Scrolling The "Floor Plan" In Each Direction



I need someone to give me some pointers on how to scroll around the attached movie. It you take a look at the floor plan , this is going to be much bigger and I want the user to be able to move the mouse point up and the plan move down and so on.

Interactive Floor Plan -> Drag And Drop Furniture
Hi! I am a newbie and would really appreciate any help you can give me. I am attempting to build an interactive floor plan (Flash MX 2004) with drag and drop furniture. The user will use menus to navigate to different rooms and select the appropriate furniture for that room. They will be able to rotate the furniture pieces, delete furniture pieces, clear all furniture pieces and print the completed floorplan. Please see the attached FLA to see what I've managed so far (this isn't the interface, just a test). I'm clearly on the wrong track because a) I've set up each menu (room type) as a scene, and when the user clicks on a new room (button1, button2, etc.), the furniture that they've dragged and dropped disappears; and b) I can't get each furniture piece to rotate independently; and c) I need to duplicate the furniture movieclips so when it's dragged from the menu onto the floor plan, another one replaces it

Direction or advice of any kind would be much appreciated! Even helping me to understand how to set up the timeline properly (instead of using scenes like I've tried) would be SO much help. I feel like a real dolt.

Drag/Drop Floor Plan App Issues - Printing And Aligning

Purpose:
Allows users to select products and place onto their floor plans, which is saved into our DB to be loaded by our filed techs to place further "tech-specific" symbols onto the plan. All of this is covered so far, with no problems.


Issues:
1) I need the have a print button that will print the floor plan in it's entirety - the products placed, the full length, NOT scaled to fit on one page, but printed out on however many are need for the full size print.

2) When a product is selected (to place onto the plan), the "attachedMC" is placed at a specific X/Y coord. I am wanting the attachedMC to be placed on the same X/Y coord (upper left of the plan) in relation to the floor plan coordinates. In other words, if the plan is scrolled to the very bottom, and the user selects a product, currently I have the plan scrolling back to the top, and the item placed in the upper left of the plan. I want the product to appear in the upper left of the plan, no matter where the actual plan coords are. Make sense?

THAT SAID:
I'm using Flash 8 for this, hoping to utilize some of the Bitmap manipulation and even file upload (for plans), and even though this app is AS heavy, it's been a real learning trila for me. I am NOT an expert, and much of the code is probably not as clean as many "gurus" would like .


I can send the .FLA (and Prototype .MXP used - Laco) through email. It's an internal project, so I don't want to upload it.

Scrolling X Direction
Is any scroller availabel on mouse over. The scrolling should be on left and right direction according to mouse direction.

After a few preloaders, a long image begins to scroll and is controlled by the position of your mouse over the MC. My question is:

1. How is this image scrolling in a complete loop and not just from beginning to end and back again?

2. How is it scripted to react to mouse? i.e. controlling is direction of travel and speed of travel.

Scrolling To A Point Whislt Being Able To Change Direction
Hi people, I need to build a scrolling page where there are some static buttons on one side, when clicked the buttons scroll to a certain point on a picture. I can do this with some simple buttons and simple actionscript, however what I want to achieve is whilst scrolling to one point on the picture the user can click on another button and the scroller changes direction to where the user has just clicked to go. For an example see http://ourtype.be. Click on the bottom button then on the top before it reaches it's destination and it neatly scrolls to the top, How is this done??????

Scroller Scrolling In Opposite Direction When Swf Is Externally Loaded
I'm using Claudio's excellent scroller again, and I'm externally loading swfs into an empty mc called main, which is scrolled. However, when the swf is externally loaded, it starts scrolling in the opposite direction.

sorry to bother everyone with my post. I enjoyed your tutorial but came across a small problem which I'm still not able to figure out.

Basically I would like to control in which direction the spaceship is flying i.e. the moving background (bg). I almost did it. It comes shows ground and ground2 but the bg does not repeat it self. What have I done wrong?

Original code of the moving bg:

Image That Follows And Moves Into The Direction To The Direction The Mouse Is Moved.

I'm having problems trying to figure out how to come up with a solution to this dilemma so any help would be more than greatful!

IN A NUT SHELL

I want to make an image (one that is larger than the actual stage itself) to follow and move into the direction to the direction that the mouse is moved to. So when the mouse is moved 65 degrees, the image should move 65 degrees etc etc.

How To Detect Direction Of Movieclip And Rotate To Face Direction
Hi!

I have searched this forum, but Im not really sure what to search for, so I havent found anything similar to this. If anyone know, then please post the link to that thread.

I am trying to do some sort of aquarium with random moving amoebas.

But I want the amoebas (movieclips) to detect in what direction (angle) they are moving and rotate so that they "face" the direction they are going in.

I have experimented with:

I have a MC with two movies init one going left one going right.

I want to have the clip direction change based on the direction the mouse is going.

One:
I need to know how to tell wich direction the mouse in going

Two: I need to know how to switch the clips inthemovie based on the direction.

Too Big For Flash. Need Plan B
I originally started a website for a client that was a simple way for her to display her catalog of table linens original site (basic demo). Since then it has grown to include other related products and now contains too many pictures that it takes 2 mins to load. I need to change formats to accommodate the expanded inventory. Can anyone recommend a very basic catalog-like template? i don't need a shopping cart because it is just inventory that is purchased via-phone. I was thinking of purchasing something like this can anyone reccomend something simpler or should i do my flash another way?

Plan Of Attack
I need some advice. I am getting ready to build a banner that scrolls images across the screen beneath an overlay (which serves as a sort of picture frame). I seem to be struggling with the best way to structure it.

The plan is this:

I already have a php script that writes an xml file from a folder full of images. the xml output from that script is:

I want to scroll the images across the screen but not load all of them at the same time (the folder currently has about 50 pics in it and I want to keep it flexible). So, I thought if I used a couple of containers that load 5 jpgs each and load the images into container 2 while container 1 was making its way across the screen, then I could set up a cycle that never ends.

I'de like to get some feedback on what approach(es) would work well. For example, Id tried creating a Main class with a Container class and I hit some bumps along the way. (Mainly because I am still learning AS3)

I am trying to adjust to OOP (I have been scripting procedurally in PHP) and I am still trying to get the hang of it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Please Help: Not Sure If Plan And Structure Will Work

I'm working on flash site for a big client. It has been a while since I have worked in flash. I'm using MX to do this. I am integrating HTML, FLASH, CSS, and javascript. I will be using Dreamweaver.

This is sorta long (disclaimer at bottom also) But I don't know how to explain this otherwise, and I am a detailed person so...thanks for your patience if you do read this, I am doing this site for a big client, and I really need to impress him!

To help you understand what I'd like to do, if it is possible, and if there are other ways to do this, I've included screen shots. Hopefully this will be enough to understand the structure/nav of the site.

Homepage Design


Subpage Design

I need to lay this out for you so you can see how I was PLANNING to do this. I guess I am unsure about a few things and will make note as I go along:


First Page: Will just be a simple page w/ browser and flash plugin requirements. Small Logo animation. Link to go to "main homepage"

Main Home Page (see screenshot) As I have planned it, the top will be mostly images: the logo on right, and the green top image. I was going to do a small slice from that image on the top for the AUDIO on/off button. Audio will only play on homepage, not other pages. The Navigation bar: Simple Flash Drop Down Menu-with topic links. Image on right will be a flash swf file with 3-4 different images and animated "floating" text.


EXAMPLE: visitor mouses over corporate and goes to tradeshows. Should trade shows be a separate swf file that gets called in by the flash nav, OR should it be an MC? I am not sure how to call in an external swf file from another swf (meaning the nav.swf) file into the page. I'll probably use some CSS positioning if I can grasp it: Still new to CSS! =)



nav is clicked: then it will go to one of the html pages which I was going to organize like this:

social.html: would include the nav.swf, social_intro.swf, weddings,swf, bdays.swf, and hs.swf (each swf file is it's own that would load in under the nav bar.

QUESTION: Is this the correct way to do this? OR should the whole thing be ONE MOVIE, with the (social_intr.sfw, weddings.swf...and so on be MC's instead? Should I have the nav bar separate? OR should all FLASH on each MAIN section: SOCIAL, CORPORATE, and SPECIALTY be one big preloading swf?? Hope that makes sense.

Same with MUSIC (i want a music.html page, and a gallery.html page that would load in MCs from one big swf file that would preload...or again, shoud they all be separate SWF files that when a button is clicked on the flash nav bar, that content loads. I guess I am not sure how use external SWF files.

I've decided that the contact us, theme/novelty, and karaoke sections will be pop ups.

I am not so sure about how to call in the separate swf files. Should they be done with layers??


As you can see, the content for each section will have external text files that are called in using variables into a dynamic txt box w/ scroll bar. Top headers will be MCs that get called in - i think...

OK So I hope this explains what I'm trying to do here, and I realize this is a lot and probably seems like a newbie thing to be asking but I never have enough time to "master" anything because I am always doing too much (insert lecture here)


but I really appreciate you taking the time to help me! I think I have a harder time grasping some concepts, but once I do and use them enough, then I'm ok! I guess i'm a slooowww learner...sigh.

Here are my questions:

1. Will this web structure work?
2. How do I know when I should Pre-load? Do I preload the nav bars? Should nav bars be included into one swf and call in MC's for each HTML page/Section?? OR do I use external SWF files, and where am I calling them into? I'm so confuesed!

3. Home Page: Do I need to preload that nav bar? Do I preload the movie w/ the rotating images and text?

Hopefully by seeing these two images below, it will give you an idea of how the site is functioing.

If anyone knows of a full source file w/ HTML and Flash being used that I could pick apart, that may help tremendously! Actionscritping takes me a while to learn, and just when I seem to grasp it, new things are needed to learn! My downfall is that I never have time to explore all these avenues, contstantly working, and there's no team...just me! This frustrates me very much!

Interactive Site Plan
Help! I need some ideas. I designed a site plan that needs to indicate lots that have been sold, but it needs to be an automatic function that updates every time the flash file is loaded based on information the home builder supplies themselves without access to the master flash file.

My first idea is to have a mc for the "Sold" text that appears on the lots of the master site plan, and another flash file or simple web page that the builder logs onto and clicks a checkbox indicating lots that have been sold, which would cause the "Sold" indicator to appear on the site plan.

Obviously there needs to be an actionscript command somewhere in the site file that checks the other file for updates, but I don't know where it would go or what type of command.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

How To Plan A Application/game/whatever
I have been strugling for months to finish a simple missile comando game in my free time, with no sucess.Very oftem i make a class, and later want to add some more to the game, and have to go back and remake the first class, so i was thinking that some problems like that may be because of the lack of a plan...
So,is there any sugestion from those of you from the programming world about how to plan a game/application? I dont know, i dont have a formal education on that,im from the 'design' world, (and since AS3 is not for designers and i know as3 what i am now?)
I've heard of uml diagrams, they seems just a list of public variables and methods from a class, why it dont have events?They are not important when planning a game?

Seating Plan From XML - Problem
I am trying to construct a seating plan using a movie clip and an external XML file.

The external XML file holds the seat number and the seat booking status Y or N

I can load the external XML file successfully and draw the seating plan on the screen.

The problem arises when I try to assign the seat status from the xml file to the movie clip I get an "undefined" in the trace window. I believe this is happening because the movie clips are being drawn before the XML file data is loaded.

To correct this I tried setting the XML load code on Frame 1 and the code for drawing the seating plan on frame 2. Interestingly the seating plan on frame 2 appears to draw before the XML file loads (frame 1) - as shown in the trace window output.

Actionscript Grammar And My Ultimate Plan.

Let me get to the point quickly as I don't want to waste you time anymore than is required. Just keep in mind I am deeply greatful for any help give, I have searched many threads and tutorial sites for my solutions, and once I get to my planned destination, I wish to make an all inclusive tutorial for the programming handicapped like me.


And on to the project.

Like many (if not all) Flash newbies before me I have made the "getDate" analog clock using the _rotation property.

While I changed a lot of the code in the actionscripting. The knowledge is still of the copy and paste variety along with trial and error.

My first request: Can anyone point me in the direction of an online tutorial for actionscripting grammar? Something really basic covering the most redundant parts. there is about 30% of the coding I use I just don't understand, (I just know it works).

My 2nd request:

I am looking to make a stop-watch program imbedded into an analog clock which can run as an active desktop.

I am looking to be able to do the following:

>start as many as 9 runners at the same time but be able to stop them individually and display their times to the 10th of a second.

>start the 9 runners at different times and stop them at the same time

>Start the 9 runners at different times and stop at different times but have the ability of having them run at the same time (overlap)

>have split functions in each of the 9.

>maybe have the possibility of more than 9. for example "hold the shift key and press a number key to have alternates. (total of 18 runners)"

I want to do this by having two seperate actions both having to do with "getTime (date)" on a specific key press.

I would then display the diference between momen# and momentnow

I know I am missing something (probably a lot). But the idea is that when you hit the space bar it takes a snapshot in time from the system clock (how many milliseconds have passed since Jan 1 1970) then on the press of keys 1 - 9 (only 1-6 listed) it will get how many milliseconds have passed since 01/01/70 and when you hit that key.

I would then have a variable text window display the difference. (how much time passed between starting the clock and stopping it.

I would rather do it this way as I have fiddled around with some of the basic flash timers out there that use a "bead counter" by adding a value of 1 for every second that passes. This I have found is largely innacurate after about 2 minutes on some systems. Tying the values directly to the system clock seems to be the most accurate solution. This will also allow someone to shut down a computer then still have a relatively accurate calculation when they re-start it the next day. (I have to learn how I can save a flash variable to disk somewhere. I have looked under "saving scores" and such, (any direction on this would also be appreciated)

I have barrowed books from local libraries and skimmed through the "flash for idiots/dummies/the mathematically challenged" in our local B&N, but none of them explain the "why" something is working. If I knew the why and the grammar of actionscript I could probably stumble through it myself.

I don't really want someone to paste the code I need without a resource or explanation of why. Even in the actionscripting tutorials for beginners, they all seem to be written for people who can read actionscript already. I have done most of the tutorials in Flash MX, but most of them are "fill in the blank" and don't explain why they use "{}" instead of "[]" or "()". Nor do they explain the // designation, (but I got that it prevents any text behind it from becoming code.) Why is there an underscore in the beginning of "_rotation" ? etc. etc.

Thanks all in advance, and I know it's a lot to ask. I would take a link or a suggestion to a good basic manual on coding. Or some basic "it's not that complicated, this means this, and this means this." over a completed script.

Reading Plan Text With LoadVars
Hey

I need some help with reading of plan txt. I have fixed a class which read the textfile by use of onData event handle. The problem by use of the onData function is that the main actionscript depend on this read and as i understand the asynchronous idea by loadVars objects does that the data is not ready when tried referenced outside the onData function.

a is called in processData and contain the correct data.

I have tried to make the read by use of the onLoad event handler, but cant figure how to find the data in the loadVars object since the plan text do not have any variable name with respect to the MIME format required and therfore not become a variable name of the loadVars object.

Can anybody help or come with some feedback. Im stuck. Cant develop more for my homepage before this is fixed. http://www.smoller.dk/testproject3.swf

Creating A 3d 'floor'
I am wanting to create a scene where you are travelling ahead in a straight line in a boat.

In the same principal as a starfield animation the sea should appear to be coming closer all the time. I've had a good look for tutorials but no luck, i also tried searching the forum but it would'nt let me search for '3d' as it's too short a phrase!

AttachMovie With Drag & Drop For Landscape Plan?
I'm trying to create a landscaping plan that allows the user to drag images of various trees and shrubs into a yard plan and position them.

The user needs to drag an image of a tree seen in side view into the yard plan, drop it and have a plan view of the tree appear in the yard plan in that position, (and have the side view image that was being dragged disappear).

My thought is to create a grid of144 movie clips (12x12) over the yard plan, and cause the plan view of a tree to appear by using attachMovie to attach an instance of the plan view clip to the grid clip over which the user drops the side view clip.

I need a way to have the dragged (side view) clip and any one of the grid clips interact to call the attachMovie function for that grid clip (without doing a hitTest on 144 movie clips).

I'm also open to any other thoughts on how to create this. Thanks.

Use Choices In Flashfile To Create Project Plan
I recently got the assignment to create a director cd-rom which offers the user the abillity to choose either start a software install, play a video and also to generate a customized project plan. The install, video and the other stuff is no problem, but the project plan is.

The idea is that by using some sort of 'wizard', users have to go through several steps that will result in a printable project plan.
Step 1 would be editing a textarea, step 2 choosing 5 items out of a list of 8, step 3 choosing 1 button out of 4 etc..

How to correctly catch those choices and neatly insert them in the project plan template (with correct layout) puzzles me.

What would be the best way to approach this ?

Can Someone Please Help Me Plan This Small Idea? Rotating Banner Ads For Web
Hello,
Here is what I need to do and I have some ideas how to go about but need some direction.

I have a space for a banner on the website 250x70 pixels in size. The flash piece will go there. There will be banners that are changed often and will need to rotate much like the banners on this page, http://www.dtstech.com/cinema/

The idea as I see it is to have a main flash movie with empty clips in which external movies banners are brought into the main movie and rotated.

How do I go about setting up a single flash file so we can add these new flash banners external from it without having to change the main flash movie constantly. So say we have 1 banner this week it will stay still, but if we have 3 banners next week it will automatically know to switch between them.

Can an external text file control this and if so is there a tutorial or what would I look for on how to do this?

Make a floor plan in FLASH where viewers can add options etc. I have no idea where to start. I'm a novice when it comes to FLASH. Can someone re-direct me to a tutorial that can start me off? Or tell me what actionscripts to use. I'm clueless when it comes to actionscript. I have the basics of FLASH down. I just don't know the advanced stuff. I'm in desperate need of help. Also, if you know of any GOOD books that can help me out as well. I would appreciate it. THanks!

I'm working on a site that wants a web widget that will allow a visitor to do basic office plans etc dimension of area and drag and drop of furniture.

Has anybody seen anything like this or can they suggest a strategy?

It may get to the poin where I need to outsource this as I'm only a basic actionscript kinda guy - any suggestions as to where I could find a good freelancer?

Math.floor Loses 0
I have a captivate player that checks the time I run into the problem when I use the Math.floor to round the numbers it drops the 0 if for instance the time is 9:01, 9:1 is displayed. Another Example is 2:00 is displayed 2:0 It only does this if there is a 0 before the last number.

[CS3] Help With The Math.floor Command
I have a project that has a calculation that come back with a number like 10.5. I need to round down a variable and get rid of the .5 using math.floor but i can't seem to figure out how to do it.

Global Math.floor()
Hi there is there a way to globally assign Math.floor() or Math.round() to a flash presentation, so that all values in the presentation are rounded off?

Weirdness In Math.floor

map_collumns=Stage.width/tile_width

Sometimes I get a decimal return. Then, when I close it,and run it again, it shows the correct answer.
