Help On Flash File Sizes For Publishing
hi im just finishing off a photography site and the .swf is around 944kb and the .fla file is 2.2mb
i was just wondering if this is an ok size to publish or will it make it run slowly, i know its dependant on the users machines and the bandwidth etc but i just wanted to know if there was any recommended sizes to keep with in and how i could reduce the size of my site...at the moments its displaying around 40 images...any help is extremely appreciated thanks

Flash 8 Crashes When Publishing File
Has anyone else had this problem? Hopefully!!

Whenever I go to Publish a file, Flash crashes. I just installed version 8 yesterday and it's already done it twice during the publish phase. I'm publishing to a gif file so I don't know if that's it or not. Sometimes it does it and sometimes it crashes so there's no consistency to help me narrow down the problem. Any suggestions?

Publishing Flash File In Netscape
I have Flash file which was published into html for 100%width and height.I am able to view that in full screen in IE but when i view in netscape my swf appears very small.

Publishing More Than One Flash File: Urgent
hi
i have a question on the publishing of flash files.
i have set all the required flash publish settings but just dont understand how to publish it to the net. how do i make it online?
and i have one more question. in my main flash file, i have a button which is supposed 2 call and load another external flash file.
so, it works well when i try it and everything seems fine.
but i want 2 know how i can publish this other file as well without it being visible unless called.

basically, i just want 2 know how 2 publish multiple flash files on the net on one website although they play only when they are called on.
can anyone help me out?

Why Doesn't My Swf Show In The Middle Of My Html File When Publishing In Flash Cs3
I created a movie file in flash 8 and published the document with the html file publish settings for plugin detection and to center my movie in the middle of the html page which worked fine. But I am now using Flash cs3 and taking advantage of the new code for plug-in detection. I have put the same publish settings from 8 to cs3 but the document shows at the top left corner in Firefox and goes to the alternate page in IE to download the plugin. Can anyone help me out, is anyone experiencing the same problems?

Publishing SWF File
Hi all, hopefully someone has the answer to my riddle...

I have recently completed a site for my office and we have it uploaded at the following url

The site starts with a standard HTML page done in dreamweaver and clicking on the "salter Architects" button loads the SWF file in a new no-resizable window. The problem is the SWF file opens as a blank white window until the whole SWF file has been downloaded. There is a preloader to the SWF file but it doesn't seem to work properly i.e. the SWF file doesn't load while streaming, it waits till the whole file is loaded before playing the preloader.

What's goin' on ?

Publishing File To A Disc
I am doing a project that I need to put on a disc and make self contained. This file needs to work on both PC and Mac. I have learned to publish it using the projector part in the publishing, but I am having a problem publishing my file to work on a PC. I made the two files one for a Mac and the other for the PC, the Mac one works fine on all the Mac's I have tryed it on but the PC version doesn't work on any computer I have put the disc in. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I am doing wrong?

Publishing Issues With SWF File

I have created a flash prototype using Flash 8. I have dragged few components and used animation in my prototype.
Now due to some reason my prototype only works when you are hooked up to the internet. It seems like it is trying to talk to adobe website because when you are not hooked up to the the internet and run that application , you will get the blank screen and in the output it says "Error: Opening URL "www.download.adobe.com/sharedComponents".
All i need is to create my prototype and publish it locally too so that my swf file should work without being connected to the internet . Also in my case when I publish my file locally and then double click directly on the swf file , a dialog will appear saying "Macromedia Flash Player has stopped a potentially unsafe operation.
The Following local application on your computer or network:
"which is my file"
is trying to communicate with this internet-enabled location: download.macromedia.com
To let this application communicate with the Internet, click Settings. You must restart the application after changing your settings"
And after that if I hit settings it takes me to adobe website and asked for the allowing it or not and once I allowed them everything works fine. But the problem might come again if we want to add more files to our project. We want to develop prototype which works on all computers without internet.
Please let me know what are my options. Do i have to code the components instead of dragging them or do I have to do some changes in my settings. I tried both local and network publishing but none of them solves of our purpose building and running the application without internet. I request you to provide me the solution to build my swf file so that swf file will work on any user's computer just by running the file and not allowing or disallowing anything.

Anyone Have .swf File Publishing Issues
Once I publish a swf file from my flash.....and then open the swf...the swf file has an old file that sits ontop of the newly published swf of my current fla file...it's like the old swf file is fused ontop of any current file that I publish. Isn't this WEIRD. Anyone else ever have problems like this. Maybe I just don't know what the hell I'm doing.

Fla File - RAM MONSTER WHEN PUBLISHING
Hi:
I'm working on a 3MB Flash file which is a simulation. Everything works fine until I try to preview or publish. All of a sudden it consumes 272MB of RAM. Finally, it does publish.

Our Tech Guy says "something is wrong with the FLA file". However, I can't figure it out. I'm getting no error msgs in Flash.

I'm trying to publish a file and I can't figure out how to disable the option of "play,stop forword, back" that the swf file can offer when you right click on it.. it's fine when it's a file on my computer, but it gives this options hen it's published on the internet too ...

Publishing To A .mov File Urgent Help Needed
Hi there,
I've got a flash project that involves both motion tweened movement and action scripted movement. When I publish as an swf file it works perfect, but when I try to publish it as a QuickTime movie it only exports the tweened movement and skips the scripted. I have Flash 5 (flash 5 code used, so I can't export it as a previous version) and QuickTime 8 (not the latest version but quite a recent release, still).
Most probably I'm not using the proper options for export/publish, or maybe I need a plugin. I need to have the movie in a DV format so I can import it into a program such as Adobe Premiere or similar.
I'm on a deadline right now and I need an answer as soon as possible.

Publishing As .mov File Makes Echoes...
I've created an MX movie that has a voiceover narration layer to go along with various images as they animate. The movie looks/plays great published as html or standalone projector files for either Mac or PC. I wanted, however, to also publish it as a .mov file, and when I did so--either in the publish settings, or as export movie (from the File pulldown menu), the resulting .mov file "echoes" the voiceover words by having what's said be repeated with about a 1-2 second delay throughout the entire movie.

Can anybody help me figure out why it's doing this/how to fix it?

Publishing Mac Binary File Problem
i have a problem with publishing my homepage
offline in my browser html and swf files work perfect
the index.html is working
flashplayer is working
but
when i upload the files on my ftp server the html file detects and loads the swf file but i can see nothing...path is right...
when i upload the swf file it first appears as a file.swf.bin
with the describtion mac binary file, when i change the sintax into swf, the description changes into shockwave flash, could somewhere there be the problem??

Publishing Html File Problems
Greetings,

I have used Flash 5 to design a small site and have used the publish feature to generate an HTML file. I've uploaded the HTML file to my host,but for some reason the page will not load. There are no problems with my server and my dns settings are pointing to them.My hosting company verifed everything is in working order. They said there is a problem with my HTML file and I can not figure out the problem.I have pasted my HTML file code below. If someone could take a look to see if they can find anything I need to change to make it work I would greatly appreciate it. If there is anything that I can do for you,please let me know.

Publishing And The Resulting Html File
Why does the html file that is generated (when you Publish a movie) have a section in it for text you used in the movie? What purpose does this serve?

I figured out how it's getting in there (the default.html template), and I can remove it (take out the $MT string from the default.html template), but I am trying to figure out why it's even there in the first place. Same with the $MU, who cares what the movie URL is??

Any ideas?

Publishing My File & Popup Window
Hi, I was hoping to get a little help here since I'm kindof new to Flash MX and just flash in itself. My problem has to do with publishing my file and getting it aligned correctly in the browser window.

My index page to my website has a little link that opens up a 640px by 385px browser window that cannot be scaled. I've been trying to fit my movie into that window but somehow I just cannot.

I've tried publishing it in different settings but I don't know which ones to use. I've published my flash project as a .swf and .html file on various options but to no avail.

When it loads up in the 640px by 385px popwindow, the best I got was the movie centered with a border around it, which was not what i was looking for. All I need is to get my flash movie which is also 640px by 385px to fit exactly into the 640px by 385px popup window, if anyone can let me know how to achieve this, I'd really appreciate it, thanks alot.

Publishing Science - Please Clear The Muddy Waters Of Publishing Best Practise
Having been working with Flash now for a few years there is still something that I find unfathomable & hopefully a clear concise reply to this will help me & maybe others.

Question.

What is the best way to publish Flash?

I have always used the percent setting (100%) & made sure that any jpegs I used would be of a quality that will scale up well. I say scale up I use a pretty big monitor I imagine (hope) that if they have to be scaled down they will not look too c**p.

To me there seems to be this elite science among some of the more experienced developers as to how they publish movies. I know the methods of the stage object can come into play such as _width etc., but how the hell do you accommodate all the components of a movie to work out there size & where they should then sit in a browser window? I have checked out other forums posts & articles on this but there seems to a lot of conflicting information.

I have successfully used & understood the swfObject & also have a good handle on HTML having started off programming with that. My best bet is that a movie is published within an HTML frame/table set & the setting of both are tweaked some how. I'm I on the right track & if so what is the current size of browser that I should be looking to publish to?

Publishing Multiple Pngs Or Publishing Movie So It Can Be Imported To Movie Maker.
So I want to enter the Neovision Altador Cup III Contest: "Ready for Fun". I have my animation done in flash, but need to be able to get it into one of the acceptable formats.

.mov, .qt, .mpeg2, .mpeg4, .mpeg, .avi, .wmv, .3gp, and .3gpp

I thought the easiest way would to some how import it into windows movie maker. There I could add sound and compress it into one of the acceptable file formats. Does anyone know how to change swfs or publish movies in a way that could be imported into windows movie maker or to one of the acceptable submission formats.

I have also found that I can publish pngs and import them into windows movie maker. But I can only do one frame in the time line at a time. Seeing as I have probably 800+ frames, is there a faster way to do this?

Flash Publishing
Here is question about publishing a Flash animation on the web. What is the most common player/plugin that almost everyone will have? I put a Flash animation up on the web as a shockwave for my client to preview but they couldn't see it because they didn't have a Shockwave player for the newest version of Flash MX/Flash 6. Should I publish it as an older version, if so which one? Maybe I should have published as a Quicktime movie. Which is perferable? I want to make sure I reach as many viewers as possible.

Also after my client downloaded the newest version of Shockwave when they viewed my animation, it had expanded beyond the set size to the size of the screen and the background beyond the stage was filled with the same background color I assigned the original Flash file.The actual Flash file I had set to 520 x 420 pixels. I had imported the Shockwave centered in a table on a white html page in Dreamweaver.

Publishing A Flash
Hello,
It has been some time since I posted here. Been working
on a new Flash with Flash4. I want to put it on a website
so my son who is overseas can see it. I am not quite finished
so I thought I would ask ahead of time. I use Frontpage 2000.
How do I put it on my website? Do I just copy the html that Flash
makes or is there another way? If I put the html on the website,
will it start automatically when he visits it? I was reading
about using "Display Menu" as a option, but I have never done
this before. Can anyone help with this?

Hi again,
I have had a couple of calls on my Flash movie site.
The only problem is that when you open the site on some people computers they see the html outline around the MC but not the content. Is this something to do with publishing? Has anyone else seem to have this issue also.

Flash Publishing Help?
Hi, I am new to the boards and I wanted to ask a question regarding a constant problem that occurs with Flash versions mx and 8. I am workin on a site with Flash and everytime I test certain pages the actionscript does not seem to work, so if there is an action script telling it to go to and stop at frame 3 it will ignore this and continue going to the last frame on the page....This will occur at random times on multiple pages and have checked the actionscript to see if everything is correct and it appears that it is. In fact sometimes I'll restart the program open the same file and the problem will have fixed itself. From my viewpoint it seems to be some kind of glitch, but I would like to know if this is a common problem and if there is anyway to fix this and or avoid this problem...I must also mention that this problem occurs within Flash and its not smthing that occurs on the web or server the site is loaded onto unless I load the newly published file onto it...Any help would be great! Publishing Flash
I have a flash file that when I test the movie within flash, everything looks great. Then when I publish the file and view it through a browser, things look distorted (on the x axis) and not as crisp.

I'm running Flash 8 (Actionscript 2.0) on a Mac viewing with Safari.

I have the publish settings as:

Dimensions: Percent
Width = 100
Height = 100
Quality = High
Window Mode = Window
HTML Alignment = Default
Scale = noScale

I can include the .fla file if necessary.

Any suggestions?

Publishing To Flash 4
hi all,
i posted on the MX forum, but perhaps this is the better place to ask. I'm working in MX, but I need to publish to Flash 4. My problem is that I need a dynamic text field. I read that in Flash 4 a dynamic text field is just a static text field with the "disable editing" box turned off. However, i can't seem to do this in MX. That box is not on the properties window, which is apparently where it is in Flash 4.

So does anybody know how I can create a dynamic text field in MX that will publish in Flash 4?
