CSS Drop Down Menu Causes Flash To Flicker In Safari
Hi All,

I'm doing this very simple web site with a flash movie on the home page that rotates images with a simple fade in/out. That's it. The rest of the site is HTML with a Fireworks-generated drop-down menu. When you roll over the links on the menu in Safari, the flash images lose their transparency, get this weird red and yellow halo, and/or flicker, throwing the movie off. Any suggestions (beyond building the whole page in flash with a flash nav - believe me, I already considered that one)?

Flash Menu Buttons Flicker When Pressed
I created a menu from an image that I sliced up in Photoshop CS2 then took those images into flash 8 and created a rollover effect then took those buttons and put them into a webpage to create a menu.
The problem is that when I run the webpage and press on the any of the menu flash buttons all the buttons disapear and all you see are black boxes where the buttons were and then the buttons re-apear. It looks terrible. Is there anyway to smooth out the process?

Embed SWF, Stage.scaleMode And Safari... Problem

Hope someone can helpâ€¦

On the first frame of my flash movie I have the following in order for the design area to display accordingly:

Stage.scaleMode = â€œnoScaleâ€;

This works great for me on all browsers except Safari which just shows a blank white page. The following link provides an example that should work in all browsers except safari:

Obviously the easy thing to do is remove the â€œnoScaleâ€ command but this opens a whole new can of worms which I wont bore you with. So I guess I want to know if there is any way of successfully using the â€œnoScaleâ€ command with Safariâ€¦

I should also mention that the html code consists of a table structure which always ensures the content is centred vertically on screen - so maybe this combined with the 'no scale' command is the problem.

Basically I need an all browser solution to get an swf to embed (using swfobject) into a webpage so that it appears centered horizontally and vertically and works with the 'no scale' command.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Flash Menu Disappears In Safari
For some reason, when I edit my website in FrontPage and save the changes, the swf file that is the menu disappears when viewed in Safari but not Internet Explorer. There is no problem when I first ftp the pages...it's only AFTER I (or a client) edits the page in FrontPage.

This is the only website of mine that has this problem. I can edit others all day long and not have any disappearing acts. The site page that is a problem is: http://www.ffel.net/quote.html. A page on that same site that has NOT been edited is http://www.ffel.net/ffel.html.

I hate FrontPage but the client insists on being able to edit the site form himself. Any Smarties out there who are more advanced than me?!

Problem With A Flash Menu In FireFox/Safari Browser

I'm looking for some help with a flash menu i have create for my web site it works 100% in microsoft explorer but in fire fox or safari i have a problem. The menu is set to transparent as their are drop down menus from main nav bar, in fire fox you can see the text just below the menu bar but cannot touch any links but in explorer you can no problems.

the page in question www.khe.com.au if you try explorer you can click on any of the links ie pictures below the nav bar but in firefox you cannot, you can further down the page once you have passed the longest drop down menu point.

I am really stuck with this problem, hoping someone can assist with this issue.

Button Flicker In A Dropdown Menu?
I am working on a dropdown menu and when someone rolls over the winners button, I want categories to appear underneath. When they appear and you rollover the categories, there is a flicker that happens. I assume this is caused by the hit states of the different buttons? Any tips on avoiding this? I currently am using a large hit state with cutouts for the winners button and in the cutout area is the category button.

Help With Flash Menu Embed In Html...
Hi... I'm developing a website and it has flash menu... the flash menu file contained 10 buttons... (Home,history,barangays,establishments,attractions , archives, downloads,about us,credits,& contact us).. I embedded the flash menu file in the html file and when i try to view the html file it's fine but when i click on any of the buttons it loads another page and the flash menu is playing from the start...

How can i make the flash menu file not playing everytime i jump from page to page...??

Ok i have made a flash menu with a bit of animated menubutton (slidein from the left). I am using swfobject to embed the flash menu. But now each time an user clicks the menu is being reloaded and the use doesn't see the animation

What strategy should i use???

Menu-Flicker Without "stop()"?
Greetings all and everyone

I just recently ventured into the depths (or heights?) of Flash MX (but I do have a few years of experience with VBScript, PHP and JavaScript)... I think that what I am coming to you with is pretty much a "n00b" problem but I can't find out why it happens so I'll just ask nicely-

I made an *.fla (go, me) that has 3 layers- the Actions Layer, an InfoBox Layer and a Background.
There is no animation going on (the background is a shape, just for testing) the Info Field is a Symbol (instance) with a text field and a button.

I do *not* use a "stop();" command in the Actions-Layer (putting it there stops the flickering, obviously) because I saw that Kirupa Chinnathambi didn't use one either in his "squirrel finder" script and I wanted to see what'd happen if I omitted the "stop();", too... my application is going to have to occasionally reload an XML-source and I thought that not stopping the movie might be a good way to have it reload the XML (with a delay, of course)- but I might be wrong there, too

It's all very simple. But when I test the movie, it flickers.
How come the "Squirrel Finder" doesn't flicker and my file does? It doesn't really do anything any different than my file (or does it?)

Flash Causes Flicker In IE... See Example
Hey guys,

We have created this nifty little flash viewer that automatically loads a panoramic image displays it for 4 seconds then fades into the next one. www.abovephotography.com.au/ The problem is when viewing the page in IE the screen flickers when I hover over the links, IE7 only does it when i scroll and hover however IE6 does it as soon as I hover.

As you would know that IE requires you to click on the flash object to activate it, so as soon as I click on it then the flicker goes away?!

Is there a workaround to this!?!?!?!

Flicker Refresh In Flash
Do you know of any way to reduce the flicker when moving (scrolling) large images at semi-fast speeds across the stage???

right now using onEnterFrame at 60fps on a PC. Fast computer. Flash has always suffered from flicker...but is there a way to reduce it, any tricks? Right now I've only got a single bitmap on the screen and am scrolling it back and forth to test.

Hi, I have this font, which I want to use in an xml menu... How do I embed the font? Whenever I look at the site from another computer the font is being replaced by something else. But I allready tried embedding it the "normal" way:

globalStyleFormat.applyChanges();

and in my library I created the font, named it PixelFont, checked the right boxes in the linkage window, but I still dont see it on my other computer... The script in the xml menu is:

A White Flicker In The Browser Before Flash Starts?

I get a white flicker - quick, but still noticeable when my flash is played in IE. Went to Macromedia forums and they said it was unfixable. Any ideas or different workarounds you guys got? The animation is not especially large, so it could'nt be a size or loading problem - yet...

Flash Movie Making Cursor In Non Flash Form Flicker
Hi all,

Whenever I insert the flash movie into the page, it causes the cursor in the input field of a form to flicker sporadically. It does it in IE 5, 5.5, 6, 7, and in Firefox. Opera is not affected at all. Anyone ever run across this? I remember this happening to me before I just can not recall what the cause was.

Flicker When Dynamically Loading Chart Component In Flash MX
Hi

I am using a database to load values into the charting components in Flash MX. The code loads the variables from an asp file and modifies an existing instance of a chart. This is working fine. But the chart instance appears briefly with no values loaded, disappears and appears again with the values loaded. It looks like a flicker and it's a bit distracting.

I've tried to set the _visible property of the instance to false and then make it reappear after the values are loaded. I've also tried to change the _x value of the instance so the chart doesn't appear until after it's loaded. Neither of these things work.

I thought I might be able to create the component in actionscript but have had no luck. I read somewhere that they can be created something like:
ThisBarChart = new BarChart();
but I can't get that to work either.

If anyone can suggest anything to fix this problem, I'd be very grateful.

Flash Movie Makes IE Flicker When Moving From One Hyperlink To Another
Hi,

Hope you can help. On my company's homepage http://www.nextcomputing.com, we have a Flash file.

When the Flash file lines up anywhere next to the right nav, the screen flickers when you roll over the right nav.

If the Flash is not there or sits lower than the bottom of the right nav, the screen doesn't flicker when you roll over the right nav.

This only happens in IE, not Firefox, and only on certain machines with various versions of Windows and a couple different graphics cards, none of which are consistant enough to point to either as a culprit.

The site is done in DW MX 2004 and the Flash is created in Flash MX 2004.

I been searching forums, and I've noticed serveral people have had this problem and no clear resolution has been given.

I have tried reseting my resolution and uninstalling and reinstalling everything.

Do you have any suggestions?

How To Deal With A Flicker Of Unstyled Content On Heavily-styled Flash Components?
Hello everyone.

I wonder if anyone else has come across the issue in question here. I have a main Flash movie serving as a container into which other movies are loaded when the appropriate buttons are pressed. The loaded movies themselves contain Flash components such as combobox, list and textarea with a good deal of styling applied to all of them.

When I test them separately all is well. However, when they are loaded into the main movie, there occurs a momentary flicker of unstyled content (comparable to raw content showing briefly while importing CSS into a html page instead of linking it), after which the components show as intended.

I have tried applying mx transitions, various alpha settings and masking in order to provide a second or two to the components to become settled, but none seemed to be a satisfactory solution.

Could anyone please help me with this unsightly nuisance? I should be much obliged.

In a recent project ive discovered a bug between Flash and Safari.

i have a movie with a login and password input text fields.

If you have more than 1 Safari window open, one or more of the text fields becomes unusable.

any one come across this problem? or have a workaround for it?

i have a flash movie 400x400 pixels with an onClipEvent that triggers based on mouse position. works fine on all browsers except safari. when the movie loads and the mouse is anywhere on the stage (not on the movie) the movie reacts. it's not supposed to until the mouse is actually over the movieClip. why does this happen?

Hello.

Why current websitte begins with a basic home page, www.cjzdesign.com.

When you click to enter the site, a new window pops up and a flash site begins to load. The flash content fills this new window from edge to edge.

When the site is accessed via the MAC's Safari, there are white borders to the left and right of the Flash content.

Is there any way to stop these borders from appearing in Safari?

Im have a simple mask reveal effect with a dynamic loaded image, on all these mentioned browsers and when I test it, the mask appears Green and does the regular animation but nothing is shown, I refresh the site and it works, this problem doesn't appear in IE.

Question About Flash 7 And Safari
Hello everyone. I hope someone can answer this for me because it is driving me nuts!

I have noticed lately that Mac and Safari are having issues displaying Flash. For instance, recently I updated this site:

I did not change the Flash header or any Flash components. I just made use of Iframes to center te content.

Now for no reason, Safari and IE for the Mac is having issues displaying the header. But it will display the lower slideshow. I am not having any of these issues with PC's just our Macs. Could anyone reading this on a Mac review the link and let me know if you can see the navigation? And if not, is there any known bugs involving Flash 7 and Mac or Safari.

Please everyone do not send hate replies because I am saying I have an issue with a Mac, I use both systems

Flash On Safari 2.0+ Compatibility
I have this problem on my swf when viewed on mac's safari 2.01. It seems almost all of the elements of my flash movie are disorganized. Does anyone know what's the cause of this? Are there any methods for flash movies to be totally error-free on mac browsers?

Safari - It Doesn't Seem To Like Flash
Right this is fast turning into the worst day of my flash based life.

Won't play in Safari - have tested it in modzilla on Mac, Internet (Hate) Explorer on PC, it works fine.

What am I doing wrong, here is a test file, it does the same thing as my movie (it's a little large so I'm only posting it if i get desperate).

The problem apears when externally loaded files (movies into movies, txt files into dynamic text boxes) don't load in.

Some body I know who works with flash said it might be to do with naming structures. But I've stuck to simple names - no dashes or spaces etc.

I just don't know, surfice to say I'm at my wits end.

Any help greatly appricated.

If i am opening any popup in my application and then i logout from parent window or main screen, then if i again go to login screen there i am not been able enter username or password and my login screen is made in flash.

This case works fine in IE but this is not working in safari.

If i close safri and then try to login then its working.

Flash And Safari Issue
I've created a flash file which starts with 3 large buttons which take you to a different frame label on the main timeline. Each label contains a movie which contains various images and text.

The buttons work perfectly fine in IE7, however in firefox (pc) and on safari the third button decides to take me to the wrong section in the timeline. BUT this only happens when you click on the upper edge of the button.

Clicking anywhere else on the button is fine, it's just the top edge.

I've checked the FLA file and there's nothing odd going on as it works fine when the .SWF is run on my pc.

Any ideas why this would happen?

Safari And XML Driven Flash?
I'm using a Flash mp3 player that is loading the Flash real slow in Safari on a Mac. Not sure why this is but didn't know if anyone else has run into this problem before? Not sure if the problem lies in the ActionScript or the XML file or if Safari just loads slow for whatever reason. This is real frustrating to say the least because it work on all browsers on a PC. Flash Player 9 In Safari
I'v built a site using CSS incorporating multiple SWF files per page. Only on Safari, do I get a spastic cursor display when the cursor is over the movie area. The cursor flickers between the hand, pointer, and text selection tool. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to why it is doing this. Sometimes it happens when hovering over a link, sometimes over text, sometimes over everything, and sometimes not at all.

Has anyone had any experience with this problem? Do you know what the solution might be?

The player worked fine, I saw an update, updated and now it's broken. I've tried for about 90 minutes to uninstall and use an older version to no avail. This wasn't an issue under Macromedia.
