Question About Creating Full Flash Site Tutorial
I have successfully recreated the full flash site in the tutorial of the same name, and I am now trying to apply what I have learned to my own document. The problem I am running into is with the contents movie clip which will hold the swfs I want to load. The tutorial puts this clip at location 0,0 in the main timeline. I want to have it somewhere else, say for instance x=270, y=175. When I do that I don't see the .swf, however, if I put the container clip at 0,0 I do see my swf, it is just not where I want it. Basically, I want to be able to place an image in a specific place in my movie, not at 0,0. Can anyone help me figure this out.
Also I might want to place this image behind a mask and then use buttons to scroll through the image, is there a way to do this using an external swf?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I read the tutorial on how to create a full flash site: http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/full_site.htm.
I want to know if you can have load another SWF from an already loaded SWF file.
Eg. Say I have index.swf and file1.swf and file2.swf
From index.swf, I load file1.swf into that movie clip ('contents'). I want to put a link to file2.swf on file1.swf, but I want file2.swf to load in 'contents' which is located in index.swf.
How do I do that?

Having recently read the tutuorial on the site I'm attemping to apply my new gained knowledge.
Firstly, let me explain, my navigation is an xml-driven drop down and in such I'm a little confused as to how I assign the actions to open the external .swf's.

OK, so I followed the tutorial on kirupa.com on how to build a full flash site. I've modified it a little to add animations for when all the page elements come in (nav buttons, text boxes, etc). However, after checking and rechecking the code and animations, I'm still getting errors from the buttons that are supposed to load the other swf files. I'm attaching the swf (the fla is too big), email me and I'll send you the fla.

file in "Creating a full flash site tutorial" I keep getting uexpected file format for the .FLA file. None of them seem to work/open for me.

I've never created a full Flash site and really want to. The tutorial on the Kirupa site on Creating a Full Flash Site (http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/full_site.htm) was great but I have a question... probably a stupid question, but I have to ask it anyways. Did you have to create the linked swf files separately? Those pages have fun features on them as well - but since the fla files weren't included in the download - I guess I wasn't sure.
I don't see how they mesh. I'm probably not wording this very well - but hopefully someone will understand.

Scrolling Text - Full Flash Site Tutorial
Hi
Under the Flash MX tutorials, there is a tutorial entitled "Full Flash Site". The tutorial was very helpful and easy to follow, howerver, one of the pages showed a scrolling text box; the "Locations" link. I was wondering if anyone could show me how to do this. I can create scrolling boxes with Flash's standard components, but they are not anywere near as nice as these ones.

Creating A Flash Site In Full Browser Screen
I am really new to flash design and was wondering if someone could help me with a few quick questions...
1. I am looking to learn a few things about flash, and try designing a site for fun. When I start a new flash file, it asks you how big you want to make it... (pixels/pixels). I was just curious how I specify to make a site full screen. Like the ones that I've seen. ...like where an animation can move from one side of the screen, all the way to the other. Like this one.

2. I only have photoshop. I understand a little bit about graphics in Bitmap, and Vector. I understand that obviously vector is the best (maybe only way?) way to go in Flash. So that you can zoom, and slide, and magnify etc. Right? ....my question is, how do I make these Vector graphics in Photoshop? Everything I seem to make, gets fuzzy when I change it's size, and that won't work.

Creating Navigation Layer For Full Flash Site

This is my first post on this site, so I apologise in advance if it's not in the correct area or my terminology is a little sketchy as my Flash knowledge is quite limited.
I followed the tutorial on creating a full flash site ([http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/full_site.htm) and it was extremely useful. However, when I followed the tutorial I only used one button as a test as I don't know how to create the navigation layer with all the buttons.
I only want to have a horizontal menu with about six options where the text itself is the button...in other words, I don't want any images behind the text etc as I don't want anything fancey for the menu. I have attached a screen dump of what I'm after.
Are you guys able to explain this to me in fairly detailed steps or create another tutorial for before people view the full flash tutorial?

I'm in the process of building a full flash site.
At the moment my site is just bits and pieces of different movieclips. I will definately load external .swf's to my main movie to keep it's size down and to make the site run smoother.
The site will have 24 fps (the site animation is supposed to move fast and smooth).
In order that the site will run smoothly I'd like some suggestions on how to avoid slowdowns.
My site will contain multiple movieclips (from different .swf files working together and displayed together at certain times and they contain motion tweens, alpha fades, masking and scrollbars containing long texts. The site will have photos, ie .Jpg/.Png, but thay are going to remain static.
Naturally I'd use a preloader for each .swf file used in the site.
What requires more CPU usage ? motion tweens or shape tweens ? Does frame by frame animation take less CPU usage ?
ANY suggestion would greatly be appreciated, Please do suggest !

Having Problems Doing The Full Flash Site Tutorial In Flash 5
I'm at the point where I'm trying to put code in the buttons using a movie I created.

When I press the button I get an error and also its pointing to the wrong folder for the movie.

'Full Site Tutorial' - Need Some Help
Hi, This is my first post here, though I have been visiting the site for quite some time now, its very helpful to someone like me, trying to learn some Flash on my own.
I need some help with the 'full site' tutorial featured on this site, can anyone help me with this, wld really appreciate it.
I am trying to make a site based on this tutorial, with the load movie action code. I have my 4 buttons that have the load movie action given to them. Problem is, 2 of the external swfs are loading and displaying correctly (in the empty movie clip), but the other 2, the ones with the percentage preloaders in them (the other 2 swfs have no preloaders) are not, all I can see is the % at 0(zero), it seems to be stuck there. This means the movies have loaded, but are not going beyond the preloader?
What cld be wrong? Does anyone know how to fix this?

Help With Full-site Tutorial Needed...
I downloaded the full-site tutorial folder, and noticed that the icons for the external swf. look differen't than the icons of the swf's I exported from FlashMX to Dreamweaver. Is there an explanation for that?
I made a movie following all the steps in the tutorial, using my own images, and I just can't get it to work in Dreamweaver!
All the files are in the same map: swf., html., and fla. I've been working on this for days and even though I followed the tutorial very carefuly.....
Well, I just don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Method Of Creating Full Site, Is This The Best Way?
Hello all,
This isn't so much a how-to question but a "is this the best approach" for what I am wanting to achieve.
We have already designed the site and are ready to build and we have came up with a "method" of fixing a few problems we have encountered with the old company site, I just want to know if there is a better way of achieving what we want to achieve.
A bit of background (excuse my messy terminology, I prefer to talk english rather than tech speak):
My company built our last company site entirely in Flash, you had a main holder movie with animation, menu and background music. When a link was clicked a movie was loaded into a content holder (like small movies in a larger movie).
This caused us a few problems such as:
1. Search engine spiders could only browse and index the main page
2. Users could not jump to a specific page via the URL, we were not passing Flash Vars
3. Updating content was a bit awkward, we weren't connecting to any DB's
As you can probably tell, by the "bad practices" we were using, were were kind of young to Flash back then.
Now we have matured and feel it's time to build a new site that is a league above our current one and too put right the things we messed up before.
So, what we are trying to achieve.
We want the site to be full flash and seamless, we want the content to be somewhat dynamic. But we also want to be able to do a few other things:
1. We want people to be able to jump to a specific page from the URL, so if they type in our domain name they get the homepage, if they type in say about.php the movie will load the about us page.
(note we want this to be seamless, not interfere with the background music etc.)
2. We want search engine spiders to be able to index every page on our site
3. We want to be able to load any type of content... text, flash, graphics, forms etc.
This is how we plan to achieve the first two things, the third is covered by this also, but we know how to include any type of content into a flash movie.
Our Method
We will have several different files:
A series of page files (.php files), for example; index.php, about.php, services.php, contact.php etc.
A template HTML file
A content.php file
The .php files are simply "handle files", they exist soley for search engines to have logical files to index and so that users can access specific pages using logical addresses.
Each of these .php files have some variables in them, an ID which is the name of the page, the appropriate page title, meta tags etc.
The template HTML file is a regular HTML file which is parsed by the .php files I mentioned before, the page title and meta tags are inserted by the PHP script.
The HTML file as a template contains the HTML for the main page layout, the flash header (graphics, menu and background music controls) at the top, an IFRAME below it and some HTML based links and the site copyright/legal info at the bottom.
There is some Javascript for the IFRAME also, so the IFRAME will automatically be the same height as the content (so the IFRAME will be invisible).
The IFRAME SRC is content.php which has a variable passed to it in the code (which is generated by the page php scripts first mentioned).
The content.php file collects the variable and loads the appropriate flash movie into itself for that content. Or HTML or whatever that specific page requires.
The completed output gives a site that has HTML surround, a Flash header and Flash content contained within a IFRAME. The HTML links at the bottom would reload the page entirely, but most people probably wouldn't use them, most importantly spiders would be able to see those and index the pages index.php, about.php etc.
The Flash menu simply loads content.php?whateverpageweneed into the IFRAME target. So users would be seeing what looks like a full flash site, but in reality it would not be a full flash site, it would be more of a hybrid site that overcomes the search engine indexing problems you can encounter with a full flash site.
index.php, about.php etc. would all have their own titles, meta keywords, descriptions etc. also so they would be indexed correctly.
I know this will work (technically it will achieve what we want) but is there a better way of achieving what we need?
Ideally we would want one flash movie that loads movies into it, no IFRAMES and messing around like that.

Parameters For Creating A Full Stage Site
Hi guys,
Id like to have a little discussion about the proper way to set up the parameters in the Flash IDE for making 100% stage width/height sites.
-What size to make the dimensions on the document properties?
-What size to make the header, footer and content? ( I know this will vary per project, but still, theres gotta be some defaults)
-How to properly set the elements on the Flash IDE Stage for proper re-positioning on Stage resize event?
-Is it better to keep everything in the library and just attach it, rather than placing elements straight on the stage?
This is all I cant think of now, but I would like to clear this up since Ive made some full screen tests and I never seem the results I want. No sense in giving the examples, since I am not referring to a specific example, but I am looking for a "template" that will work everytime.

Question About The "Full Flash Site" Tutorial...
Just worked through the tutorial (I'm pretty new to anything other than basic tweening in Flash), and I had a question about it.
In the tutorial, we simply load the movies in... but why do we never unload them when we switch to another "content movie".
For example, when we click the music button, we load the music.swf file. When we click another button, why don't we unload the music file before loading in our new swf?
Or is it unnessecary to do this in Flash?
Just curious, cos it's conflicting with my Programmer side to leave unused/unneeded resources loaded...
Full Flash Site - Site Architecture Problem
Sorry for this post, but i'm really having trouble grasping the idea of multiple clips, transitions and the scripting to make it all happen.
I have been fiddling with flash for over 3 years now and should be alot farther along, I just wish i had spent as much time on flash as I have on Photoshop.
I now have my own domain, and want to make a fully flash site, as imageReady rollovers just don't get it for me anymore and I want to make a nice site with some impact...queue the flash guru's

Creating A Full Flash Website.
Hello, I am new to Flash, well, somewhat. I know how to do the basic things, but I have never messed around with Actionscript, or anything like that. What my goal is, is to create a personal website for myself in all Flash. The problem is.. I don't really understand how to link all my FLAs together, and I am not really sure on how to create all of the animations I want. I mean, on sites like 2advanced, did they actaully motion tween all of those animations when the page loads, or when you click a button for a different page? Guess i'm just a little overwhelmed by it all, but any help is very much appreciated. Thanks!

i'm in the process of working on my first full flash site in mx. i'm using the gotoandplay function to divide my site into pages, each of which opens with a motion tweened animation. when a page is open and another is selected the open page simply disappears and the new animation begins to bring in the new page. is it possible to attach an animation onto the page which is closing aswell as the openinig page, if so how would i go about doing this. i will attach the .fla to show what i have done so far in case people dont quite understand my question.

All I read, from the pros, is that meta tags are not read by the majority (if not all) of the search engines out there any more.
