Flash :: Printing, Why Is Printing Such A Problem?

Need An Explicit Printing Tutorial For Flash 5 Or An Expert On Printing...
Been trying to print for a couple of hours now.
It seems to work fine when I use simple objet on the main timeline, but I get weird result when trying to print nested object.

For example, it got a movie clip containing multiple duplicate mc, and a dynamic text field. This movie clip is out of the movie stage.

When I try to print it it using:

printAsBitmap(this.effective.printArea, "bMovie");

nothing get printed.

so I move the movie on the stage.

this.effective._x = 0;
this.effective._y = 0;
printAsBitmap(this.effective.printArea, "bMovie");

the frame gets printed, but the text is out of phase even if it looks fine on the screen.

I have define the label of the frame I want to print with #p and the printing area with #b.

Why can I print my movie if it's off the stage, and why does the dynamic text field is printed out of phase when I tried to print ?

Flash Printing - Trouble Printing Bitmap
Hello,

I have a Flash MX (not 2004) project that generates dynamic printable coupons. Here's the lowdown of what happens:

1. The flash coupon is loaded - dynamically loads in text and an external jpeg. This data is displayed in one frame that the user sees on the screen, and in another frame that the user never sees but is sent to the printer.
2. User presses print.
3. The flash movie sends the 'print this' frame to the printer, and voila! Printed coupon!

All works well, but when it comes time to print the coupon, everything prints but the jpeg. In fact, after you hit the 'print' button and the print dialogue box comes up, and you begin to print, you can actually see the jpeg vanish from the flash movie, only to return when print dialog box is finished!

I've tried a variety of tests - printing just the current frame, incorporating a test to make sure the image is loaded before allowing printing, and trying all the different print functions. I'm aware that print() only prints vector while printAsBitmap() will print everything, although with less quality, and I'm currently using printAsBitmap().

Has anybody run into this? Is there any solution or anything I'm overlooking?

i want to set up a flash site with multiple levels and have all levels print. is this possible? i've printed before out of flash playere 7 but was only able to print out of one level. any insights would be appreciated.

Printing In Flash. Problem With Printing Twice...
I have an all vector form that displays data within it. As soon as it opens, it prints. I am running this in the first frame of the root time line.

The timeline is 2 frames and I am wanting to print both pages. Everything works fine expect after the print dialog box pops up and you hit print, then it prints the 2 frames, it pops up again and wants to print the pages one more time. I only want it to print once. Any ideas?

Vector Printing Of TextField. Part Of TextField Not Printing.
Hi, I hope somebody here can help me.
I have a movieclip with a dynamic textField in it.
I set autoSize = "center" and fill it with text.
Then, if i then use PrintJob.addPage("myPage", {printAsBitmap:false}); , the bottom few lines of the textfield don't print. (The textField shows up fine on the screen.)

The textField shows up fine if I use {printAsBitmap:false}, allbeit in lower quality.

If anyone can make a dynamic textField print properly as vector, please lemme know.

Hello,

I am having a problem getting the mac projector and flash content on the web to print on a mac. The print dialog box opens fine, but when the printer prints out what is on the screen i get an error that says:

I know this is a reoccuring thing for the macs - some problem with the post script interpreter not understaning the ps file from flash.

Anyone have a solution to solve this?

Got dynamic printing to work if any on is intrested, how ever you have to know who many pages your out put is going to be before the movie is compiled.

I am trying to insert a print function on a button in the movie. However, each time I test it, it seems to crash the computer. Any idea what I am doing wrong? Any help you can be in getting the screen (the entire movie) to print for the user would be appreciated.

I am doing a slideshow in Flash MX - I want to put, lets say 100 pictures on the timeline, each on its own frame.

Then I want to decide which frame to print, and what I know so far is that I am suppose to label the frame I want to print with #p. But I can only label one frame #p, but what about the other 99 frames?

I have an icon of a printer on my site. I want it to work in such a way that when a user clicks on this printer icon, it will print an HTML document. In the action, I can specify the html address, but all I want the user to see is the windows print options when they click the button. Is this possible?

I have a print button on my main movie. I would like to be able to print another movie using this button. How can I achieve this? I tried "loadmovie" to load the second swf into an empty movie clip and then specify empty as the target for the print command. But doesnot seem to work. Any suggestions?

I am using #p labels and would like a number on each page. If I can't do it with that command can anyone think of an easy way using actionscript that would get numbers in the correct order on each frame that is labelled with a #p?

Im faced with a task to create a CD ROM proposal, and by the end, give out an option to PRINT the CONFORME LETTER.

I know the basic printing in flash which prints a frame in the movie, but the big problem is, the CONFORME LETTER is MS WORD format. IT's composed of 5 pages with heavy formating (paragraph, intdents, etc)... Cutting and pasting this into flash text area messes up everything! Not to mention printing multiple pages in flash is a big question...

ANy brilliant ideas out there how I can accomplish this?

I was thinking.. is there a way I can just include the *.DOC file in the CD and have flash print it out?

Hope someone can help me.

I am trying to print a frame in a movie in flash. I can get it to print the correct frame however I have three text fields which print fine when they are static but dont when I make them dynamic.

I have already embedded the font outlines for the three boxes and still they come out blank. I can see the text on the screen...... however when I click to print it comes out blank.

Please help, I am running out of hair to pull out.

I've been trying to print a certain frame. i've put #p on the frame that I want to be printed and the code i'm useing is this:

when I click the button it prints the frames before the designated #p frame. Does anyone know why this happens and can you tell how to fix it?

I am writing actionscript in MX right now and I cannot get my published flash movie to print directly. I have imported text from a word document, therefore, when I hit print in the movie, it just opens the word program and opens that file, then I have to hit print in Word to get that to work. here is what it looks like:

now i am not sure what to add to get this document to print directly. PLEASE help if you have any ideas. Thanks in advance.

One thing to clear up. The Movie and the accomponying word documents are on a CD not posted for the web. Therefore, how it is set up i want to hit print in the movie, and have the actionscript written so that it locates the word doc./and prints it directly, without having to take the extra step of the word program opening, the text opening up, and then having to manually hit the print command in word. now it just opens the doc in word, then i have to hit print. Thanks for any ideas.

Hi all,

I'm trying to use the absurd print action in flash 5 (could use MX if any better). The 'only' problem is that the images to be printed are horizontal and flash automatically shrinks them to the smallest size of the paper, and they come out reaaaaally tiny.

Is there any way (without asking the user to manually adjust his/her printer parameters) to automatically rotate the images 90 degrees? Or adjust them to the biggest size of the page?

Can anyone tell me how to properly print an .swf from a .html page? When I use Javascript to print the page, the .swf prints out reversed... (?) It even sets to reversed when you hit the print button in the browser, and stays that way! Very frustrating, does anyone have a solution for this? Thanks a lot!

I'm using MX. I have a movie with 4 movieclips. One of them I want to be printable when it is in the foreground. I have added a button into this mc with this code:

...and there is a #p label in the mc. But it just prints the 4 frames of the main timeline I have read the Macromedia tuorial on this and can't work out what I've done wrong.

I am using the print function. Everything prints great, except I have a mc that only prints the first frame, no matter what frame it is currently on. I've tried print() and printNum(). And yes, I did put the #p in the appropriate labels. Am I over looking something?

Hi I have lets' say five layers on my root.

I want to print Frame 15. There's a stop on frame 10.

But I want to print all the layers in frame 15 that are within a bounding box. I put a big white square on my stage and label that frame at 15 #b.

My top Layer which is my actions layer I Put #P at frame fifteen.

I tried

on (press) {

And Nothing works!

The main Layer I want to print, is built by the using using drag and drop object so I can't put a key frame the at 15.

I've read all the stuff I have got off a search but it does not help so maybe someone knows.

I have a document inside a MC which I need people to be able to print.
So I put the doc(news) by itself on separate frame(3) with #p label I put button on frame 2 with following script

on release

print("news"."bframe")

Works fine

Problem is that this movie is actually loaded into a blank MC on the main movie and even if I put _root.blankMC.news in the script it just wants to print the main timeline.

Does anyone have a solution to this

I thought of putting the doc(news) in a frame on the main timeline but I have more than one to print and you cannot choose specific frames to print.

Any help would be appreciated

I've produced a three frame movie showing a map, there's navigation for each view (frame) and a print button for each.

I want the user to be able to print only the frame they are viewing, but all the frames are printed out when you hit print.

Every frame must be printable but only when the user views it, so I don't think #p will do the job.

Goal. I want to print have a web page where you can print airplane folding instructions.

Problem. Can't get the printout to print to the edges of the page.

I have 2 frames in my movie.

1st frame has my design and #p, 2nd frame has the bounding box which fills the stage and is centered and is labeled #b.

I've got a print action on an invisible button and it prints as a bmovie.

I've set my bounding box to the same dimensions as an 8.5 by 11" sheet of paper yet the printout is always uncentered and leaves a space at the bottom and the left edge of the paper.

Anyone know how I can get my design centered and filling the entire page?

how do i specify which frame i want to print?

I have made a movie which will print content on a frame if the content is on the same frame as the button........

what code would i use if for example i have 2 buttons on frame 3, button one prints the content on frame 4 and button 2 prints the content on frame 5 (the content isn't viewable, it's just there for printing)

is this possible or can i only print if the content is on the same frame as the button?

Just a quick question, my friend has created a flash movie for me but i have a problem with it.

He's added a print command in the movie and when a person clicks on it, it will print all 244 frames out, is there a way by which it will just print that screen or else the text shown on it

Hi there, I know this can sound a bit "stupid" but I don't know how to solve this problem.

I have built this movie
furnishing movie

and I need that when the user has finished furnishing a room he can print the map with all the furnitures and colors. If I use the regular script:

}

I have this problems:
1)All the rooms are printed and not only the room I need to be printed
2)There are not the furnitures in the room

I also would like that the user could send a copy of the furnished room by e-mail, but I have no idea on how to make it! Can you help, please?

after much fooling around, I finally figured out how to use the #b from a button to print a certain area, BUT
Now i can't figure out how to get it to print the dynamic text
is in the movie clips in the bounding box...
I am sure it is simple, any suggestions?

I'm creating a training piece that has a certificate of completion at the end. The certificate enables the user to enter their name, click a button, then the name is filled in on the certificate and they are prompted to print it. I have a frame labeled #P, but it seems to want to print the entire flash file (over 250 pages) when the print button is clicked. Any ideas on how to fix this would be much appreciated!

Hi all.

Im making a page at the moment that kids can choose from a few different b&w pictures to print out for coloring in at home.

Ive set up 8 diff buttons with small preview pics, and I have correctly sized the 8 pics for printing and saved them on the server as .jpg's. However, im not sure which of the printing commands i should use.

Ive attached the page .swf (the .fla was 2 big) and 1 correctly sized print .jpg

Id be most thankful for any advice on this one.
