Flash :: Rollover Effects & Links Not Working

Help With Links And Rollover Effects
Hi folks,

I'm pretty new to Flash in general, and I'm trying to put up a slick website for my illustrative work. At present, I understand animation and movement pretty decently. I'm at the point where I could probably put together an entire site - if not for these pesky links and rollovers!

I'm needing to solve these problems (I'm working in ActionScript 3.0 in Flash CS3):

- I have a preloader that essentially works, but I don't think it's set up right to fix the time it is loading with the time it takes the page to load. Basically all I think it's doing now is playing for the length of the timeline it occupies..

- I cannot get my "Skip Intro" button to link anywhere. I just need it to link to my external homepage swf, called "home.swf". I see the hand sign, as it is a button, but it will not link out to another page (which I'd like to be self-contained, not opening up another window). I've tried many versions of code I've found through Flash help places I've visited online.., nothing works..

- I need the last frame of the intro to automatically redirect to the "home.swf" page - in the same window. Right now it just keeps looping, although I have a "stop" on the last frame of the last row/layer, and I've made certain there are no other layers that are longer than this row.

- Once all of my menu buttons (which are actually movies) load on the "home.swf" page, I'd like them to serve as buttons that will link to the other pages (within the same window). But I can't for the life of me figure out how to link these movies to the URLs for the corresponding pages, or how to accomplish rollover effects (just a simple contracting/expanding of the button-movie based upon whether the mouse is over it). I've followed 2 tutorials and came up dry.

- Last, I'd like the "home.swf" page's exit animation (when a user clicks on another page via the menu buttons) to be a reverse of the existing intro animation. I'd probably like to add a different sound though.

Button Rollover Effects Stop Working When Inside MC
I'm trying to make a PLAY/PAUSE toggle button with rollover effects. I started by making a button object for PLAY and a button object for PAUSE, each with simple rollovers. Then I placed each button in a movie clip called "playpause", and I'm using Actionscript to tell the playhead in playpause to gotoAndStop on a specific frame to display either the PLAY button or the PAUSE button. Now the toggle feature works, but the button rollovers stopped working. Also, the enlarged hit states that I defined in each button stopped working as well, and the open areas in between letters are not clickable. I posted the Flash 8 file. Can someone please help?

Can somebody please tell me how to achieve a reverse rollover effect.

What do I mean....

I am cool with setting an object as a movie symbol and get that movie to take place when I put the pointer over the symbol, but how to I get another movie to play when I take the mouse away? i.e. the same effect in reverse, like a picture increasing and decreasing in size?

Hi there.

I have just started using Flash MX and I am trying to create a rollover effect.

I want to change some dynamic text whenever the mouse roll's over a button. I want each button to display its own phrase and i want the dynamic text to appear blank when the mouse isn't over any of the buttons.

I have experimented with actionscript but cant seem to get it working as desired

How is this done. Can anyone help me.

Im currently working on a site for a client and I want to use a rollover effect like that on the Volvo C30 website under the Volvos C30 Safety section.. as you rollover the highlighted square, a text box with some easing properties pops up!

Elastic Effects ? Any Links To Tuts Or .flas

Ive seen this effect numerous times around the net, as Im sure most of you have, but I've never got around to learning how-to do it, any suggestion about going and creating that sort of vertical or horizontal elastic effect with I think MCs ?

I have created my own web site in flash at www.donnieturner.com and one of the buttons (web design) I made it so that when you rollover it fireworks launch and explode. The only thing is that I want it to keep playing the movie until the end even if they roll off of the button. I know it is possible as I have seen it done on homestarrunner's website intro screen #12. Can anyone help me it is probably simple and very obvious. Thanks,

Menu Rollover Effects... Please Help
I'm trying to make a menu that does sort of a cover-up slide motion, and text raising effect when the mouse moves over it.
I've got the movie clips finished, and they do what I need them to, but when I preview my project, the animation/effect continuously runs, rather than just running during mouse rollover. I'm assuming it's either a problem with my invisible buttons, or my action script, but honestly I don't even know where to start. I've started over from scratch at least 13 times now, and still I can't figure this thing out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

oki wanted to know if you can make a strict rollout button. this is what i have so far. i made a button and when i mouseover it, it plays. when i take my mouse off of it, it plays again.. but if u move the mouse kinda fast over it and take it off quickly it wont play the 2nd part..

wait i changed the rollout to gotoandplay(11) so it seems to be working better..

Rollover Effects Not Buttons
I just watched the "Creating A Movie Clip Button" tutorial and it works great.

I would like to be able to use a similar effect for the background of a menu area.

Problem is, if I use "onRollOver" method the cursor turns into a mouse finger. I want the effect but not the cursor change.

The code modified slightly from the tutorial is:

Rollover Effects While Using Drag
I have a game where you have to drag objects around, but as these objects are being dragged my buttons cannot be clicked. I am sure this is because the object i am dragging is 'blocking' my mouse from the button. Is there a way i can make it so i can click buttons 'through' the object i am dragging?

Advanced RollOver Effects
Hi guys,

I need to create a holding page with navigation to 4 sections within. The navigation is simply 4 small boxes in the middle of the page, then when the browsers hovers over each box, I would like the box to 'grow' and give a little information about the section.

I would want the larger box to the be clickable to take the browser to the section, and I would want the box to get smaller when the mouse leaves the box.

Ideally I would want the boxes to get bigger and smaller in a 'fluid' manner, so that if if only grows to 50% size (because the mouse wasn't over it for very long) it would then shrink from 50% to the small box, instead of jumping back up to 100% or jumping back to a small box.

What would be the best way of doing this do you think?

All I can think of is having it as a movie clip in the buttons 'over' state, but that wouldn't allow the growth to be fluid.

I could also make the small boxes jump to sections on rollOver, containing the relevant movieclip, but that also would not be fluid.

What would you recommend?

Opacity Effects On Rollover
Has anyone come across this before?

I have a movie clip for a form that i have placed on the stage. The rollover actions for my buttons are that i have turned the opacity (alpha) down to 40% - so when you rollover the button it allows the background to show through.

However, when you test the movie and rollover the button, the opacity effect doesn't work. Any other rollover effect seems to work, such as changing the colour of the button for example.

Instead of having the form as a movie clip and placed on the stage and just had it built on the stage from scratch, the effect works on the button.

Is this because its in a movie clip or am i completely missing something?

Adding Hover Effects To Html Links In A Text Box
I was remaking my website, and I need to know if it is possible to add hover effects and all that to <a> tags in an html dynamic text box. I've seen it on other sites (whether it was in a dynamic text box I am not sure, but it looked like it since it was anti-aliased text). Does anyone know?

Rollover Effects On A Button/m.clip

I am trying to create a rollover effect whereby a user would move the mouse over a movieclip(with button symbols embedded) and this would display a moving image masked into the shape of the this movieclip.

Basically, I have used the 'rollover' event to begin the rollover process, and rollout event to end it. However, I have noticed that the frame doesn't necesarily interpret the mouse rolling out (if moved quickly), and continues to play the animation, giving the user a mixed message.

Is there a better approach other than mouse events, or a particular action I can use so that should the user move the mouse quickly, Flash still registers this as a 'rollout'? Because I am trying to do what I think is something not particularly difficult, I am wondering if I have approached the problem in the wrong way (using mouse events)

Also, after much trial and error during the day, I found I could not attach the mouseevents to anything other than buttons, and that masks (that is, the layer masking the layer below it) cannot react to mousevents either, even if it is set to a button symbol. Is this correct?

If there was a way I could add mousevents to the object directly (other than buttons) this probably would be easier - is it possible?

Problem With Rollover Rollout Effects
Hey guys, was wondering if someone could enlighten me.

I'm trying to make a button enlarge itself whenever my pointer is over it and shrinks back to normal size when my pointer is out. The problem is, at the instance when it's enlarged, there's supposed to be a couple more buttons on the enlarged button itself, but whenever i move my mouse over them the enlarged button just shrinks. *dreads*

Guest Books And Rollover Effects
I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find a good tutorial for making a guest book. Please let me know if you know where I can find one. If you look at the attachment, you can see that I tried to make a keyboard at the bottom of the page. I'm trying to make it where the user clicks each letter on the keyboard to type instead of them actually typing with their actual keyboard. I was hoping to get this to work for the guest book, but I don't even know if that is possible or not. I also was wondering if anyone knows how to make the buttons at the top of the page create a drop down menu when the mouse rolls over them. RollOver/RollOut Button Effects
Hello everyone

I am having some problems with one of the tutorials on this website.

I have had a nose at the tutorial and I was hoping I could modify the buttons.

I have placed five seperate buttons onto the stage and would like each one to go to a different place.

I have removed the kirupa.com line and replaced it will code saying onreleasegotoandstop (5) on the assumption it will go to frame number 5, but I am not sure if this will simply go to frame five in the button movie or in the main scene movie.

However when I published the movie I was told that the action I wrote in could only be applied to buttons and I believe the button is a movie clip and not a button.

I would post up my Flash File but I have not worked out yet how to upload stuff to the website yet.

general question for everybody... (posted this in AS forum b/c i don't care what version of flash for this)

can anyone recommend a cool but simple rollover effect (preferably flash only... no AE or what-not) for a photo? The design is fairly 'corporate' and clean...

I've got a series of six thumbnails (90 X 90 px ea.) and need something clever but not too crazy for a rollover effect.

I saved this for last and now i'm creatively burnt-out!

examples from other sites and stuff would be good... right now i'm beyond trying to be original with this aspect of the project...

Editing Mac Dock For Rollover Effects...

Anyway, I am editing a mockup of a Mac OS dock from http://jrgraphix.net/research/flash-dock-mx-2004.php , Which is coded for MX-2004, I am editing in Studo 8, at the moment.

Pretty much what I am wanting to do is have the icons act as buttons with animated rollovers. Unfortunately, I am more of a visually based designer as opposed to a scripting guru.

Been wracking my brains for a while. As you can see the initial code goes through some methods of doing actions, but it is entirely based off of click. May end up just getting a hold of a developer friend, but thought I would post here first. Thanks in advance!

Rollover Effects Within HTML Text Boxes
I am curious if it is possible to enable rollovers to occur within specific text strings located in dynamic HTML fields.

Currently, the dynamic text field loads html documents to act a menu system that employs the use of the undocumented ‘asfunction’. The primary reasons for this are due to the non-static nature of the menu options; additionally, those who will be editing the html documents are not well versed in any type of visual development software and thus, require a foolproof method of updating Flash content. With that said, I would like to add visual cues by means of a rollover for users. The altering of text hues are the only rollover effects I require (i.e. from blue to yellow).

Can this be done?

Funky Action Script Rollover Effects? Yay Or Nay?
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to make actionscript make rollover effects on a button?

I have a rollover built into the button at the minute, but lets say I want to make the square around the button tween from alpha 100 to alpha 50 when the mouse is over it.

I have specified on the stage instance of the button that:

on (RollOver) {

Do Something funky
}

I can get it to change to a different alpha, but how do I get it tween between the two values? This would be extremely handy as I can specify different rollovers dependant on state.

Any ideas? You guys don't normally let me down!

How To Make Rollout And Rollover Effects On A Button?

I would like to know how can I add rollout and rollover effects to a button. Here´s what I want to do:

Let´s say I´ve got a green circle, which will be my button. When the user pass the mouse over it, the circle grows in a fluid animation, and when the user takes the mouse out of it the circle shrinks fluidly... Do I have to use the AS tween class? Can anyone help? Thanks!

Hi,

I completed the Complex Button RollOut/RollOver Effects tutorial and wanted to know how to implement this correctly to a button that already has a motion tween.

For example I have a button which comes up from the bottom and adding the AS provided by the tutorial, when my mouse rolls over the button the button goes to the original state which is the bottom. (I also have a ripple effect on the button which is a movie clip but it serves as a background to the button) How can I arrange it so that my button can come up from the bottom, stay in place and then have the rollout/rollover effect when my mouse rolls over the button (and not go back to its very original state)?

i learned alot from this tutorial but the tutorial shows you how to open a new window when you click on the button, I am looking to jump to a frame label in the same movie, I tried adding the goto function in place of the get url but it wont work. This button is on the main timeline in scene 1 and I need it to go to a frame thats labeled port on its release.

This is only the second time I've posted in this forum. I'm a a flash newbie, its not a program I use often but the more I use it the more I want to get into it.

Everthing works except when I publish it to a web page the links dont work....nothing at all happens. All the rollover effects are working, just no links. Ive modified the tutorial and have made 5 buttons in a flash movie, the SWF is to sit in a web page as the navigation for a html/css site. heres the code below, all I did was to copy the code straight out of the tutorial. I simply need to get the links working so each button navigates to an internal page of my site.

If anyone could give me a hand to work out whats up that would be great.

Urgent Button Animation (rollover Effects) Problem
Hi, this is my first post on these boards, and i've never needed help in Flash as much as I have now

I have a project to turn in for February 6th, and this has to be an website created in Flash.
I have completed layout, got the content, but I'm facing one major problem: the buttons not working :/

-There are basically 4 buttons at the top of the page.
-Each button, when rolled over, launchs its buttosn appropriate movie clip, which basically plays a submenu unfolding, then stopping.
-In theory, when you roll off this menu structure, the entire submenu will fold back into the menu.

The animation is done, the movie clips are created, one major problem has arisen though:

Whenever the submenu has successfully unfolded itself, and I try and go onto it, Flash considers that I have rolled off my initial button, so folds the submenu back up.
Thus, the submenu is inaccessible.
I have tried a wide variety of solutions, involve creating invisible buttons inside the movie clip, but none have worked so far.
I have asked many people, and so far noone has found out how.

So, almost out of desperation, I come here asking you :/

This is the .fla, I have locked most layers. The only ones you will need to look at are "Button1" and "Button1anim" (this contains the movie clip).

I am try to get a button to move smoothly. Below is code I have been playing with. I have the button animating the way I like, but I can't figure out how to get it to stay on the x coordinate. Is there a way to counter the %150 with a certain number of pixels?

Complex Button RollOver/RollOut Effects: Issue...
Hey people...

I was following the tutorial for a RollOver/RollOut effects button...and I came into a snag. Everything worked great...with exception for a little bit that I wanted to change.

I wanted the RollOver/RollOut effect but have multiple buttons with different links. In this tutorial, you can only go to one URL. I was interested in using the RollOver/RollOut feature as part of a custom drop down menu in flash.
