Transition From Preloader
After my preloader i have a continue button fade in
with the following attached code:

on (release)
{gotoAndStop ("homepage");}

where homepage is the name of the frame of the following movie clip for the page

when i test movie, or upload movie and test it and click my button, nothing happens?

OK, heres my first technical flash mx question.

I have a flash movie that i am using as the bg or level 0. This level contains a bg image and a mc that contains the menu.

What i am trying to achieve is how do I assign the buttons in the mc to load the external .swf movies in layer 1 AND incorporate a preloader between each scene transition? I see this dona all the time, but cant figure it out

Preloader Help And Transition Help
I'm trying to create a preloader that is a movie. Not just a load bar. I want to create some animation that would lead into the movie. I guess what I mean is that I want to see a little animation. I don't want the preloader to zip by and not see it. For instance the movie may be completed but the preloader has 2 seconds left. I want to see those two seconds.

also I want to make the movie a little more seamless. The main site is one scene and the other pages are swf's that I load into the main movie. Now say for instance I want to go from the home page(a loaded swf) to the contact page(another loaded swf). Now the buttons are all on the root page, and I'm trying to make those buttons communicate with the loaded swf's. Say I have five buttons on the home page. I need each of those buttons to tell the home movie to continue from the point that it is stopped to the point where it finishes, and then start whatever other movie that I'm loading in. The site is www.geaa.com. Skip the intro. It's not that good. The site itself is tight, but I want to make it seamless and continuous.

I know that's a lot to take in, but if anyone has the patience to help me out, please do. thanks.

Preloader As Transition?
I'm trying to have a load bar with the percentage amount loaded as a transition between .swfs. I tried mixing the preloader tutorial with the transitions tutorial but I have been at this for days with no luck. Can someone more knowledgable than I help me with this? Please???

sorry to write with such urgency, but I cannot find a solution to an issue I'm having.

I've designed a site usng the transition tutorial, where you have a main stage and then content loaded into a movie clip with a dynamic transition and preloader between loading clips.

My problem is as follows: one of the .swf's I'm loading into the "content" movie clip on the stage has a random script which is designed to load a random background image. As the images are large in file size, the preloader only calculates the size of the .swf WITHOUT the random JPEG loaded. So in other words, the preloader is WAY underestimating the size of the .swf and on slower connections is "closing" way too early, leaving a blank background until the rest of the loading image has cached. Looks tacky and on slower connections, someone may think the file is broken and will move on. Not good.

I cannot think of any way to get around this...is there a way to get a preloader to take into account the file size of sub-loaded movie clips that are inside of the .swf that is loading???

No one answered before so PLEASE can someone help. Even if it's just a link to a tutorial.

Transition Preloader
Hello, I am trying a new site and I want to have a photogallery. I have tried an xml one but can't get the thumbnails in the right place so I have gone for a trasition setup. I am going to make it very simple and explain the best I can!
I have my box and movie etc, for the transition I am just going to have a semi transparent layer over the top (in affect fading the picture behind it). I want to display a preloader on the transition so the viewer can see the progress, but can work out how as the preload element already exists in the transition movie clip.

Preloader Transition Help
hi guys!!! hope someone could help me, ive been wanting to learn preloader transition, for example, lets say you have 2 buttons home and services, youre currrently at home then when you press services button all the contents from home will fade out then when its completely fade out then the preloader of services content starts. a simple source file will be a lot of help, so i could see how the codes are applied. thanks in advance cheers!!!!

Global Preloader? - Transition
Two questions:

1. Can i make a global preloader which i call to preload any swf at any level (loadMovieNum) or just loadMovie. If so how can this happen?

2. each swf has an opening animation (when loaded) and a closing animation. Well, when i load some other swf (via a button), the previous just unloads (logically), but without playing the closing animation first. So i cannot achieve the transition i want between swfs. I suppose there must be something about it....???

This works fine.

Number16.swf is a very complex swf file and I wish to leave it as a standalone swf file without any modifications to it.

Once the external swf file has loaded, I would like the Progress Bar to animate out. This will most likely be a reduciton in the alpha value for it followed by an increase in the alpha value for the external swf file. But I don't want the external swf to be visible until I have completed the preloader outro.

Now I'm sure that there is a million and one ways to do this. I know because I've tried 999'999 ways and failed, but what is the best practice way to do it? I like to keep my actionscript code on only one frame of a timeline generally. I.e. I don't like stop() and gotoAndPlay statements dotted all over a swf file unless it's a hierarchical block element such as the code for a dropdown menu etc.

What's the best structure for this?

i did the preloader/transition tut. in this site.. it works great.. but one thing i noticed that i the transition during the closing part is still showing the previous .swf file.. and i dont want the previous .swf file to show while the transition is closing..

does anyone know how to make this happen?

I don't understand how this is supposed to work. If I click on the transition layer & double click on the transition move clip, nothing happens, then selecting frame 1 of the actions layer and pressing F9 brings up the actions for the actions layer. Which in the completed tutorial, it shows that the code does not go there.

I hope someone can understand what I mean. I've been examining both the partial source and completed source trying to get it to work, but to no avail.

Transition Tut + Preloader Tut Problems.

Just finished up with this tutorial:

And am now stuck with a new problem. Preloading. I used this preloader:

But I don't think I'm doing something right. I saw another tutorial I could do:

But I read that it requires flash player 7.. and unfortunately the site I'm designing has strict requirements that it must be published in AS1 for flash player 6. (sucks yes - but that's the real world I suppose)

So I've put the preloader in the first frame of each movie with nothing else on the stage. There is however a frame under "scripts" that defines the midframe, as part of the first tutorial. What is happening when all these tutorials meet is that when the main movie attempts to load the external swfs in - it seems to preload it, play the first frame of that movie, then jump back to the preloading frame.

If I'm going about this all wrong - and there's a much easier way to do this - I'll be very relieved. But the recap is - I want to use the preloader in tutorial 2, with the transitions I used in tutorial 1.

Sorry if this came out incoherent, any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Preloader With Transition Problems
I have followed the Kirupa 'preloader with dymanic files' tutorial here:

Getting that version working was no problem, but now that I have tried to implement this into a site of my own I seemed to have completely cocked it up!

Yet Another Preloader Transition Problem

I'm getting there however the preloader I'm using keeps appearing even when the movie in question has been cached. Is there a preloader solution out there that detects when a movie has been previously loaded so that it won't show the loader bar again. I find it annoying seeing the bar appear unneccessarily all the time.

The preloader I'm using is basically this:

Preloader Transition Tutorial Help
Ok, newb here, got the tutorial working no problem (tutorial link) and understand it all (I think) but I made my own swf just to test and saved over the gallery.swf that came with the tutorial, and now the animation wont load when I press the gallery button, it just opens to a yellow screen. The swf just had a line of text on it - I can't see it, but I can select it. The other two buttons still work.

What have I done wrong? Do I need to do something special to the new swf file to get it to load properly into the main swf file?

Preloader Transition Thingy
Im wondering how the hell do you make those preloaders for diferent sections for instence ... http://www.k-whaps.com/ has like a preloader for each section. I need to put one in the gallery section in my website ... http://www.shongshong.vze.com/ because I would like to distribute the loading time form throuout my website so Everyone doesent have to wait so darn long at the begingin.
I would just like to have a preloader infront of my gallery section and my back issue section.

Transition From Preloader To HTML Issue
I have a 10 second preloader that fades an image in that matches the HTML page of the site. I want the flash preloader to work for the first end-user visit to the site but not on every refresh or visit to the page.
1. Is there a java-script object that I can use that loads the preloader in HTML?
2. What actionscript command should I use on the final frame of the movie to get back to the HTML?

I used the "preload with transition" tutorial(http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/p...transition.htm) bu it doesn't work if the movie in an another level. my movie loads in a clip called "popup".

I used this tutorial, and It works ok. My problem is that my buttons are in a dropdown menu. I tried using the relitave path to the buttons, but no luck.

The path to my button is; _root.weddings.santaFe

I put it here:
_root.weddings.santaFe.onRelease = function() {

_root.section = "santaFe.swf";
_root.transition.gotoAndPlay("closing");

And it didn't work.

The only way that I could get the movie (santaFe.swf) to load was to have it load when _root.weddings was pushed.

am I missing something with the path?

This is in regards to the tut found here. It was very helpful in resolving an issue I had. A question though. Is there an efficient way to show bytes loaded, or basically a preloader/progress indicator, while the external .swf loads?

Originally I was just simply loading external swfs which had preloaders in them. But the transition made is way slicker and not so abrupt.

Hi! I'm a newbie in this, I don't know any actionscript, and I was trying to build a website using the preloader and transition tutorial. Here's my question:
The external swf's are preloaded in the main movie, which simply stops and waits for the loading. while its stoped, I can't make a preloader bar to work in that frame. how can I work around this?
I know this is got to be simple, but I can't get it to work...

I am trying to use this tutorial that was on the front page of Kirupa.

But when i try to apply it to my movie it gets stuck in the closeing part of the movie. I dont know if it is stuck for real or trying to load the external movies. When i open the bandwidth meter it says that it is not downloading anything which leads me to believe it is not stuck just stopped. Has anyone had this problem?

Hey, I am adapting the tutorial "Preloader and Transition for Dynamic Files" to use on a online portfolio I am building. Is it possible to change this script so that if a file (profile.swf for instance) isn't present nothing will happen. My client will be adding content after the build so I am building all the button functional. If he dosen't have a 2nd or 3rd file it is just leaving the screen blank.

for a project - it works really very fine.
Now I have just one problem:
I have to load the whole site.swf into a movieclipholder and now I don't find
the paths anymore. An example:
That movieclip I use to load the site into is called "siteMC"
The code on the buttons are:

That works also. But now, there is a script in the 1. frame of the transition movieclip that executes the loading of the first content swf:
"_root.section = "profile.swf";"

Here I tried everything from "_root.siteMC.section" "_parent.siteMC.section"
and so on - nothing happens.
Do anybody know what I have to code here so I can load the first swf or maybe some other solution?

and I've been at it for a good while and just can't get round to it to solve it
