Query
I am trying do this which is really making me mad.
I have a flash file inside which i have drawn a rectangle of 50 by 30.

Now i also have a notepad file in which i have stored a numeric variable containing value 10 & 20.

Now wht i want is tht as soon as i load mmy swf file the rectangle should be drawn of size 10*20 instead of (50 by 30).

This implies tht whenever any value is changed in the txt file it should affect my swf file.

Plz help me out.

I want the menu to play in a 3rd party Movie Clip, hence the ../. The problem I am having is that on (release), none of the actions are working.

I have tried every possible connetation, and nothing has worked. The on(press) actions are working. I am convinced it is something to do with the if statement.

Any help much appreciated.

MP3 Query
Im just learning about music and flash (4/Mac)

When I try to download an MP3 off FK a new window opens showing a QT downloading. But I can't find it anywhere on the computer so assume it hasn't downloaded.

How then do I download?

Also, I want to experiment with music track off a CD. How do I get the track off the cd and into flash?

I have a swf movie which contains several thumbnails. What I would like to do is pass via a query string the name of a swf to display in a popup window depending on which thumbnail is clicked.

The popup window will displays a movie called 'viewer.swf' which contains a preloader and a loadMovie("display_mc", "tiger.swf"); function ...so "tiger.swf" for example is the bit I would like sent from the query string.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am working on a WBT presentation. The whole project is designed in flash and embeded in HTML file.

As per standards, all the slides are loaded behind the template and each operation is well defined by a shortkey (keypress),

SITUATION : The template is equipped with all navigation buttons and fully functionable shortkeys

PROBLEM : The shortkeys defined in the template ie; present inside the movieclip clip clashes with the slide loaded behind the template.

Fps Query
Hi guys,
I have got a fla off a m8 that wants some work done on it. I noticed that he has set the frame rate a 90fps. I have never gone behound 27 myself. Is 90 fps an exceptable frame rate to play flash movies?

FTP Query
This is no big problem, just slightly irritating. I'm using Fetch for FTP to a band site I run. When I open the site Fetch used to automatically download the gigs.html file to my desktop. Now I've renamed the file to gigsf.html I get a message saying 'gigs.html cannot be found'. As I said, no problem, just intested to know how to stop it. Any ideas?

I’m looking at having a file on my sever for download. On my old html site you would be able to click the file name right click it and save as to get the file. What is the alternative of doing this in Flash? Is there some sort of actionscript which could make this behave in the same way?

hay,

i am a software engineer and currently working in (.net) web programming.
i m new to flash action script. last month i started work on it but, i heard that in new web development trend, flash is not recommended. because its file size is greater, and many other things, which does not suits for web sites.
i also heard that flash is going to vanish near future. i know most of the web developers who do not recommend to use flash in web site development. if this is right than what is future of flash. i dont want to discourage any one. infect i also want to learn action script, because i got it really interesting, but i'm little bit confuse about the future of action script in flash.
if flash don't have bright future so what's gonna be with action script in near future.

so is there anybody who can guide me?

MC Query
Please can someone help me. As those who have read my posts before im very new to flash and action script and once again i need help. Thanks to all that have posted replys previously.

I am doing a simple site for a friend (www.readyandwicked.co.uk/raw2.html) and under one of the sections (Events) the content i have is bigger than the screen size. I was wondering if there is a way of placing all the content into a MC and have that to be scrollable with only a section viewable at one time.

Ive tried it on a tester and all the content shows up from the movie clip not just a bit at a time.

Please help and i hope that made sense.

Hi,
I am constructing an on-line portfolio of my work... I would like some of my design work to pop-up into centrally placed windows...
Now, before you think
- not another pop-up window question, why doesnt he just take a look at one of the many tutorials floating about on the web... I have.
And I have downloaded three different Fla's. But the thing is they only seem to pop-up html pages... not SWF's. Seeing as my web site will be constructed with lots of SWf files, how do I link my buttons to centrally placed swf pop-up windows? Or cant I?

XML Query
I've been building a flash file that basically pulls in xml text and displays it in a dynamic field... my query is some of the text I want bold and some normal i.e. like titles to be bold... I was wondering if it was possible to but the html tags in the xml (so <b></b>) without it thinking that the tags were XML nodes? If that makes sense?

Hi

Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking for Google to buy me out, I'm interested in offering a facility for users of a site to view videos I want to upload.

In order to do this, I understand the best format is FLV?

If a user uploads another file format, how does it convert?

i need to pass something through the address bar:

PHP Email Query?
Hey All,

Just wondering if anyone knows in PHP, that when you send an email, to check if the email exists or not..

I have a script here that works fine.

It detects if all the forms are not filled in, it will not send email.

But i would like if it could detect if the email exists all not... weather to send it or not.

If Statement Query?
Ok heres the problem
my preloader contains a movie, in which a graphic moves to five different positions depending on which button is clicked.

the same movie is contained in the scene that follows but i want the graphic to appear in the same place as it was when the preloader ends.

should i give each of the five positions in the preloader a variable term? ie poistion = 1 for position 1, position = 2 for position 2 etc then when the next scene loads find out what that variable is then tell the movie to a position accordingly?

if so then how???? i tried so that in scene 1 it checks, if position = 2 then tell target movie to go to and stop at a certain place but it didnt work. am i on the right lines though?

Which is the most appropriate file format to be used to upload an animation on a free site where we don't know the server that is supporting the site (tripod)?
The file does not seem to appear big enough, it is a tiny thing that plays in the center and does not look striking as it looks in the flash environment.

Simple Query
This is a simple query I am sure - but I have just simply forgotten how to do this.

I have a movie clip on frame 50 of my movie. Frame 50 has a stop action on it so that it effectively loops on the movie clip . The movie clip contains some animation which is 500 frames long. At the end of the 500 frames within the movie clip I have used the following actionscript to get the movie to move on to frame 51 of the movie(which is labelled as MainMenu)

gotoAndPlay("Scene 1", "MainMenu");

but all that happens when I test it is that the animation plays again and again in a loop.

Can someone please tell me how I get the movie to jump to the part of the movie I want it to once the movie clip has reached the end of the animation.

Maxscroll Query
Anyone know about maxscroll? Someone suggested a do while loop to grow a textfield while maxscroll is greater than 1 to get all the text displayed without scrolling.

Seems straightforward enough, but my maxscroll is a bit erratic and keeps on dumping me into endless loops no matter how big I make the field.

Would anyone know if i can 'cut-out' a png image in flash mx without tracing it.

I want to have the quality of a lossless png but not an angular image. If this is not possible then is it possible to specify a particular colour to be transparent?

General Cd Rom Query
i have just demo'd a cdrom project for a client and on taking home the demo he informs me that the sound is all jumpy on his boolsheet machine and images are a bit jumpy too.
I used a pretty high mp3 compression rate (112kbps) and full 100 jpeg rate. is this unadvisable and do people generally put advisory notices for machine spec on cdrom cases?
I'm an artist and animator not really a techy type (no offence) so i've never really crossed this hurdle before.
any advice?

Grab Url Query
(using MX)

I have a flash movie .swf on a web page called page.asp

How can I make it so that when the web page is loaded up with a query string eg:

page.asp?show=all

The variable 'show' and its value are now in the flash file?

I.e I want to have a dynamic text box in my flash move with variable 'show' so if the URL page.asp?show=all then 'all' is displayed in the flash movie and if page.asp?show=none is loaded then the word 'none' is displayed in the falsh file.

Netscape Query
I'm currently updating our web site www.pcrecyclers.net with Flash 6 graphics.

And I've had a few customers contacting me who are having problems veiwing the SWF's in this site . These users are using Mosilla or Netscape.

I've edited these WEB pages in FrontPage and not Dreamweaver, could this be the problem? Or is it because I've rendered the SWF's as version 6?

Excuse my ignorence - as firstly I'm a Graphic Designer and only occasionally delve into WEB design.

Anyway, let me to the problem.

To embed a .swf in in html we use "<embed src=....>"
Whenever I embed a .swf in html using dreamweaver 4/MX it add some other tags. The code ends up like:

i'm new to mx actionscripting, and the event handler particularly, so excuse me asking a very basic question, but:

putting this code on the first frame of a movie clip executes the trace action every frame

this.onEnterFrame = function () {
trace ("test");
}

so, what event handler do i use to execute only when the clip loads (ie replicating the flash 5 'onClipEvent (load)')? this doesn't work:

this.onLoad = function () {
trace ("test");
}
