How can I control content in the original window of a pop-up site?

I was wondering if anyone can help me with this one: I am building a pop-up site and I would like some of the links to open in the original window (that was used to load the new pop-up). I assume this is a combination of javascript and action script.

Close Flashwindow And Go To Original Html Site
Hello.
I have a flash-banner in a html-page.
When I click the banner, a popup window opens and a new flash-animation begins.
When the animation is finished, there is a button to click.

Now, here is my question: what actionscript shall I use on that button to
- close animation
- go back to a certain html-page (mainframe) in the html-site where that first banner is placed??

Is it possible to solve this problem???

Links On Php Site
I am loading links from an xml file into a text field. These links work on an aspx page, but not a php wordpress page. On the php page, the cursor changes to a hand, and you can right-click to load the links, but they will not load by clicking on them. Any help is appreciated...thanks.

I have a .swf embedded in an HTML file that resides here, siteroot/flashindex.htm..the .swf is here, siteroot/swf.swf and in it there is text that links to here, News/FlashNewsIndex.htm and here, flashindex.htm and the links work fine. The .swf embedded in the latter HTML file residing here, siteroot/swf1.swf also has text links that point to here, News/FlashNewsIndex.htm and flashindex.htm but when clicking either, it doesn't find the file it points to. Is this a site relative thing..? Appreciate any thoughts on this. cheers.

Moving Site To New Location But Always Looks At Old Links
I have made a site in dreamweaver with a flash navigation bar.
Clicking on a button in the flash nav bar loads a new html page below it.
However, when I transfered the whole thing from my drive to the internet the buttons were still looking on my hard drive for the pages.
(macintoshHD/users/jennie/sites/olympus/home.html).

I had to go back into Flash and re-do all the links to correspond to the web site address: (www.olympus-automation.co.uk/home.html)

This was fine, but now the client wants to put the site on all his salesman's PDA's but of course the PDA is now looking for the files on the Internet even though they're all stored in it's memory.

Is there any way of making the files work in the same way that Dreamweaver does? Dreamweaver is intelligent enough to figure out that when you move a site to a new location, all the relevant files have moved with it....

Any help would be appreciated as I'm in the brown sticky stuff - big time!

Web Site Links As External SWFs
I want one animation of a content area but i want the menu to run the animation and put in a certain .swf so i can have something like:
when u click a button that is suposed to goto Home then it plays a MC that has Home as an external .swf loaded into it and when i click another link like Portfolio it starts that MC over but with Portfolio as an external .swf in it

That can be done right? if so plz help me

Help Changing Flash Links In Server Site
Hi, I'm new here and trust you'll help.

Here's a problem that many of you might now how to go about and solve.
I created a swf movie (4 actually) with buttons that when pressed bring different static images. That works alright local and in the server. The images in this menu are linked to another swf file. These are little animations that come up in a parent window, some are QT movies. These also work fine in local, but not on the server site, message is NOT FOUND or ERROR 404.
Someone suggested to change the links in the server site to absolute. I have 24 images with links! and this means opening the first movie, and changing the get URL in everyone of them.
My assupmtion is this: If I go and change the links to absolute, say http://www.server.com/folder/name.swf instead of /name.swf as it is, the copy in my hardrive won't work. Is this correct? How can I have 2 copies, one for me, one for the server? This is unsound to me. Therefore, there must be another way to do it and I'm sure you have heard or gone through the same before, and can help me. Help me if you please, He-e-e-e-lp me, Heeeeelp.... meeeeeee.!!!(sound)

im designing a webpage with dreamweaver 4.0 where im using site-relative links in flash buttons but the links dont work although i have the .swf and .html files in the same folder.

[F8] Flash Floating On Top Of Site Hides Links Below
Using Flash 8 ...

In a website where I've created a 30 second Flash .swf that floats above the site using

div align="center" style="position: absolute; top: 0px; width: 100%; margin: 0px auto;"

I've found that even after the video is done playing and the .swf is nothing but a blank, transparent file, it still prevents the viewer from clicking on anything that's a link beneath it, as if it's a clear piece of glass blocking access.

The flash file itself is quite simple, a single frame that calls in an external .flv

Is there ActionScript that can clear the movie away so that the links beneath are accessible once the movie is done? I believe there might be a JavaScript solution to this, but (without getting into the entire nature of the project here) adding a lot of JavaScript to the client's page isn't an ideal solution.

I'm not terribly familiar with how event listeners work, but am hoping there's some way there can be a listener that checks when the movie is done and then clears things away so that the links below are clickable.

Absolute Links To Parts Of Flash Site
This is basically similar to a "back" button functionality in a flash site. But what we really want our site to do, is to be able to assign webaddresses to parts of our flash site. That way, Flash can read in the variables and then tell the flash program to animate to that portion of the site.

Right now our site is:
www.haleypro.com

We would like to be able to say:
www.haleypro.com/?page=studiotour
Then, if someone goes to that link, the flash site will load, with the variable set, and the animation will immediately trigger to the studio tour part of our site.

Now, we already have a system that allows us to pick pages out of our site. I was just not really sure how we should setup the variable read ins. Should it be a function that checks for the variable's value, if not equal to undefined then tell it to animate? We are using ASP for our database structure of our site. Flash Site News Slide Show With Links
Hello,

I am developing a site news slide show. Each slide is a movie clip with links within it. The slide show should loop automatically and each movie clip will come up on the screen waits for 10 seconds and loops again. In addition my movie clip has bulletted links at the bottom to other movie clips, so if user wants to go to particular mc then they will click on list and movie clip should slide to clicked one and wait for 10 seconds and loop again.

I am using the tranistion effect by downloading the Mctween plugin from following website:

Links In Scrolling Text - Reference Other Elements Of Site
I have a scrolling text area... within this are there are a few words that need to link to the movie itself.

I have managed to create the invisible buttons that have the correct area to link to. but...

I have tried making a layer in the scrolling text layer - the button shows that its active but noithing happens when released..

I have also tried inserting the links under the masked area and above the text - this works - but the link areas do not move with the text as it scrolls.

I just need the link area to move with the text and I am set

Does anyone have a solution to this?

Links Back To Our Site Don't Work When Player Is Embedded On Other Sites

My site is www.comicwonder.com. It's a pretty fun site. Anyways, people can embed our player like YouTube etc. For some reason, though, any links back to our site (like the logo, the joke name, etc.) don't work. The do work within ours?

I am a newbie and really need help! I have posted a site all in flash and have some serious issues with it!

1. my links on the last scene do not work and I have followed the book precisely.They go to newspapers.

2. the contact button on the nav bar on all the scenes (email link) does not work properly: it opens up to a cannot display page and then the microsoft outlookout window opens up with the email address.

3. The site opens up to be very small and not the size I intended.

4. I have 2 scrolling text boxes on 2 diff scenes. one is fine but the other opens up with a level thing (_.10level)and then the text I want loads in, how can I fix that?

Graphic Links Or Text Links On Your Index Page?
The search engines recommend text links obviously.

Is anyone here doing ok with Google using graphics links (graphic buttons etc) as opposed to plain clickable text links on their index page?

Just like to see some examples and see for myself the search engine results.

(While you are at it. Is Google listing you ok if you are using the flash detection kit.
I'm wondering if I should maybe just forget the FDK and have a clickable button to macromedia instead.)

How to load txt into a movie? Well that is the question. Actually the REAL question is this:

I want to make a autoupdatable menu who scrolls through a txt-file to find the values of its buttons and the number of buttons that have to be displayed. When clicked on a button i want it to load a new movie (now that i can do :-)) with each movie displaying txt from another seperate txt-file. The principle would be I update my database using my asp-scripts, another asp-script publishes the topics (so the name for the buttons) to a txt-file that is read by my nifty flash-menu to create a interactive yet beautiful scrolling menu. Not easy huh? I know it's so possible, just need a little help on the syntax and the correct procedure to do it. Anyone who helps gets real belgian beer next time I meet them :-)

Removing Original MC
Hi, i'm building a site with a floating menu...
Its supposed to be on top thru all scenes, so i achieved that with duplicate movie clip in the 1st scene.

Only problem is how do i get rid of the original clip?

this is what i did:
duplicateMovieClip("nav2", "nav3", 2);

but the nav2, is still visible in the first scene.

Please help,
(or maybe there's another way to do it?)

Why Can't I See Original Movie
I have set the actions on a button to load a movie, the movie loads ok but the button below disappears. Why??

I've built a very nice action scripted animated. It cosists of about 80 frames. The only problem is, it runs very slow.

I was thinking would it be possible to some how export each frame and then create a new movie and import frame by frame, so the new movie is just a frame by frame animation instead of a action scripted animated?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Going Back To Original Swf After MC?
Alrighty... I've finally been able to load swf's successfully, inside empty movie clips! (Thanks much, iaskwhy!)

The problem I have NOW, though, is that I need to get back to the original swf... I'll explain my setup:

I have a main movie "main". In "main"s library is the empty movie clip. The MC is placed directly over the whole "main" movie, so that when a new swf is called, it sits directly overtop & covers up "main". This is working great, but how do I get rid of that swf sitting over top, if someone chooses the Home button & wants to get back to "main"? Is it as simple as something like a movieUNLoad?

A client asked me to edit a .swf - he doesn't have the original .fla. The file is very 2 dimensional, with very little happening on it. I need to change a little piece of text that is static and sits in the corner of the file.

I need to show different flv movies which differes with there sizes (width, height) in original dimensions in flash. Is there way to recognize this values to setup Video object to show video without scaling.
Can I do that with progressive download?

Calendar (Not Too Original, But Oh Well)

this is actually my first post, and i didnt see an introduction thread, so, i figure i'll post here first
its a calendar i created as a learning experiment (using kirupa colors )
pretty much the only thing i had created in flash before this was a button >.<

i *highly* modified some code i found in the "best of" board (posted in http://www.kirupa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=49179 by jerryscript) to get the calendar to.. well... be a calendar. and the almighty actionscript dictionary and kirupa tutorials helped with the rest

Problem With Links - All Pages Show All Links
I'm a Flash newbie and having problems with a site I am working on. I could sure use some help if anyone knows what I'm doing wrong.

If you hover your mouse over the pages of my site, you can link to things are on other pages. To see what I'm talking about go to MY SITE

Example...if you are on the "Main" page, hover over the right side of the big townhome. There should not be ANY links on the picture of the townhome, however, there are links to different floor plans that should be on the Floor Plans page...go to that page to see how it's laid out...each tab should have a link to a different floor plan.

Now go to the "Imenities" page. You should only be able to link to a downloadable PDF of the amenities list. But you can link to the floor plans there also...not supposed to happen.

I probably have a lot screwed up here, but sure could use some help. Please don't laugh too much. It actually works pretty good except for the linking.
