Flash :: Save PDF To Desktop?

Save To Desktop?
Hello, I'm new at action scripting, and I'm trying to create a button, that when released will save a PDF file to the viewers desktop. This will be used on my print design website, to enable people to download my resume.

I know how to open the file in a browser window, but am hoping there is a way to save automatically. Also, this HAS to be MAC, and PC friendly.

I searched the forums, and tutorials, but no luck yet. Anyone have any suggestions?

Desktop App...save As Swf?
Hi all...

Details:

I have a Flash desktop app (with a little help from MDM FlashStudioPro) that lets the user search through a local database of images. The user can create and save a list of the images he/she likes. Each image comes with size, price, title information.

Problem:

I would like the user to be able to email a copy of their compiled list (a sort of presentation) which contains all the images and text information, in a nicely layed out 'page' or two. I would like it to be a swf.

Question:

Is there a way to export this presentation as a swf? I've looked at FlashPaper, but I can't see a way to generate flashpaper using actionscript. Some of the MDM scripts allow for coverting jpgs into swfs or a slideshow, but that doesn't help me (dynamic layout and text info is required).

Any ideas?

Save To Desktop In Windows
i need to extract files from zip files in a Cd to the desktop folder in windows through flash.
I am using a command line unzipper and its working, but in windows, the desktop folder path changes when you have one or more users, and in different versions (NT, 2000, W9x).

Is there any way to know the path to the desktop of the active user so I can pass this parameter to my unzipper?

Save Images To Desktop, Possible?
I have a client who wants to "incorporate a way to select images and export them to a folder on the desktop" . They want the user to click a box that says "save the image" and then have the image save to the desktop. I was wondering if this is possible in Flash, maybe using XML or something. If not, is there another method you could suggest?

I make a lot of CDs with flash .exe self-executable movies... they usually play slow from a CD and are large files.. I usually tell clients to drag and drop to the desktop..

I work on a Mac. I cannot use third-part software such as FreeMX or FlasJester. I designed a dual platform CD-ROM presentation and everything works great -- except for ONE thing.

I have a small image library and I need it to work like this: when you press a button, I want the selected image file to be transferred FROM the CD-ROM and be saved ONTO the desktop of the PC or the Mac.

I have 7 high resolution jpegs and 2 Illustrator eps files - in both PC and Mac format.

I found a LONG Mac applescript that will do this for me. Is there a PC script or actionsscript that will do this function for me? Do I need to write a .bat file and use FScommand ("exec","mybat01") to trigger a DOS command? I understand this method will cause a DOS window to pop open on the PC.

If I use: getURL, what happens in the file attempts to open in the web-browser. Not good because the jpegs are 300 dpi and the browser cannot understand the Illustrator eps files.

If any experts out there can help me find a solution to this dilemma, I would be most grateful!

Remember - I'm using a Mac so I can't use FreeMX or *********** (they only work on a PC). I would post the .fla file, but it's over 37 megs. Sorry.

Actionscript To Save Swf To Desktop.
I am making a screensaver with some simple actions to make it project full screen. I got it to work, as well as a button to quit the movie, but the last thing I need is the ability to save the swf to the desktop with a button in the swf. Ive looked for hours. Our site is set up pretty strange, thus doing it the old fashioned way would require more work than I care to do. Does such an action exsist for swfs? thanks!

How Do I Save A File To The Desktop From A Flash Projector?
Hi fellow Flashers!

I am creating a Flash Projector for Mc and PC and it's going to go on a CD. I'm including a folder on the CD with various "downloadable" files (jpegs, PDFs, etc). I want to be able to click a button in the projector file and have a linked file saved to the desktop. Right now, when I click a button, the linked file opens in a web browser. How can I make that linked file an object that can be saved directly to the destop? I've seen CD-ROM media kits that do this: I click the button for the object I want to save to my desktop; a window pops up that shows the file name and it gives me an option to select the exact location on my computer where I want the linked file saved to.

I'll bet this is a really easy button actionscript, but I cannot figure it out. Can anyone help me? Thanks nycomett

FMX: Save User-drawn Objects And Save/load DXF/DWG?
Hey everyone. Sorry to seem like a leech, but I could really use the guidance. Usually I'm pretty good for finding the solution on my own without having to trouble people, but this time I seem to be coming up short. So thanks in advance for taking the time to read this.

I'm developing an auto-cad esque flash application (going good so far too). I have no problem storing object information in a database (xy coordinates, rotation, scale etc), but now my problem is converting that data to another format; specifically DXF or DWG. Now I know the flash environment itself can import/export DXF's, but I don't know how to load the user-made data into the environment. Is it possible to have the environment run actionscripts to build these user-made objects and then manually save that to a DXF? (or even better would be a save/load DXF from the flash player)

Essentially I'd need to know if it's possible for the flash environment to read from my database (probably from reading a PHP built XML file), execute actionscript to reconstruct any objects created, and then let me go and manually (or automatically!) export a DXF of that.

Any comments or help would be greatly appreciated =]

The other very viable alternative is if you guys know of an XML to/from DXF/DWG converter.

i'm trying to load a external swf in a main motive use a movie clip holder, useing
loadMovie("name.swf", "_root.Mc_holder"); the move loads but the coding don't work( i.e. animation) the effect within the swf was made in action script 1 using Absolute and the motive is 2 using relative also the player setting on the swf are for player 6 unlike the movie which is 8
it does work if i use levels but overlaps on to the main movie which does'nt look great
and not what i need.
this is very hard to ex plane so any help would be great.

AS 2 Save Image With Open / Save Dialogue
I am wanting to use fileReference to open an OS save dialogue so my users can save jpgs to their hard disks.

I been trying to get this working but I can't can any one please give me some code or some idea how to get this working.

I just want to be able to click a button and the save dialogue appear asking where to save the file.

Is it possible to have a button open the save dialogue box of the users operating system?

So as soon as the button is click the OS save dialogue box appears.

How To Save X-y Coords In One Array And Save'n'such
Hello evryone.

just fighting with those array functions in flash.

well, i have a mouserecorder "Paintthingy" which records the mouse coordinates into 2 array's, after that the arraydata will be saved over a php script into 2 textfiles.

works fine, but i have to open 2 url's for that and 2 seperate phpscripts to write x and y seperated in 2 files.

is there a way to save both x and y over 2 own identifiers in an array ? that would help alot, because i have to load that textfile after that, to put the textfiledata in the array again.

easily said it's a very simple paintprogram with save function so that after a refresh the last painting won't get lost.

Save Button To Save Dynamic Mc's?

Problem in short :
Working on interactive kiosk - have button that creates dynamic copies of my parent movieclip (picture of lion) The user would click on button to create copies and using "drag" move the lion to where she saw it on the map.

Once the lion "sightings" have been visally logged on the map, and need to be able to give them a "save" button to save what you see on screen.

Because this is created dynamically by the user, I need a way for the user to save it at runtime.

How would one go about this?
p.s I need to be able to show the new saved file from a remote pc.

Hey there everyone, I got this SWF desktop, seems like I'm buyin software all the time these days. Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone has gotten this program and has any comments about it suggestions. Im gonna totally convert my background of my computer and get rid of desktop icons and make everything look nice.

I have a clock that keeps time through code that reads my date and time schedule from my computer. I want to make it into a desktop background without losing the motion. Or possiblly a screensaver.

Hi Guys and Girls,

Im having a bit of a problem creating a stand alone cam exe projector that talks to my remote media server which in turn talks to a browser cam swf.

All the browser based swf work fine but for some reason when I try and create a standalone exe projector it fails to connect to the media server.

Has anyone any ideas of where to start to look for the problem.

Ive alowed all permissions on my local firewall too.

Im guessing that its a sand box problem with security issues but Im buggered if I can find where to start.

Has anyone used this product from screentime?

I downlaoded their trial version and I can't seem to get the background images to work.

I have set the background image thumbnails both ways that they show.

1) From the same directory as the swf and have inlcuded them with the installer.
2) From my server.

The thumbnails load successfully every time locally and from the server, however I can't get the background image to change when I click on the thumbnail.

Has anyone had this problem or know how to fix it? It's really frustrating.

Anyone have any idea how to have something download to a users desktop from a CD-Rom in FLASH? For example I have a CD-ROM project and I want users to be able to download a screensaver....what action would I assign to the button? Thanks to anyone who can help.

you know the old screesavers done in director where it takes a shot on your desktop and a creature pops up and starts eating your icons etc. Is it possible to take that screenshot using AS... i really didn't think it could be done, but maybe someone here has some bright ideas.

SWF Won't Play On Desktop
when i try to run a swf on my desktop, i get a caution window saying "Device is not ready." and it does not run. However the FLA and EXE of the file work fine. Anyone else had this problem or does anyone have any idea why its doing this? THanks!!!

Can i make somesort like program in flash and make it as "active desktop wallpaper"? For example, i made an animation which buttons links them to a certain folders, so i wish to cover the desktop so that i can only click on the animation, can i do that?

Hi all. Real flash newbie here.

I was thinking this: i'd like to make my desktop a webpage, which would be made of flash.

On this webpage, i would have links that would open up programs or folder inside my computer.

So for example, on my desktop, i'd have a macromedia dreamweaver icon and when i clicked it, dreamweaver would open.

How would i go about doing this? would it work if i linked the button to the whole path within my c:/ drive?

(c:/program files/macromedia/dreamweaver/dreamweaver.exe) ?

I have seen this done before but my search has lead me here. I would like someone while they are looking at my flash site to kinda like add to favorites type of thing where you have someone hit my button icon and it places my chosen icon on there desktop automaticlly. When they hit my chosen icon it takes them to my movie

i have some files in .mov format and i want them to just download to the users desktop instead of playing in the browser window. i could zip them but im just wondering if there is some command that would directly download a file to the desktop.
