Created A Funny Flash Movie That You Want To Show Off?
I'm looking for swf files of amusing short Flash animations to show to under 16 year olds (so must be relatively clean!). If you have any work which you would like to contribute for us to analyse and be inspired by, it would be greatly received!

If poss, I would prefer seperate swf files rather than url links incase we are unable to access certain web pages.

Funny Blip In Movie Clip Transition
ok ....

i am using the load movie command
when you roll over a button... to load an image on the stage..

im using it like this

on (release) {
gotoAndPlay("blah", 1);
}
on (rollOver) {
loadMovieNum("WATCH.SWF", 3);
}
on (rollOut) {
loadMovieNum("watch2.swf", 4);
unloadMovieNum(3);
}

when this happens....
i get a funny blip of the stage (wich is not desired)
then ..
my fade out which is watch2.swf plays ..
amd my watch.swf is unloaded...

can anyone help with the blip portion..

i want to roll over ...and image fades in ...
roll out ...and the same image but a different clip
fades out with no blip...any help??????

I've been doing stuff in flash for a while, but i wouldn't call myself good, i don't know much about actionscripts i just test myself forward and try to live on my creativity..

What Flash Plug-ins Do You Recommend?

I have been using Red Giant's Text FX plug-in for Flash to easily create text FX for a while now. It's a discontinued product, however, and it won't work in Flash CS3.

What plug-ins do you recommend for Flash?

I've downloaded an app called Text-Osterone. It's not a plug-in, but is a standalone product that outputs Flash.

I've also found PJ Components, but I haven't checked it out yet. It doesn't seem like they offer a demonstration version and I don't know if I want to pay money before trying it.

Recommend To A Friend Through Flash?
Hi all,

Im tryin to put a 'recommend to a friend' input box in my flash movie where the user enters a friends email address, hits a button and a message gets send to that email basically saying 'your friend blar has recommend this site to you, blar blar blar'

So far I have an input box called 'friend', and a button.....what's the rest?

Someone else is doing the backend that'll email it out, so I just need the bit that checks that a valid email has been entered in the friend box, and the code that'll export the value of friend.

Also..if at all possible....when it checks the email, can I set it up so it checks for webmail addresses like yahoo.com, hotmail.com, etc etc?......the client doesnt want people to be able to enter these sort of address......or is that separate code?

I recently purchased Flash MX. I would consider myself to be an intermediate Flash 5 actionscripter. I am looking for an intermediate to advanced Flash MX actionscripting book. (I loved Colin Moock's "Actionscript the Definative Guide" for Flash 5. Has anyone read his new MX version?)

Can Anyone Recommend A Good Flash Book?
I've finished reading "SAMS Teach Yourself Macromedia Flash MX" (even though I'm using Studio 8 but I've coped ok) by Phillip Kerman, and I was hoping that after I finished it, I'd be able to produce a finished website without much fuss.

Unfortunately, that's not the case. I know the basics of Flash, drawing, animation, timeline, layers etc and how to use these relatively simply tools to create a reasonably good looking, albeit simple movie.

The book itself was a big disappointment, written in a really tedious way and frankly I feel I want to know so much more but I wasted £20 on it.

It might just be me but I still lack the ability to create more than a simple non-linear movie. I have to create a website for my company before the end of March. I'm really frustrated at the moment, I've just tried to create 4 sample "proof of concepts" so the boss can choose, but I can't even do that at the moment! It took me an hour to make a scrolling movieclip for example, and that was following a tutorial on Flashkit http://www.flashkit.com/tutorials/Ac...1174/index.php

You might be thinking "well can't he just use these tutorials and use those skills to create something himself", but I dont know where I'm supposed to start! I have plans, storyboard, and scribbled diagrams of the website, and I dont even know where to begin in making it!

If someone can recommend me a book that'll be more helpful, or even just offer some friendly advice (I'm sure lots of people might have started out like me), I'd be really grateful.

Flash Login Security - What Do You Recommend?

I'm building a Flash database driven website (mysql, php, flash). On entering the site you have a guest page, with a section to either login OR create a new account. Now say a person enters his correct username and password, he would then be directed to the Members page.

Where should the Members page reside:

1. The members page should be on the next frame on the current timeline. So, if the user is successful, use gotoAndStop(nextFrame).

OR

2. The members page should be an external swf, loaded into the main swf. So, if the user is successful, use loadMovie("membersPage.swf").

What approach do you recommend for more security/performance?

Does anybody know a good tutorial for setting this up. I want the user to be able to enter a friends email address and send it. Then the email address is stored on a database and an html letter is sent to the friend.

Flash *.fla Acting Funny.. Is It Too Big?
I am doing a pretty big project. But the project is all within 1 *fla file.

Today the file was acting weird. I ran the movie, and it did not run. When it did run, it returned 1500 errors in the action script, and none of the links worked.

Can anyone tell me if I should break the project down into different *.swf files, then load them in order?

Or can I do everything under one *.fla file??

Flash MX 2004 Acting Funny
I use Flash MX 2004 Pro running on Panther 10.3.2 and I had to do a new install. I kept my users but When I went to use Flash. My time line is acting funny. Lines are not being drawn in between frames and it's just acting weird. Can I trash my Preferences? Or Do Something....

Flash Text Funny On Some Computers
Hi Guys,

We have designed a nice website using some flash on CLICK HERE and for the menu buttons we use a font called silkscreen. On some computers it looks real nice and crisp while on others it is practically illegible. Im using flash MX by the way and chose dynamic text (as otherwise is fuzzy).

Is there anyway to use that font and still make it look nice on all machine without converting the whole thing to gifs???

Flash Acting Funny In Browser
Howdy

Almost finished on my new site, and now suddenly everything seems to fall apart. When I test my movie in Flash itself, everything is fine, but the moment i test it in browser:
1.) Button rollovers doesnt work anymore, heres the code that I use for them:
_root.news.rightbox.wallpaper.b1024.onRollOver = function() {
_root.news.rightbox.wallpaper.b1024.gotoAndPlay(2);
};

2.) My movie does not navigate properly, after clicking about, it wont load home again.

Anyone got a clue if this could have anything to do with the embedding of the swf or maybe even something with the flash player I have installed.

Any help appreciated.

Flash Acts Funny On Internet Explorer 6....
Before I installed IE 6.0, the music on my webpage, http://www.scaryman.com worked perfect. Now that I have IE 6, it won't even load the movie, can someone view my site if you have IE 6 and see if the music shows up? I need to know whether to change the movie, the html file or just find me another server....

Oh and if you think you know what's wrong, hit me up.

When i type things like % and & in the text file it doesnt appear properly in the dynamic text box in flash, is there someway i can fix this?

Make A Funny/ghetto Looking Flash Animation Contest
OK this one's just for fun...

Here's what you gotta do.

1.) Visit http://selfactualized.com/british.html

2.) Download the zipped source file at the top, which also includes a jpg of the original pic to use, and some stupid sound clips/animation.

3.) Create an animation using the picture of the british guy/kid given. Try to keep your design time around 1 hour, so that it keeps the movie short and gives them their "ghetto" Flash flavor.

Note: The british guy must talk using the link provided to the Natural Sounds web site. Use the "Charles" sounding voice, which is the UK british male voice.

For ideas on how the contest should go, check out the other animations on the page.

Recommend A Good "starting Out" Flash Creation Program?
I am about ready to start out.. I've never created a flash object in my life, and I need to modify one this weekend.

It's just a simple modification (I think), that will involve changing the color of a flashing button.

Can anyone recommend a decent "flash editor" to do this work? I prefer as low cost as possible, since I'll only really use it to make very simply modifications to existing flash files. (Like the change I described.)

When you open the site, there's a really sweet slideshow. I've been able to replicate the sliding action and I can click on each image to take me to a new URL, but I can't get it to automatically rotate on it's own. The numbers are fine, but I'd also like to add next/prev buttons.

Like I said, I got it scrolling, I just don't know how they're controlling theirs. I think I'm just doing it all wrong. How would you go about doing it? TIA!

Can Someone Recommend An XML-based CMS?
Morning all,
I've been getting to grips with loading XML data into Flash (I'm publishing to player 6 at the moment) and I'm now looking into building a content-management system to allow the user to update their own site. I've written some basic things myself in PHP which work fairly well for updating plain text, but I'm looking to take the functionality to the next level so that they can add links, format the text and add pictures.

Since this is beyond my current abilities and I can't afford to invest the time at the moment to develop it, I'm wondering if there exists a software package (preferably opensource or freeware) that will give me this functionality?

Recommend A AS3 Book?
hi guys,

i'll be honest, i haven't touched flash or actionscipt for well over as year in depth; since AS2 for sure. i have a few modules at uni this year that i won't be able to blag with code snippets from the net, so i'm after a book i can get into in front of the fire once the cold winters nights begin to draw in.

i'd be more interested in web applications, working with xml and anything related to visualization and web mashups, rather than any type of animation or games programming. i think flex is a long way off yet, so nothing to do with that just yet thanks

i'd say i have a fairly good grasp of code, having worked with php, coldfusion, and jquery quite a lot recently. but i'd say i'm more of a designer than a developer.

I've read some reviews of AS 3.0 books on Amazon and some of them say that the books go into coding for Flex and AIR, and don't really relate that well to Flash. What I'd really like to do is get stuck into learning AS 3.0 in Flash CS3.

If you know of any really good books, could you post them here?

Also, any on-line tutorials that you've found helpful would be great.

For my website of the week feature I need a funny Flash movie to show my students as a treat. I would prefer it if it was accessible for deaf people, ie have subtitles, like the Weebl and Bob stuff which is perfect but I have overused.
