Flash :: Quickest Way To Learn Flash From Scratch?

Why Is It So Hard For Me To Learn Flash From Scratch?
Hi, I really wanted to learn to create cool and
complex animations on the web. I have created a
website, but it lacks animation. I started to learn Flash 5,
but the looks of things I don't know where to start and I can't
figure out - I really want to jump from learning Actionscript
without trying the basics. Weird isn't it?

And there's this program called Swish, it's a cool
program. You can create effects in seconds.
I tried it for some time. But it's limited of what it can do.
I even brought this when I was interviewed for a job and
I failed miserably because I don't know how to create animation
from Flash, The swish program for them is only for KIDS.
I got frustrated of how poor I was in learning Flash, I can't
blame Macromedia for not-so having a user-friendly interface, or
it's just me? I uninstalled the SWISH program, luckily I downloaded
an evaluation version and never touched it again.

I know I'm capable of creating complex animation and good
movies in Flash. But I don't where to know where to start
and how to piece them together.
I even bought a book of Teach yourself Flash 5 Advanced,
and still got no results.

I really need some good advice guys please!

I envy all of you guys for learning any version of
flash so easily!

Quickest Way To Stop Downloading
I have a main movie loading submovies on demand to save download time. The submovies are loaded into empty clips. If a submovie is loaded into blank clip but hasn't completely downloaded yet, what is the quickest way to stop it? I assume unloading it from the clip. When I watch the traffic on a dialup I see the submovie continues to download for a short time after being unloaded. Any way to stop that?

Quickest Route From One Angle To Another
I'm want to tween (using TweenLite) the rotation of a MovieClip to match another clip's rotation. But, because rotation is cyclical and tweening just adds or subtracts to reach its target, this is causing some objects to go "the wrong way around" when spinning. e.g if clip1 has rotation 0 and clip2 has rotation 350, the tween will go all the way up to 350 instead of taking the shorter route to -10 degrees.

Is there a class, or does anyone have a code snippet, which will help me determine whether to tween to a positive or negative angle?

Flash Scratch Cards
Hi,

I'd like to create a scratch card in Flash 5. I'm having difficulties revealing the image underneath to simulate the user scratching to top image off. I can easily do this in a java applet but wanted to produce one in Flash. I was hoping to do this with a mask but am having difficulties doing this. Any help would be much apprieciated.

Quickest Way To Stop A Movie Load
I'm building a flash that loads and unloads movies into empty clips for efficiency. To keep the site loading as fast as possible there are times when I load a movie but the user clicks on something else and I want to stop that loading. I naturally assumed that unloading that movie would stop it instantly but it doesn't. The dial-up connection continues to download for a few seconds after the movie has been unloaded from the clip in the flash. Do you know what I'm talking about? Is there any faster way to stop a loading movie?

Quickest Way To Animate A Sock Puppet
Greetings! I have a project I'm working on in which I need to animate a sock puppet. I need to control the look of it pretty closely. The ideal thing is to do some sort of illustrator live trace on a video file. I want it to be vectorized with 3-4 layers, with some eyes and facial features I'll add on in flash. As far as I know, Illustrator can only work with 1 frame at a time, per file, which would be burdensome to say the least.

I suppose a similar idea would be the ipod silhouette effect, but on a sock puppet and with additional layers of highlight, midtone, & shadow. Is there an easy way to do this in flash? Let me know if you need any more information to clarify my problem. Thanks.

Quickest Way To LoadMovie() Many .swf Objects (cachability?)
I'm making a site that allows you to click on a t-shirt design, then in the preview page that allows you to "add to cart" you are given the opportunity to change the color/style/size of the shirt. The problem is there are over 20 colors of shirts, and it takes forever to load the animation.
The way it is set up now, all the shirts are in the animation, and the animation calls on the specific t-shirt design/slogan based on the slogan you click on. So now we're starting with the 20 shirt colors, and 1 slogan. The shirt colors are in .png format, but I'm planning on changing them to .swf movies, so I can import them dynamically and maintain transparency.

What I want to do is make the page load as quickly as possible. Once a .swf file has been called into an animation, does that put it in cache? Or will I still have to wait for each item to load. Mainly because I am trying to decide if I should just load all of the colors first so they change fast, or if I should let them load as the person requests them.

Any useful tips?

Flash Quiz/Survey From Scratch
Hello all,

I'm starting a project this weekend and i'm looking for some good resources (sample .flas or tutorials) for a not that simple Flash Quiz/Survey. I have found examples of Quizzes (is that a word?) that calculate percentage but none so far that do this...

Question 1: "How many times a week do you visit Flash Kit?"

<radio button 1> "1-2 times"
<radio button 2> "3-5 times"
<radio button 3> "6+ times"

<SUBMIT>

Note: Multiple Choice Answer - All answers are correct - (like a survey).
Then comes the tricky part (for me)...

When the viewes selects an "answer" they are taken to a "Tip" page that "evaluates" how they answered the question and provides a tip based on that answer.

So, if the viewer selected <radio button 3> "6+ times a week" they get a "Tip" that says...
"Wow you must like it there - it's a good resource place and community".

But, it doesn't end there (oh no)...

On the "Tip" page the viewer is then asked another question (boolean)...

"Do you use other Flash web sites like actionscript.org to find info?"
<radio button true> "Yes, I do"
<radio button false> "No, I don't"

<SUBMIT>

There will be 5 questions in total - All with this same format.

All of the viewers responses for the 5 questions, tips and sub-questions are recorded and sent to a "results page". This results page then can be reviewed and printed as a desk reference.

One additional item: Originally the project scope was to be linear-based (Question 1 > Tip > Tip Question > Question 2 > Tip > etc... > Results)

Now, it has to be set to allow the visitor to select which question they want to answer (in any order) - Allow them to check their results, go back and change their answer etc. etc.

So, any help - pointing me in the right direction for some sort of tutorial or source code on this would be great. Thank you in advance.

New To Flash, Trying To Self-learn
Before I edited the .fla file, the movie would work when I clicked on the executable file. Everything worked ok. Then I edited the .fla file to make updates. Now when I click on the executable file I get a box with a big blank white rectangle and above it it says Flash, then file, view, control, help. Why doesn't the program run anymore and how can I fix it?

Most of what I find is for Flash 8. I have yet to find any tutorial to make a map like map quest that I can grab move and zoom

I am a decent ColdFusion developer and am looking to learn Flash. Anyone have any recomendations on where to start? I used a Forta book to learn CF way back when but I don't think he has a Flash book. Also, being that they are both Macromedia products I have read that these two integrate fairly well. I am a video person who wants to become a flash person. I know how to use a commputer, but would like to learn flash basically from scratch. Could anyone point me in the right direction to go about that? (I have the software)
