Flash newbie here! I'm brand new at this Flash stuff so please bear with me.

I'm trying to have an Authorware application print a Flash MX 2004 certificate upon course completion. Authorware sends variables to Flash, which then popuplates variables on the screen. That part works great. The actual printing of this certificate from Flash is the part I'm having trouble with. I need to have the certificate print out on the user's default printer automatically, with no user interaction at all (i.e. no "print" button). The certificate needs to be in landscape mode (if possible) and fill up most of the page.

The Flash movie is a simple single layer, 5 frame 612x792 movie. Frame 5 has #p inserted in the Name field in the Properties panel. I am using this simple script to print this single frame:

printNum(0, "bmovie");

What I end up getting from the printer is a portrait mode printout with the certificate centered about 6" wide and 4" high. If I manually set the print mode to landscape, I get the same size certificate (6"x4") printed in the center of the page at the top.

Can anyone recommend an easy way to print a full page certificate from Flash?

i am trying to print a movie clip which is inside a scrollpane. the problem is that it is only printing the visible part of the movie clip and not the complete movie clip. how this prom can be overcome

Hi,

Is it possible to print good quality graphics with Flash MX 2004? For exemple, would it be possible to have good quality print on a T-Shirt with a graphic made in Flash? What would be the quality of the printing compared to a graphic made in Freehand MX or Illustrator?

Flash 2004 Printing Questions
Hi guys,

Am using the new PrintJob(),.addPage(),.send() way of printing a large movie (760 x >2000pi). I have essentially worked out the printing except for the following problems:

1. border around input box
Input text boxes within the movie dont print with a border, althought the text boxes have "show border around text" selected and display correctly on screen.

2. print background
Is there an easy way to change the document background colour using actionscript - so I can set the background to white just while it prints? or is the only solution to create a white graphic box within the movie?

3. paging
The virtical size of the movie is large and therefore need to fit on multiple pages. The vertical size is also dynamic. Currently I am using the Xmin:,Xmax:,Ymin:,Ymax to set a page - but this means that some of the content gets unnaturally cut off. Is there a better way to split a movie into pages for printing?

btw: for development purposes I'm only printing to postscript files and viewing them - i dont think this output would be different from the real thing right?

Need An Explicit Printing Tutorial For Flash 5 Or An Expert On Printing...
Been trying to print for a couple of hours now.
It seems to work fine when I use simple objet on the main timeline, but I get weird result when trying to print nested object.

For example, it got a movie clip containing multiple duplicate mc, and a dynamic text field. This movie clip is out of the movie stage.

When I try to print it it using:

printAsBitmap(this.effective.printArea, "bMovie");

nothing get printed.

so I move the movie on the stage.

this.effective._x = 0;
this.effective._y = 0;
printAsBitmap(this.effective.printArea, "bMovie");

the frame gets printed, but the text is out of phase even if it looks fine on the screen.

I have define the label of the frame I want to print with #p and the printing area with #b.

Why can I print my movie if it's off the stage, and why does the dynamic text field is printed out of phase when I tried to print ?

Flash Printing - Trouble Printing Bitmap
Hello,

I have a Flash MX (not 2004) project that generates dynamic printable coupons. Here's the lowdown of what happens:

1. The flash coupon is loaded - dynamically loads in text and an external jpeg. This data is displayed in one frame that the user sees on the screen, and in another frame that the user never sees but is sent to the printer.
2. User presses print.
3. The flash movie sends the 'print this' frame to the printer, and voila! Printed coupon!

All works well, but when it comes time to print the coupon, everything prints but the jpeg. In fact, after you hit the 'print' button and the print dialogue box comes up, and you begin to print, you can actually see the jpeg vanish from the flash movie, only to return when print dialog box is finished!

I've tried a variety of tests - printing just the current frame, incorporating a test to make sure the image is loaded before allowing printing, and trying all the different print functions. I'm aware that print() only prints vector while printAsBitmap() will print everything, although with less quality, and I'm currently using printAsBitmap().

Has anybody run into this? Is there any solution or anything I'm overlooking?

i want to set up a flash site with multiple levels and have all levels print. is this possible? i've printed before out of flash playere 7 but was only able to print out of one level. any insights would be appreciated.

Printing In Flash. Problem With Printing Twice...
I have an all vector form that displays data within it. As soon as it opens, it prints. I am running this in the first frame of the root time line.

The timeline is 2 frames and I am wanting to print both pages. Everything works fine expect after the print dialog box pops up and you hit print, then it prints the 2 frames, it pops up again and wants to print the pages one more time. I only want it to print once. Any ideas?

I've done alot of work with Flash MX 2004 Pro in a class I took. I'm looking into buying the Flash program for my own personal use. I checked out the school store and found that I could buy Flash MX 2004 there at a discount price.

My question is, will Flash MX 2004 allow me to open the .fla files I finished in my class, even though I used Flash MX 2004 Pro to make them? If not, I'll have a lot more saving to do...

Vector Printing Of TextField. Part Of TextField Not Printing.
Hi, I hope somebody here can help me.
I have a movieclip with a dynamic textField in it.
I set autoSize = "center" and fill it with text.
Then, if i then use PrintJob.addPage("myPage", {printAsBitmap:false}); , the bottom few lines of the textfield don't print. (The textField shows up fine on the screen.)

The textField shows up fine if I use {printAsBitmap:false}, allbeit in lower quality.

If anyone can make a dynamic textField print properly as vector, please lemme know.

I have mx 2004 at my job... we were supposed to get professional but our purchasing department bought regular mx 2004...

Can you go from mx 2004 to professional? How do you do it? Whats the cost? Do I have to pay for an upgrade like I was coming from regular mx?

.FLA Opens In Mx 2004 But Not In MX 2004 Pro?
I'm having a nightmare here!!

i've been working on a site (i'm struggling enough with that alone!) but earlier today i had an error whilst saving and somehow this has resulted in my original .fla being deleted (no back up).......aaargh

i have now managed to recreate the .FLA by using a .fla to .swf decompiler but when i try and open it in MX 2004 Pro i recieve "unexpected file format" and it won't open, however i can open the recovered file in MX2004....so not is all lost, but its not ideal.

Is there anyway i can save it from 2004 so i can open it in 2004 Pro? or is there a fundamental difference between the two file types? ( i find this strange if true since they are both part of the 2004 range? plus surely 2004 pro is backwards compatible to 2004? most software apps are?)

sorry if this has been asked many times before i'm just at my wits end and trying to understand a little better........i'm quite new to flash!

Hello,

I am having a problem getting the mac projector and flash content on the web to print on a mac. The print dialog box opens fine, but when the printer prints out what is on the screen i get an error that says:

I know this is a reoccuring thing for the macs - some problem with the post script interpreter not understaning the ps file from flash.

Got dynamic printing to work if any on is intrested, how ever you have to know who many pages your out put is going to be before the movie is compiled.

I am trying to insert a print function on a button in the movie. However, each time I test it, it seems to crash the computer. Any idea what I am doing wrong? Any help you can be in getting the screen (the entire movie) to print for the user would be appreciated.

Then I want to decide which frame to print, and what I know so far is that I am suppose to label the frame I want to print with #p. But I can only label one frame #p, but what about the other 99 frames?

I have an icon of a printer on my site. I want it to work in such a way that when a user clicks on this printer icon, it will print an HTML document. In the action, I can specify the html address, but all I want the user to see is the windows print options when they click the button. Is this possible?

I tried "loadmovie" to load the second swf into an empty movie clip and then specify empty as the target for the print command. But doesnot seem to work. Any suggestions?

I am using #p labels and would like a number on each page. If I can't do it with that command can anyone think of an easy way using actionscript that would get numbers in the correct order on each frame that is labelled with a #p?

Im faced with a task to create a CD ROM proposal, and by the end, give out an option to PRINT the CONFORME LETTER.

I know the basic printing in flash which prints a frame in the movie, but the big problem is, the CONFORME LETTER is MS WORD format. IT's composed of 5 pages with heavy formating (paragraph, intdents, etc)... Cutting and pasting this into flash text area messes up everything! Not to mention printing multiple pages in flash is a big question...

ANy brilliant ideas out there how I can accomplish this?
