How To Reduce File Size? - HELP
Hi,
My movie: http://www.OPRNY.com/Flash/Promo2.html loads very slowly since it is over 12000 KB.

This movie: http://www.StreetFlyers.com loads much quicker since it is only about 1200 KB.

My movie has more tweens and graphics, etc. - how can I make the file size smaller?

How Can I Reduce This File Size Of This?
hello everyone.

i have a short animation with a few layers, a few keyframes and some tweening.

the file size is 46k and i think that means about 9 seconds to load (?maybe?)

is there any way anyone can see to reduce the file size? with or without significantly altering the animation.

am i being wasteful / could i reuse items to save space. 46k just seems quite a lot!

How Do You Reduce The SWF File Size?
Hi. I have created several flash files for work and I need to change the file size for publishing. As it is right now the file size is about 1.5 MB for each file and I need to reduce that to 1MB or lower since people are going to be viewing them in HTML.

One thing about these flash files is that each one contains about 100 JPG Images. Hence, I tried to reduce the JPG Quality to 90% in the Publishing Setting and the resulting size was about 600KB! I would stick with this but I need the JPG Quality at 100%. Is there any program, or method that can be used to achieve a file size of >1MB?

On the side note, I would like to make this project streamable but I do not know of any program that would achieve this. If you know any, just post it here

Can I Reduce The File Size Any More?
Hi I am wondering if I can reduce my file size any more. It is still pretty high at 285 kb. I have tried a few different things: compressing the file on export in flash, not compressing the export and using software to compress it. Deleting some files within the image library. Is there anything else I can do without loosing to much quality. I need to keep it as a swf file because it is going to be in my website template. Can Someone Help Me Reduce My File Size?
Hey, I just launched JoystickAdventures.com and the first thing most dial up viewers said was that the top banner takes a long time to load on their connections.

Now I've looked over my FLA and for the life of me, can't understand why it would be such a hefty file size.

How Do I Reduce The Size Of My Movie File?
Besides optimizing the file, is there any way to reduce the size of my movie. I use mostly letter morphing that leads to a menu, so I don't think that I can split it into scenes. The site is:

PNGs - Does It Help Reduce File Size/load Times?
Hello,

Does taking several hundred assets & converting to one large PNG (then splice in Fireworks) help when used on a page for internet as far as making it easier to download or making it more stable instead of several hundred assets to download in Flash?

I did try it and the load time file size appears the same, visually it looks the same but now I hardly have any assets to load. Is there a benefit to doing it this way? And are there any special settings to use when using PNGs for the internet. Can old/new computers see them the same way?

Does ActionScripting Movement For A Movie Clip Reduce File Size?
I'm new to using ActionScript and decided to go back to an older project and control the movement of some of the bigger bitmaps using scripts instead of tweens. Upon saving however, it didn't seem like it saved me anything in the file size dept to do this (even though it worked just fine) which surprises me since it seems like removing keyframes and tweens would do this. Does anyone have some insight on if and how ActionScript can be appled to reduce overall file size?

Reduce Size Of Swf?
WOW I finanally finished my high dynamic menu. I've uploaded the new site and what??? It takes very long before I see something and it is not possible to view the whole site anymore!!!

FIRST: is there a possibility to reduce size of swf to download: (It is now 849 sec...and about 3KB. On the start page I have 4 different SWF in four frames

SECOND: if this is not possible I probably have to make a preloader to get all bytes first and put the customer through to the site??? If yes is the answer what is the actionscript to use to sent the customer to the site wich is an htm-page. But even then download time will be to big.

I hope somebody can help

How Can I Reduce The Size Of My Webby? Pls Help
Im still a bit of a n00b to all this web design lark so go easy on me
after much trial and error i have finally created my first cool webby (in my humble opinion) However, it is currently around 2megs in size and still not completed.
What is it that takes up all the space?
What is the best file format for my pictures?
What would be the best file format for sounds? (which i hope to add)
Any other tricks i should know about?

Also, there is a link to my old webby on it which is on the same ftp server and folder. as far as i know it shouldnt be preloading this, but even so, will having it all in my folder slow my site down?

Reduce Movie Size
I have seen a no. of sites for eg The new MercedesBenz - E-class site
where they have used huge no. of high quality big photos. Instead
of that the site downloads very fast.
But in my case the intros where I have to use multiple photos is
always attaining a size of 1mb, which takes considerable amount of time and thus creating a problem for us who have poor internet bandwidth.

Reduce First Frame Size
First of all - is this normal? I've been using flash for a while, but I'm only now really digging down into it.

I have a small movie and my first frame is about 5k, so the preloader doesn't show up until about 30%/40% (testing on low bandwidth).

Reduce Embedded Font Size
I am embedding times new roman font for scaling charcters. The times new roman font is about 400kb in size and I do not want to end up having hugh binaries just for fonts. Now I have only a few special symbols which I want to scale and not all of them. Hence I want to use embedded fonts for only those characters and use normal fonts for other characters. Can someone please suggest how this can be done.

Reduce Movie On Stage Size
Below is the coding for 3 frames(not the Flash time frame) webpage.

Below highlighted in red & bolded is the main page in which I have to change frequently. What frustrate me is I have no idea how to change the movie size(not capacity). E.g. "newmap.swf", the map I created using background size 440w x 400h pixel is too big when I post it at main page. Re-create new map with smaller size?? I spent much effort & time! After complete a movie the size can be reduced?? Have to adjust all the texts n images!

I know how to use the "embed" code like <object width="550" height="400">..., but when it mixes with other frames in a window, this method can't be used.

[F8] 16MB Image Gallery; How To Reduce Size?
Hello,
Recently I created an interactive customer guide that contains an externally-loaded SWF movie which holds a click-through image gallery. On the web the gallery takes forever to load due to its huge size of 15.9 MB which I had not looked at or considered before, unfortunately. The JPGs have even been published at 50% quality which only reduced the movie by 1 MB or so.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to reduce its size without having to redo the entire gallery. The images are all imported JPGs. It is not that big of a gallery, however when I imported each image I brought them in at their full sizes and then scaled them down in Flash.

I tried scaling them down in Photoshop and then importing them into Flash but they come into Flash extremely tiny for some reason. So instead I did as I stated above with bringing them in full size.

Even though they are scaled down, is this why the SWF is so large? How do I resolve this?

How To Reduce Full-size Image In Flash Photogallery
I tried my hand at building a photogallery following along Colin Smith's "How to Wow" in Flash. Everything seemed to turn out great except when I click on a thumbnail to show the full size image, it appears bigger than the stage so you only see a part of it. I have tried reducing the size of the image in photoshop and replacing the original library image...no use. Can anyone suggest how to fix this so that it will show a image no bigger than the stage? Reduce Your .SWF File Sizes By Up To 30% W/out Losing Quality
Hey There...

There is a small chance that this might be stated somewhere else on this forum, but haven't had the time to sift through, so I'll risk the repeat.

I found this method by fluke actually, but the results amazed me that I had to share, with this great site.

Its simple

ALL!!! Images used in a flash movie (Photos, JPG's, GIF's) etc, should ALL be converted to PNG-24 in photoshop. DO NOT import JPG's into flash movies, it takes up so much space.

On export using the PNG-24's in your movie, it can reduce it by up to 30% I was doing a flash movie that was 480kb using 5 Jpg's and now with PNG-24's (same quality) at 90% of export in flash, it is 295kb.

Try for yourself

NB: Also, PNG's can keep the drop shadow effects, blur effects etc, whilst importing in flash, which means u can change your movie colour, without having to remake your image in photoshop. Just export it with a transparent background in photoshop

Unchecking Export In First Frame For Components Does Not Reduce Frame 1 Size
Hey all...

I have a movie all finished up, but for some reason, frame1 is still 56K...I have deselected all "export on first frame" checkboxes, but it seems the component export classes are still loading in frame one...even the Flash help says to simply uncheck export in frame 1 in the linkage settings, but it still is not working...any ideas?

I googled it and it seems a lot of components tend to mysteriously use frame one even with the export option unchecked...if anyone has any info on how to remedy this, please let me know. Thanks.

EDIT: Nevermind...I found out after some more diggin that components will ALWAYS export in the first frame, REGARDLESS of if you have unchecked the option to do so or not. I had to go into the Publish Settings and click the "Settings" button found next to the "ActionScript Version" drop-down box on the Flash tab, then simply manually change the class export frame from frame 1 to frame number 2...

I explained this in case someone else runs into this same problem down the line.

Scene File Size Huge Compared To Seperate Movie File Size?
I have a flash movie with multiple swf files imported into different movieclips throughout. Each of the imported movieclips is a seperate scene of the original movie. The thing I found out is that if I copy all the frames of scene 2 for example, and paste them into a new movie. Then publish the new movie as a swf. The file size is much smaller than the scene 2 swf when published from the original movie. Does anyone know why?

Why Use Flash Video When It Bumps The File Size To Outrageous Size?
I have imported a flash video into my flash movie. I have run the .mov in sorenson squeeze and have it nice and small. As soon as I import it into flash (because this is the only way I know to do it in order to run a video in flash) now I have 1024 frames and a HUGE .swf file.

So what is the point to using flash at all...or am I doing something wrong. Is there a better way to handle video within flash??

Making Canvas Size And File Size Smaller

I made a flash projector file recently for my company,
Its 1024 * 768, and a pretty big file size, but we had it burned onto dvd so that was ok....

However now I want to make it 250 * 250, cut the filesize down, and put it on the companies web site....

Preloader Size Doesn't Match File Size.....
Alrighty, my preloader says that my filesize is 242kb. MY ACTUAL filesize is 179kb, according to flash and windows. Is there something I am missing here?

File Size -- Does Size Really Matter
I got this site and most of you already know about it - I have been trying and trying to crunch it -----

QUESTION:
what is a decent file size that I should be aiming on - no bare in mind that the site has imported graphics and sounds --> the lowest I can get it is 398KB ---> and that's with the sound being horrible ->

what is an ideal site usually? 250kb ---> is that even possible? I mean - sound - graphics - should I just quit?

Image Size / File Size
Hi there,
I´ve got a little move which holds eight *png images. The final movie size is around 200 KB.
The images are too large in size anyway, so I did the following:

Scaled the MC holding the images to 50%: No difference in movie(swf) size.
Scaled the bitmaps in Flash down to 50%: No difference in movie size.

Is there another way besides open all the images in an external editor and scale them?

Bitmap Size - How Can I Know It's File Size In A .FLA ?

Is there a way to know how big a bitmap
is (in Kb filesize) once imported into the library of the source FLA file ?

Sometimes I get flash tutorials with bitmaps embeded but I don't know
how to figure out how big they are? ...of course without comparing the FLA file before
and after I delete the bitmap from the library.

Text Size/file Size
I just realized that the "Loading Data" text I use on the 1st frame of my movie preloader weighs in at a whopping 135KB! Even the static symbol file for the Loading Data text alone is 79KB!

Does anyone know of a way to bring down the file size? It seems like I could draw something similar at a fraction of the size.

I am using a simple static font (called JH Titles) at 28pt size and tweening the brightness -100 to +100.

Cutting Down File Size In My ,swf File - And Best Importing Of Pics
Hey everyone,

I have created an swf file that is 4 mb. Everything (MC, pics, actionscripts) are in this one file which I am trying to upload online. Now I'm pretty sure this size is huge. What are some of the ways I can cut down on file size. One thing I was pretty sure that I can do, was the pics. Ok, I use a lot of vector images, and have a couple of photos. What is the file format I should be importing them as. Here are the known ways I know how to do.

1. in Illustrator, export file as a jpeg (or gif. Which is better?) then import to flash

2. in Illustrator, export file as swf file then import to flash.

3. Cut and paste directly from illustrator to the flash document.

And that is about it..

Please let me know what I can do...

File Import / File Size Question
Hey everybody,

little question...i have to quicktime movies here...one is the animation itself...the other is the alpha channel of that animation and want both of that in flash...

Now what i did was compositing those anims in after effects, then exporting as a series of tga's (with alpha) then importing in flash...

the problem is that the swf explodes from around 600kB to 2.1 MB...now there must be a better way of doing this...Do flv's support alpha, if yes, how???
