Search Functionality?



Does anyone know how to include search functionality in a flash module? I have several pages with text and images. I would like to add a search bar that allows a user to enter some text. If the text the entered matches up with any text on any of the flash pages I want some sort of results page returned that allows them to then go to the pages with those search terms. thanks,sage

Is there a component or something out there for a flash search engine? Not looking for a Google version where it searches the web, but rather a search function for an ecommerce site that searches keywords within the site.

I have a flash movie and each keyframe has textbox with tex in it. i need to create a search button so that when the user types text into another text box and hits a search button then if the search phrase matches any text in the other text box then this text will be highlighted.

Search Engine -user Can Search His Pictures With Keywords- HELP
I was reading about search engines and I came across a post. Being fairly new to flash I do not know how to develop this. I have a client who owns a small furniture store. I am setting up his site. He wants it to be all flash based. He has about 300 pictures of his products.I need to make a search engine in Flash so that the user can search his pictures with keywords. I read a suggestion that would fit my needs- create an array of picture names then use a loop to check if the keyword is in the array. I have been going through tutorials with no luck- can someone please help. Maybe start the code the person is talking about so I can just expand on that.

Flash Search Field - Atomz Search
I currently use Atomz for their search engine. A clients site as of now is all HTML, however I am buidling some flash elements which will incorporate a simple "search" field and submit button.

I will include the HTML, however I am unsure how to make a form in Flash to be able to include the hidden fields, etc. I hope this makes sense, and thank you in advance!

How Do I Add Functionality?
I need help adding functionaltiy to some drop down boxs. I use Flash 5 on a Mac. This is what I'm trying to achieve...In my site I ask the user several questions, they answer them by selecting the relevant answer in the drop down boxes. This part I have figured out. Now I need to use the info that was selected in a later scene. How do I do this?

AS Functionality

Now I'm trying to learn to use AS the most efficient way I can, and I'm starting to try and understand 2.0. Now with this code, is it cleared out of memory when it plays through once with using the "delete this.onEnterFrame" call, or no. I'm trying to use all script now, and sometimes my projects get bogged down. I know it's not good to run things all at once, but say for instance, I have my main stage, and I try to load another SWF inside w/ some script on it, it slows down the project. I know this is kinda of a broad question. I guess just a start on understanding the whole onClipEvent function would be great.

I am attempting to get the same effect of button rollover= submenu.
But, I can't seem to get it "not" to make the submenu jump up again after a particular submenu has been revealed. Instead, the onRollover is called.

So, How do you get the main nav button to know no to reactivate the sub when the main is rollover again?

Can I do this with a variable? If so, "How" is this done??

No Functionality
When I try to scale my flash file down using publish settings (make is smaller by percentage) - none of the buttons work, some of the sounds do not play, etc.  Is there an easier way to do this?  Please help

Map Functionality
i'm sure this is pretty easy, but my actionscript skills arent sufficient enough...

i want a map to scroll in eight different directions according to the 8 buttons the user can press. the map should scroll in the opposite direction of the arrows. let me explain: if the user presses the top-left button, the map should scroll bottom-right, if he presses the top arrow, the map should scroll to the bottom, if he presses the top-right, the map should scroll to the bottom-left, etcetera, this continues in all eight directions: top, right, bottom, left and four diagonal directions. on top of that the scrolling of the map should stop at a certain point. eg; the map is something like 1200 pixels wide and if the user scrolls all the way to one of the sides of it, it should stop scrolling.... now i have no idea how to do this. can someone help me out with this?

btw does anyone know of some good resources on how to add mapfunctions? loading and placement of dynamic content on the map is mostly what i need to know...

Pop Up Windows For Functionality
I'm trying to create some pop up windows for some site interactivity, and want to place basic forms inside them so that I can have my viewers enter important info into the editable feilds and then click a button to send it to my e-mail address...

Commonly done in websites, but need knowlege on how to pull it off.

A Bit Of A Functionality Disappointment
Hi, I'm trying to use scroll panes, but with sharp dynamic text.

I can't believe that the people at MM think that embedded fonts are clear enough to be used for the majority of content.

I'm trying to get this a little clearer, but it's impossible.

I would just use html, but this has to be an exe that's browser independent, with video, animations etc.

Can anyone think of a way of using clearer text?


I have tried using covers, which do cover the text as it goes up. But, I have four of these boxes, and using covers means that the bottom two's text will move above the top two.

Swf Loses Functionality As MC
I have a scrollbox that I am trying to drop in as a SWF, using this code:

loadMovieNum("applist.swf",1);

This works fine. Scrolls and everything. But I don't like where the default position is. So I need to place it using Actionscript. As far as I know, this would mean creating an empty MC dynamically, like so:

the problem is that when I put it into an empty MC, the scroll no longer works. It will position just fine, but loses functionality. Any ideas what is happening?

Dual Functionality
I am using all flash MX and an all cd-rom based platform

Realvast.com - Functionality
When you click a button, the background fades out, then the new one fades in..how do they do this? I only know how to click one, and the old on just dissapears (levels), but how do you do it so that it fades the current one and puts in the new one?

Is there a way to add right click functionality to a swf...

I.E. can I have a button that will go to a label on release of the left button and also go to a URL by clicking the left button?

Unsure Of Functionality (with Example)
I have a movie which includes an actionscript file on the first (and only) frame.
On this frame are instances of a text area and button.
When the button is clicked, I expect to perform a function on something that is called from the buttons click code, but it doesn't happen.

An example is with trace. I can't seem to get traces to happen from within a function that *isn't* inside the click event code - e.g. within the main movie frame or an external .as file. The function call seems to be ignored (have tried other actions beside trace).

Check out the sample movie I've attached. The left button traces, then tried to call two different functions - one in a .as and one in the first frame of the movie. Neither of them run. The right-hand button calls a function inside the (click) event code, which runs fine.

How can I make the left hand button work?

Losing Functionality
Was searching the forum and I am stuck as hell.

Age old question of loading an external swf and losing functionality.

I have a menu loading several SWFs..on the SWFs there is a photoscroller...and a text box loading external text files. I can get the text scroll and everything to load up fine.

I'm loading in a movieclip with an instance of content. Am I doing that wrong? I just created a movie clip with no fill, changed the instance name to content. Or am I doing that completley wrong. I would rather not use layers because the way that I am loading the pages from the menu would be easier just to load into target or something.

The text scroll had a _root. that I had to change.

But the script for the scroller has no _root.

Maybe I'm just not looking at it right, but here is the script for a button which causes the image to scroll one over.

Hi,

I have my application with a button which displays a Window when pressed and thatīs Ok. Now the resulting SWF file is called from another application inside a Loader component ... and thatīs the problem. After clicking the button Iīm not getting the window and the question is why.

The easiest way to explain this I think would be for you to visit the page in question, which is http://www.76kid.com/home.html

This is at very early stages of development so please excuse the minimal look. But once the page has loaded if you click on the Illustration link a very small gallery will appear.

Now the thumbnail to viewer functionality works fine, but what I'd like to do is enable the arrows on the larger image to work in conjunction with the thumbnails. I would like which ever thumbnail is clicked to have a different state making the user aware that they are viewing that particular thumb. I would also like to enable that when you click on the left or right arrow you can scroll through the gallery and the highlighted thumbnail follows it.

Does this make sense?

If anyone can help or provide me with a link that might tutor me through being able to adapt this function to my gallery I would really appreciate it.

Help With Button Functionality

I've been knocking my head against the desk trying to get this right and it sure seemed simple at the time. Here's what I'm trying to do:

-I have a 5 page website
- Home
- Products
- Support
- Downloads
- Contact Us

When a visitor clicks on the "Contact Us" button, they are sent to that page accordingly.

The problem is this...I created a "Thank you" page not related to any of the menu buttons but will appear once the "Submit" button is pressed on the "Contact Us" page.

The "Submit" button won't work and when I did get it working, the other buttons on the menu stopped working. I know I'm close, just got stuck. Here's the code:

AS Functionality Degrading With Use
Help the frustration level has reached critical mass!

I seem to have everything working correctly at first. The user presses the stop button to stop the Ac power inverter and start charging the battery. So far so good.

The problems begin when the user presses the start button again to turn the Ac inverter back on. The Dc Output bar does not clear and the voltage count down and up speeds way up.

I need to complete this by end of Wednesday and am getting quite desperate and dismayed. Could someone take a look at the attached file and let me know what I need to do to get it to work correctly. I am new to AS and this is getting over my head.

Questions About Flv Functionality
Hey everyone,
I have a couple questions, any insight would be helpful!

1) I am trying to work with some video and in order to cut down file sizes I wanted to use the reverse of a clip as the "out" transition. Trying to do this has resulted in my tests choking up when you activate the reversal... I have just started reading that you CANNOT reverse play embedded flvs without this happening.. Any video savvy flashers on here know if this is indeed a fact?

2) to knock down the file size I am exporting from Aftereffects as quicktime (quality medium) and then importig to flash as high quality flv using onvp2.. anything lower looks like hell, which is odd because the quicktimes look great prior to import. Does anyone know a better way to get pretty clean results with low file sizes? specific compression?I am making files "700x500, 21fps"

Button Functionality
got a loop that adds button functionality to 6 buttons. At first all button have the alpha value of 100%. what I want to happen is once you roll over one, all others fade out. then when you roll off if fade out to the alpha value of the other.

Currently I have it when you rollover one it fades out and when you roll off it fade back in.

Fullscreen Functionality In 9.0.16
I have created video player with fullscreen mode. Now I have to make it work in 9.0.16 (without fullscreen functionalisty of course). I want to avoid situaction where I have 2 parallel versions of application (one for 9.0.16 without fullscreen and one for newer FlashPlayers with fulscreen)

I rewrited code to make it compatibile, but I have one issue left - property displayState of Stage object
stage.displayState
when I'll try to access it debug version of player 9.016 shows exepction even if i use try/catch
ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property displayState not found on flash.display.Stage and there is no default value.

Layout And Functionality
Just wondering if I have 4 sections:

their equal in width but differs in height
then I have the case study section which is totally dif in dimensions then the other 4 sections


their popup windows in flash

like windows that are laid ontop of the rest of the site
*u know those draggable windows?* but these aint draggable

anyways the pt is... is it less professional to have dif sections with dif dimensions windows..or is it fine?

_soundbuftime Functionality?
Hi all,

I'm in the middle of creating a streaming MP3 player for a friend's band's website which loads an XML file containg the filenames and other song info, compiles an html formatted list of links which activate asfunction calls which load the songs into the player. Its all working quite well, except for a wierdness I've noticed using _soundbuftime.

According to all the documentation I've read, _soundbuftime is a global property that specifies how many seconds of streaming sound the player should buffer before it starts to play the file. But in my experience in testing it out, at least as far as my machine/player goes, _soundbuftime seems to determine how many seconds Flash waits before beginning to play the streaming sound after the loadSound command has been issued.

For example, I have an MP3 file that is approximately 3.5 minutes in length. If I do NOT specify a _soundbuftime, the player loads the file completely before beginning to play it (according to several sources, it SHOULD start playing the streaming file when 5 seconds of audio have been loaded). Since I am on broadband, it takes less than 5 seconds to load the file into the player. But if I set _soundbuftime to 1, the file will begin to play when it is approximately 25% loaded (according to the loadbar). I've tried other values, such as .1 which makes the sound begin immediately when the streaming process begins, .5 which has a slight delay, and 2 which starts the file playing at about 50-60% loaded.

Projector Functionality
New to Flash. I'm assembling a demo for my boss of a marketing presentation to eventually be distributed on CD. Initially I published html on the three (many more to come) screens in the demo. I used the load url command to call up the separate files. On some of our PCs it worked fine, others just froze. So, I worried about browser compatibility and decided to publish projector files instead. However, to navigate between the swf files, I used the load movie command to load the swf files into upper layers. The projector file will not load the separate swf files. Is there a way to make that happen? If not, is it still considered a best practice to use a projector file for distributing Flash content via CD? If so, will the projector file support separate scenes?

In brief, for RSS feed, when any RSS link is given, the AS 2.0 XML object does not understand the link. I can use that link in AS 3.0 'URL' object.
Also, AS 3.0 has the functionality of traversing through any XML file without the developer knowing its exact structure but this is not possible in AS 2.0. How can I achieve this.
Please assist.

Help With Skin Functionality
I am new to flash but have manged to quickly create an flv player that loads an xml file within actionscript in order to find out the name of the .flv file to play. This works fine and the video plays. The problem is that the skin I have chosen to use from the list does not work when the video plays. If I click on the play/pause button I will get the following message in the output window:

1000: Unable to make connection to server or to find FLV on server

I am using a NetStream object to play out the file once it's name is retrieved from the xml file.

Now if I take out the actionscript code that loads and reads the xml file and specify the path to the flv file in the component inspector for the playback component, the file plays fine still and now the skin controls work.

The actionscript code is on frame 1. From everything I read this is where it should be.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Gotoandplay Functionality
Hey developers! My problem is that I want to design a button where once I click it, the entire main playhead on the main timeline moves to another frame. I believe in actionscript 2.0, they had an easy "gotoandplay(xx)" method where xx is the frame number. It seems that in actionscript 3.0 the only way to go about this is to introduce movieclip symbols. Well, certainly actionscript 3 is more powerful but with power comes complication! Does anyone know a way around this?!

Flash/XML Functionality
So as the topic suggests, how is AS3 with XML these days? For instance, I made a Flash/XML guestbook and it works, but it could be much better, without the use of a Datagrid. Also, I wrote the administration functionality for the guestbook in PHP and ASP using a basic Webpage interface because I couldn't find a way to do it with AS2 and XML. Basically, is AS3 robust enough for me to manipulate XML files like a database?

Can I make a Website using XML as a backend in a manner like a simple employee database to add, modify and delete records?

How Can I Achieve This Functionality...help Plz
I would like to be able to click on either of the movie clips and have a movie clip (box_mc) attached from the library on to the stage. So far I have been able to do all this but the issue is that I would like to keep the clip(box_mc) loaded and when clipB is pressed, I would like to find out if (box_mc) already exist on stage and if does then unload it and then attach it again now that the clipB is pressed.

I have written a function which creates a dynamic movieclip and then attaches the box_mc from library. Please see my code:
