this browser is not include in the flash application.
Must we associate this action with a loadMovie() and how ?

SWF Files And Browser Cache
Hi,

I make very simple flash banners for my website announcing updates. I keep the filename the same, so when it's updated, anyone who has my banner on their site does not have to re-arrange their HTML code.

The problem is that when I replace the old SWF file with the new one, my browser keeps the old file in cache. Even a Shift+F5 (forced refresh in Mozilla) does not refresh the SWF file like it does with JPG, PNG and GIF files. This leads me to believe that people int he general public are not always seeing the most recent SWF from my site.

My question is if there is a setting I could place in the actionscript or the embed/object HTML code that would specify whether or not to chache the SWF.

Displaying Files On A Browser
Hi

I have a menu that loads external jpgs, it used to work fine when clicking on the actual swf or when was view on a browser, but I think that around the time I update to flash player 8, the menu stop displaying the external images, when being view through a html browser, I have tried already with Mozilla and IE.

My wild guess is that flash player 8 or windows xp has some new security that is stopping my external jpgs from loading when view through the internet.

What could be causing the jpg from loading into the menu when view through an html browser and what can I do to fix this?

is there anyway to download a file on the web, from a flash exe ?

under normal circumstances, a simple getURL can open a browser window,
and point to a file to download.
i do NOT want to do this.

can a file be downloaded without any noticable interaction from a browser?

Swf Files Don't Print From Browser On OS X
Everytime I try to print a swf file from a web page using Safari, IE, or Firefox on OS X, they show up blank. Am I missing something? This has happened with 3 other people I've asked. And I can't find a reason why swf files can't be printed from the Mac OS X. And there doesn't seem to be any info on it. Very strange.

Why Don't .swf Files Seem To Cache On A Browser?
I'm using Safari on Mac OS X 10. I've got a 3 mb .swf on a web page. It seems that if I hit a "refresh" on the browser, it loads the whole thing from the beginning, with the progress bar and everything. I don't have anything set to clear the cache as far as I know. Is this normal?

What I'm trying to do is have a movie that shows a bunch of operating screens from some software as different frames that you can navigate to, like a virtual version of the software. I had hoped that once the user had already loaded the movie, that i could provide URLs (in other web pages) that link directly to various pages of the movie using FlashVars. This works sort of, but it reloads the entire movie from the beginning with each different URL. Is there some way to keep the movie in memory so that this doesn't need to happen?

This is probably the most stupid question and i'm brand new to Flash....when i want to view what i've created in flash in a browser i don't see anything....i did make sure that the file was published to html but still nothing ....what could be the problem...thanks

Dowloading Files Without Opening The Browser

I want to do a Projector where people can download files (images .gif, .ai, .jpg...) whitout opening the browser (explorer or Netscape). I tried to zip it but it still open the browser. Is there anyone know how to set it in Flash 5.0?

Scalable Swf Files In A Window Browser
I 'm sure I saw somewhere a thread talking about scaling movies... or something along those lines....

Well I don't know if this is possible, but is there anyway of creating an swf file which, when published as a website (or new window to a website) scales with the window (when you drag the corner or maximise).

When the window is small (or viewed on a small monitor) some of the page is hidden and you have to use the scroll bars.

So going back to my question, can I make the file scalable?
All feedback would be good, even if it's "don't be ridiculous", or "it needs to be done in html". I'm about to undertake a proper website and html course, but at the moment just winging it.

About Flash And Browser Cache Files
Another question... we all know that your web browser caches all the things you see on the web... pages, images, and FLASH MOVIES. So, if i had a flash movie on the web, viewing the movie will just be the same as downloading it, you just have to get it form your cache folder and copy it to another folder.

My question is this... what if the movie loads another movie dynamically? will the other movie also be cached?

Loading External .asp Files In Same Browser As F

I created a flash intro and a main navigation page for a client. Another company she hired produced all of the sub pages in an .asp format. I used the getUrl to call up the subpages from the main menu buttons in flash. The .asp pages are accessed, but they are opening in individual browsers.

How do I get these pages to load in the same browser that the Flash doc loads in?

Swf Files From Server Won't Show In Browser Properly
Ok. I'm trying to do my 1st flash site. When i publish preview and select the flash option, it looks great. The exact fit works good. Also, in internet explorer, if i open the swf file directly from my desktop, it looks perfect, just how i want it to. The resize window works too.

But when i transfer the swf file to my web hosting server using dreamweaver, and then try to access the file on internet explorer, all i get is a bunch of weird text. The swf file will not display. Why is this?

I tried the HTML method, publishin a HTML page with the flash inside. However when i do this, the exact fit and resize thing doesn't work in the browser anymore. It just shows directly at the top of the page, and if the window isn't big enuf, then part of the movie is cut off. It won't resize.

How can i make the swf file show properly after tranfering to my server? Here is the link to the swf file:

Problem With Txt Files Not Updating And Browser Cache
Hi,

I have a flash movie which calls a txt file as the source of its content. I update these text files via a PHP script. This all works fine. However, heres the problem: When viewing the HTML file that contains the flash you can see the txt file content where it should be. But, if I leave the site and the text file is updated and then i return to the site, it is still loading the old text file content.

This appears to be a browser cache problem but i have tried using <meta HTTP-EQUIV="Pragma" CONTENT="no-cache"> and also closing all my browsers, deleting temp internet files and going to the URL again but the problem persists. I am pretty stuck and frustrated with this so any help is appreciated a lot!

Browser Windows Not Coming To Front Of .swf Files?
Hello!
I am creating a .swf file to burn onto a CD that has links that open browser windows that access certain urls. On the initial button, the browser comes to the front of the .swf file just fine. Then I resume my movie and the browser moves to the back of the .swf. On the second button, the browser no longer moves to the front of the .swf but continues to run BEHIND it.

Is there any actionscript I can use to make sure the browser window jumps to the front of the .swf file?

(NOTE: this seems to work fine on macs but not on pc's)

Dynamically Loaded JPG Files Do Not Load In AOL Browser
AOL recompresses dynamically loaded images to the .art format which Flash cannot load giving the AOL user no images (unless they have disabled image compression). Macromedia says to change the server MIME type for jpgs to binary. (http://www.macromedia.com/support/fl...jpg_to_art.htm *see below)

Has anyone done this?
Are their any unanticipated side effects on other browsers?

Reason
AOL automatically converts JPG images to ART files for a faster download. Flash is expecting a JPG file but does not find one because the browser interprets the file as an ART file, causing the JPG to not load in Flash.

Solution
Setting the MIME type of JPG files to generic binary MIME type on the server will address this issue. Consult your web server documentation information about adding or modifying the MIME type for JPG files. If using an ISP, refer them to this document so they can make the necessary changes.

I don't know why exactly but when I load another swf within my main movie sometimes it fills the browser window and sometimes it doesn't!

Anyone know how to make it happen everytime?

External .swf Files Wont Sync In Browser
I have multiple .swf files loading into a main .swf. One contains a video, another contains text and animations...they sync fine when I play them in the flash player on my computer, but the video.swf gets ahead of the animations.swf when they play in a web browser..

They are both set to 24fps, the .swf containing the progressive .flv seems to play fine, while the animation .swf file in the background clearly lags when it's played in the browser (tweens aren't smooth, sync gets off).

Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks.

Basically, I want certain .swf files to be cached to the users browser when the main page loads, so the files are ready when the user starts to navigate the rest of the site.

Browser Problems Loading External Files
I think I've seen something about this before, but I can't remember...
I am loading an XML file into my SWF:

ActionScript Code:
xNav.load("nav.xml");

The XML file is in the same directory as the SWF, the page it is embedded into is also in the directory.

It works in most browsers including Netscape7.1, but NOT in Netscape7.0.

I am using frames also.

I've heard that different browsers reference the external files differently.. from the embedded page.. from the SWF. Does anyone know the differences for the different browsers? - or is this a frames issue?

Can Projector Files Launch Sized Browser Windows?

I'm using flash to generate projector files.

Right now, with using GetURL, I can open up a quicktime video in a browser window.

However, if I try to specifiy height and width, I can't.

If I were to use the HTML file, it's fine, but it just won't work on the projector file.

The script in flash GetURL is:

I'm trying to get this done for a simple cdrom that needs to be automatically launched.

[MX04] Can't Load Flash Files Directly From Browser
I'm really new here, so I don't know where to post my problem. I'm posting it here just in case.

I can't open Flash files in my Maxthon Internet Browser... I just installed Flash MX 2004 (with an update to 7.02) in my PC due to a reformat. Embedded Flash files in a webpage work fine, but when I try opening them directly (I mean typing the URL of the file <example: http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d121/vytalibus/Hitorijime.swf>), they don't load!

I don't think my browser is the problem. I tried using IE as my browser, but the same problem came up. I concluded that there's something wrong with Flash.

And the silly thing is: Flash files saved on my computer DON'T LOAD IN MY BROWSER. However, they play when I open the files.

Help! I'm using Windows XP.

Remove .SWF From Temporary Internet Files Upon Browser Exit
INTENTION: I would like to use Flash for my main navigation, as opposed to using CSS, pixel-based images and templates/library items in Dreamweaver. 1) Vector based images look great and can be transformed to any size without losing quality and 2) it would make it easier if update the entire site if all I had to do was replace/override one file as opposed to making a change to a template/library item, which would then require me to re-upload every page that utilized that template/library item.

PROBLEM: SWF files are typically stored and save locally to a user's temporary internet files. If a SWF is updated/replaced without renaming and the user re-visits the site, because the SWF may already be saved to temporary internet files, he/she may not be seeing the most up-to-date version. So my question: is there a way to remove a particular SWF or all SWFs on a page automatically once a user closes out his/her browser or navigates away from the page?

Update Browser Check Files For Old Dreamweaver Version?
I'm still using Dreamweaver MX 2004, because my school hasn't upgraded its free (VPN-tied) options, and I can't afford to buy an updated version myself.

Unfortunately, the "Target Browser Check" only goes up through IE6, and has "Mozilla 1.0" but no Firefox.

Does anybody know if there is a way to update the files that Dreamweaver uses for its CSS/HTML browser check, without buying a new version?

Linking .Projector Files Hangs Browser Window - Expert Please Help
Here's my problem (well, one of them at least =):

I'm trying to link five .Projector files to run in a continuos loop. Depending on the Mac, they will link successfully, but after playing about 3 or 4 of them, at the end of one (not always the same one), a blank browser window will hang saying it's retreiving data from the file that just played.

Each file starts with an FS command to make it fullscale:

fscommand ("allowscale", "false");
fscommand ("fullscreen", "true");

And then a loader which works fine on it's own:

ifFrameLoaded (_totalframes) {
gotoAndPlay (3);
}

What Do I Do To Allow My Files To Auto Adjust To The Size Of The Html Browser Window?
How do I allowscale of my .swf file when I embed the file in my html file for the browser window? I've tried using the FScommand "allowscale","fullscreen" and so on, but I'm lost on this one guys. What do I do to allow my files to auto adjust to the size of the html browser window?

Netscape Browser Not Seeing Shared Object Or Accessing C:/Program Files

I have a password protected file (swf inside an html) that uses a shared object. It works great on IE but not on Netscape.
Can anyone help?
I tried also on Mozilla firefox and it picks up the shared object but reduces all my swf files int he html down to a very small size (even thou I put 100% in the HTML code width/height!!).

I am about to try on Opera and then the mozilla ordinary version in a mo and hoped that it is a simple html issue but thinking its more than that for the shared object side of things....

can anybody shine any light on any of these?

Flix SWF Video Files Dont Work In Mozilla Firefox Browser

The sample flix SWF video file for that tutorial does not work in the Firefox browser, but it works fine when I visit the tutorial page in IE. Is something set wrong with my Firefox browser, or is there a big problem with the flix video SWF format in Firefox? I am interested in using this technology, but it is useless to me if it doesn't work in all browsers. I would appreciate any help you could offer, Thanks!

Opening Flash Files In Browser With No Scrolls And Doesn't Resize When Made Smaller

When you resize the window there are no scroll bars and the screen doesn't resize to fit the flash file.

The flash file stays the same size always at full window size. There almost appears to be a seperate layer that moves underneath when the browser window is made smaller. How do you acomplish this in Flash. Usually when a flash file is embedded in an html, scroll bars appear when you resize the browser window past the embedded flash file, or a .swf file gets smaller when you make the browser window smaller. This website shows otherwise!

Importing External Files: Preview And Browser Works, But It Doesn't Work With Player
Basically, when I import external .swf files or .xml files, I can usually see them perfectly fine in browsers and in preview windows. But when I try to run them separately using Flash Player, it doesn't show them at all.

Is there something simple I could be overlooking that is causing this? Or is there something wrong with my Flash Player?

The program I use is Flash MX Pro, and my Flash player is Flash Player 6. I've tried updating my Player using Macromedia.com, but I have a feeling that it's only updating the browser plug-ins and not the player itself.

It's not really a problem, but if it's something that will cause a certain percentage of people to not be able to see my stuff, it could be a potential problem.

I got some movies, which are seperate FLA. files, and I want to eventually add all these 4 seperate files, into scenes in one main FLA. file. How do I do this so that I have the symbols ect. I am pretty sure you can't just copy/paste.

Full Browser Movie, But Use Browser Scrollbar When Needed
Is there any way to make a full browser swf that, at a certain point, stops scaling to the stage and allows the browser to use it's native scrollbars?

For example, say my flash site has a top bar (it's y is always 0) and a bottom bar (it's y might be stageHeight - 15). Is there any way to tell the movie to stop scaling if the bottom bar's y is less than say 300, and from that point have the browser display it's scrollbars allowing you to scroll the content?

Where To Get New Browser Profiles For Browser Compat Checks?
Does anybody know where I can get updated browser profiles for the browser compatibility check tool ("target browsers") in Dreamweaver MX 2004? My current list only goes up to IE 6 and Mozilla 1. I've looked around on the Adobe website and can't find anything, even in the Exchanges.
