Importing Illustrator Files Into Flash
Does anyone have any thoughts about exporting illustrator files into flash?
I notice that every part of my illustrator image comes in as a group/overlay object, I'm a newbie so I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing. I also noticed that you can save .swf files from illustrator is this a better way to go about it. ? I (might) have a job doing some illustrations for a flash project and as I have never used the drawing tools in flash (always imported from illustrator or photoshop) I need to know everything I can about this process.

Importing Illustrator CS3 Files Into Flash CS3 To Tween
Hello,

I'm definitely not a flash pro so I would like some help!

I'm trying to animate a man in Flash CS3 who was drawn in illustrator CS3.

I've imported all the layers but when I try to tween them only the ones that have a single path tween correctly. Can you only tween single path layers or am I being an idiot?

Illustrator Shows BG Error When Importing Ai Files Made In Flash
Hello Everyone!

I've been using Flash for a couple of years now... I use it mostly for designing fashion graphics (!!!). I know that Illustrator is excellect for creating artwork, but I am a big Flash fan and can't help it :) Of course, I have to use Illustrator from time to time which makes it a bit tricky when importing modified Flash files.

I export Flash files as AI ones, but encounter numerous errors while opening such files in Illustrator. I think the problem is with the Color settings. Flash uses RGB, and CMYK is Illustrator's default settings. When I try to export a graphic symbol (with layers, groups of objects and simple shapes) from Flash Professional as an AI file, it always exports as Illustrator 6.0 version (wonder why)... Then I try to open this file in Illustrator CS2 and always get a "BG" error message which is similar to this one:

Can't open illustration. The illustration doesn't have the correct number of operands for an operator.
Offending operator: "Bg"
Contex:
Bb
0000 Bh
1.0.0.000819.20.....etc. (lots of figures)...Bg

So after getting such a message and pressing "OK" there are 2 possible results:
1. The program (Illustrator CS2) opens a blank artboard (stage) with absolutely NO objects or symbols on it.
2. The program opens an incomplete graphic on the artboard (stage) with many missing objects and shapes (say, if I exported a graphic with 2 layers, the top layer will be missing).

Unfortunately, these are the most common results....Though a few days ago I hkept several AI files open and tried to export an AI file made in Flash. To my greatest surprise Illustrator could open the file with absolutely everything I exported from Flash!!! Except for Bitmap fills, of course....But everything else was just perfect! I was amazed no end!
Like an idiot I didn't save the file, and the next day I spent 2 hours trying to get the same result...which I didn't. Never did since then...Though I used the same graphic over and over...

So my question is...What settings should I have in order to be able to open AI files exported from Flash? If I got it once, it means it is possible to open such files...

I would greatly appreciate if anybody could help me find a way out of this situation. I have to use Illustrator more often now, and I need my artwork to be convered to AI files without significant modifications or corrections... Is it doable?

Best way to bring Illustrator 10 vectors into FlashMX on Mac OSX? Copy and paste or drag and drop both don't work. Don't tell me I have to go through the whole save and import rigmarole!!

The EPS file was not completely understood. Part or all of the file may be missing.

Flash only supports importing the Adobe Illustrator EPS file format. Most drawing tools, including Macromedia FreeHand, import and export this format.

Help Importing Files From Illustrator
OK, I'm having a hard time importing files that I made on illustrator 10 into my copy of flash MX. When I try to import a .ai file, says there was an error reading the file. When I save my files as a .eps, it brings up the import options dialog box, then when I click OK it says all or part of the file may be missing. Help With Importing Illustrator Files
OK, so the other day I tried to import a .ai file into Flash MX for the firt time ever, and I got a message saying it could not read the file. So, I reopened the work, and saved it as a .eps file, then tried to open it again. This time, the import dialog came up, but when I clicked OK, it said that all or part of the file was missing, and that flash MX could only import files of type .eps. So does anyone, ANYONE, have any idea how to fix this? I've tried tinkering around with the save settings in Illustrator, and with the import settings in flash, to no avail. Has anyone else had this problem? Please help. . .

Importing Illustrator Files
What's the best version to save an Illy file at to import into Flash?

I've found some come in at ver 8 ok, others won't unless they're 7, others 6.

I've got one that I cant get to come in properly at all. Might be something to do with the drop shadow under the logo (they asked for it, don't get me started on drop shadows) but I've tried flattening the transparency to no avail.

It also doesn't seem to like objects with clipping masks (just leaves them out of the object when it imports) or (just for the sake of trying) completely raster illy files.

Can anyone give me any advice on this?

i'm following all the guidelines but the results are not what i expect. Simple shapes with gradient fills are coming in with no selectable point/nodes.

Can somone give me a run though on the correct way to import into flash 8.

I want to make those square buttons you can see on this website. When I import those buttons from illustrator into flash, the color has changed and it all looks so 'crispy'. I have changed all the coordinates so they are integer numbers (no comma's), but it is still like that.

So, can anyone explain me the best way to import files from illustrator into flash, so I have no problems with my fonts, colors and that 'crispy'effect?

Importing Illustrator CS Files
So here's the deal.

I have a bunch of Illustrator CS files (which I didn't create) that I need to import into Flash MX. The Illustrator files have quite a few gradients and transparencies. I'd love to be able to import the illustration so that when it gets into Flash all of the gradients are preserved, but no matter what I do, by the time it gets into Flash it's a mess.

The thing I'm MOST trying to avoid is turning the gradients into bitmaps-- which is what is currently happening.

I've tried exporting my files from Illustrator as a swf, an eps, illustrator 8,9 & 10, pdf.

I've tried importing these into flash both onto the stage and into the library.

I've also tried bringing the illustrations into Freehand and exporting them that way.

None of this works.

Anyone have suggestions?

Trouble Importing Eps Files From Illustrator 9
I have a logo that was created using fonts and drawings in Illustrator 9. I have saved the logo in Illustrator 5 and 8 format and imported into Flash 5. The letters in the logo become jagged and when scaled change slightly. Any help will be appreciated.

Are you able to import Adobe Illustrator v10 eps files into Flash MX?

If so, does it keep the folders from the Illustrator file?

Also, if there are symbols in the Illustrator file, does it recognise them as Flash symbols?

°°° [MX] Problem With Importing Illustrator-files °°°
Hey there,

This may sound like a stupid question and I've searched kirupa, but I didn't find any good answer. Here is the problem. I made my buttons in Illustrator and saved them as .ai (v6). When I import those buttons and use them in Flash, everything is so blurry.

The button is a letter with a frame around it. I get the letter ok (with anti-aliasing text), but the frame stays blurred in flash. When I export my movie, everything stays blurred... AND I HATE IT!

How can I solve this?

Importing Adobe Illustrator 9.0 Or EPS Files
I'm having a bit of trouble importing an Adoble Illustrator 9.0 file or an EPS file with the fonts embedded in the .eps or .ai file. It worked for one file, creating a "Clip Paths" folder in the Library, but with the other it just brings in a regular old file without a folder and the fonts are substituted with system fonts. Any ideas on why this is happening?

Problem Importing Illustrator Files With Compound Paths
I'm having problems importing illustrator files with a lot of compound paths. When I do it, there's obviously a lot of pieces "behind the scenes" in the piece (masks, multiple paths) so that it bogs down the processor when i try to animate it.

Is there a way in illustrator to say, "flatten" the vector image while not making it rastered. . that is, so what you see is what you're exporting?

Does that make sense?

Hi,

Which is the best way to import an illustrator drawing into Flash? I've tried several ways but when the drawing is inide Flash it never appears as distinct in its colors and the lines looks thicker and blurry altough I choose "hairline" as the width. Actually making a transparent gif of the adobe illustration and importing it into Flash has so far given me the best result but with this method I get ugly pixel edges. Is there a better way?

Dear all

I have designed a web site in Illustrator 10 and I am having major problems when trying to copy and paste elements of it into flash.

The main issue is when I try to paste in some outlined text with a gaussion blur applied.

hi all,

i have created a series of complex figure images in illustrator 10, for use in a flash movie, about 40 characters in total.

i have tried to copy & paste only to find that the images are disfigured in flash.

exporting them as giffs would cause the SWF to be too large, so i exported them all as SWF files from illustrator into flash & they look fine.

the only problem is that the SWF file is still too large at 768k... is there a better method of getting illustrator images into flash, whilst reducing the file size..

would pasting the images into freehand befor i copy into flash help??

Hello, I was wondering what the best way to import Illustrator drawings into Flash.

I have created a drawing in Illustrator with a gradient effect added to it. But when I import it into Flash the effect looks nothing like it did in Illustrator. Could someone plese tell me why this?

I know I can import the image into Photoshop and then save the selection as an alpha channel, but that would only bloat the file size of the image. Any advice would be appriciated. Thanks.

i figured the easiest way around it may be to "create outline" in illustrator. then to import the vector path of the text into flash mx. im not sure the best way to import them. so i jus copy pasted the vector path from illustrator to flash. when i did this i got a really blocky letter that looked very little like the original path. im not sure what happend.

so my question is what is the best way to get a path in illustrator to flash

Is there a disadvantage to working with AI instead of freehand? I mean.. both are vector based.. but one being a macromedia product.. would I get different control over how my work out?.. never actually done it.. just wondering how hard it would be to animate a vector based object from illustrator.. I'm trying to import some text from Illustrator into Flash MX and it's not keeping the formatting. It either brings the text in broken up into blocks of 1 or 2 letters. Or in unrecognizable characters. Or, the best success I've had is it brings it in all in one long column, but without the correct font, size, or formatting (it should be in 4 columns).

Anybody know the best way to import text from Illustrator into Flash? Or know why I might be having this problem?

Hello peeps - was wonderif any of you could give me some advise about using illustrator with flash as I am having a bit of a nightmare - being niether an expert on either programe - is it better (ie easier) to import ai files or use cs2 to export swf files?
does anybody have any idea why the files I am exporting aren't being clipped to the artboard (whn exporting to swf format I tick the option to clip at the artboard but in flash I'm still getting the overspill).
Also is there anyway to avoid every element of the image being converted into a seprate symbol as this is making the program run frustratingly slowly (I asume this is the reason that its running so clunkly - any other ideas would be appreciated).
the other thing is that some of these images are to remain static in the animation - how would it be if I used raster images instead - if some1 was to watch the animation fullscreen would these elements become pixalated?

I was sent graphics, all created in Illustrator 7.0, to be used in a Flash, and Illustrator/Flash integration is new territory for me. The graphics import into Flash just fine but they don't always make the trip ... it's almost like a layer or vector gets stripped. Is there a problem with Flash not importing vector graphics? I'm using Illustrator CS2 to open the original files and then save them in .ai and .eps formats. I've had problems importing both the .ai and .eps files, but I've also had success ... so there doesn't seem to be a pattern. I am developing a map application in flash. The map have so many text on it. The map is designed in illustrator CS. I am saving the map in .AI format and importing it in flash 8. After importing the map has some problem -

1. the text alignment is distorted.
and its first color of the text is changed to red color.

2. The map file has lines also. the lines are converted in dotted line automatically.

Importing Illustrator Graphics Into Flash
I just downloaded the free trial version of Flash, and I was all excited to start learning until I was thwarted within seconds by a problem that must be really simple to fix, but i can't seem to figure it out.

I want to import my vector graphics from Illustrator, but they do not seem to be importing as vector graphics. None of my layers are showing up. There is no way to select seperate objects. I can't edit them. Breaking them apart doesn't help.

I checked all the resources I could think of, including the help menu and video tutorials and even "Flash for dummies" but they all say that when I go to import my files, a dialog box is supposed to pop up and let me choose which layers to import and choose to convert them to flash layers. But the dialog box doesn't show up.

In my preferences, I made sure that i had it set to show the dialogue box, but it still doesn't show up.

I know it must be something really obvious, but I just can't figure it out! Please let me know if you have any advice!

I have some graphics created in Illustrator, I want to import these into Flash. I want them to stay in vector format. I'ved saved them in every format eps, ai...etc. But no matter what I save them as, it seems, when I import them into Flash they end up being converted into bitmaps.

I created a logo in Adobe Illustrator 9 using layers. I read that it is possible to import the layers from Illustrator so they will come in as layers in Flash. I've exported the layered Illustrator file as an .eps and then tried importing it into Flash 4, however, I keep getting an error message saying that Flash cannot read the file and then Flash quits. Do you have any idea why this isn't working? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

[F8] Importing Illustrator Clipping Mask Into Flash
I have been unsuccessful in bringing an image into Flash from Illustrator (CS2) that has a clipping mask. When I test the movie, the parts of the image that have been hidden will show and when I rollover a button with that masked image on it, the mask itself shows (usually a bright red square). I've tried exporting it different ways and haven't had any luck.

Is it even possible to bring in clipping masks from Illustrator into Flash? Am I attempting the impossible?

I am importing vector artwork from illustrator to flash mx and have noticed that I cannot get a good import of the vector.
Its really jaggedy around the curves.
I use cut and paste to import it. Is this natural. Do I have to do all my vector drawing in flash to get a smooth vector image, specially when it comes to curvy vector art.
Importing from photoshop jpegs is good but vectors looks really bad, and sometimes the strokes aren't aligned with the fill.

What are my best ways of getting good vector artwork into flash mx.

Importing ESP From Illustrator To Flash (Colors Not Coming Through Correctly)
Hey All,

Quick question - I'm importing a logo into Flash via Illustrator. When I directly copy it (ctrl + c) from Illustrator into Flash, it comes through clearly, but the colors are off (the shade of blue isn't the same).

If I export it as a JPG or PNG, it imports into flash with the correct colors, but now the logo is too pixelated (being converted to a bitmap).

Is there a way to do this correctly?

Image Problems Importing Illustrator 10 File Into Flash MX.
Hello,

I'm working on my portfolio and want to import an Illustrator (version 10) file into Flash (Flash MX). The problem I'm having is that when I import the Illustrator file into Flash, it comes out looking blurred. I tried exporting the Illustrator file into Photoshop and saving it as a JPEG, PNG, and TIFF (in each file format, changing the image size to 72 dpi) and I still get the same blurred result. I also tried saving the file for web, in Illustrator (in JPEG and PNG formats) with no success as well.

The Illustrator file is a small collage of my graphic design work (where I pasted graphic work done in Illustraor and made clipping masks to collage them together), so I'm not sure if bringing these files together maybe causing some technical issue or is importing Illustrator files into Flash just something that will always appear blurred. If so, is there a way I can bring the file into Photoshop and work with it where I can import it without the blurred appearance?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The image seems almost flattened. when I select the image with the direct selection tool only 2 lines are editable. Hi People

I'm having real trouble importing Adobe Illustrator Files into Flash!

It imports them but just misses certain parts out. This is really annoying as the files are Company Logos!

Has anybody else shared this problem? It's really annoying!

But more importantly does anybody know a way of importing Adobe Illustrator Files into Flash without pieces of them disappearing?

Is it best to do them as .AI or .EPS?

.tif/photoshop/illustrator Files Imported To Flash Movie
hi, i have some cartoons (originally hand-drawn, so no true vector format) that were (digitally) originally .tif files. what's the best way to save/optimize them to import into flash so that:

-the movie clip doesn't get too huge
-the cartoons (charicatures, really), when placed on a dark background, don't show up the white crinkled outlined edges from the photoshop alterations (removing the white background from the cartoon body so i can move a transparent image seamlessly in the website.

and in general, for importing from illustrator to flash (or is importing from photoshop better?) what're the best guidelines for crisp, sharp, hot hot results in my flash movie(as a website)?

also, while we're on the topic, best guidelines for optimizing images in photoshop for flash (but with transparency in the image)?

*note the attached cartoon is a diminished version of the original digital file.
