[MX04] HTML Tags Needs To Be Disabled In Dynamic Html Enabled Text Fields
Hi Buddies,

Am loading some dynamic text from an xml which has html tags inside dat text. I jus loading dat specified texts into a dynamic text fields where html is enabled and assisgned as a htmlText instead of normal text.

It works fine, but the thing is, i want to disable certain html tags to be rendered but it shud display as it is as a normal texts.
Is there any way to do dat

I have loaded an external text file and displayed it in HTML enabled field so I can use HTML. But I need to display HTML tags for example in a place how can I display HTML tags without flash interpreting it as HTML, I tried using <xmp> tag but it didn't work. Also I tried %3C and %3E for the sake of it but it also interpreted it as HTML. The problem is that the remaining text must be in HTML while I have to display this part as an HTML exmaple.

In Flash MX I am developing a lot of movies using dynamically populated html text fields. When the user does not have a font I used on their machine swapping happens on all dynamic and input fields. Only static fields display the corrent font. I make sure the text field properties are embedding the fonts. Still all of the dynamic html text fields do not display the formatted text. I have .fla samples I can email to anyone.

I have tried these macromedia solutions with NO success:

HTML Text Fields
I've been trying to use the HTML tag support in Flash 5. I have a text field, dynamic, drawn to accomodate about 3 times as much as the string I'm sending to it. The String contains <BR>, <FONT> and an <A> which runs an actionscript function. The string I'm trying to send to the dynamic text field is located in the HREF. The problem is, the entire string isn't being displayed. The <BR>, <FONT> and even the hyperlink work and do as they are told, yet the full value of the string won't fully display when the user clicks the hyperlinked text..

Check List:
1) the text is not being cut off by the size of the text box.
2) The Text box has been set to wordwrap.
3) the text is not cutting off as a result of bad HTML
4) when traced, the actualy value passed is cut off, it isn't the result of the text box itself.

I am creating a series of text fields to display data from an xml file.

I can't get the text fields that I am creating dynamically to accept html, why????

I have tried .html = true;

Am I really going to have to create my own button and use getURL?

Hi

I have a site where i can edit the texts online. So one part is the saving part, and there are input text fields. The variables are sent to an php which saves the text into a txt file.

In the regular part the txt are loaded.

But now i want to use HTML code. So in the regular part the dynamic text fields are render text as html is on. In the save part it isn't.

But as i save "<"B">"hello"<"/B">" the text does not appear as bold. In fact the hello dissappears at all.

So if anyone can help me i'd be thankfull

Hi all,
am just having a little problem with some text in flash. There is a text field that loads the text but the issue is the html doesn't display the way it should and on top of that, I have a caching problem with the files. I have deleted files from the server and replaced them with new ones and the problem is that the old text still appears! I am using the loadVariablesNum method and a different page is loaded depending on the option chosen. Is there any little tricks to stop this?

Using HTML In Dynamic Text Fields....help
I have a dynamic text field in my flash movie and am loading an html-coded .txt file into it. The txt file uses HTML to pull jpgs into the text field in order to display a portfolio. The problem is that the jpgs are only aligned vertically. I need them aligned horizontally. I have tried making a table but that doesnt work. How can I make this happen? I know some HTML code doesnt work well in F8. PLEASE HELP!!

I've been able to use some HTML in dynamic text fields, but I havn't been able to place images in them with HTML. Is this possible? If so, how can it be achieved? If not, is there any other way to get an image in there?

Flash MX And HTML In Dynamic Text Fields
I've created an interface for an application that was written in VB. The VB app outputs data to a txt file and is formatted in HTML with rows and columns.
I'm having trouble getting my dynamic text feild to read data in the txt file that is formatted in HTML.
The txt does load, however, the tags are all displayed.

Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this problem?

I’m sure this is a no-brainer, but I can’t see the wood for the trees right now. I’m pulling in some text from an external txt and dumping it into a HTML enabled, multi-line dynamic text field.

I’ve embedded the font’s I require and that doesn’t appear to be the problem.

The text in the txt runs as follows...

(added * above to prevent HTML parsing)

Now, no matter what I do, I can’t get anything passed the end of the first <*/font> tag to display. So in the case of the above, all I get is a correctly formatted…

Sub Head text

...and that’s it. Nothing else.

Any suggestions you could make would be most gratefully received.

Problems Getting HTML To Work In Text Fields
Ok I got my scrollable text fields working, however there not reading the html code as they should. I'm wondering what I could be doing wrong. The "render text as html" option is checked within flash in the properties window and you can take a look at my text files at:

Embedding Fonts In Html Text Fields

Using MX2004 I found the following. If a put a textfield on the stage and set it to html and using the following as
textbox.htmlText = "<b>this is bold</b>"
it works fine

If a embed the font in the textfield the run the same AS the text dissapears?

What am I doing wrong and how can I get past this???

HTML Files Within Dynamic Text Fields
Hi everyone. I'm something of a noob to flash (anything I know is self-taught) and know even less about actionscript, though I do have a basic knowledge of programming.

Basically what I'm trying to do is rig up a dynamic text field to display HTML files in the same folder as the flash file. I would also need vertical and horizontal scroll bars for said text box. Buttons in the flash file would then load different HTML files into the text box.

Like I said, I know next to nothing about actionscript, so I tried copying and modifying some code given in the help file, but it doesn't work, of course. Is there anyone that could give me the scripts necessary to perform the above? I need a script for the initial load, the scroll bars, and the load on button-press, I would assume.

HTML In Dynamic Text Fields. (MX 2004)

I am using a dynamic text field for a news section on my flash site. I am using the following code to load it:

When i run my movie text inside the box comes up but does now show formatted with HTML. The HTML code i have in it to test is:

The text in my box comes out looking like this:

...and is formatted to the left side. What am i doing wrong? I have the html box selected in the dynamic field's properties window.

Also, would this be the same ActionScript i would use if there are image links in the HTML code?

OK, I am having a curious problem with a flash html text field and a link
within that field. To see the exact problem I am having, all you have to
do is create a new flash movie, and paste the following code into the

Now all this code does is create a new text field in the flash movie, make

...so my question, is why doesn't this link in the flash movie work ???
It takes you to the reuters website, which is correct, but it just leaves
you on a blank reuters page that says We're sorry... this story is
not currently available

HOWEVER, if you copy just the link from the above code (or copy it from
the trace window once you run the flash movie - I made it trace for
good measure) and then paste that exact same link into your browser,
you will be taken to the correct reuters page displaying the article in
question.

So my question is why isn't the flash html text field linking correctly ???
Can it only accept links of a certain length or something ?

i am trying to display images inside a text field which flash is reading from and xml file generated from queries ran on a mysql db. the images are showing up after the queries have ran and the paths to the files are correct.

when the xml is parsed by flash where the images are supposed to be i get null written. is it possible for this to be done?

HTML Formatting In Text Fields .... AHHHHG
There has got to be a better way then what I'm doing.
I want to let a user update a portion of their Flash page by using LoadVar and loading from a file the HTML text that is placed into a Text Field.
Problem is that I don't want the user to have to learn HTML formatting or for me to have to do it because its a pain...you know where.

I can type:
htmlText_txt.htmlText ="<P ALIGN="CENTER"><FONT FACE="Times New Roman" SIZE = "24" COLOR="#FF0000"><B>P.O. Box 170 Sheridan, Michigan U.S.A.<B><FONT><P>"

but to do this for each line is a pain...you know where for me or impossible for the person whos site I'm doing.

This then has to be converted to URL Encoding before loaded using LoadVar.

Is there a tool out there to make this ease for us people that don't want to waste the night away just to type in 10 lines in HTML formatting?

Please...LOL. This would be valuable to the user if I could find a easier way.

Links In HTML Rendered Text Fields

Im currently working on a website that uses externally loaded text files, rendered as HTML in flash for a news section. My problem is that i need to add a html link that will open a window whose size can be set.

I can add the link fine but i dont know how to set the window to a specific size. Ive tried using javascript calls but it doesn't work.(for me)

Loading Html From File Into Several Text Fields
I'm making a four column layout with four dynamic text fields and text that loads from a html file. The structure of the site and which html file is to be loaded on which page is specified in xml, but the actual content on each page needs to be editable in separate html files (different people will do the editing, and I don't want them to go around messing with the structure).

The problem is that I need the four columns of text to be loaded from a single html file. I was thinking that I could make four paragraphs <p>paragraph1</p><p>paragraph2</p> etc., one for each column, but how do I load them each into a separate dynamic text field?

It would be great if someone could give me some pointers on how you could do that.

Always Reads Text Fields As HTML Text
I have an input field in my movie that I want to be able to type in a number, and use the number in actionscript.
If I set the variable with actionscript (count=60;) it works, but if I type a number into the textbox and trace the variable it will trace as
<p align="left"><font face="Arial_14pt_st" size="14" color="#000000" letterSpacing="0.000000" kerning="1">60</font></p>

HTML is OFF in the properties panel - also tried setting it to false in actionscript which made no difference.

i spent a whole day seraching the forum for answers. then i found asfunction thinggy.
i tried it a thousand times, but still i doenst work at all. here a my questions, please help me:

i have a dynamic textfield called content ( yes html enabled) which loads txt.files containing one variable called content.
now i do want to load an text.file with a list of names in it. these names should be links. links to other text files which should also be loaded into the very same textfield. this text file(names list) is using the href asfunction thing.
my function:
function updatetxt (who){
loadVariables(who + ".txt", "content")
}
now i do have the following problem:
i figured out how to load the names list into the textfield, but i wont just load the new text into the same textfield on
the first click . Well it works but only when i clicked it a second time.

i am totally new to "scripting" and i am german, if you wanted to know, hehe

Basically like the title says, I have my dynamic fields loading external text files. I have the html formatting working, the basic bold, italics, and stuff.

Basically I am designing a site that will be updated by the customer, but with bad experiences from previous clients they screwed things up a lot and I'd have to go in and fix it. I want to create a site that can easily be updated with text files that they can put whatever they want...

A question though, with html formatting, is there a way to include <a href></a> tags so they can put in their own links? Or is this strictly for text formatting.

Ok, I have a text field with Dynamic text with htmltext on... what I want to do is call an actionscript function when a link in the text field is clicked.

eg. the textfields variable might be:

Coding In Two Html Dyamic Text Fields In Flash
How do I have two html text files I created to appear in flash CS3 using actionscript 2.0. I was able to make one work. But when I tried to add another one, I entered the same code in frame 1 of my .fla file, just changing the symbol names and text name in the coding and niether of them show up. When I take out the other coding that I added the other one works. Do I change the name of the LoadVars function? What do I do?

[FMX2004] Loading Images Via Html Text Fields
I've really hit the wall here... any help would be most appreciated.

I'm builiding a site for a client with the intent of making it as "tweakable" as possible for the client. Basically I have set up a bunch of html text fields which feed from external text files, so the client can write html content.

now the problem, my canvas resizes depending on the amount of html content input into the text fields. Everthing was working fine until I started adding image tags into the html code. When I create my text field and load the html text, the size i am returned is the size of the text field sans the image. If i pause for a second or two and retreive the size again it is adjusted for the image size.

so the obvious solution is track the loading of the images with an onEnterFrame bytesTotal/loaded function but...

is this possible? if i were loading JUST a jpg then i can see how i would use loadMovie to do this but i'm not. does anyone have any experience w/ this?

No HTML Dynamic Text Fields In Duplicate Movie Clips?
I can't seem to get dynamic text fields in duplicated movie clips to read HTML... They just omit that data. When I turn off HTML on the field, it prints the HTML data in the field. But when I turn HTML on, it just omits the tags and everything in them.

HTML Enabled Dynamic Text Fields And Embedding Fonts
I searched past posts and couldn't find this specific version of this problem, so if it HAS been answered before, I apoligize!

So, I have a dynamic text field that I want to embed the fonts in (since it looks so much better). Is it possible to use HTML and embed the fonts? Everytime I use HTML tags, while embed fonts is true, the text between them disappears. If embed is off, it works fine.

The way I'm using the textfield is that certain events set the variable, and when the event is over, it's set back to "". I've tried both a pre-made dynamic text field and also tried using the createTextField function, and had the same results with both.

So really it's just an aesthetic thing. I just want to know if embedding the fonts is possible when using HTML is necessary.

Using Html Links Within Dynamic Text Fields To Trigger Events
If I load a dynamic text field with txt that contains links, is there any way I can trigger a flash event in the current window and read in an id property from the a href?

eg. I have a text file which contains names of other text files, each name is an html link, and when one of these links is clicked I want it to open the associated text file in a different dynamic text field, I'm just not sure how to a) trigger an action on the click of a link in a dynamic text field and b) get a parameter from that click at the same time.

I'm sure this problem has been addressed before but I don't know what to search on to find it. Any thoughts? I'm pretty new to this stuff.

HTML Tags Not Working In Dynamic Text Fields Using LoadVariables....grrrr
Ok, so I've heard that in Flash 4, getting a LoadVariablesNum to properly read HTML tags was a huge...well let's say limited at best. Am I the only one having the same problems with MX??? Please, someone tell me what I'm missing!

Dynamic Text Field, multiline, (selectable), (scrollable)Render Text as HTML, var=Text.

The LoadVariables works fine, but I SEE THE SILLY HTML TAGS along with the text. Flash is NOT reading them as tags.

I also tried to add "instName.html = true" before the LoadVariables....no dice.

The worst part is, that I've gotten this to work on other projects I've done...It seems to work when it wants to. (kinda like me)

Dividing Number X (30, 25, 13, Etc..) Amongst Text Fields (1-100 Fields)
Sorry about the title of this post, but I didn't find it easy to make a descriptive title.

What I'm trying to do, isn't a huge project, and I don't believe it's infinitely complicated. I just can't seem to wrap my head around it at the moment.

Hard enough to explain what I want...

Try to picture this:

Flash file opens up.
There are 6 text fields on the screen.
You enter the number 30 into a text field located near the top and press a button.
The 5 remaining text fields suddenly have numbers in them:Field 1: 30
Field 2:8
Field 3:9
Field 4:3
Field 5:5
Field 6:5

The idea is that I need a piece of code that will divide a variable amount of 'points' between a variable number of text fields. But not only does it have to be divided it has to be randomly and often unevenly divided.

So X = Number of text fields X / 30
Won't bring about the desired results.

I think I can (but haven't tried) divide 30 evenly easy enough, but since thats not what I'm after...

Any suggestions?

Seems to me that the final code will be one of those 'Wonder why I didn't see that' sort of things. But I can't get it.

I am trying to center the text in a dynamic text field that I am populating with HTML tags like below.

subText_mc.subText_txt = "text item<br>text item";

I cant get the text to center when I use the HTML tag, but it works fine when I drop it. Any ideas?

Html In Dynamic Fields
Hi,

I've got a movie with a dynamic text field, loading data from a php file in html format. Problem is that normal text loads fine, but when I try to format into bold with html tags at the php end, no text is displayed within the field.

I've tried to embed both a normal and bold version of the font within the movie, but still the same. One work around I've found is to set the dynamic text field not bold, and then have another dynamic text field on the stage set to bold and the same font, but this is a bit clumsy.

If anyone can shed some light, I would really appreciate it.

1) Is it possible to have an input field being dynamically HTML formatted while typing html tags in it?

2) Is Actionscript powerful enough so that it could append HTML tags on each side of a selected text after a button in pressed? I guess it should partly use Selection.getBeginIndex and Selection.getEndIndex .... and then?

Issues With TextFormats And Html Fields
I'm attempting to make a widget that lets someone entering text change the styles of what they are entering. I was excited to find the textFormat options that allow me to accomplish this much easier that Flash 5, but I'm running into some issues that seem to be a flawed model that MX is using.

1) <b>Flash text looks to the char after the cursor to get style for new text</b>
This is a minor thing, but a userwouldn't expect it to work like that, and I see no way of convincing it to do otherwise...

2) <b>Styles dynamically applied to the field do not show up in the html unless the user types in the field.</b>
This sucks because if the user makes a word bold, the html I get doesn't reflect it. If I start typing somewhere in the field, the html will then appear. Try the show button to see what I mean. (make something bold, click show, then type somewhere in the field, then click show again)

Anyone have any ideas? My next step is to use the XML functions to help me clean up the html so I can store it in a database.

Using HTML &CSS In Dynamic Fields & Popups From A Swf?
I have it set up so that when you go to my site and click on the splash page, the swf pops up in a new window. I need to be able to pop up certain size windows from links within my swf but it doesnt seem to be working. If I try using javascript it either opens in the same window as my swf or doesnt do anything. I need a new window to appear on top which can be a specified size. Any ideas how to make this possible?

Tab Through Flash Fields NOT Html Field
HEllo everyone,
I have an html page.
At the top of the page is a Flash movie with several form fields.
Below the Flash top there is a standard HTML form field in addition to the rest of the html page.

I want to tab through all the Flash fields first and then to the html field.

Currently if U go to any of the fields in the Flash top & then hit tab...the focus always goes to the HTML field in the middle of the page...not to the next field i set up in the tab index.

When tested outside the HTML page the tabbing works in the correct order.

Do HTML fields take precedence in the tab order & is there a way to disable?

I am a bit of an intermediate when it comes to forms but I need to submit certain hidden fields that are in this html in a flash form and I don't know how. I pressume you would specify the hidden form elements as variables in Flash. but I don't really know how to do this or how to submit them variables. Input Fields Interpreted As Html, Not Just The Value
Why is it that, and how can I prevent it, when by assigning a Variable name to a text object [Input Field], a trace of that corresponding variable spits out html including all formatting of the field??

This is especially frustrating b/c I followed the kirupa tutorial on creating an HTTP-POST form in Flash to learn the ropes.

Somewhere I read to use strip_html() in the receiving php script, but that's not the way I want to do it... I think there's got to be a setting or parameter somewhere that's eluding me.

Question About HTML Text Fields
